have_v do_v it_o and_o find_v matter_n enough_o and_o too_o much_o for_o it_o but_o enough_o of_o this_o etc._n etc._n therefore_o see_v they_o be_v so_o troublesome_a and_o offensive_a to_o you_o in_o this_o kind_n i_o trust_v you_o will_v not_o be_v imitator_n of_o they_o in_o the_o same_o way_n of_o work_v deride_v scoff_a and_o expose_v they_o for_o their_o fault_n error_n and_o miscarriage_n notwithstanding_o some_o will_v plead_v on_o both_o side_n that_o instance_n of_o elias_n in_o mock_v baal_n priest_n to_o countenance_v all_o the_o mockery_n drollery_n and_o scoff_v make_v use_v of_o in_o religion_n and_o about_o religious_a matter_n and_o religious_a man_n to_o which_o i_o say_v first_o let_v not_o we_o christian_n look_v upon_o the_o single_a practice_n of_o any_o no_o not_o of_o the_o best_a man_n in_o scripture_n record_n but_o according_a as_o they_o agree_v with_o and_o savour_v of_o the_o spirit_n of_o holiness_n peace_n and_o charity_n act_v in_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n and_o will_v consist_v with_o the_o promotion_n of_o the_o high_a and_o holy_a end_n and_o design_n of_o it_o that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o life_n and_o example_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n who_o have_v teach_v we_o the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n and_o give_v we_o the_o worthy_a example_n of_o they_o in_o all_o peace_n patience_n meekness_n goodness_n charity_n second_o again_o if_o a_o wise_a man_n shall_v for_o once_o be_v find_v in_o such_o a_o way_n or_o do_v such_o a_o thing_n i._n e._n deride_v mock_v etc._n etc._n it_o will_v be_v enough_o to_o do_v it_o once_o but_o to_o continue_v in_o it_o and_o still_o to_o answer_v the_o adversary_n as_o fast_o as_o he_o do_v it_o be_v not_o only_o unworthy_a of_o a_o good_a christian_a but_o of_o viz._n in_o smart_a sarcasm_n profane_a poetry_n and_o in_o picture_n draught_n etc._n etc._n to_o render_v the_o contrary_a party_n ridiculous_a and_o absurd_a as_o much_o as_o they_o can_v all_o which_o fall_v under_o the_o divine_a prohibition_n against_o profane_a jest_n scoff_a reproach_v and_o villify_a and_o breed_v very_o ill_a consequent_n and_o effect_n viz._n anger_n malice_n hatred_n revenge_n make_v of_o party_n division_n destroy_v of_o christian_a peace_n and_o charity_n we_o shall_v consider_v every_o man_n have_v some_o honour_n and_o veneration_n for_o himself_o for_o his_o friend_n and_o for_o his_o party_n and_o few_o can_v bear_v to_o have_v this_o crown_n spoil_v to_o be_v degrade_v from_o their_o honour_n or_o have_v their_o name_n and_o reputation_n lay_v waste_v but_o will_v above_o all_o thing_n be_v stir_v and_o provoke_v by_o such_o deal_n and_o detraction_n consider_v with_o yourselves_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o you_o sure_o i_o be_o this_o way_n of_o proceed_v be_v most_o unchristian_a and_o agree_v not_o at_o all_o with_o that_o good_a spirit_n which_o be_v peaceable_a full_a of_o love_n tenderness_n fear_n humility_n and_o publick-house_n and_o elsewhere_o and_o that_o too_o much_o of_o your_o heart_n and_o spirit_n be_v drink_v up_o about_o such_o matter_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v offensive_a and_o hateful_a to_o the_o contrary_a party_n scandalous_a to_o your_o profession_n and_o doubtless_o a_o great_a hindrance_n to_o other_o more_o serious_a and_o necessary_a work_n and_o in_o some_o even_n to_o the_o forget_v and_o neglect_v the_o weighty_a concern_v of_o their_o own_o soul_n and_o eternal_a happiness_n if_o not_o to_o the_o neglect_n of_o their_o place_n and_o calling_n their_o time_n the_o order_n of_o their_o family_n and_o duty_n in_o their_o relation_n i_o condemn_v none_o in_o particular_a but_o in_o the_o general_a a_o cry_n and_o noise_n there_o be_v abroad_o of_o spend_v time_n this_o way_n and_o good_a christian_n have_v observe_v that_o they_o have_v never_o know_v any_o overmuch_o give_v to_o hear_v or_o take_v up_o and_o tell_v news_n and_o story_n of_o all_o kind_n and_o about_o state-matter_n in_o special_a but_o they_o have_v observe_v a_o great_a decay_n in_o their_o spirit_n and_o find_v they_o grow_v to_o a_o great_a degree_n unsavoury_a lose_v much_o of_o that_o good_a savour_n and_o vigour_n that_o they_o have_v in_o time_n past_a and_o so_o become_v much_o the_o worse_o in_o the_o temper_n of_o their_o spirit_n and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v in_o their_o usefulness_n in_o their_o place_n object_n but_o you_o will_v say_v what_o may_v we_o not_o concern_v ourselves_o in_o the_o affair_n and_o passage_n of_o the_o time_n we_o live_v in_o must_v we_o not_o serve_v our_o generation_n the_o best_a we_o can_v and_o if_o so_o how_o can_v this_o be_v without_o observe_v and_o speak_v about_o the_o matter_n and_o transaction_n herein_o beside_o be_v we_o not_o part_n and_o member_n of_o the_o nation_n and_o kingdom_n we_o be_v bear_v in_o and_o have_v a_o right_n yea_o a_o birthright_n to_o all_o the_o legal_a right_n and_o privilege_n of_o it_o and_o when_o we_o see_v these_o invade_v may_v we_o not_o mind_v it_o and_o speak_v of_o it_o must_v we_o see_v popery_n arbitrary_a government_n come_v on_o apace_o upon_o we_o and_o not_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o nor_o observe_v and_o speak_v of_o it_o be_v not_o our_o life_n liberty_n and_o posterity_n concern_v in_o these_o thing_n and_o have_v not_o there_o be_v hellish_a popish_a plot_n set_v on_o foot_n and_o continue_v against_o we_o to_o be_v sure_a we_o shall_v suffer_v with_o the_o first_o and_o the_o deep_a and_o sure_a all_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o stir_v we_o and_o concern_v we_o etc._n etc._n i_o answer_v first_o no_o doubt_n but_o christian_n may_v concern_v themselves_o in_o the_o state_n and_o affair_n of_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v but_o this_o be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o fit_a way_n without_o scandal_n or_o be_v overbusy_a or_o just_o suspect_v of_o any_o undue_a design_n and_o practice_n and_o i_o who_o know_v something_o of_o the_o dissent_v there_o be_v no_o law_n nor_o exception_n but_o they_o be_v approve_v commend_v by_o all_o both_o good_a and_o bad_a these_o fruit_n thus_o express_v be_v the_o most_o proper_a fruit_n of_o the_o bountiful_a all_o which_o much_o grace_n religion_n and_o the_o profession_n of_o it_o consider_v how_o great_o this_o excellent_a spirit_n and_o bountiful_a temper_n in_o all_o way_n of_o charitable_a deal_n and_o hospitality_n credit_n all_o religion_n even_o a_o false_a one_o and_o it_o be_v so_o natural_a to_o the_o spirit_n and_o principle_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n that_o if_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o be_v more_o it_o will_v infinite_o promote_v and_o propagate_v it_o three_o you_o be_v suspect_v and_o charge_v with_o be_v too_o much_o conform_v to_o this_o world_n and_o some_o of_o you_o as_o much_o as_o any_o viz._n in_o pride_n vanity_n gallantry_n in_o yourselves_o clothes_n habit_n and_o in_o the_o education_n and_o bring_v up_o of_o your_o child_n in_o scandalous_a way_n and_o breed_n according_a to_o the_o pride_n pomp_n and_o vanity_n of_o this_o world_n some_o that_o have_v look_v into_o your_o way_n and_o garb_n yea_o into_o your_o meeting_n congregation_n have_v see_v as_o much_o of_o this_o as_o any_o where_o else_o and_o if_o they_o have_v a_o mind_n to_o see_v more_o they_o may_v go_v from_o thence_o to_o the_o dance_a school_n to_o the_o most_o pompous_a and_o vicious_a part_n of_o they_o your_o ball_n masque_n etc._n etc._n by_o occasion_n of_o all_o which_o some_o scoff_n other_o take_v offence_n other_o be_v grieve_v and_o some_o take_v occasion_n to_o go_v into_o the_o contrary_a extreme_n see_v so_o much_o pride_n and_o vanity_n in_o and_o among_o professor_n four_o that_o you_o be_v often_o find_v oppressor_n hard_a if_o not_o sometime_o cruel_a will_v take_v the_o utmost_a advantage_n you_o can_v will_v not_o relieve_v when_o need_n and_o equity_n require_v but_o will_n like_o other_o man_n or_o the_o worst_a and_o perhaps_o dare_v not_o complain_v to_o you_o nor_o contradict_v you_o for_o fear_v of_o offend_v you_o you_o never_o learn_v this_o of_o christianity_n nor_o of_o christ_n jesus_n the_o author_n of_o it_o five_o that_o when_o you_o be_v injure_v and_o anger_v you_o can_v free_o forgive_v nor_o bear_v much_o but_o be_v too_o apt_a to_o envy_v hate_v take_v the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n passion_n and_o evil_a affection_n of_o the_o flesh_n be_v a_o religion_n quite_o out_o of_o fashion_n and_o by_o many_o disgrace_v and_o disparage_v as_o only_o a_o piece_n of_o dull_a morality_n christian_a man_n make_v no_o work_n nor_o design_n to_o excel_v in_o these_o virtue_n though_o it_o be_v the_o only_a excellent_a way_n to_o glorify_v god_n our_o heavenly_a father_n as_o our_o teach_v by_o you_o and_o so_o shall_v you_o not_o disdain_v to_o hearken_v to_o they_o second_o this_o will_v show_v you_o to_o be_v of_o honest_a ingenuous_a mind_n and_o of_o those_o that_o love_v and_o character_n of_o their_o party_n or_o sect._n e._n g._n the_o popish_a religion_n if_o you_o will_v be_v of_o it_o you_o must_v in_o many_o thing_n deny_v your_o reason_n and_o sense_n too_o e._n g._n in_o the_o infallibility_n of_o their_o church_n and_o in_o the_o great_a and_o senseless_a heresy_n of_o transubstantiation_n with_o many_o other_o so_o to_o be_v admit_v into_o some_o other_o church_n you_o must_v in_o some_o kind_n believe_v as_o the_o church_n believe_v practice_n as_o they_o do_v say_v as_o they_o say_v though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o plain_a against_o your_o own_o reason_n and_o understanding_n e._n g._n you_o must_v submit_v to_o the_o church_n or_o ecclesiastic_a power_n and_o authority_n to_o such_o law_n and_o ceremony_n because_o or_o for_o the_o and_o manifest_a enough_o that_o the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o god_n be_v promise_v to_o we_o and_o do_v concern_v himself_o in_o we_o about_o these_o thing_n but_o we_o be_v not_o where_o teach_v that_o ordinary_o his_o motion_n be_v of_o such_o a_o hot_a and_o strong_a nature_n that_o we_o can_v resist_v they_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a that_o man_n do_v resist_v he_o and_o that_o his_o operation_n may_v be_v resist_v and_o as_o to_o the_o effect_v frustrate_v he_o may_v be_v grieve_v and_o depart_v from_o we_o not_o be_v entertain_v by_o we_o as_o he_o ought_v and_o that_o his_o motion_n be_v ordinary_o soft_a and_o still_o not_o come_v in_o a_o storm_n not_o in_o thunder_n or_o with_o a_o torrent_n but_o such_o that_o by_o man_n careless_a earthly_a lover_n of_o and_o busy_a send_v on_o purpose_n to_o make_v know_v the_o most_o perfect_a will_n of_o god_n and_o do_v at_o the_o first_o in_o a_o most_o plentiful_a manner_n send_v down_o his_o gift_n and_o endowment_n upon_o duty_n belong_v to_o a_o christian_a life_n and_o to_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o command_v of_o god_n to_o the_o glorify_v of_o god_n our_o heavenly_a father_n and_o for_o the_o walk_a worthy_a of_o such_o a_o call_v as_o we_o be_v call_v unto_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v from_o the_o scripture_n and_o to_o give_v ourselves_o to_o the_o study_n of_o they_o with_o understanding_n and_o judgement_n learning_n and_o draw_v our_o duty_n from_o they_o together_o with_o the_o spiritual_a nature_n excellency_n and_o dignity_n of_o the_o thing_n we_o be_v to_o understand_v the_o thing_n of_o god_n and_o of_o eternal_a happiness_n and_o herein_o we_o have_v the_o promise_n and_o may_v expect_v to_o receive_v the_o help_n of_o the_o divine_a spirit_n in_o and_z by_o the_o mean_n of_o our_o study_n and_o enquiry_n only_o it_o be_v necessary_a we_o be_v sincere_a sober_a and_o considerate_a about_o such_o matter_n last_o suppose_v that_o which_o be_v not_o viz._n that_o such_o strong_a motion_n and_o impulse_n shall_v be_v vouchsafe_v and_o allow_v for_o the_o stir_n of_o we_o up_o to_o our_o ordinary_a daily_a work_n and_o duty_n such_o as_o prayer_n meditation_n devotion_n etc._n etc._n suppose_v i_o say_v that_o we_o need_v not_o go_v about_o they_o till_o such_o motion_n be_v strong_a upon_o we_o though_o this_o be_v true_a as_o it_o be_v not_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o the_o best_a nor_o the_o most_o excellent_a way_n of_o obedience_n nor_o of_o the_o performance_n of_o any_o duty_n or_o good_a work_n but_o a_o kind_n of_o weak_a low_a and_o childish_a obedience_n in_o they_o that_o will_v not_o can_v not_o stir_v until_o they_o be_v forcible_o lead_v and_o that_o can_v not_o upon_o the_o appearance_n of_o the_o reason_n necessity_n and_o occasion_n of_o the_o duty_n set_v themselves_o about_o it_o or_o know_v when_o to_o do_v it_o out_o of_o doubt_n it_o must_v be_v judge_v the_o most_o free_a most_o generous_a and_o excellent_a kind_n of_o obedience_n to_o do_v and_o set_v about_o our_o duty_n that_o we_o know_v to_o be_v so_o though_o we_o feel_v no_o such_o powerful_a motion_n nor_o strong_a inclination_n to_o it_o as_o long_o as_o our_o reason_n
