that_o be_v in_o a_o believer_n be_v not_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n only_o which_o the_o saint_n have_v in_o their_o soul_n but_o christ_n himself_o by_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o look_v into_o that_o 5._o chapter_n to_o the_o roman_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o beside_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o spirit_n itself_o be_v say_v to_o be_v give_v unto_o we_o verse_n shall_v speak_v this_o be_v the_o comforter_n this_o be_v the_o spirit_n now_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n do_v not_o thus_o speak_v and_o hear_v and_o therefore_o certain_o the_o spirit_n of_o spirit_n of_o he_o that_o raise_v up_o jesus_n from_o the_o dead_a dwell_v in_o you_o he_o that_o raise_v up_o christ_n from_o the_o dead_a shall_v also_o quicken_v your_o mortal_a body_n by_o his_o spirit_n that_o dwell_v in_o you_o this_o spirit_n can_v be_v mean_v habitual_a grace_n but_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o he_o that_o raise_v up_o jesus_n from_o the_o dead_a dwell_v in_o you_o so_o that_o plain_o then_o in_o a_o spiritual_a and_o mystical_a way_n christ_n be_v in_o each_o
believer_n four_o you_o must_v know_v this_o that_o there_o be_v a_o great-deal_a of_o difference_n between_o the_o in-being_a of_o a_o spiritual_a thing_n in_o a_o material_a and_o the_o in-being_a of_o one_o material_a or_o corporial_n thing_n in_o another_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o as_o plain_a as_o i_o can_v and_o it_o will_v be_v of_o concernment_n to_o you_o take_v a_o body_n now_o and_o let_v that_o be_v mix_v with_o another_o and_o each_o part_n may_v say_v i_o be_o that_o which_o i_o be_o join_v to_o but_o take_v the_o spirit_n or_o a_o spiritual_a be_v and_o let_v that_o be_v mix_v with_o a_o more_o material_a be_v and_o then_o the_o material_a be_v can_v say_v i_o be_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n i_o be_o the_o matter_n as_o now_o you_o see_v in_o the_o great_a union_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n the_o soul_n be_v in_o every_o part_n of_o a_o man_n tota_fw-la in_o toto_fw-la the_o soul_n say_v the_o philosopher_n be_v whole_o in_o every_o spiritual_a body_n in_o a_o more_o material_a body_n and_o so_o the_o nature_n be_v keep_v distinct_a or_o if_o you_o will_v yet_o far_o you_o see_v the_o light_n in_o the_o air_n the_o light_n be_v more_o spiritual_a than_o the_o air_n and_o the_o light_n be_v in_o every_o part_n of_o the_o air_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o air_n can_v say_v i_o be_o the_o light_n nor_o the_o light_n can_v say_v i_o be_o the_o air_n but_o these_o two_o be_v keep_v distinct_a why_o because_o here_o be_v a_o union_n of_o that_o which_o be_v more_o spiritual_a unto_o that_o which_o be_v more_o material_a so_o i_o say_v here_o though_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o belever_n be_v more_o material_a though_o not_o in_o itself_o material_a yet_o in_o respect_n of_o christ_n the_o soul_n be_v a_o gross_a nature_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o chirst_n and_o be_v thus_o therefore_o unite_v these_o nature_n be_v keep_v distinct_a the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v keep_v distinct_a from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n though_o unite_v real_o unto_o christ_n by_o the_o spirit_n can_v say_v i_o be_o the_o spirit_n or_o i_o be_o christ_n object_n but_o if_o we_o look_v will_n some_o say_v into_o the_o 17._o chapter_n of_o john_n our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n christ_n seem_v to_o speak_v this_o way_n at_o the_o 20_o and_o 21._o verse_n neither_o pray_v i_o for_o these_o alone_a say_v he_o but_o for_o they_o also_o which_o shall_v believe_v on_o i_o through_o their_o word_n that_o they_o all_o may_v be_v one_o as_o thou_o father_n be_v in_o i_o and_o i_o in_o thou_o that_o they_o also_o may_v be_v one_o in_o we_o here_o christ_n pray_v that_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o as_o he_o and_o the_o father_n be_v one_o but_o if_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v to_o each_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n what_o difference_n be_v there_o between_o this_o union_n and_o the_o hypostatical_a union_n the_o second_o person_n be_v unite_v unto_o our_o nature_n to_o our_o flesh_n and_o if_o christ_n soul_n and_o body_n they_o be_v not_o a_o person_n before_o united_n unto_o the_o second_o person_n but_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o second_o person_n in_o the_o trinity_n unite_v together_o make_v up_o one_o person_n i_o say_v that_o be_v a_o personal_a union_n all_o make_v up_o but_o one_o person_n but_o now_o a_o believer_n he_o be_v a_o person_n before_o his_o union_n with_o christ_n by_o the_o spirit_n he_o be_v a_o person_n a_o wicked_a person_n but_o he_o be_v a_o person_n again_o the_o union_n that_o be_v between_o christ_n and_o a_o believer_n it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o other_o union_n a_o accidental_a union_n christ_n unite_v unto_o the_o soul_n by_o faith_n by_o the_o intervening_a of_o grace_n and_o accident_n but_o now_o the_o second_o person_n be_v unite_v unto_o our_o nature_n and_o unto_o our_o flesh_n not_o by_o the_o intervening_a of_o any_o grace_n or_o any_o accident_n but_o their_o substance_n be_v unite_v unto_o substance_n by_o the_o second_o person_n i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o a_o union_n by_o the_o intervening_a of_o any_o grace_n for_o though_o all_o grace_n be_v in_o christ_n yet_o the_o union_n of_o the_o second_o person_n to_o our_o flesh_n be_v not_o by_o the_o intervening_a of_o any_o grace_n faith_n or_o the_o like_a but_o now_o our_o union_n to_o christ_n be_v by_o the_o intervening_a of_o grace_n of_o faith_n and_o so_o this_o union_n be_v but_o a_o accidental_a union_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o again_o though_o christ_n be_v unite_v unto_o all_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n yet_o he_o be_v so_o far_o unite_v unto_o a_o believer_n as_o to_o make_v he_o a_o member_n of_o the_o body_n only_o but_o the_o second_o person_n be_v unite_v unto_o our_o nature_n and_o unto_o our_o flesh_n to_o make_v christ_n the_o mediator_n indeed_o if_o god_n be_v unite_v to_o man_n for_o far_o as_o to_o make_v he_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n than_o he_o may_v say_v i_o be_o god_n and_o i_o be_o christ_n but_o i_o say_v this_o union_n be_v voluntary_a he_o do_v so_o far_o unite_v himself_o unto_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n as_o to_o make_v he_o a_o member_n of_o the_o body_n only_o and_o not_o a_o mediator_n but_o when_o the_o second_o person_n be_v unite_v to_o our_o nature_n the_o union_n be_v to_o make_v the_o person_n a_o mediator_n and_o thus_o you_o see_v there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o that_o hypostatical_a union_n and_o this_o mystical_a union_n of_o a_o believer_n and_o whereas_o it_o be_v say_v in_o that_o 17._o of_o john_n that_o christ_n pray_v that_o we_o may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o as_o he_o be_v with_o the_o father_n that_o they_o all_o may_v be_v one_o as_o thou_o father_n be_v in_o i_o and_o i_o in_o thou_o that_o they_o also_o may_v be_v one_o i_o answer_v this_o be_v a_o as_o of_o similitude_n and_o not_o of_o equality_n christ_n pray_v unto_o the_o father_n that_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o not_o by_o way_n of_o equallitie_n that_o a_o believer_n shall_v be_v equal_o one_o with_o christ_n as_o christ_n be_v with_o the_o father_n for_o then_o christ_n shall_v pray_v that_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v worship_v too_o which_o he_o never_o do_v and_o if_o that_o christ_n here_o shall_v pray_v that_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o christ_n as_o christ_n with_o the_o father_n in_o regard_n of_o equallitie_n then_o christ_n shall_v pray_v that_o a_o believer_n shall_v be_v one_o with_o he_o from_o eternity_n for_o say_v he_o unto_o his_o father_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o chapter_n glorify_v i_o with_o thyself_o with_o the_o same_o glory_n which_o i_o have_v with_o thou_o before_o
the_o world_n be_v christ_n be_v one_o with_o the_o father_n before_o the_o world_n be_v therefore_o if_o he_o shall_v pray_v that_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o in_o regard_n of_o equality_n he_o shall_v pray_v that_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o in_o that_o respect_n which_o be_v impossible_a but_o he_o do_v not_o pray_v that_o a_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o by_o way_n of_o equallitie_n as_o he_o be_v one_o with_o the_o father_n by_o way_n of_o equallitie_n but_o similitude_n and_o yet_o divers_a learned_a and_o reverend_a man_n think_v the_o they_o may_v love_v and_o agree_v together_o he_o pray_v for_o union_n among_o themselves_o but_o suppose_v it_o be_v take_v the_o other_o way_n that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n here_o do_v pray_v that_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o he_o as_o he_o be_v with_o the_o father_n that_o be_v not_o in_o regard_n of_o equallitie_n but_o in_o regard_n of_o similitude_n that_o as_o christ_n be_v one_o with_o the_o father_n in_o a_o way_n suitable_a to_o he_o so_o believer_n may_v be_v one_o with_o christ_n in_o a_o way_n suitable_a unto_o they_o quest_n but_o suppose_v then_o you_o will_v say_v that_o a_o believer_n be_v not_o one_o with_o christ_n in_o this_o height_n of_o one-ness_a how_o may_v it_o appear_v by_o way_n of_o scripture_n reason_n that_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n and_o that_o he_o be_v real_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o the_o spirit_n not_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o infuse_a habit_n habit_n of_o grace_n grace_v inherent_a but_o that_o christ_n himself_o be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n answ_n 1_o you_o know_v that_o we_o be_v unite_v to_o christ_n by_o faith_n and_o look_v what_o faith_n lay_v hold_v upon_o that_o it_o bring_v into_o the_o soul_n but_o now_o faith_n do_v not_o lay_v hold_n upon_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n but_o upon_o christ_n himself_o and_o therefore_o christ_n lord_n christ_n be_v not_o real_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n beside_o those_o habit_n of_o grace_n act_n and_o operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n then_o how_o will_v there_o be_v three_o that_o bear_v witness_n the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o 5.8_o 1_o john_n 5.8_o there_o be_v three_o that_o bear_v witness_n in_o heaven_n and_o in_o our_o heart_n the_o spirit_n water_n and_o blood_n water_n what_o be_v that_o that_o be_v sanctification_n a_o man_n sanctification_n do_v bear_v witness_n to_o he_o that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n that_o be_v water_n but_o now_o sanctification_n consist_v either_o in_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n or_o in_o the_o act_n of_o grace_n if_o therefore_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o a_o believer_n be_v nothing_o spirit_n there_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o blood_n and_o there_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o water_n if_o by_o the_o spirit_n we_o be_v to_o understand_v only_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n the_o habit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n than_o there_o will_v be_v but_o two_o that_o bear_v witness_n namely_o water_n and_o blood_n because_o the_o other_o will_v be_v all_o one_o with_o water_n water_n be_v mean_v only_a sanctification_n but_o now_o there_o be_v three_o that_o do_v bear_v witness_n unto_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n the_o spirit_n and_o blood_n and_o water_n and_o therefore_o christ_n be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n christ_n real_o unite_v unto_o all_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n quest_n what_o be_v the_o benefit_n of_o all_o this_o for_o suppose_v that_o we_o grant_v this_o that_o christ_n in_o a_o believer_n be_v not_o only_a grace_n and_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o christ_n himself_o be_v real_o in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n what_o profit_n benefit_n or_o comfort_n will_v come_v unto_o a_o believer_n more_o this_o way_n than_o the_o other_o way_n answ_n 1_o much_o every_o way_n first_o if_o jesus_n christ_n be_v real_o unite_v to_o each_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o real_o in_o he_o in_o this_o spiritual_a and_o mystical_a way_n then_o a_o believer_n shall_v have_v more_o bless_v and_o glorious_a communion_n with_o christ_n than_o the_o other_o way_n for_o union_n be_v the_o root_n of_o communion_n the_o husband_n &_o the_o wife_n be_v first_o join_v together_o and_o unite_v and_o then_o they_o have_v communion_n with_o one_o another_o and_o fellowship_n in_o their_o good_n and_o estate_n union_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o communion_n and_o the_o near_a the_o union_n the_o great_a the_o communion_n now_o if_o christ_n shall_v be_v only_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n the_o union_n will_v not_o be_v so_o great_a but_o if_o this_o be_v true_a that_o christ_n be_v real_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n christ_n real_o unite_v to_o each_o believer_n here_o the_o union_n be_v near_a and_o therefore_o the_o communion_n and_o fellowship_n that_o a_o believer_n shall_v have_v with_o christ_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o and_o more_o bless_a second_o if_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o a_o believer_n unto_o all_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n then_o his_o love_n must_v needs_o be_v infinite_a towards_o believer_n if_o that_o his_o grace_n only_o be_v in_o they_o he_o will_v love_v they_o because_o thereby_o a_o believer_n shall_v also_o raise_v up_o a_o poor_a believer_n yea_o though_o he_o fall_v into_o the_o grave_n of_o sin_n he_o shall_v never_o die_v spiritual_o again_o upon_o this_o account_n believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n when_o christ_n be_v upon_o the_o earth_n we_o be_v in_o he_o as_o in_o a_o common_a person_n now_o christ_n be_v in_o heaven_n he_o be_v in_o we_o by_o his_o spirit_n what_o glorious_a condescend_v love_n be_v here_o if_o a_o father_n portion_n a_o child_n set_v he_o up_o in_o a_o good_a trade_n and_o the_o child_n decay_n through_o his_o own_o folly_n the_o father_n will_v not_o portion_n he_o again_o possible_o he_o may_v help_v he_o but_o he_o will_v not_o give_v he_o ordinary_o parent_n do_v not_o give_v so_o great_a a_o portion_n to_o help_v he_o up_o again_o somewhat_o the_o parent_n will_v do_v but_o not_o so_o much_o as_o at_o the_o first_o the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n he_o put_v a_o great_a portion_n into_o our_o hand_n at_o first_o and_o we_o decay_v and_o break_v and_o behold_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o only_o give_v we_o as_o good_a a_o portion_n as_o we_o have_v at_o the_o first_o but_o infinite_o better_a for_o now_o the_o lord_n christ_n be_v unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n now_o he_o come_v and_o dwell_v in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n the_o psalmist_n wonder_v and_o admire_v at_o the_o love_n of_o then_o unto_o a_o poor_a soul_n that_o christ_n be_v always_o in_o he_o real_o in_o he_o by_o his_o spirit_n you_o that_o be_v believer_n will_v not_o this_o content_n you_o he_o be_v too_o covetous_a who_o god_n can_v suffice_v he_o have_v all_o thing_n that_o have_v he_o that_o have_v all_o thing_n now_o every_o believer_n have_v christ_n christ_n real_o in_o a_o believer_n by_o his_o spirit_n not_o notional_o not_o by_o the_o habit_n of_o grace_n only_o but_o christ_n be_v real_o unite_v unto_o each_o believer_n by_o the_o spirit_n here_o be_v comfort_n comfort_n comfort_n unto_o all_o gospel_n christus_fw-la impletio_fw-la legis_fw-la spiritus_fw-la impletio_fw-la evangelii_n christ_n the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n the_o spirit_n the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o gospel_n quaecunque_fw-la sunt_fw-la in_o legi_fw-la etc._n etc._n whatsoever_o thing_n be_v in_o the_o law_n christ_n fulfil_v whatsoever_o thing_n be_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o spirit_n fulfil_v and_o have_v the_o first_o thing_n clear_v and_o prove_v christ_n live_v in_o all_o believer_n quest_n 2_o second_o whereby_o may_v it_o appear_v that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v so_o live_v in_o a_o believer_n as_o that_o he_o have_v a_o great_a hand_n and_o stroke_n in_o all_o the_o action_n of_o his_o spiritual_a life_n than_o a_o believer_n have_v himself_o that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v
