of_o we_o many_o time_n unless_o he_o shall_v come_v near_o we_o by_o affliction_n and_o deep_a affliction_n out_o of_o the_o deep_a have_v i_o cry_v affliction_n god_n bring_v we_o to_o the_o deep_a and_o then_o we_o cry_v our_o nature_n be_v so_o naught_o that_o god_n shall_v not_o hear_v of_o we_o as_o i_o say_v unless_o he_o send_v some_o messenger_n after_o we_o some_o affliction_n to_o we_o on_o our_o sick_a bed_n because_o god_n be_v work_v our_o good_a he_o be_v draw_v we_o near_o to_o he_o then_o they_o cry_v to_o he_o affliction_n so_o we_o see_v then_o that_o prayer_n it_o be_v a_o remedy_n in_o a_o remediless_a estate_n when_o there_o be_v no_o other_o remedy_n and_o this_o one_o difference_n between_o a_o child_n of_o god_n and_o another_o in_o extremity_n a_o carnal_a man_n that_o have_v not_o grace_n he_o have_v not_o a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n to_o go_v to_o god_n but_o a_o child_n of_o god_n he_o cry_v to_o god_n he_o have_v acquaintance_n with_o god_n in_o the_o time_n of_o health_n therefore_o he_o go_v bold_o to_o god_n as_o a_o father_n in_o the_o time_n of_o extremity_n god_n child_n can_v answer_v god_n deal_v for_o as_o he_o bring_v his_o child_n to_o extremity_n when_o there_o be_v no_o second_o cause_n to_o help_v so_o they_o answer_v he_o by_o faith_n in_o extremity_n when_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o trust_v unto_o they_o trust_v he_o when_o there_o be_v no_o physic_n in_o the_o world_n that_o can-charme_n the_o disease_n they_o have_v a_o spirit_n of_o faith_n to_o answer_v god_n deal_v in_o the_o great_a misery_n as_o job_n faith_n though_o he_o kill_v i_o yet_o will_v i_o trust_v in_o he_o for_o god_n be_v not_o tie_v to_o second_o cause_n and_o therefore_o if_o he_o have_v delight_n in_o we_o and_o if_o he_o have_v any_o service_n for_o we_o to_o do_v he_o can_v recover_v we_o from_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n nay_o from_o death_n itself_o as_o we_o see_v christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n raise_v from_o the_o dead_a and_o at_o the_o resurrection_n he_o will_v raise_v we_o from_o death_n much_o more_o can_v he_o raise_v we_o from_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n when_o we_o be_v near_o death_n pray_v therefore_o consider_v that_o praâ—er_n be_v a_o remedy_n in_o all_o malady_n in_o a_o remediless_a estate_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o have_v a_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v in_o such_o a_o state_n as_o we_o may_v pray_v sin_n what_o state_n be_v that_o first_o take_v heed_n of_o be_v in_o league_n with_o any_o sin_n if_o i_o regard_v iniquity_n in_o my_o heart_n god_n will_v not_o hear_v my_o prayer_n nay_o he_o will_v not_o hear_v other_o prayer_n for_o we_o oh_o what_o a_o pitiful_a state_n be_v it_o when_o god_n will_v not_o hear_v we_o nor_o other_o for_o we_o pray_v not_o for_o this_o people_n say_v god_n to_o jeremiah_n and_o if_o noah_n daniel_n and_o job_n stand_v before_o i_o they_o shall_v but_o deliver_v their_o own_o soul_n if_o a_o man_n be_v in_o a_o peremptory_a course_n of_o sin_n and_o will_v not_o be_v reclaim_v but_o be_v like_o the_o deaf_a adder_n that_o will_v not_o be_v charm_v god_n will_v not_o hear_v prayer_n for_o he_o will_v god_n hear_v a_o rebel_n hand_n which_o be_v to_o increase_v the_o treason_n so_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o god_n and_o cry_n to_o he_o and_o yet_o purpose_v to_o live_v in_o sin_n and_o his_o conscience_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o offer_v violence_n to_o god_n by_o his_o sin_n and_o life_n in_o rebellious_a course_n god_n will_v not_o hear_v his_o prayer_n we_o again_o if_o we_o will_v be_v in_o such_o a_o state_n as_o god_n may_v accept_v we_o when_o we_o come_v to_o he_o let_v we_o hear_v god_n when_o he_o cry_v to_o we_o he_o cry_v to_o we_o in_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n wisdom_n have_v lift_v up_o her_o voice_n and_o this_o be_v god_n course_n he_o will_v hear_v we_o when_o we_o hear_v he_o he_o that_o turn_v his_o ear_n from_o hear_v of_o the_o law_n his_o prayer_n shall_v be_v abominable_a those_o that_o do_v not_o attend_v upon_o god_n ordinance_n that_o will_v have_v a_o kind_n of_o devotion_n private_a to_o themselves_o &_o avoid_v the_o public_a ordinance_n that_o fear_v perhaps_o they_o shall_v hear_v somewhat_o that_o will_v awaken_v their_o conscience_n and_o they_o will_v not_o be_v torment_v before_o their_o time_n let_v they_o consider_v it_o be_v a_o terrible_a speech_n heaven_n at_o this_o time_n do_v we_o not_o conceive_v what_o danger_n we_o be_v in_o what_o enemy_n we_o have_v provoke_v what_o if_o we_o be_v free_a from_o the_o sickness_n be_v we_o not_o in_o great_a danger_n of_o worse_a matter_n thâ—n_v the_o sickness_n be_v it_o not_o worse_o to_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o our_o enemy_n have_v we_o not_o great_a provoke_v cruel_a idolatrous_a enemy_n therefore_o let_v we_o joint_o now_o all_o cry_n
to_o god_n and_o importune_v he_o that_o he_o will_v be_v good_a to_o the_o state_n that_o as_o he_o have_v give_v we_o a_o pledge_n of_o his_o favour_n in_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o plague_n so_o we_o stir_v up_o ourselves_o affliction_n security_n and_o carelessness_n always_o foreruns_a one_o destruction_n or_o other_o prayer_n will_v do_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o good_a now_o then_o when_o trouble_n have_v overtake_v we_o for_o now_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n it_o come_v from_o a_o religious_a seek_v of_o god_n than_o it_o come_v from_o self-love_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n when_o a_o malefactor_n seek_v to_o the_o judge_n before_o the_o time_n of_o the_o assize_n and_o when_o he_o seek_v to_o he_o at_o the_o present_a time_n for_o than_o it_o be_v mere_o out_o of_o self_n respect_n and_o not_o respect_n to_o he_o if_o we_o seek_v to_o god_n now_o he_o will_v single_a and_o mark_v out_o those_o that_o mourn_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o time_n and_o pour_v out_o their_o spirit_n to_o he_o in_o prayer_n that_o he_o will_v still_o dwell_v and_o continue_v the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n among_o we_o 3_o when_o god_n i_o say_v come_v to_o gather_v his_o jewel_n mal._n 3._o he_o will_v single_a and_o cull_v out_o they_o as_o peculiar_a to_o himself_o prayer_n therefore_o let_v we_o in_o all_o our_o prayer_n put_v in_o the_o church_n thing_n do_v more_o than_o speak_v they_o cry_v to_o we_o to_o cry_v to_o god_n earnest_o put_v case_n we_o be_v not_o in_o trouble_v ourselves_o our_o prayer_n will_v be_v the_o more_o acceptable_a before_o trouble_v come_v it_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o prevent_v it_o as_o it_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o rescue_v we_o when_o we_o be_v in_o trouble_n i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o remedy_n he_o save_v they_o out_o of_o their_o distress_n god_n be_v a_o physician_n good_a at_o all_o manner_n of_o sickness_n physician_n it_o be_v no_o matter_n what_o the_o disease_n be_v if_o god_n be_v the_o physician_n though_o they_o be_v as_o these_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n he_o can_v fetch_v they_o back_o herein_o god_n differ_v from_o all_o other_o physician_n first_o of_o all_o he_o be_v a_o general_a physician_n he_o can_v heal_v a_o land_n a_o whole_a kingdom_n of_o sickness_n of_o pestilence_n and_o as_o it_o be_v in_o 7.14_o 2_o chro._n 7.14_o then_o he_o be_v a_o physician_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n of_o both_o part_n and_o then_o he_o be_v not_o tie_v to_o mean_n other_o physician_n can_v cure_v but_o they_o must_v have_v mean_n other_o physician_n can_v cure_v all_o manner_n of_o disease_n nor_o in_o all_o place_n but_o god_n can_v cure_v all_o he_o save_v they_o out_o of_o their_o distress_n other_o physician_n can_v be_v always_o present_a but_o god_n be_v so_o to_o every_o one_o of_o his_o patient_n he_o be_v a_o compassionate_a tender_a present_a physician_n which_o shall_v encourage_v we_o in_o any_o extremity_n especial_o in_o sickness_n of_o body_n to_o have_v recourse_n to_o god_n sickness_n and_o never_o to_o despair_v though_o we_o be_v bring_v never_o so_o low_a he_o that_o can_v raise_v the_o dead_a body_n can_v raise_v we_o out_o of_o any_o sickness_n therefore_o let_v we_o use_v the_o mean_n and_o when_o there_o be_v no_o mean_n trust_v god_n for_o he_o can_v work_v beyond_o mean_n and_o without_o mean_n they_o cry_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o save_v they_o out_o of_o their_o distress_n it_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o prayer_n successful_a there_o be_v never_o any_o prayer_n from_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o world_n make_v to_o god_n successeles_o what_o shall_v i_o speak_v of_o prayer_n our_o very_a breathe_n be_v know_v to_o god_n when_o we_o can_v speak_v our_o sigh_n as_o it_o be_v psal._n 38._o my_o groan_n and_o sigh_n be_v not_o hide_v from_o thou_o 38._o god_n have_v a_o bottle_n for_o our_o tear_n and_o preserve_v our_o sigh_n and_o groan_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o be_v spiritual_a in_o we_o but_o god_n regard_v 8._o as_o in_o rom._n 8._o we_o know_v not_o what_o to_o ask_v but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n stir_v up_o in_o we_o sigh_n and_o groan_n that_o can_v be_v express_v and_o god_n hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o sigh_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n let_v we_o also_o be_v exhort_v from_o this_o issue_n to_o cry_v unto_o the_o lord_n for_o there_o be_v never_o any_o man_n do_v sow_v prayer_n in_o the_o breast_n and_o bosom_n of_o god_n but_o he_o receive_v the_o fruit_n of_o it_o he_o be_v a_o god_n hear_v prayer_n he_o will_v not_o loose_v his_o attribute_n heathen_n nay_o if_o ahab_n do_v but_o hypocritical_o fast_o ahab_n shall_v have_v outward_a deliverance_n for_o his_o outward_a humiliation_n and_o these_o man_n mention_v in_o the_o text_n if_o they_o call_v to_o god_n but_o as_o creature_n and_o not_o to_o idol_n god_n will_v regard_v they_o in_o outward_a thing_n and_o deliver_v they_o god_n will_v not_o be_v in_o any_o man_n debt_n for_o any_o service_n to_o he_o though_o it_o be_v outward_a and_o do_v we_o think_v that_o he_o that_o regard_v dog_n out_o of_o the_o church_n will_v neglect_v his_o child_n in_o the_o church_n child_n he_o that_o regard_v heathen_a man_n when_o they_o pray_v to_o he_o in_o their_o extremity_n and_o deliver_v they_o to_o show_v his_o overflow_a bounty_n and_o goodness_n will_v he_o not_o regard_v his_o own_o child_n that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n of_o supplication_n and_o prayer_n that_o put_v up_o their_o suit_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o mediation_n and_o sweet_a name_n of_o christ_n will_v he_o not_o regard_v the_o name_n and_o intercession_n of_o his_o son_n and_o of_o his_o spirit_n the_o holy_a ghost_n stir_v up_o prayer_n in_o they_o and_o the_o state_n of_o his_o child_n be_v his_o by_o adoption_n since_o he_o regard_v the_o very_a heathen_a nay_o more_o than_o so_o god_n hear_v the_o very_a young_a raven_n and_o spread_v a_o table_n for_o every_o live_a thing_n and_o will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o die_v for_o hunger_n but_o provide_v for_o they_o because_o they_o be_v his_o creature_n and_o will_v he_o not_o for_o his_o child_n those_o that_o he_o have_v take_v to_o be_v so_o near_o he_o to_o be_v heir_n of_o heaven_n &_o happiness_n let_v we_o i_o say_v be_v encourage_v to_o cry_v unto_o the_o lord_n upon_o all_o occasion_n if_o god_n be_v so_o good_a as_o to_o deliver_v sinful_a man_n that_o have_v nothing_o in_o they_o but_o the_o principle_n of_o nature_n when_o they_o fly_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n as_o the_o author_n and_o preserver_n of_o nature_n much_o more_o will_v he_o hear_v his_o own_o child_n 11._o he_o will_v give_v his_o spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o luke_n 11._o but_o here_o may_v a_o objection_n be_v make_v i_o have_v cry_v be_v to_o stop_v his_o ear_n to_o harden_v his_o heart_n against_o i_o to_o shut_v up_o his_o bowel_n of_o compassion_n and_o pity_n therefore_o i_o be_v as_o good_a give_v over_o as_o continue_v still_o cry_v and_o not_o be_v hear_v i_o answer_v answ._n there_o be_v no_o one_o duty_n almost_o more_o press_v in_o scripture_n then_o wait_v &_o watch_v to_o prayer_n necessary_a wait_v still_o have_v not_o god_n wait_v thy_o leisure_n long_o enough_o and_o will_v not_o thou_o wait_v on_o he_o a_o patient_a when_o he_o feel_v his_o body_n distemper_v with_o physic_n oh_o he_o cry_v out_o partly_o for_o the_o physic_n and_o partly_o for_o the_o sickness_n that_o trouble_v he_o both_o together_o and_o make_v civil_a war_n in_o his_o body_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o physician_n wise_o let_v it_o work_v he_o shall_v have_v no_o cordial_a nor_o nothing_o to_o hinder_v it_o
