attend_v to_o false_a teacher_n and_o satan_n temptation_n they_o begin_v to_o question_v whether_o christ_n die_v for_o they_o and_o then_o all_o their_o unstable_a hope_n vanish_v and_o their_o unsettled_a heart_n be_v hurry_v into_o a_o labyrinth_n of_o soul_n dstemper_v confusion_n the_o lord_n pity_v these_o poor_a creature_n and_o deliver_v they_o from_o all_o self_n contradict_v yea_o god_n contradict_v teacher_n who_o hold_v the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n and_o whereas_o mr._n troughton_n say_v that_o man_n will_v argue_v that_o if_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o man_n then_o for_o i_o i_o shall_v be_v save_v though_o i_o go_v on_o and_o enjoy_v my_o lust_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v nothing_o so_o and_o they_o that_o hold_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o man_n according_a in_o half_n say_v the_o contrary_a and_o wherein_o be_v the_o first_o act_n of_o grace_n manifest_v but_o in_o god_n give_v of_o christ_n to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o that_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o themselves_o and_o despise_v other_o and_o that_o christ_n never_o buy_v wicked_a man_n and_o heretic_n but_o only_o seem_v so_o to_o do_v if_o i_o can_v see_v the_o man_n that_o have_v not_o be_v a_o wicked_a man_n or_o a_o heretic_n i_o shall_v it_o may_v be_v say_v so_o too_o but_o there_o be_v not_o that_o man_n on_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o have_v not_o be_v one_o or_o both_o of_o these_o as_o every_o humble_a heart_n will_v ingenuous_o confess_v and_o that_o it_o be_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n the_o tree_n that_o bear_v it_o a_o good_a tree_n can_v yield_v such_o corrupt_a fruit_n the_o great_a god_n lay_v his_o axe_n to_o the_o root_n of_o it_o and_o pluck_v up_o every_o plant_n that_o his_o hand_n have_v not_o plant_v not_o by_o might_n nor_o by_o power_n but_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n but_o if_o mr._n tro._n have_v better_a use_n which_o clear_o come_v from_o his_o doctrine_n i_o wonder_v he_o do_v not_o produce_v they_o for_o my_o part_n i_o shall_v as_o brief_o as_o i_o can_v show_v you_o that_o read_v these_o thing_n what_o use_v the_o lord_n have_v teach_v i_o by_o his_o spirit_n in_o the_o word_n to_o make_v of_o the_o doctrine_n that_o i_o hold_v forth_o and_o which_o m._n tro._n call_v heretical_a erroneous_a and_o corrupt_a opinion_n a_o corrupt_a tree_n can_v bring_v forth_o good_a fruit_n search_v therefore_o courteous_a reader_n and_o see_v whether_o the_o use_v i_o be_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o lord_n about_o to_o lay_v down_o be_v good_a and_o then_o whether_o they_o be_v not_o the_o natural_a and_o genuine_a issue_n of_o those_o doctrine_n which_o man_n call_v heretical_a 1._o if_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o which_o be_v paul_n doctrine_n and_o i_o 1._o for_o the_o world_n for_o the_o whole_a world_n for_o every_o man_n as_o the_o scripture_n say_v etc._n etc._n it_o may_v serve_v to_o convince_v m._n tro._n and_o every_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o he_o die_v for_o he_o and_o she_o that_o hear_v this_o glad_a tiding_n and_o that_o there_o be_v good_a news_n or_o gospel_n for_o they_o and_o also_o to_o convince_v they_o of_o sin_n who_o believe_v not_o on_o he_o which_o can_v not_o be_v if_o he_o die_v not_o for_o they_o 2._o it_o serve_v to_o reprove_v they_o that_o continue_v in_o sin_n and_o act_v contrary_a to_o he_o that_o give_v his_o only_a son_n to_o die_v for_o they_o 3._o it_o inform_v we_o of_o the_o great_a and_o infinite_a love_n of_o the_o father_n that_o give_v his_o only_a son_n &_o he_o his_o dear_a heart_n blood_n first_o virtual_o in_o the_o promise_n then_o actual_o in_o person_n rather_o then_o lose_v man_n shall_v want_v a_o redeemer_n and_o withal_o to_o inform_v man_n of_o the_o horrid_a and_o odious_a nature_n of_o sin_n which_o nothing_o can_v full_o take_v away_o without_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n 4._o this_o may_v serve_v to_o persuade_v yea_o constrain_v sinner_n who_o do_v all_o live_v through_o jesus_n christ_n to_o love_v he_o that_o love_v they_o first_o and_o give_v his_o son_n to_o be_v a_o propitiation_n for_o they_o and_o to_o keep_v his_o commandment_n that_o be_v to_o live_v to_o he_o that_o die_v for_o they_o and_o rise_v again_o 5._o this_o may_v encourage_v the_o great_a sinner_n that_o groan_v under_o sin_n to_o forsake_v sin_n and_o come_v to_o christ_n who_o see_v he_o love_v he_o so_o well_o as_o to_o die_v for_o he_o will_v in_o no_o wise_a cast_v
he_o out_o when_o by_o the_o word_n or_o teach_n of_o god_n which_o be_v his_o drawing_n he_o come_v to_o he_o 6._o to_o reprove_v obstinate_a proud_a rebel_n who_o deny_v the_o lord_n that_o buy_v and_o dare_v sin_n against_o such_o grace_n and_o kindness_n as_o be_v see_v by_o the_o father_n give_v his_o son_n for_o they_o 7._o this_o serve_v to_o leave_v all_o man_n without_o excuse_n they_o can_v say_v that_o god_n have_v not_o commend_v his_o love_n to_o they_o see_v he_o have_v write_v it_o in_o legible_a character_n of_o his_o son_n blood_n 8._o here_o be_v consolation_n for_o the_o saint_n who_o through_o the_o knowledge_n of_o such_o love_n have_v be_v draw_v to_o obey_v god_n they_o know_v who_o and_o in_o who_o they_o have_v believe_v and_o be_v as_o sure_o that_o christ_n die_v for_o they_o as_o if_o he_o have_v tell_v they_o with_o his_o own_o mouth_n in_o that_o they_o believe_v the_o scripture_n affirm_v that_o he_o ransom_v all_o 9_o this_o may_v serve_v to_o they_o as_o a_o antidote_n against_o sin_n and_o error_n in_o that_o christ_n die_v for_o their_o sin_n according_a to_o the_o scripture_n 10._o it_o may_v serve_v to_o incite_v we_o to_o love_v every_o creature_n with_o the_o love_n of_o good_a will_n or_o pity_n at_o least_o when_o we_o remember_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o they_o as_o well_o as_o for_o we_o oh_o if_o this_o doctrine_n be_v full_o know_v it_o will_v so_o increase_v love_n and_o quench_v hatred_n discord_n and_o debate_n peace_n justice_n and_o mercy_n will_v flourish_v and_o war_n oppression_n and_o cruelty_n will_v be_v banish_v some_o beam_n of_o this_o universal_a love_n of_o god_n beginning_n to_o shine_v forth_o upon_o the_o heart_n of_o our_o commander_n ruler_n judge_n etc._n etc._n have_v incline_v they_o to_o more_o clemency_n righteousness_n and_o pity_n then_o some_o former_a timeâ—_n have_v afford_v and_o as_o it_o be_v more_o manifest_v we_o shall_v doubtless_o see_v more_o of_o god_n who_o be_v love_n and_o love_v we_o when_o enemy_n appearing_n it_o be_v true_a a_o man_n that_o true_o fear_v god_n can_v delight_v in_o a_o ungodly_a person_n neither_o can_v our_o heavenly_a father_n yet_o by_o their_o continual_a appeal_n to_o the_o civil_a yea_o and_o military_a power_n their_o complaint_n and_o petition_n against_o such_o as_o hold_v the_o truth_n in_o love_n by_o all_o mean_n labour_v to_o persuade_v the_o magistrate_n to_o unsheathe_v their_o sword_n to_o cut_v off_o banish_z or_o silence_n by_o might_n of_o man_n those_o who_o be_v full_a of_o might_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o declare_v against_o their_o corrupt_a principle_n and_o practice_n they_o have_v a_o zeal_n but_o not_o according_a to_o knowledge_n for_o do_v they_o know_v what_o love_n the_o father_n have_v show_v those_o who_o they_o malign_v and_o what_o sweet_a communion_n they_o have_v with_o god_n and_o that_o god_n love_v those_o who_o they_o hate_v so_o as_o to_o give_v his_o son_n to_o die_v for_o they_o they_o will_v never_o suffer_v that_o curse_a root_n that_o bear_v gall_n and_o wormwood_n to_o spring_v up_o in_o their_o heart_n but_o will_v endeavour_v to_o instruct_v they_o with_o meekness_n or_o contend_v against_o they_o at_o least_o with_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o this_o they_o do_v not_o but_o by_o all_o mean_n seek_v their_o impoverishment_n and_o ruin_n and_o will_v not_o speak_v to_o they_o though_o they_o bring_v the_o same_o doctrine_n which_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n teach_v they_o shun_v dispute_v with_o they_o under_o pretext_n that_o they_o be_v heretic_n and_o reject_v they_o not_o know_v that_o that_o advise_v be_v proper_a to_o those_o that_o be_v member_n together_o of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o not_o those_o that_o be_v of_o different_a church_n for_o what_o authority_n have_v any_o church_n to_o cast_v out_o or_o reject_v one_o that_o be_v not_o immembr_v with_o they_o but_o the_o truth_n be_v these_o man_n be_v afraid_a of_o the_o light_n and_o have_v no_o love_n to_o such_o as_o be_v of_o paul_n opinion_n that_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o and_o therefore_o they_o incense_v give_v the_o scripture_n yea_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n the_o lie_n who_o in_o so_o many_o placeâ—_n have_v clear_o evidence_v it_o yet_o they_o deny_v what_o be_v there_o write_v and_o will_v have_v we_o rather_o adhere_v to_o their_o exposition_n which_o be_v all_o dark_a than_o the_o text_n again_o 2._o if_o god_n have_v of_o his_o free_a mercy_n in_o christ_n appoint_v and_o ordain_v all_o man_n to_o serve_v he_o and_o furnish_v they_o with_o every_o thing_n necessary_a for_o so_o do_v so_o that_o all_o nation_n may_v know_v and_o believe_v he_o through_o that_o light_n which_o light_v baptize_v to_o separate_v from_o the_o world_n and_o such_o again_o to_o continue_v in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o fellowship_n and_o doctrine_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o break_v of_o bread_n and_o prayer_n in_o praise_v of_o god_n in_o holiness_n of_o life_n watch_v against_o sin_n and_o for_o the_o come_n of_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n jesus_n christ_n it_o be_v true_a all_o according_a to_o their_o demand_n for_o to_o expound_v they_o by_o their_o corrupt_a gloss_n and_o theâ—_n also_o great_a will_v be_v the_o company_n of_o the_o publisher_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n will_v so_o fill_v their_o heart_n as_o with_o new_a wine_n that_o they_o can_v not_o but_o declare_v what_o god_n have_v do_v for_o their_o soul_n and_o this_o will_v make_v false_a teacher_n fill_v with_o the_o wisdom_n of_o this_o world_n fret_v when_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v reveal_v to_o and_o by_o babe_n in_o the_o gospel_n 3._o self_n be_v much_o a_o enemy_n to_o it_o for_o most_o man_n yea_o all_o those_o many_o thousand_o which_o now_o own_o this_o truth_n of_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o do_v well_o know_v that_o not_o the_o glorious_a light_n of_o these_o truth_n which_o man_n call_v heresy_n and_o erroneous_a opinion_n i_o be_o not_o unacquainted_a with_o the_o toss_n and_o torment_n of_o mind_n which_o they_o be_v subject_a to_o that_o hold_v the_o doctrine_n contrary_a to_o these_o in_o the_o forego_n treatise_n insist_v on_o their_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n and_o dubiousnesse_n of_o heart_n one_o while_o even_o drown_v they_o in_o black_a despair_n another_o while_n their_o foundationlesse_a faith_n and_o groundless_a confidence_n through_o the_o exceed_a subtlety_n of_o satan_n make_v they_o to_o dare_v to_o adventure_v upon_o a_o sin_n upon_o this_o score_n that_o if_o they_o be_v elect_v they_o can_v hereby_o fall_v final_o and_o if_o they_o be_v not_o it_o will_v not_o be_v any_o impair_n of_o their_o irrecoverable_a hopeless_a condition_n i_o know_v satan_n will_v provoke_v man_n to_o fret_v exceed_o against_o these_o thing_n with_o the_o high_a rise_n and_o lifting_n up_o of_o spirit_n but_o it_o be_v my_o own_o experience_n in_o former_a time_n and_o of_o hundred_o who_o have_v communicate_v they_o with_o i_o since_o the_o day_n of_o their_o conversion_n i_o can_v neither_o will_v i_o conceal_v the_o counsel_n and_o cunning_a of_o so_o great_a a_o enemy_n but_o speak_v truth_n to_o he_o yea_o to_o my_o own_o shame_n neither_o be_o i_o ignorant_a of_o the_o strong_a consolation_n in_o obedience_n the_o strength_n against_o temptation_n the_o heedful_a diligence_n care_n and_o watchfullnesse_n against_o sin_n which_o they_o be_v possess_v with_o who_o know_o and_o cordial_o hold_v and_o lay_v to_o heart_n that_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o for_o thereby_o they_o be_v so_o sure_a that_o he_o die_v for_o they_o that_o it_o be_v a_o hard_a matter_n for_o the_o devil_n and_o world_n to_o drive_v his_o love_n out_o of_o their_o heart_n and_o draw_v they_o into_o disobedience_n but_o they_o that_o hold_v the_o contrary_a call_v the_o truth_n of_o many_o and_o so_o at_o length_n of_o all_o the_o scripture_n into_o question_n as_o the_o shropshire_n minister_n confess_v pagâ—_n 1._o of_o their_o nameless_a paper_n and_o i_o be_o confident_a that_o as_o the_o lord_n have_v so_o he_o will_v bless_v this_o doctrine_n with_o those_o that_o profess_v it_o and_o practice_v that_o holiness_n righteousness_n and_o sobriety_n which_o that_o grace_n of_o god_n which_o br_v salvation_n to_o all_o man_n teach_v and_o by_o his_o own_o spirit_n not_o the_o word_n and_o arm_n of_o flesh_n will_v signal_o appear_v to_o the_o overturning_a of_o that_o great_a mountain_n of_o false_a doctrine_n that_o have_v keep_v poor_a creature_n from_o behold_v the_o face_n of_o the_o son_n of_o righteousness_n in_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o that_o they_o who_o say_v christ_n do_v not_o die_v for_o all_o so_o give_v the_o lie_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o that_o god_n do_v absolute_o appoint_v the_o great_a part_n of_o man_n to_o be_v disobedient_a not_o give_v they_o ability_n to_o do_v what_o he_o require_v and_o yet_o will_v damn_v they_o for_o not_o do_v it_o that_o god_n command_v man_n to_o do_v that_o which_o he_o will_v work_v in_o they_o by_o a_o irresistible_a power_n and_o to_o make_v as_o though_o god_n contradict_v himself_o that_o the_o lord_n that_o buy_v false_a teacher_n be_v not_o christ_n etc._n etc._n shall_v be_v convince_v or_o cover_v with_o the_o cloak_n of_o confusion_n for_o my_o part_n if_o any_o malign_v i_o for_o the_o publish_n of_o this_o plain_a downright_a discourse_n i_o
