belong_v thereunto_o obj._n but_o one_o objection_n more_o may_v seem_v very_o material_a and_o weighty_a to_o many_o namely_o thus_o in_o this_o treatise_n of_o essential_a christianity_n why_o be_v there_o no_o mention_n make_v of_o baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n and_o of_o preach_v the_o word_n and_o prayer_n be_v not_o these_o essential_a thing_n in_o christianity_n and_o why_o be_v particular_o peter_n tell_v we_o of_o a_o baptism_n that_o save_v we_o and_o that_o must_v needs_o be_v essential_a 1_o pet._n 3.21_o the_o like_a figure_n whereunto_o even_o baptism_n do_v also_o now_o save_v we_o not_o the_o put_v away_o of_o the_o filth_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o the_o answer_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n towards_o god_n by_o the_o resurrection_n of_o jesus_n christ._n this_o indeed_o be_v essential_a namely_o the_o answer_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n towards_o god_n which_o be_v a_o baptism_n indeed_o and_o which_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n for_o also_o which_o be_v essential_a to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n which_o our_o lord_n himself_o speak_v of_o rev._n 3.20_o behold_v i_o stand_v aâ—_n the_o door_n and_o knock_n if_o any_o man_n supper_n and_o other_o ordinance_n as_o we_o may_v well_o presume_v they_o have_v as_o well_o as_o other_o church_n and_o especial_o because_o they_o think_v themselves_o rich_a in_o such_o thing_n and_o increase_v with_o good_n have_v needs_o of_o nothing_o which_o blind_v their_o eye_n so_o that_o they_o know_v not_o that_o they_o be_v wretched_a and_o miserable_a and_o poor_a and_o blind_a and_o naked_a and_o so_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o church_n of_o asia_n they_o be_v all_o in_o church_n fellowship_n enjoy_v the_o outward_a ordinance_n but_o that_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o they_o be_v gather_v in_o thither_o as_o into_o a_o nursery_n or_o garden_n to_o the_o end_n they_o shall_v grow_v up_o in_o grace_n and_o bring_v forth_o good_a fruit_n unto_o god_n so_o there_o be_v a_o prayer_n that_o be_v essential_a and_o have_v communion_n with_o god_n viz._n when_o in_o the_o spirit_n we_o worship_v god_n and_o when_o the_o spirit_n make_v intercession_n in_o we_o according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n there_o be_v also_o preach_v or_o a_o hold_v forth_o of_o truth_n which_o be_v essential_a when_o the_o lord_n require_v it_o whether_o it_o be_v by_o a_o righteous_a life_n or_o by_o bear_v testimony_n to_o the_o truth_n but_o these_o thing_n i_o leave_v out_o which_o the_o worldly_a spirit_n may_v clothe_v itself_o with_o all_o and_o under_o that_o cloak_n live_v wicked_o yea_o and_o hate_v the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o christianity_n as_o may_v be_v do_v under_o a_o verbal_a profession_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n as_o well_o as_o under_o the_o old_a when_o the_o false_a prophet_n and_o such_o as_o adhere_v to_o they_o persecute_v the_o true_a prophet_n and_o yet_o though_o they_o be_v persecutor_n of_o the_o true_a they_o bring_v oblatious_a to_o god_n and_o burn_v incense_n to_o he_o and_o keep_v solemn_a meeting_n and_o fast_n and_o come_v as_o a_o people_n that_o delight_v to_o draw_v near_o unto_o the_o lord_n and_o make_v many_o prayer_n to_o he_o and_o their_o heart_n in_o all_o this_o far_o from_o he_o and_o so_o may_v it_o be_v now_o and_o therefore_o such_o thing_n i_o omit_v and_o point_n at_o such_o thing_n as_o wherein_o a_o soul_n draw_v near_o to_o god_n and_o be_v approve_v of_o god_n and_o in_o which_o he_o come_v to_o some_o enjoyment_n of_o spiritual_a blessing_n and_o by_o degree_n come_v into_o possession_n of_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n have_v abuse_v they_o because_o the_o persecution_n lie_v most_o thereupon_o if_o not_o altogether_o the_o papist_n they_o persecute_v because_o people_n relinquish_v their_o form_n the_o episcopal_a the_o presbyterian_a etc._n etc._n they_o all_o do_v the_o like_a though_o a_o man_n be_v just_a and_o upright_o in_o his_o conversation_n yet_o if_o he_o draw_v from_o their_o form_n they_o hate_v they_o revile_v they_o persecute_v at_o least_o with_o the_o tongue_n and_o why_o be_v this_o but_o because_o they_o follow_v the_o lamb_n who_o say_v in_o their_o spirit_n come_v out_o of_o she_o my_o people_n be_v he_o that_o go_v before_o his_o true_a follower_n and_o lead_v they_o out_o gentle_o and_o therefore_o say_v come_v out_o and_o this_o come_n out_o i_o say_v be_v a_o great_a ordinance_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o discovery_n and_o dissolution_n of_o all_o corrupt_a worship_n and_o the_o follower_n of_o christ_n herein_o be_v dignify_v with_o this_o honour_n that_o it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o these_o be_v they_o which_o follow_v the_o lamb_n whithersoever_o he_o go_v but_o note_n they_o be_v such_o as_o true_o follow_v the_o lamb_n in_o sin_n that_o we_o may_v rise_v with_o comfort_n hereafter_o we_o be_v judge_v of_o the_o lord_n here_o that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v condemn_v with_o the_o world_n and_o we_o be_v make_v to_o judge_v ourselves_o here_o that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v judge_v bless_a and_o holy_a be_v he_o that_o have_v part_n in_o the_o first_o resurrection_n on_o he_o the_o second_o death_n have_v no_o power_n so_o that_o hope_n have_v so_o sure_a a_o foundation_n it_o be_v as_o a_o anchor_n sure_a and_o steadfast_a and_o tend_v great_o to_o a_o essential_a christian_a life_n to_o bear_v we_o up_o therein_o in_o hold_v on_o in_o patience_n do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o deny_v the_o pleasurable_a and_o easy_a path_n of_o unrighteousness_n this_o hope_n of_o a_o eternal_a inheritance_n make_v we_o not_o ashamed_a to_o bear_v reproach_n for_o christ_n sake_n and_o for_o observe_v his_o command_n though_o we_o be_v account_v as_o the_o of-scouring_a or_o refuse_v of_o all_o thing_n for_o so_o do_v so_o that_o hope_n be_v as_o a_o helmet_n upon_o our_o head_n to_o bear_v we_o up_o under_o all_o the_o vilifying_n of_o the_o world_n i_o know_v it_o be_v a_o common_a thing_n with_o many_o if_o not_o well_o i_o will_v not_o dash_v thy_o hope_n in_o god_n mercy_n but_o rather_o strengthen_v it_o and_o help_v to_o raise_v it_o up_o high_a but_o take_v heed_n how_o thou_o expose_v thy_o hope_n and_o thyself_o therewith_o to_o judgement_n in_o break_v the_o command_n of_o the_o great_a judge_n who_o be_v to_o judge_v theâ—_n and_o all_o the_o world_n who_o have_v say_v swear_v not_o at_o all_o do_v not_o yet_o appear_v what_o we_o shall_v be_v but_o we_o know_v that_o when_o he_o shall_v appear_v we_o shall_v be_v like_o he_o for_o we_o shall_v see_v he_o as_o he_o be_v oh_o brethren_n how_o can_v one_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n and_o give_v himself_o up_o to_o a_o loose_a wicked_a life_n and_o conversation_n nay_o this_o hope_n tend_v great_o to_o the_o essential_a life_n of_o the_o same_o christ_n there_o may_v be_v something_o essential_a also_o to_o a_o christian_a life_n but_o not_o as_o they_o be_v such_o or_o such_o a_o form_n but_o as_o the_o lord_n shall_v require_v or_o lead_v man_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o exercise_v their_o spirit_n for_o the_o trial_n of_o they_o whether_o they_o will_v follow_v he_o whithersoever_o he_o lead_v either_o into_o they_o or_o out_o of_o the_o nâ—_n bear_v the_o reproach_n of_o the_o world_n and_o show_v their_o obedience_n in_o answer_v that_o measure_n of_o light_n wherewith_o he_o do_v illuminate_v they_o and_o in_o themselves_o from_o their_o form_n and_o so_o to_o overlook_v the_o righteous_a life_n in_o other_o and_o then_o they_o fall_v into_o the_o number_n of_o those_o who_o be_v exalt_v in_o their_o form_n say_v in_o their_o heart_n stand_v by_o thyself_o come_v not_o near_o to_o i_o for_o i_o be_o holy_a than_o thou_o and_o this_o now_o provoke_v the_o lord_n to_o wrath_n and_o he_o will_v rather_o thitherward_o as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o zion_n some_o be_v weep_v and_o mourn_v and_o hunger_a and_o thirst_v after_o god_n righteousness_n these_o if_o they_o hold_v on_o be_v under_o a_o blessing_n
