of_o the_o law_n of_o the_o commandment_n to_o help_v to_o convince_v a_o soul_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n no_o more_o than_o the_o second_o commandment_n be_v a_o mean_n and_o instrument_n now_o to_o give_v you_o a_o few_o reason_n for_o it_o to_o show_v you_o wherein_o it_o be_v more_o profitable_a more_o expedient_a to_o have_v the_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n than_o to_o enjoy_v shall_v speak_v to_o these_o four_o thing_n that_o be_v employ_v and_o wrap_v up_o in_o it_o 1._o that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o mean_n of_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o soul_n this_o be_v employ_v here_o they_o shall_v go_v out_o to_o preach_v and_o this_o shall_v be_v for_o their_o comfort_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v instrumental_a for_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o soul_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v through_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v to_o be_v effectual_a for_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o soul_n therefore_o say_v christ_n i_o will_v send_v the_o comforter_n to_o you_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o he_o shall_v convince_v the_o world_n of_o sin_n he_o shall_v make_v the_o word_n that_o you_o preach_v efficacious_a to_o further_o the_o salvation_n of_o soul_n 3._o that_o as_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n alone_o of_o itself_o can_v so_o neither_o will_v the_o holy_a ghost_n work_v efficacious_o and_o save_o to_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o soul_n without_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n christ_n do_v not_o say_v text._n 3._o three_o the_o matter_n of_o his_o sermon_n when_o he_o stand_v and_o cry_v so_o what_o do_v he_o speak_v or_o say_v why_o this_o it_o be_v if_o any_o man_n thirst_n let_v he_o come_v unto_o i_o and_o drink_v this_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o his_o sermon_n that_o he_o stand_v up_o and_o cry_v or_o preach_v unto_o the_o people_n wherein_o we_o have_v these_o two_o particular_n 1._o a_o gracious_a invitation_n to_o all_o that_o be_v athirst_a and_o 2._o a_o gracious_a promise_n that_o if_o they_o do_v come_v they_o shall_v drink_v the_o rabbi_n among_o the_o jew_n record_v of_o this_o feast_n that_o in_o this_o last_o day_n they_o be_v wont_a to_o go_v and_o pour_v abundance_n of_o water_n and_o wine_n in_o a_o way_n of_o rejoice_v upon_o the_o altar_n and_o therefore_o christ_n in_o allusion_n to_o that_o speak_v to_o they_o say_v if_o any_o man_n be_v athirst_a let_v he_o come_v unto_o i_o and_o drink_v brief_o to_o take_v up_o what_o i_o conceive_v to_o be_v christ_n meaning_n in_o this_o place_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o the_o gospel_n here_o in_o these_o word_n in_o this_o general_a proclamation_n if_o any_o man_n be_v athirst_a let_v he_o come_v to_o i_o and_o drink_n then_o know_v doctrine_n that_o such_o as_o be_v athirst_a do_v come_v unto_o christ_n they_o shall_v certain_o be_v supply_v unto_o the_o full_a and_o that_o most_o free_o whoever_o be_v athirst_a do_v come_v to_o christ_n he_o shall_v have_v a_o supply_n he_o shall_v have_v a_o full_a supply_n he_o shall_v not_o only_o taste_v or_o sip_v but_o drink_v a_o full_a draught_n his_o belly_n full_a so_o fill_v that_o as_o the_o word_n say_v out_o of_o his_o belly_n shall_v flow_v river_n of_o live_a water_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o he_o shall_v have_v a_o full_a supply_n most_o free_o drink_v most_o free_o he_o do_v not_o desire_v money_n or_o price_n but_o according_a to_o that_o proclamation_n which_o you_o have_v to_o this_o purpose_n isa_n 55.1_o ho_o every_o one_o that_o thirst_v come_v you_o to_o the_o water_n and_o he_o that_o have_v no_o money_n come_v you_o buy_v and_o eat_v yea_o come_v buy_v wine_n and_o milk_n without_o money_n and_o without_o price_n come_v and_o you_o shall_v drink_v free_o and_o that_o for_o nothing_o without_o money_n and_o without_o price_n and_o so_o revel_v 22.17_o and_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o bride_n say_v come_v let_v he_o that_o hear_v say_v come_v and_o let_v he_o that_o be_v a_o thirst_n come_v and_o whosoever_o will_v let_v he_o take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o and_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o bride_n say_v come_v this_o be_v hold_v forth_o free_o to_o drink_v free_o and_o it_o shall_v cost_v nothing_o as_o now_o a_o man_n that_o shall_v hold_v forth_o proclamation_n to_o all_o that_o will_v come_v to_o he_o and_o drink_v what_o they_o will_v they_o may_v come_v and_o shall_v drink_v free_o without_o charge_n to_o they_o so_o here_o our_o saviour_n christ_n clear_o hold_v forth_o grace_n and_o salvation_n free_o whosoever_o come_v they_o shall_v have_v it_o free_o brief_o to_o open_v the_o point_n and_o show_v 1._o what_o manner_n of_o thirst_n it_o be_v that_o christ_n speak_v off_o what_o thirst_n be_v it_o 2._o what_o be_v that_o same_o come_n or_o how_o may_v a_o man_n that_o be_v athirst_a how_o may_v such_o a_o one_o come_v you_o will_v say_v suppose_v it_o be_v a_o thirst_n after_o the_o water_n of_o life_n how_o may_v i_o come_v or_o in_o what_o way_n may_v i_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o then_o 3._o show_v you_o that_o those_o who_o be_v thirsty_a do_v come_v to_o christ_n they_o shall_v certain_o be_v supply_v to_o the_o full_a they_o shall_v have_v drink_v give_v they_o free_o most_o free_o i_o shall_v desire_v to_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o season_n and_o apply_v myself_o according_o to_o show_v you_o what_o
unfitness_n this_o shall_v rather_o be_v so_o far_o from_o hinder_v and_o discourage_v we_o as_o that_o it_o shall_v encourage_v we_o to_o come_v why_o because_o that_o have_v nothing_o and_o christ_n be_v the_o fullness_n of_o all_o we_o shall_v go_v unto_o christ_n for_o all_o as_o rev._n 3.18_o say_v christ_n thou_o be_v poor_a and_o naked_a blind_a and_o miserable_a and_o have_v nothing_o wherefore_o come_v to_o i_o i_o counsel_v thou_o to_o come_v to_o i_o for_o ay_o salve_n and_o for_o raiment_n gold_n and_o treasure_n and_o riches_n why_o here_o now_o be_v christ_n argument_n on_o the_o contrary_a why_o brethren_n he_o fill_v the_o hungry_a and_o the_o empty_a with_o good_a thing_n and_o they_o be_v to_o come_v to_o christ_n jesus_n christ_n invite_v such_o poor_a soul_n as_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o no_o ability_n at_o all_o a_o poor_a blind_a creature_n if_o one_o be_v more_o blind_a and_o unable_a and_o more_o ignorant_a than_o another_o here_o be_v the_o invitation_n that_o jesus_n christ_n do_v make_v this_o day_n to_o such_o a_o poor_a soul_n that_o he_o shall_v if_o he_o come_v he_o shall_v drink_v and_o he_o shall_v have_v of_o this_o water_n of_o life_n objection_n but_o another_o objection_n be_v alas_o i_o be_o a_o poor_a old_a creature_n a_o old_a man_n or_o a_o old_a woman_n that_o have_v live_v without_o god_n and_o without_o christ_n all_o this_o time_n and_o have_v slight_v the_o offer_n of_o grace_n and_o all_o the_o invitation_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o gospel_n and_o also_o a_o poor_a old_a sinner_n and_o will_v jesus_n christ_n invite_v i_o i_o possible_o have_v be_v a_o drunkard_n and_o a_o old_a drunkard_n and_o a_o swearer_n and_o a_o blasphemer_n of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n and_o can_v i_o think_v that_o ever_o christ_n shall_v entertain_v i_o when_o i_o come_v answer_n why_o now_o mark_v what_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o in_o a_o word_n from_o the_o lord_n let_v not_o any_o one_o here_o except_o himself_o and_o exclude_v himself_o if_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o except_v and_o exclude_v he_o look_v into_o the_o invitation_n do_v jesus_n christ_n exclude_v and_o say_v let_v every_o one_o come_v to_o i_o except_o he_o be_v a_o old_a drunkard_n or_o a_o old_a swearer_n no_o he_o do_v not_o say_v so_o he_o exclude_v none_o see_v how_o the_o word_n run_v if_o any_o man_n will_v come_v he_o shall_v drink_v if_o any_o man_n without_o exception_n can_v you_o have_v it_o speak_v more_o full_a or_o in_o plain_a term_n if_o any_o man_n will_v come_v unto_o i_o he_o shall_v drink_v john_n 6.35_o 36_o 37._o say_v jesus_n there_o i_o be_o the_o bread_n of_o life_n he_o that_o come_v unto_o i_o shall_v not_o hunger_n and_o he_o that_o believe_v on_o i_o shall_v never_o thirst_v but_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o you_o also_o have_v see_v i_o and_o believe_v not_o all_o that_o the_o father_n give_v i_o shall_v come_v to_o i_o and_o he_o that_o come_v to_o i_o i_o will_v in_o no_o wise_a cast_v out_o let_v he_o be_v what_o he_o will_v whatsoever_o he_o be_v never_o such_o a_o old_a sinner_n and_o therefore_o why_o shall_v a_o poor_a soul_n make_v this_o exception_n in_o his_o come_n to_o christ_n now_o know_v it_o if_o there_o be_v any_o such_o a_o soul_n in_o the_o congregation_n that_o have_v live_v so_o many_o year_n and_o all_o his_o life_n long_o have_v be_v in_o sinful_a course_n the_o invitation_n be_v to_o he_o and_o to_o all_o other_o that_o if_o any_o come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n i_o will_v give_v he_o the_o water_n of_o life_n objection_n but_o to_o object_v further_o alas_o i_o have_v no_o strength_n nor_o power_n and_o i_o be_o unworthy_a to_o come_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v but_o a_o folly_n to_o make_v such_o a_o invitation_n unto_o i_o and_o i_o have_v no_o power_n answer_n you_o have_v hear_v before_o what_o it_o be_v to_o come_v to_o christ_n viz._n to_o venture_v and_o cast_v yourself_o upon_o christ_n invitation_n in_o his_o promise_n and_o the_o soul_n now_o venture_v to_o lean_v upon_o christ_n word_n and_o to_o trust_v christ_n upon_o his_o word_n and_o to_o expect_v what_o christ_n hold_v forth_o in_o his_o word_n this_o be_v a_o come_n unto_o christ_n you_o know_v what_o the_o prodigal_n be_v and_o when_o the_o lord_n see_v a_o poor_a soul_n afar_o off_o he_o meet_v he_o and_o strengthen_v he_o and_o encourage_v he_o and_o lead_v he_o by_o the_o hand_n and_o uphold_v he_o objection_n ay_o but_o you_o will_v say_v alas_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n but_o i_o have_v no_o word_n and_o a_o soul_n can_v come_v to_o christ_n unless_o the_o lord_n give_v out_o some_o promise_n secret_o to_o draw_v the_o heart_n to_o christ_n and_o i_o can_v remember_v that_o ever_o the_o lord_n speak_v to_o i_o whereby_o i_o shall_v ever_o come_v answer_n well_o suppose_v you_o can_v remember_v that_o ever_o you_o have_v any_o word_n or_o promise_v give_v out_o to_o draw_v or_o persuade_v your_o heart_n to_o cast_v itself_o and_o to_o adventure_v upon_o christ_n yet_o behold_v here_o be_v a_o word_n from_o the_o lord_n this_o day_n which_o he_o cause_v to_o be_v proclaim_v in_o your_o hear_n jesus_n christ_n hold_v forth_o unto_o you_o this_o day_n whoever_o you_o be_v that_o come_v he_o shall_v drink_v and_o shall_v drink_v abundant_o and_o most_o free_o drink_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n and_o shall_v never_o perish_v but_o shall_v live_v for_o ever_o and_o therefore_o from_o this_o time_n forward_o let_v not_o any_o soul_n say_v well_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o this_o day_n hold_v forth_o any_o word_n to_o i_o know_v it_o the_o lord_n speak_v to_o you_o even_o to_o one_o and_o to_o another_o this_o day_n if_o any_o man_n be_v athirst_a let_v he_o come_v unto_o i_o and_o drink_n have_v you_o any_o thing_n more_o to_o object_n think_v with_o yourselves_o what_o it_o be_v objection_n ay_o you_o will_v say_v there_o be_v one_o thing_n more_o and_o that_o be_v here_o in_o the_o text_n if_o any_o man_n be_v athirst_a let_v he_o come_v and_o i_o can_v say_v i_o be_o athirst_a there_o be_v two_o thing_n in_o answer_n to_o this_o answer_v 1_o the_o promise_n that_o christ_n make_v here_o of_o give_v the_o water_n of_o life_n be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o the_o thirsty_a as_o to_o the_o comer_n whoever_o he_o be_v that_o come_v to_o i_o shall_v drink_v it_o be_v true_a indeed_o he_o say_v every_o one_o that_o thirst_v let_v he_o come_v to_o i_o and_o drink_n why_o ordinary_o man_n and_o woman_n poor_a sinner_n be_v not_o ready_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n without_o they_o be_v make_v very_o thirsty_a and_o see_v their_o necessity_n ay_o but_o notwithstanding_o say_v christ_n if_o any_o man_n do_v but_o come_v whoever_o he_o be_v if_o he_o do_v but_o come_v and_o so_o whosoever_o will_v whosoever_o he_o be_v let_v he_o come_v and_o take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v not_o to_o thirster_n only_o but_o to_o comer_n and_o be_v sure_a if_o you_o come_v he_o will_v give_v you_o to_o drink_v full_o and_o free_o rev._n 22.17_o and_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o bride_n say_v come_v and_o let_v he_o that_o hear_v say_v come_v and_o let_v he_o that_o be_v a_o thirst_n come_v and_o whosoever_o will_v let_v he_o come_v and_o drink_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o remember_v the_o promise_n be_v not_o to_o the_o thirsty_a alone_o but_o unto_o the_o comer_n therefore_o venture_v to_o come_v and_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a jesus_n christ_n will_v give_v you_o to_o drink_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n answer_v 2._o but_o then_o again_o you_o say_v you_o do_v not_o thirst_n can_v any_o soul_n here_o before_o the_o lord_n say_v that_o you_o have_v no_o need_n of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n that_o you_o have_v no_o need_n of_o nor_o desire_v everlasting_a life_n that_o you_o have_v no_o need_n to_o have_v your_o sin_n pardon_v be_v there_o any_o soul_n in_o the_o congregation_n that_o can_v say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n than_o you_o may_v stand_v off_o and_o say_v there_o be_v no_o invitation_n make_v to_o i_o but_o i_o dare_v say_v for_o every_o one_o in_o the_o congregation_n that_o he_o will_v willing_o die_v the_o death_n of_o the_o righteous_a and_o therefore_o let_v every_o poor_a soul_n know_v whatsoever_o be_v speak_v to_o one_o be_v speak_v to_o every_o one_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v this_o invitation_n if_o any_o man_n do_v but_o come_v to_o christ_n do_v but_o venture_v upon_o christ_n that_o be_v the_o way_n he_o shall_v drink_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n and_o what_o shall_v i_o say_v more_o for_o the_o
go_v along_o with_o our_o ministry_n our_o sermon_n have_v need_v to_o be_v water_v and_o soak_v in_o earnest_a prayer_n for_o the_o spirit_n 2._o here_o be_v now_o a_o mighty_a word_n of_o encouragement_n unto_o poor_a soul_n to_o be_v ready_a to_o entertain_v and_o receive_v the_o gospel_n and_o the_o ministration_n of_o it_o to_o be_v ready_a so_o to_o receive_v it_o into_o your_o heart_n as_o it_o may_v be_v a_o good_a word_n of_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n to_o your_o soul_n ay_o this_o will_v be_v matter_n of_o joy_n and_o rejoice_v to_o the_o servant_n of_o christ_n more_o than_o all_o that_o ever_o you_o can_v do_v for_o they_o if_o they_o may_v be_v but_o instrumental_a for_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o your_o soul_n it_o will_v be_v more_o comfort_n and_o joy_n to_o they_o than_o all_o the_o world_n beside_o joy_n to_o they_o ay_o it_o will_v be_v joy_n to_o the_o very_a angel_n in_o heaven_n luk._n 15.10_o 11._o there_o shall_v be_v joy_n in_o heaven_n over_o one_o einâ—â—â—_n that_o repent_v the_o angel_n of_o heaven_n observe_v how_o you_o come_v into_o the_o congregation_n they_o observe_v your_o carriage_n and_o how_o you_o take_v the_o word_n and_o what_o impression_n it_o make_v upon_o your_o heart_n to_o conviction_n and_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n it_o be_v the_o joy_n and_o rejoice_v of_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o 〈◊〉_d a_o poor_a soul_n bring_v in_o by_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o do_v not_o you_o think_v you_o yourselves_o will_v have_v as_o much_o cause_n of_o joy_n and_o rejoice_v whereas_o on_o the_o other_o side_n if_o so_o be_v the_o poor_a servant_n of_o christ_n do_v come_v and_o take_v pain_n they_o study_v and_o labour_n and_o hold_v forth_o the_o word_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o you_o and_o people_n come_v and_o receive_v it_o into_o their_o ear_n and_o not_o into_o their_o heart_n no_o good_a do_v upon_o they_o but_o they_o remain_v as_o carnal_a as_o worldly_a and_o unbelieving_a as_o before_o and_o they_o see_v no_o fruit_n of_o their_o ministry_n this_o be_v the_o grief_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o soul_n they_o labour_v and_o labour_n and_o question_n whether_o the_o lord_n do_v own_o their_o ministry_n or_o no_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o complain_v as_o the_o prophet_n isa_n 49.6_o i_o have_v labour_v in_o vain_a i_o have_v spend_v my_o strength_n for_o naught_o and_o in_o vain_a so_o the_o poor_a servant_n of_o christ_n go_v with_o a_o dead_a heart_n into_o their_o study_n and_o come_v to_o preach_v with_o a_o sad_a heart_n when_o they_o see_v no_o good_a do_v no_o save_a work_n wrought_v this_o be_v a_o very_a cut_v to_o their_o heart_n and_o soul_n and_o they_o will_v rather_o if_o they_o may_v have_v their_o will_n cease_v mention_v of_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n to_o people_n therefore_o let_v it_o be_v the_o desire_n and_o endeavour_v and_o care_n of_o people_n so_o to_o hear_v and_o receive_v the_o word_n into_o their_o heart_n that_o it_o may_v become_v effectual_a and_o a_o instrument_n in_o the_o lord_n hand_n for_o the_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n of_o their_o soul_n objection_n but_o you_o will_v say_v be_v it_o in_o our_o power_n i_o know_v you_o think_v so_o in_o your_o heart_n to_o make_v the_o word_n convince_a and_o convert_v and_o save_v answer_n i_o do_v not_o say_v it_o be_v in_o your_o power_n but_o thus_o much_o i_o may_v say_v you_o may_v oppose_v and_o resist_v the_o save_a work_n of_o the_o gospel_n upon_o your_o heart_n and_o therefore_o to_o be_v find_v wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o way_n you_o can_v tell_v but_o the_o lord_n may_v make_v the_o gospel_n effectual_a to_o you_o for_o your_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n and_o therefore_o let_v i_o commend_v three_o or_o four_o word_n by_o way_n of_o direction_n in_o this_o case_n and_o so_o i_o shall_v leave_v all_o to_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n do_v you_o desire_v to_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n make_v effectual_a for_o the_o convince_a and_o convert_v and_o save_v of_o your_o soul_n then_o 1._o be_v much_o and_o earnest_a in_o pray_v for_o the_o spirit_n to_o go_v along_o with_o the_o preach_v of_o the_o word_n into_o your_o heart_n and_o soul_n ay_o pray_v much_o for_o that_o o_o before_o you_o come_v you_o shall_v be_v careful_a to_o wrestle_v with_o god_n for_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o go_v along_o i_o fear_v brethren_n that_o people_n be_v careless_a in_o this_o point_n they_o come_v reek_v out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o from_o their_o business_n and_o never_o wrestle_v with_o the_o lord_n for_o the_o presence_n of_o his_o spirit_n to_o assist_v the_o preach_a of_o the_o word_n that_o it_o may_v become_v effectual_a and_o profitable_a to_o your_o soul_n and_o so_o you_o go_v away_o as_o you_o come_v therefore_o i_o say_v as_o the_o apostle_n judas_n v._n 24._o be_v building_n up_o yourselves_o in_o your_o most_o holy_a faith_n but_o how_o shall_v we_o build_v up_o ourselves_o in_o our_o most_o holy_a faith_n how_o shall_v we_o do_v it_o why_o say_v he_o pray_v in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o be_v the_o way_n beg_v earnest_o for_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o accompany_v the_o word_n and_o make_v the_o word_n profitable_a and_o effectual_a to_o you_o that_o be_v one_o direction_n i_o do_v but_o name_v it_o i_o pray_v remember_v it_o 2._o as_o we_o do_v desire_v to_o have_v the_o word_n make_v effectual_a for_o conviction_n conversion_n and_o salvation_n to_o our_o soul_n then_o attend_v upon_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n as_o the_o lord_n ordinance_n for_o that_o very_a end_n that_o he_o have_v appoint_v it_o namely_o for_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n this_o be_v the_o very_a end_n for_o which_o god_n have_v appoint_v the_o preach_v of_o the_o gospel_n to_o be_v a_o save_a word_n a_o word_n of_o salvation_n to_o poor_a soul_n that_o be_v the_o very_a end_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v appoint_v for_o that_o end_n eph._n 4.11_o 12._o say_v the_o apostle_n christ_n when_o he_o ascend_v up_o on_o high_a he_o give_v gift_n to_o man_n ministerial_a gift_n he_o give_v pastor_n and_o teacher_n for_o the_o edify_n of_o the_o body_n for_o the_o bring_n home_o of_o soul_n to_o the_o body_n for_o the_o perfect_a of_o the_o saint_n so_o that_o those_o that_o be_v saint_n shall_v still_o attend_v upon_o the_o gospel_n for_o more_o edify_a for_o the_o save_a work_n to_o be_v carry_v on_o this_o be_v the_o very_a intendment_n of_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o gospel_n god_n have_v ordain_v it_o for_o this_o end_n and_o purpose_n therefore_o wait_v upon_o it_o for_o that_o end_n attend_v upon_o it_o as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o he_o have_v appoint_v for_o that_o end_n 1_o thess_n 2.13_o we_o be_v always_o bind_v to_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n for_o you_o belove_a brethren_n because_o when_o you_o hear_v the_o word_n you_o receive_v it_o not_o as_o the_o word_n of_o man_n but_o as_o it_o be_v indeed_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o work_v effectual_o in_o they_o that_o believe_v ay_o receive_v it_o as_o the_o word_n and_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o that_o end_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v it_o and_o through_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n it_o will_v become_v effectual_a mark_v how_o it_o wrought_v in_o cornelius_n and_o his_o look_v upon_o unbelief_n to_o be_v a_o sin_n they_o look_v upon_o believe_v rather_o as_o their_o presumption_n and_o for_o their_o not_o believe_v they_o look_v upon_o it_o rather_o as_o their_o duty_n as_o their_o humility_n now_o i_o say_v unbelief_n be_v a_o sin_n such_o as_o do_v not_o believe_v on_o christ_n they_o be_v guilty_a of_o sin_n but_o mark_v i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o every_o condemn_v and_o damn_v in_o their_o unbelief_n yet_o not_o for_o their_o not_o believe_v on_o christ_n say_v christ_n john_n 15.22_o if_o i_o have_v not_o come_v and_o speak_v to_o they_o they_o in_o their_o heart_n and_o conscience_n so_o now_o here_o those_o that_o never_o have_v the_o gospel_n preach_v to_o they_o as_o a_o great_a many_o nation_n in_o the_o world_n pagan_n heathen_n and_o infidel_n and_o indian_n they_o never_o have_v the_o gospel_n preach_v to_o they_o christ_n be_v never_o reveal_v to_o they_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n never_o sound_v in_o their_o ear_n now_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v for_o their_o not_o believe_v on_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o a_o sin_n to_o they_o and_o therefore_o some_o tell_v we_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a unbelief_n there_o be_v a_o negative_a or_o privative_a unbelief_n that_o be_v the_o unbelief_n of_o those_o that_o never_o have_v the_o mean_n of_o faith_n offer_v they_o and_o it_o be_v not_o a_o sin_n for_o they_o not_o to_o believe_v on_o christ_n because_o they_o never_o hear_v of_o he_o but_o when_o there_o be_v a_o positive_a unbelief_n as_o they_o call_v it_o that_o be_v the_o unbelief_n of_o such_o as_o live_v christ_n and_o yet_o they_o believe_v not_o this_o be_v a_o positive_a unbelief_n and_o this_o unbelief_n be_v a_o sin_n and_o that_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n let_v i_o give_v you_o two_o or_o three_o demonstration_n 1._o it_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o sin_n because_o it_o be_v the_o transgression_n of_o the_o moral_a law_n or_o the_o law_n of_o the_o ten_o commandment_n where_o there_o be_v no_o law_n say_v the_o apostle_n there_o be_v no_o transgression_n sin_n be_v not_o impute_v where_o there_o be_v no_o law_n rom._n 5.13_o but_o sin_n be_v a_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n and_o this_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n a_o transgression_n of_o the_o moral_a law_n of_o the_o first_o commandment_n objection_n how_o so_o you_o will_v say_v be_v believe_v on_o christ_n then_o command_v to_o adam_n in_o the_o first_o commandment_n answer_n i_o answer_v yes_o virtual_o the_o first_o commandment_n you_o know_v be_v thus_o thou_o shall_v have_v no_o other_o god_n before_o i_o that_o be_v thou_o brief_o clear_v this_o in_o two_o thing_n 1._o it_o be_v grant_v it_o be_v true_a that_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o adam_n state_n of_o innocency_n to_o rely_v upon_o christ_n and_o to_o believe_v on_o christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n to_o save_v he_o from_o sin_n for_o he_o have_v no_o sin_n he_o be_v innocent_a therefore_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o his_o state_n to_o believe_v on_o christ_n as_o a_o saviour_n yea_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n to_o require_v adam_n to_o believe_v on_o christ_n to_o command_v such_o a_o duty_n of_o adam_n yet_o notwithstanding_o mark_v i_o pray_v adam_n have_v a_o principle_n and_o a_o virtual_a power_n for_o to_o have_v believe_v on_o christ_n if_o god_n have_v require_v it_o of_o he_o though_o its_o true_a it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o his_o state_n that_o god_n shall_v require_v it_o of_o he_o yet_o adam_n have_v this_o principle_n this_o virtual_a power_n put_v into_o he_o with_o his_o first_o creation_n in_o the_o image_n of_o god_n he_o have_v this_o power_n put_v into_o he_o that_o he_o have_v a_o virtual_a power_n to_o obey_v god_n in_o every_o thing_n that_o he_o shall_v require_v of_o he_o whatever_o god_n shall_v reveal_v to_o be_v his_o will_n he_o have_v power_n to_o believe_v it_o and_o yield_v obedience_n to_o it_o though_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o his_o state_n actual_o to_o believe_v yet_o he_o have_v a_o power_n to_o have_v believe_v on_o christ_n if_o god_n have_v require_v it_o of_o he_o for_o adam_n have_v a_o power_n to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o his_o state_n of_o innocency_n as_o for_o example_n adam_n have_v a_o principle_n and_o virtual_a power_n to_o show_v mercy_n and_o compassion_n to_o any_o that_o
