have_v this_o sweet_a invitation_n of_o christ_n let_v he_o that_o be_v athirst_a come_v christ_n will_v say_v to_o thy_o soul_n come_v come_v now_o i_o say_v let_v we_o examine_v and_o make_v inquiry_n whether_o we_o be_v spiritual_a thirster_n yea_o or_o no._n but_o before_o i_o come_v to_o the_o discovery_n of_o it_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o there_o be_v a_o false_a thirst_n and_o there_o be_v a_o true_a thirst_n the_o true_a thirst_n do_v arise_v from_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o want_n of_o moisture_n throughout_o the_o whole_a man_n the_o false_a be_v accidental_a the_o one_o be_v natural_a the_o other_o be_v accidental_a accidental_a thirst_n you_o know_v be_v when_o a_o man_n stomach_n have_v some_o saltish_a humour_n there_o and_o his_o palate_n be_v dista_v then_o there_o arise_v a_o false_a thirst_n he_o have_v some_o ill_a humour_n get_v into_o those_o part_n and_o cause_v a_o drought_n there_o so_o now_o in_o his_o spiritual_a thirst_v a_o true_a thirst_v do_v arise_v from_o a_o desire_n of_o union_n with_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n through_o a_o general_a sense_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o false_a thirst_n do_v arise_v either_o from_o apprehension_n of_o wrath_n of_o gild_n of_o condemnation_n and_o punishment_n and_o so_o cause_v the_o conscience_n to_o ache_v and_o thereupon_o he_o desire_v christ_n or_o it_o do_v arise_v from_o the_o good_a in_o the_o gospel_n propound_v which_o tickle_v his_o fancy_n which_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o palate_n or_o throat_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o thereupon_o he_o desire_v christ_n so_o that_o there_o be_v a_o false_a spiritual_a thirst_n as_o you_o may_v call_v it_o in_o some_o sense_n as_o well_o as_o a_o true_a spiritual_a thirst_n but_o then_o to_o distinguish_v between_o these_o thirst_v 1_o if_o you_o will_v know_v whether_o you_o be_v true_a spiritual_a â—hirsters_n thirst_n difference_n between_o true_a and_o false_a thirst_n inquire_v whether_o your_o thirst_v do_v arise_v from_o the_o whole_a man_n the_o natural_a thirst_n arise_v from_o the_o whole_a man_n for_o though_o the_o stomach_n or_o appetite_n do_v crave_v that_o be_v because_o it_o be_v the_o first_o receptacle_n and_o prompt_v you_o what_o nature_n want_v and_o must_v be_v convey_v that_o way_n to_o nature_n for_o it_o be_v not_o only_o your_o stomach_n be_v dry_a but_o every_o member_n of_o your_o body_n be_v dry_a and_o there_o must_v be_v a_o repair_n of_o the_o whole_a so_o here_o in_o the_o soul_n when_o the_o thirst_n be_v true_o spiritual_a it_o be_v a_o thirst_n of_o the_o whole_a soul_n not_o a_o thirst_n of_o any_o one_o faculty_n or_o of_o the_o affection_n or_o conscience_n or_o will_v alone_o but_o it_o be_v a_o thirst_n from_o the_o whole_a soul_n that_o the_o whole_a soul_n do_v thirst_n after_o christ_n my_o soul_n thirst_v after_o god_n say_v david_n but_o now_o in_o another_o it_o be_v a_o partial_a thirst_n his_o conscience_n it_o may_v be_v ache_v and_o he_o thirst_v now_o for_o christ_n to_o relieve_v his_o conscience_n and_o if_o guilt_n be_v take_v away_o he_o be_v well_o or_o it_o may_v be_v he_o be_v athirst_a in_o his_o understanding_n he_o thirst_v for_o some_o more_o light_n because_o he_o see_v some_o error_n in_o some_o way_n or_o he_o will_v have_v more_o part_n and_o gift_n and_o so_o it_o be_v a_o partial_a thirst_n but_o if_o it_o be_v a_o true_a spiritual_a thirst_n it_o be_v a_o thirst_n of_o the_o whole_a soul_n the_o conscience_n thirst_v and_o will_v have_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n to_o sprinkle_v it_o the_o understanding_n thirst_v and_o will_v have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n complete_v in_o it_o it_o be_v a_o total_a thirst_n 2_o you_o may_v distinguish_v the_o true_a spiritual_a thirst_n from_o the_o false_a one_o from_o the_o rise_n of_o the_o thirst_n both_o these_o thirst_v may_v arise_v from_o the_o same_o cause_n yet_o have_v a_o differ_a way_n the_o true_a thirst_n arise_v from_o sin_n and_o so_o do_v the_o other_o but_o under_o several_a consideration_n 1_o he_o that_o do_v true_o thirst_v after_o christ_n his_o thirst_n rise_v first_o from_o the_o pollution_n 2_o from_o the_o separation_n sin_n make_v and_o 3_o from_o the_o offence_n sin_n give_v 1_o it_o rise_v from_o the_o pollution_n of_o sin_n sin_n he_o see_v have_v so_o defile_v the_o soul_n so_o defile_v the_o whole_a man_n that_o he_o be_v unmeet_a for_o god_n unmeet_a for_o all_o that_o be_v spiritual_a and_o now_o because_o he_o be_v so_o defile_v so_o besooted_a and_o besmear_v with_o the_o blackness_n of_o sin_n his_o soul_n thirst_v after_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n after_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n his_o thirst_n rise_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o pollution_n of_o sin_n and_o 2_o from_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o separation_n sin_n have_v make_v this_o sin_n this_o sin_n have_v make_v a_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o my_o soul_n and_o separate_v i_o from_o god_n who_o be_v the_o infinite_a good_a the_o only_a good_a o_o it_o have_v put_v i_o in_o a_o great_a distance_n from_o god_n and_o therefore_o thirst_v to_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n again_o 3_o it_o rise_v from_o the_o offence_n o_o it_o have_v cause_v god_n to_o frown_v god_n to_o be_v angry_a now_o his_o thirst_n rise_v from_o these_o and_o therefore_o he_o thirst_v after_o christ_n but_o another_o now_o his_o thirst_n rise_v from_o the_o consequence_n of_o sin_n o_o sin_n will_v damn_v i_o it_o will_v bring_v plague_n and_o judgement_n sin_n will_v make_v i_o lie_v roar_v in_o hell_n for_o ever_o sin_n bring_v shame_n upon_o i_o &_o the_o like_a so_o that_o this_o man_n thirst_v after_o christ_n upon_o this_o account_n i_o desire_v christ_n that_o this_o punishment_n may_v be_v take_v away_o that_o i_o may_v be_v keep_v out_o of_o hell_n and_o the_o like_a and_o that_o i_o may_v not_o be_v ashamed_a so_o that_o the_o thirst_n arise_v from_o sin_n but_o upon_o these_o ground_n and_o consideration_n 3_o again_o we_o may_v distinguish_v between_o these_o thirst_v by_o the_o consideration_n of_o what_o be_v thirst_v after_o as_o well_o as_o what_o the_o thirst_n arise_v from_o where_o the_o true_a thirst_n be_v it_o do_v thirst_n after_o grace_n after_o holiness_n after_o communion_n with_o god_n after_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n mark_v where_o the_o false_a thirst_n be_v it_o be_v after_o pardon_n after_o peace_n and_o after_o ease_n so_o i_o may_v be_v pardon_v and_o save_v and_o have_v peace_n and_o ease_n say_v the_o soul_n that_o be_v all_o i_o look_v after_o this_o be_v a_o false_a thirst_n but_o where_o the_o thirst_n be_v true_a it_o thirst_v after_o holiness_n and_o grace_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n and_o the_o that_o make_v you_o such_o as_o you_o shall_v be_v now_o another_o man_n he_o care_v not_o for_o holiness_n nor_o for_o grace_n he_o will_v have_v pardon_n ease_n peace_n and_o salvation_n but_o as_o for_o holiness_n grace_n and_o communion_n with_o god_n
do_v not_o find_v this_o thirst_n in_o my_o soul_n i_o do_v not_o find_v such_o a_o thirst_n as_o here_o be_v mention_v in_o my_o soul_n and_o what_o shall_v i_o think_v of_o myself_o other_o it_o may_v be_v they_o have_v strong_a thirsting_n and_o such_o desire_n but_o as_o for_o myself_o i_o do_v not_o find_v the_o same_o ans_fw-fr to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o there_o be_v a_o difference_n in_o man_n in_o regard_n of_o this_o spiritual_a thirst_n as_o well_o as_o in_o man_n in_o regard_n of_o natural_a thirst_n some_o body_n be_v more_o thirsty_a than_o other_o your_o choleric_a body_n be_v more_o thirsty_a than_o phlegmatic_a &_o so_o some_o christian_n be_v more_o thirsty_a than_o other_o some_o have_v live_v very_o profane_a life_n in_o scandalous_a course_n and_o run_v out_o into_o exorbitant_a way_n and_o great_o have_v dishonour_v god_n and_o if_o god_n ever_o stir_v in_o their_o heart_n and_o bring_v they_o to_o thirst_n their_o thirst_n will_v be_v vehement_a their_o thirst_n will_v be_v afflictive_a their_o thirst_n will_v be_v strong_a than_o other_o man_n some_o they_o be_v train_v up_o from_o the_o cradle_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n they_o have_v more_o ingenuous_a nature_n and_o break_v not_o out_o into_o such_o ill_a way_n and_o their_o thirst_n be_v more_o moderate_a and_o less_o discernible_a it_o be_v not_o the_o degree_n of_o the_o thirst_n but_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o thirst_n that_o be_v require_v though_o you_o have_v not_o a_o strong_a thirst_n yet_o you_o have_v a_o true_a thirst_n as_o it_o be_v not_o a_o strong_a faith_n but_o a_o true_a faith_n that_o be_v require_v to_o salvation_n now_o the_o degree_n of_o thirst_n which_o will_v bring_v you_o to_o christ_n which_o will_v make_v you_o come_v and_o drink_v and_o stay_v with_o christ_n that_o be_v sufficient_a use_v of_o exhortation_n but_o to_o come_v to_o another_o use_n and_o that_o be_v a_o use_n of_o exhortation_n let_v he_o that_o be_v athirst_a come_v man_n and_o woman_n o_o labour_n to_o be_v true_a thirster_n after_o christ_n we_o can_v thirst_v after_o other_o thing_n one_o thirst_v after_o this_o another_z after_o that_o and_o another_o after_o
