and_o sit_v upon_o they_o as_o a_o bird_n upon_o her_o egg_n by_o his_o divine_a virtue_n frame_v the_o several_a distinct_a creature_n out_o of_o the_o common_a mass_n as_o she_o by_o her_o natural_a warmth_n bring_v forth_o her_o young_a one_o after_o her_o kind_n with_o all_o the_o distinct_a part_n of_o their_o body_n out_o of_o the_o shapeless_a lump_n of_o matter_n in_o the_o egg_n according_a to_o this_o sense_n do_v the_o best_a expositor_n take_v that_o metaphor_n so_o say_v the_o psalmist_n in_o psal._n 104.30_o thou_o send_v forth_o thy_o spirit_n they_o be_v create_v so_o that_o the_o father_n creat_v by_o the_o son_n through_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o therefore_o albeit_o we_o use_v to_o call_v god_n the_o father_n the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n as_o be_v express_v in_o our_o creed_n yet_o must_v we_o not_o exclude_v the_o son_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n although_o the_o father_n be_v first_o in_o order_n of_o work_v thus_o you_o see_v that_o god_n make_v all_o thing_n as_o solomon_n say_v proverb_n 16.4_o 2._o now_o we_o must_v consider_v in_o what_o manner_n all_o thing_n be_v thus_o wrought_v by_o he_o 1._o the_o world_n without_o the_o use_n or_o help_v of_o any_o instrument_n iii_o of_o what_o matter_n they_o be_v make_v of_o nothing_o in_o all_o the_o artificial_a work_n of_o man_n we_o look_v to_o the_o stuff_n or_o matter_n out_o of_o which_o they_o be_v make_v but_o here_o be_v none_o god_n make_v all_o thing_n mere_o of_o nothing_o there_o be_v no_o matter_n precede_v his_o work_n it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v a_o common_a rude_a unwrought_a lump_n of_o thing_n before_o the_o distinct_a and_o orderly_a creation_n of_o thing_n out_o of_o which_o distinct_a and_o several_a creature_n be_v frame_v but_o this_o also_o be_v create_v by_o god_n so_o that_o original_o all_o thing_n be_v create_v of_o nothing_o job._n 1.3_o all_o thing_n be_v make_v by_o â—im_n and_o therefore_o that_o thing_n out_o of_o which_o all_o other_o thing_n
they_o be_v create_v it_o be_v uncertain_a some_o think_v it_o be_v the_o first_o day_n with_o the_o light_n and_o that_o be_v not_o unlikely_a but_o we_o must_v not_o speak_v peremptory_o where_o the_o scripture_n be_v silent_a howsoever_o both_o scripture_n and_o reason_n do_v prove_v that_o they_o be_v make_v though_o the_o time_n of_o their_o creation_n as_o well_o as_o many_o other_o thing_n concern_v they_o be_v hide_v from_o we_o because_o not_o necessary_a for_o we_o to_o know_v chap._n 2._o their_o knowledge_n be_v either_o natural_a give_v they_o at_o the_o first_o creation_n or_o supernatural_a by_o revelation_n from_o god_n or_o acquire_v and_o get_v by_o experience_n that_o they_o have_v excellent_a knowledge_n at_o their_o creation_n there_o be_v no_o question_n be_v make_v more_o excellent_a than_o man_n who_o yet_o at_o the_o first_o have_v a_o admirable_a measure_n of_o knowledge_n give_v unto_o he_o the_o knowledge_n which_o they_o have_v of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o work_n be_v admirable_a from_o their_o very_a creation_n though_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o infinite_a it_o do_v not_o reach_v to_o thing_n to_o come_v unless_o it_o be_v indirect_o by_o a_o consideration_n of_o some_o thing_n present_a thereby_o collect_v what_o will_v follow_v or_o by_o see_v thing_n in_o their_o cause_n otherwise_o they_o have_v no_o certain_a natural_a knowledge_n of_o thing_n mere_o future_a for_o that_o be_v the_o prerogative_n of_o god_n deny_v to_o the_o creature_n but_o beside_o this_o they_o have_v a_o supernatural_a knowledge_n reveal_v of_o god_n unto_o they_o and_o thus_o they_o come_v acquaint_v with_o many_o thing_n to_o come_v when_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o give_v they_o knowledge_n of_o they_o so_o the_o angel_n gabriel_n know_v that_o christ_n shall_v be_v conceive_v in_o the_o womb_n of_o the_o virgin_n mary_n because_o the_o lord_n have_v reveal_v this_o to_o he_o and_o send_v he_o to_o acquaint_v she_o with_o it_o so_o on_o the_o contrary_a the_o lie_a spirit_n know_v that_o ahab_n shall_v fall_v at_o ramoth-gilead_n because_o the_o lord_n have_v reveal_v so_o much_o to_o he_o beside_o this_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o they_o have_v wonderful_o increase_v their_o knowledge_n these_o many_o year_n which_o have_v pass_v since_o their_o first_o creation_n consider_v this_o that_o be_v spirit_n and_o not_o have_v their_o understanding_n dim_v by_o any_o gross_a vapour_n arise_v from_o the_o body_n nor_o interrupt_v in_o their_o speculation_n by_o any_o bodily_a pain_n or_o sickness_n nor_o be_v subject_n to_o weariness_n nor_o in_o any_o sort_n hinder_v or_o disable_v by_o old_a age_n nor_o distract_v by_o seek_v necessary_a supply_n for_o the_o body_n all_o which_o be_v impediment_n incident_a to_o bodily_a substance_n and_o beside_o all_o these_o have_v have_v many_o thousand_o year_n wherein_o to_o increase_v their_o knowledge_n it_o be_v beyond_o our_o imagination_n to_o think_v to_o what_o a_o height_n they_o be_v grow_v by_o this_o mean_n the_o apostle_n show_v that_o the_o holy_a angel_n do_v increase_v their_o knowledge_n in_o the_o gospel_n by_o the_o preach_a of_o the_o apostle_n eph._n 3.8_o unto_o i_o who_o be_o less_o than_o the_o least_o of_o all_o saint_n be_v this_o grace_n give_v that_o i_o shall_v preach_v among_o the_o gentile_n the_o unsearchable_a riches_n of_o christ_n that_o man_n may_v learn_v as_o he_o say_v vers._n 9_o but_o this_o be_v not_o all_o there_o be_v scholar_n also_o of_o a_o high_a form_n in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n sc_n the_o angel_n themselves_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o now_o unto_o principality_n and_o power_n in_o heavenly_a place_n may_v be_v know_v by_o the_o church_n the_o manifold_a wisdom_n of_o god_n vers._n 10._o this_o may_v seem_v strange_a that_o angel_n shall_v learn_v of_o man_n but_o this_o we_o must_v know_v that_o it_o be_v not_o paul_n nor_o any_o mortal_a man_n that_o of_o himself_o can_v teach_v these_o immortal_a spirit_n any_o knowledge_n which_o they_o have_v not_o but_o it_o be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o who_o be_v infinite_o above_o man_n and_o angel_n that_o speak_v by_o the_o apostle_n to_o the_o angel_n and_o out_o of_o the_o mouth_n of_o man_n do_v teach_v these_o glorious_a spirit_n but_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o the_o end_n of_o this_o knowledge_n in_o angel_n and_o man_n for_o man_n must_v learn_v the_o mystery_n of_o grace_n both_o that_o they_o may_v believe_v and_o be_v save_v and_o also_o that_o they_o may_v admire_v and_o magnify_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n grace_n in_o the_o work_n of_o redemption_n but_o the_o angel_n do_v not_o learn_v this_o for_o their_o own_o redemption_n who_o never_o fall_v into_o sin_n and_o therefore_o need_v no_o pardon_n but_o that_o they_o may_v glorify_v god_n and_o rejoice_v in_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o elect._n and_o as_o god_n the_o son_n do_v choose_v to_o unite_v to_o himself_o not_o the_o nature_n of_o angel_n but_o of_o man_n so_o god_n the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v choose_v rather_o to_o speak_v by_o man_n to_o the_o angel_n in_o this_o mystery_n concern_v god_n the_o son_n be_v god_n and_o man_n than_o by_o the_o angel_n to_o men._n now_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o the_o evil_a angel_n also_o do_v learn_v the_o gospel-mystery_n which_o they_o also_o believe_v and_o tremble_v they_o be_v constant_a hearer_n and_o it_o may_v well_o be_v think_v that_o there_o be_v never_o a_o sermon_n which_o be_v likely_a to_o bring_v any_o danger_n to_o their_o kingdom_n but_o that_o some_o of_o they_o be_v present_a though_o for_o no_o good_a intent_n yea_o when_o they_o hinder_v other_o from_o learning_n yet_o they_o learn_v themselves_o though_o they_o never_o mean_v to_o practice_v and_o as_o the_o angel_n good_a and_o evil_n have_v increase_v their_o knowledge_n in_o the_o mystery_n of_o christ_n so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o they_o have_v do_v the_o like_a in_o other_o thing_n by_o their_o long_a experience_n now_o you_o must_v not_o think_v there_o be_v a_o essential_a or_o natural_a difference_n between_o the_o good_a and_o evil_a angel_n though_o they_o differ_v exceed_o in_o regard_n of_o moral_a good_a or_o evil_n no_o more_o than_o there_o be_v between_o good_a and_o evil_a men._n peter_n and_o judas_n be_v both_o man_n though_o the_o difference_n be_v great_a in_o their_o end_n and_o in_o their_o disposition_n chap._n 3._o now_o i_o come_v to_o speak_v brief_o of_o both_o these_o sort_n apart_o and_o first_o of_o the_o good_a angel_n such_o as_o all_o be_v at_o the_o first_o for_o as_o for_o the_o evil_a angel_n they_o be_v not_o so_o by_o their_o creation_n and_o therefore_o as_o they_o be_v evil_a they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v reckon_v among_o the_o creature_n we_o may_v safe_o say_v that_o god_n make_v no_o devil_n for_o though_o he_o make_v those_o creature_n which_o now_o be_v wicked_a devil_n yet_o he_o make_v they_o not_o devil_n but_o holy_a angel_n excellent_a and_o glorious_a spirit_n but_o i_o shall_v not_o speak_v of_o they_o here_o now_o for_o the_o good_a angel_n 1._o consider_v their_o perfection_n which_o be_v both_o of_o nature_n and_o of_o grace_n the_o lord_n at_o the_o first_o give_v they_o a_o excellent_a perfection_n of_o nature_n whereby_o he_o make_v they_o good_a perfect_a and_o complete_a according_a to_o their_o kind_n so_o that_o they_o want_v no_o excellency_n which_o belong_v to_o create_v spirit_n and_o perfect_a intellectual_a nature_n so_o doubtless_o they_o have_v natural_o admirable_a power_n and_o strength_n give_v they_o as_o appear_z psal._n 103.20_o bless_v the_o lord_n you_o his_o angel_n mighty_a in_o strength_n one_o angel_n invade_v a_o whole_a camp_n of_o soldier_n and_o in_o one_o night_n slay_v 185000_o man_n their_o agility_n speed_n and_o quickness_n be_v extraordinary_a how_o swift_o do_v the_o wind_n fly_v through_o the_o air_n but_o these_o spirit_n be_v far_o more_o quick_a and_o active_a and_o therefore_o the_o cherubin_n be_v describe_v with_o wing_n and_o so_o the_o seraphim_n also_o yea_o they_o be_v call_v a_o quickness_n perfect_a holiness_n love_v to_o god_n joy_n in_o he_o unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a and_o especial_o a_o most_o happy_a habitation_n in_o the_o glorious_a presence_n of_o god_n and_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n to_o this_o natural_a perfection_n which_o all_o angel_n have_v at_o first_o and_o which_o the_o good_a angel_n still_o have_v we_o suppose_v must_v be_v add_v a_o perfection_n of_o free_a grace_n whereby_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o confirm_v some_o of_o they_o in_o their_o first_o estate_n leave_v some_o to_o themselves_o as_o he_o

have_v feel_v more_o misery_n long_o ago_o than_o any_o ever_o feel_v upon_o the_o earth_n and_o this_o every_o one_o may_v seem_o acknowledge_v who_o heart_n god_n have_v touch_v be_v it_o not_o great_a unthankfulness_n thus_o to_o requite_v the_o lord_n because_o thou_o have_v enjoy_v so_o much_o plenty_n heretofore_o thou_o shall_v now_o much_o the_o rather_o with_o patience_n endure_v some_o scarcity_n because_o thou_o have_v receive_v good_a thou_o shall_v with_o more_o submission_n bear_v some_o evil_n or_o want_v of_o that_o measure_n of_o good_a as_o job_n reason_v with_o his_o wife_n nay_o if_o many_o be_v put_v to_o it_o i_o be_o persuade_v they_o can_v not_o say_v in_o their_o conscience_n that_o â—ver_o they_o do_v pray_v for_o this_o blessing_n feel_o and_o effectual_o and_o be_v it_o not_o a_o shame_n for_o thou_o to_o murmur_v against_o the_o lord_n for_o not_o give_v that_o which_o thou_o never_o do_v effectual_o ask_v nay_o if_o we_o shall_v consider_v the_o horrible_a abuse_n of_o god_n creature_n by_o all_o sort_n rich_a and_o poor_a we_o may_v just_o wonder_v that_o the_o heaven_n be_v not_o long_o since_o harden_v into_o brass_n and_o the_o earth_n into_o iron_n against_o we_o 3._o among_o these_o plant_n observe_v how_o weed_n and_o other_o hurtful_a thing_n do_v grow_v of_o themselves_o but_o the_o best_a and_o most_o useful_a must_v be_v careful_o plant_v so_o sin_n and_o corruption_n spring_v natural_o out_o of_o the_o evil_a soil_n of_o our_o heart_n but_o grace_n and_o holiness_n be_v of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n his_o plantation_n again_o barren_a tree_n be_v cut_v down_o by_o the_o provident_a husbandman_n that_o they_o may_v not_o cumber_v the_o ground_n as_o you_o see_v in_o the_o gospel_n which_o shall_v move_v we_o by_o bear_v fruit_n unto_o god_n to_o work_v out_o our_o own_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a the_o leaf_n of_o a_o outward_a profession_n be_v not_o sufficient_a but_o to_o they_o must_v be_v join_v the_o fruit_n of_o a_o sanctify_a conversation_n the_o tree_n and_o every_o branch_n and_o twig_n thereof_o receive_v sap_n life_n nourishment_n from_o the_o root_n every_o true_a believer_n receive_v heavenly_a life_n and_o grace_n from_o christ_n jesus_n so_o long_o as_o the_o branch_n be_v join_v to_o the_o tree_n and_o so_o to_o the_o root_n it_o receive_v benefit_n and_o refreshment_n from_o the_o dew_n and_o rain_n but_o if_o it_o be_v cut_v off_o from_o the_o tree_n the_o sweet_a shower_n can_v preserve_v it_o from_o be_v wither_v he_o that_o be_v true_o unite_v to_o christ_n as_o a_o branch_n to_o the_o root_n by_o the_o spirit_n and_o faith_n he_o receive_v benefit_n growth_n and_o spiritual_a refreshment_n from_o the_o outward_a mean_n of_o grace_n the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n but_o if_o he_o be_v not_o true_o unite_v to_o he_o the_o sweet_a dew_n that_o ever_o fall_v from_o heaven_n can_v keep_v spiritual_a life_n within_o he_o on_o the_o other_o side_n though_o the_o branch_n do_v receive_v life_n and_o nourishment_n from_o the_o root_n yet_o it_o want_v refreshment_n from_o the_o shower_n of_o heaven_n so_o those_o fanatical_a dreamer_n be_v to_o be_v condemn_v who_o pretend_v a_o union_n with_o christ_n and_o partake_v of_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o brag_v they_o have_v no_o need_n of_o the_o word_n preach_v or_o any_o outward_a mean_n again_o let_v the_o renew_n of_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n by_o these_o creature_n every_o spring_n put_v thou_o in_o mind_n of_o the_o wonderful_a efficacy_n of_o god_n his_o word_n which_o from_o the_o beginning_n unto_o this_o present_a time_n have_v make_v the_o earth_n thus_o fruitful_a and_o let_v it_o teach_v thou_o to_o rely_v upon_o his_o truth_n and_o promise_n in_o other_o thing_n as_o well_o as_o this_o chap._n vi_o meditation_n on_o the_o four_o day_n work_n sect_n 1._o from_o the_o third_z i_o come_v to_o the_o four_o day_n which_o we_o usual_o call_v wednesday_n which_o be_v the_o first_o day_n that_o have_v a_o sun_n to_o give_v it_o light_n to_o which_o be_v add_v the_o moon_n to_o rule_v the_o nâ—ghâ—_n and_o the_o star_n to_o attend_v she_o which_o glorious_a work_n of_o a_o most_o glorious_a god_n shall_v raise_v our_o thought_n to_o some_o holy_a meditation_n 1._o now_o consider_v on_o this_o day_n how_o that_o as_o the_o water_n which_o be_v before_o disperse_v all_o abroad_o upon_o and_o about_o the_o earth_n be_v on_o the_o three_o day_n gather_v into_o one_o store-house_n call_v sea_n so_o the_o light_n which_o be_v before_o diffuse_v through_o the_o huge_a space_n of_o the_o creation_n be_v now_o as_o it_o be_v draw_v together_o into_o one_o body_n of_o the_o sun_n as_o a_o full_a and_o common_a treasury_n consider_v here_o that_o the_o lord_n who_o be_v in_o himself_o infinite_o more_o bright_a than_o the_o light_n itself_o need_v no_o light_n in_o respect_n of_o himself_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v for_o we_o that_o he_o make_v the_o light_n and_o we_o shall_v bless_v he_o for_o it_o so_o in_o regard_n of_o himself_o he_o need_v no_o word_n nor_o revelation_n of_o heavenly_a mystery_n be_v infinite_a in_o all_o knowledge_n and_o wisdom_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v for_o we_o that_o he_o give_v his_o word_n to_o be_v a_o light_n and_o cause_v by_o his_o spirit_n the_o bright_a beam_n of_o holy_a truth_n to_o be_v cast_v abroad_o into_o the_o dark_a world_n therefore_o we_o may_v conceive_v how_o shameful_a our_o sin_n and_o unthankfulness_n be_v that_o we_o must_v be_v entreat_v to_o turn_v our_o eye_n towards_o this_o light_n and_o to_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n whereas_o if_o need_n be_v we_o shall_v beg_v a_o place_n from_o heaven_n to_o heaven_n for_o when_o it_o be_v on_o the_o other_o side_n of_o the_o earth_n it_o shine_v on_o the_o moon_n on_o this_o side_n the_o earth_n and_o cause_v it_o to_o shine_v yea_o it_o shine_v upon_o every_o tree_n upon_o every_o little_a grass_n and_o do_v as_o it_o be_v in_o its_o kind_n look_v upon_o the_o small_a thing_n be_v it_o then_o to_o be_v doubt_v that_o god_n who_o can_v make_v a_o thousand_o sun_n as_o excellent_a as_o this_o with_o a_o word_n shall_v be_v in_o all_o place_n at_o once_o and_o see_v all_o thing_n at_o one_o view_n even_o reason_n may_v teach_v we_o that_o it_o be_v more_o strange_a that_o the_o sun_n be_v a_o creature_n shall_v shine_v so_o far_o and_o on_o so_o many_o creature_n at_o once_o than_o that_o the_o infinite_a god_n shall_v be_v thus_o every_o where_o present_a and_o see_v all_o thing_n yea_o thou_o may_v assure_v thyself_o that_o as_o the_o sun_n be_v not_o pollute_v with_o the_o loathsome_a puddle_n and_o dunghill_n on_o which_o it_o shine_v so_o neither_o be_v the_o lord_n by_o fill_v all_o place_n even_o there_o where_o be_v the_o great_a pollution_n he_o be_v no_o far_o from_o happiness_n in_o hell_n than_o in_o heaven_n for_o himself_o be_v hiâ—_n perfection_n and_o excellency_n from_o who_o no_o degree_n of_o happiness_n can_v be_v take_v 8._o consider_v also_o the_o swiftness_n of_o the_o sun_n which_o be_v beyond_o the_o thought_n of_o man_n wonderful_a be_v the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o this_o regard_n if_o we_o consider_v what_o a_o huge_a compass_n the_o earth_n have_v and_o then_o how_o the_o heaven_n be_v above_o the_o earth_n so_o that_o the_o sun_n in_o twenty_o four_o hour_n do_v not_o only_o go_v round_o about_o the_o earth_n but_o also_o round_a that_o huge_a compass_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n i_o can_v conceive_v but_o that_o it_o must_v needs_o go_v many_o hundred_o thousand_o mile_n in_o one_o hour_n now_o be_v it_o not_o easy_o for_o god_n to_o be_v every_o where_o at_o once_o â—han_o for_o the_o sun_n to_o make_v such_o a_o speedy_a course_n yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o time_n of_o thy_o life_n go_v as_o fast_o as_o the_o sun_n itself_o for_o it_o carry_v about_o thy_o time_n thy_o day_n thy_o year_n thy_o age_n with_o it_o oh_o consider_v every_o time_n thou_o see_v the_o sun_n in_o his_o race_n my_o life_n run_v along_o and_o keep_v pace_n with_o this_o sun_n a_o thousand_o time_n fast_o than_o any_o eagle_n can_v fly_v in_o the_o air_n i_o sit_v still_o but_o my_o life_n run_v post_n i_o be_o idle_a but_o my_o time_n be_v every_o moment_n in_o a_o speedy_a course_n nay_o i_o go_v backward_o when_o my_o time_n run_v forward_o woe_n be_v i_o that_o i_o grow_v less_o careful_a in_o hasten_v on_o in_o my_o journey_n that_o i_o linger_v that_o i_o go_v out_o of_o the_o way_n when_o my_o day_n be_v carry_v away_o upon_o the_o wing_n of_o the_o sun_n oh_o call_v to_o god_n for_o quicken_a grace_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n may_v lift_v thou_o up_o and_o carry_v thou_o on_o in_o a_o far_o more_o speedy_a course_n of_o holy_a obedience_n when_o thou_o thyself_o lack_v mean_n to_o pass_v away_o the_o time_n or_o hear_v other_o complain_v in_o this_o regard_n look_v up_o to_o the_o sun_n and_o think_v with_o they_o self_n do_v not_o the_o sun_n go_v fast_o enough_o sure_o time_n go_v along_o with_o it_o and_o never_o lag_v one_o inch_n behind_o it_o be_v it_o not_o a_o madness_n then_o to_o call_v for_o more_o help_n to_o drive_v it_o forward_o be_v there_o not_o much_o more_o cause_n to_o labour_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o make_v haste_n after_o our_o time_n which_o we_o have_v already_o lose_v which_o have_v long_o since_o outrun_v we_o let_v we_o take_v time_n to_o bewail_v our_o loss_n of_o time_n and_o be_v ashamed_a any_o more_o to_o complain_v of_o it_o as_o if_o it_o be_v too_o slow-paced_a 9_o consider_v that_o as_o the_o sun_n be_v not_o the_o author_n nor_o cause_n of_o darkness_n when_o he_o take_v away_o his_o beam_n from_o we_o but_o the_o darkness_n follow_v upon_o his_o removal_n so_o god_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n or_o blindness_n when_o he_o most_o just_o deny_v his_o light_n and_o grace_n to_o the_o unworthy_a son_n of_o adam_n but_o that_o sin_n follow_v thereupon_o glorify_v his_o perfect_a purity_n and_o do_v not_o conceive_v one_o thought_n against_o he_o so_o as_o to_o enwrap_v he_o with_o thyself_o in_o guiltiness_n but_o say_v with_o the_o psalmist_n the_o lord_n be_v righteous_a in_o all_o his_o way_n and_o holy_a in_o all_o his_o work_n thus_o much_o for_o the_o sun_n sect_n 3._o now_o follow_v the_o moon_n and_o star_n the_o moon_n which_o be_v appoint_v to_o rule_v the_o night_n be_v a_o creature_n where_o we_o may_v behold_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n though_o more_o dim_o shine_v than_o in_o the_o sun_n 1._o here_o see_v god_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n in_o mitigate_a the_o darkness_n of_o the_o night_n that_o when_o the_o sun_n be_v out_o of_o sight_n yet_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o moon_n to_o give_v we_o some_o though_o not_o so_o great_a a_o light_n and_o if_o both_o be_v sometime_o absent_a yet_o than_o we_o have_v the_o star_n to_o make_v some_o abatement_n of_o utter_a darkness_n how_o wonderful_a be_v the_o lord_n in_o his_o work_n who_o be_v please_v not_o only_o to_o give_v we_o so_o great_a a_o light_n by_o day_n but_o also_o to_o set_v up_o candle_n for_o we_o in_o the_o heaven_n in_o the_o night_n time_n even_o so_o shall_v we_o think_v also_o how_o the_o lord_n deal_v with_o his_o servant_n if_o he_o take_v away_o the_o sunshine_n of_o comfort_n from_o they_o even_o fullness_n of_o joy_n yet_o even_o then_o he_o leave_v some_o moonlight_n or_o starlight_n at_o the_o least_o some_o glimmering_n whereby_o they_o conceive_v some_o hope_n and_o be_v though_o not_o much_o cheer_v yet_o support_v be_v thankful_a for_o the_o least_o degree_n and_o wait_v patient_o for_o a_o great_a measure_n seek_v to_o he_o stand_v not_o in_o thy_o own_o light_n let_v not_o thy_o soul_n refuse_v comfort_n or_o if_o there_o be_v no_o moon_n or_o star_n to_o be_v see_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o cloud_n yet_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o in_o the_o dark_a night_n there_o be_v some_o little_a degree_n of_o light_n though_o not_o scarce_o to_o be_v discern_v by_o we_o yet_o i_o do_v not_o think_v it_o be_v ever_o so_o dark_a as_o in_o those_o three_o night_n before_o the_o sun_n be_v make_v so_o in_o the_o great_a decay_n of_o grace_n the_o great_a darkness_n of_o spiritual_a desertion_n when_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o degree_n of_o spiritual_a life_n grace_n or_o comfort_n to_o be_v discern_v yet_o in_o every_o true_a christian_a who_o once_o be_v make_v a_o new_a creature_n there_o be_v some_o degree_n and_o it_o be_v not_o with_o he_o as_o it_o be_v before_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n be_v rise_v upon_o he_o there_o be_v not_o that_o utter_a darkness_n that_o be_v upon_o his_o soul_n while_o it_o be_v in_o that_o more_o confuse_a chaos_n and_o heap_n of_o unregeneration_n 2._o the_o moon_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v as_o the_o church_n in_o respect_n of_o christ_n the_o moon_n borrow_v her_o lâ—ght_n of_o the_o sun_n so_o do_v the_o church_n her_o grace_n righteousness_n and_o all_o her_o happiness_n of_o christ_n the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n what_o a_o poor_a creature_n be_v the_o moon_n how_o dark_a be_v it_o when_o the_o earth_n come_v between_o the_o sun_n and_o she_o how_o empty_a will_v the_o church_n be_v of_o all_o light_n grace_n comfort_n if_o christ_n shall_v be_v hide_v from_o she_o when_o the_o moon_n be_v most_o enlighten_v by_o the_o sun_n yet_o there_o be_v some_o dark_a spot_n to_o be_v discern_v in_o she_o so_o when_o the_o church_n be_v most_o replenish_v with_o the_o beam_n of_o this_o sun_n of_o
and_o breath_n and_o that_o upright_a posture_n of_o his_o body_n be_v a_o fit_a resemblance_n of_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n that_o make_v it_o 2._o now_o without_o the_o body_n there_o be_v these_o two_o thing_n 1._o the_o sweet_a and_o happy_a habitation_n which_o adam_n have_v in_o the_o garden_n of_o eden_n such_o as_o now_o no_o place_n with_o the_o great_a cost_n and_o art_n in_o the_o world_n can_v possible_o afford_v hereby_o resemble_v god_n who_o have_v the_o glorious_a heaven_n for_o his_o dwell_a place_n wherein_o he_o do_v especial_o manifest_v his_o divine_a and_o glorious_a presence_n 2._o his_o dominion_n over_o the_o earth_n ayr_n and_o water_n with_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o they_o whereby_o as_o a_o under-officer_n or_o deputy_n he_o do_v represent_v the_o person_n of_o god_n who_o be_v the_o supreme_a lord_n of_o all_o chap._n ix_o use_v 1_o learn_v here_o then_o to_o admire_v this_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n and_o to_o magnify_v he_o for_o that_o admirable_a perfection_n which_o he_o give_v to_o man_n within_z him_z and_o without_o he_o in_o soul_n body_n habitation_n and_o dignity_n have_v make_v he_o a_o little_a low_o than_o the_o angel_n and_o crown_v he_o with_o glory_n and_o honour_n what_o a_o excellent_a creature_n be_v man_n when_o he_o come_v new_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n until_o satan_n â—â—rred_v he_o with_o his_o foul_a hand_n a_o body_n without_o any_o blemish_n a_o soul_n without_o the_o least_o defect_n without_o all_o impurity_n a_o understanding_n and_o wit_n without_o all_o dimness_n or_o dulness_n a_o judgement_n without_o error_n a_o memory_n free_a from_o leak_n oâ—_n fail_v a_o heart_n without_o the_o least_o distemper_n always_o carry_v even_o not_o sway_v or_o stir_v out_o of_o place_n on_o the_o one_o side_n oâ—_n the_o other_o 2._o learn_v here_o not_o to_o think_v god_n the_o author_n of_o any_o sinful_a disposition_n in_o thou_o remember_v how_o he_o make_v thou_o and_o condemn_v thyself_o justify_v his_o purity_n and_o holiness_n by_o who_o thou_o be_v make_v upright_a 3._o learn_v to_o lament_v thy_o own_o misery_n who_o be_v so_o far_o from_o that_o perfection_n which_o god_n give_v to_o man_n at_o the_o first_o look_v upon_o thy_o defect_n every_o way_n within_z and_o without_o and_o see_v the_o fruit_n of_o sin_n in_o thyself_o and_o give_v no_o rest_n to_o thyself_o till_o thou_o see_v thyself_o new-made_a again_o until_o thou_o be_v become_v a_o new_a creature_n and_o have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n restore_v unto_o thou_o so_o far_o as_o we_o come_v short_a of_o adam_n perfection_n so_o far_o we_o come_v short_a of_o that_o which_o we_o shall_v be_v of_o that_o which_o we_o must_v continual_o seek_v for_o but_o you_o will_v say_v all_o in_o the_o world_n come_v short_a of_o adam_n perfection_n true_a and_o therefore_o all_o must_v strive_v to_o grow_v in_o grace_n more_o and_o more_o and_o none_o must_v condemn_v another_o that_o go_v beyond_o himself_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n in_o this_o case_n for_o some_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o their_o fail_n at_o least_o not_o so_o as_o to_o be_v careful_a to_o reform_v they_o but_o rather_o dislike_v those_o that_o give_v they_o the_o best_a example_n and_o keep_v themselves_o most_o close_o to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o word_n these_o have_v not_o the_o image_n of_o god_n at_o all_o restore_v to_o they_o they_o have_v no_o part_n of_o that_o spiritual_a life_n which_o adam_n have_v but_o other_o there_o be_v who_o the_o lord_n have_v new-molded_n and_o once_o again_o by_o his_o spirit_n have_v breathe_v into_o they_o the_o breath_n of_o spiritual_a life_n who_o see_v themselves_o to_o come_v short_a of_o that_o perfection_n which_o adam_n have_v and_o mourn_v and_o strive_v and_o pray_v and_o use_v all_o holy_a mean_n and_o help_v to_o this_o purpose_n who_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v show_v wherein_o they_o come_v short_a of_o this_o image_n of_o god_n in_o adam_n wherein_o they_o be_v unlike_a unto_o it_o willing_a to_o be_v reprove_v by_o the_o word_n these_o have_v some_o degree_n of_o his_o image_n renew_v in_o they_o and_o these_o strive_v after_o far_a perfection_n but_o now_o compare_v thyself_o with_o this_o image_n of_o god_n in_o adam_n before_o his_o fall_n and_o see_v what_o thou_o have_v to_o do_v how_o much_o be_v amiss_o in_o thou_o and_o must_v be_v amend_v when_o a_o man_n have_v lose_v a_o great_a estate_n and_o by_o some_o mean_n begin_v to_o recover_v again_o he_o will_v scarce_o think_v he_o have_v enough_o until_o he_o have_v get_v as_o much_o as_o he_o have_v before_o he_o will_v fain_o be_v as_o rich_a as_o ever_o he_o be_v man_n be_v too_o greedy_a of_o these_o thing_n but_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v so_o say_v i_o covet_v you_o the_o best_a thing_n thou_o be_v rich_a in_o adam_n our_o first_o parent_n have_v abundance_n of_o riches_n to_o leave_v we_o but_o he_o commit_v treason_n and_o so_o all_o be_v forfeit_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o we_o shall_v never_o think_v ourselves_o well_o until_o we_o have_v recover_v the_o same_o degree_n of_o excellency_n which_o we_o lose_v thou_o that_o think_v thou_o know_v enough_o consider_v how_o far_o thou_o come_v short_a of_o adam_n who_o know_v the_o lord_n perfect_o but_o thou_o be_v ignorant_a of_o many_o thing_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o those_o thing_n which_o thou_o do_v know_v thou_o know_v it_o very_o imperfect_o how_o far_o be_v thou_o from_o that_o full_a purpose_n of_o heart_n in_o obey_v god_n and_o cleave_v to_o he_o that_o be_v in_o adam_n how_o far_o from_o that_o uprightness_n that_o perfection_n of_o holiness_n those_o heavenly_a affection_n that_o strong_a love_n to_o
