who_o he_o write_v have_v as_o well_o be_v gather_v without_o mean_n as_o that_o he_o admonish_v they_o to_o abide_v in_o that_o holy_a unction_n as_o sufficient_a to_o their_o instruction_n and_o comfort_n therefore_o let_v he_o go_v ask_v the_o apostle_n john_n why_o man_n be_v to_o attend_v upon_o the_o holy_a anoint_v as_o sufficient_a not_o withstand_v thosâ—_n mean_v then_o provide_v and_o the_o answer_n to_o that_o question_n will_v be_v we_o but_o here_o be_v the_o darkness_n of_o the_o man_n from_o our_o deny_v of_o empty_a vnauthorized_a imitation_n he_o infer_v our_o denial_n knowledge_n and_o comfort_n he_o ignorant_o conclude_v that_o man_n where_o they_o be_v ought_v not_o to_o have_v mean_v use_v to_o bring_v they_o to_o this_o bless_a state_n but_o that_o god_n shall_v immediate_o teach_v they_o there_o 4._o i_o charge_v he_o with_o another_o lie_n in_o say_v that_o we_o appoint_v minister_n before_o hand_n to_o speak_v in_o such_o a_o a_o place_n at_o such_o a_o time_n ibid._n and_o much_o less_o that_o the_o end_n of_o our_o meeting_n be_v to_o decoy_n trapan_n and_o inveigle_v other_o as_o he_o scoff_o and_o false_o insinuate_v we_o deny_v the_o suggestion_n and_o renounce_v and_o judge_v such_o practice_n by_o that_o pure_a spirit_n that_o have_v otherwise_o teach_v we_o god_n preserve_v we_o from_o that_o dry_a hireling_n custom_n and_o practice_n of_o tho._n hicks_n who_o will_v avenge_v our_o cause_n upon_o the_o head_n of_o this_o ungodly_a slanderer_n but_o he_o think_v he_o have_v utter_o foil_v we_o in_o his_o representation_n indeed_o perversion_n of_o our_o belief_n about_o the_o seed_n which_o though_o speak_v to_o some_o distance_n before_o yet_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o say_v something_o to_o it_o lest_o it_o be_v take_v for_o grant_v and_o his_o scurvy_a name_n account_v due_a title_n to_o such_o miserable_a wretch_n as_o he_o endeavour_v to_o render_v we_o the_o objection_n entire_o be_v this_o you_o say_v that_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n be_v to_o point_v people_n to_o
brother_n will_v you_o pray_v no_o brother_n i_o be_o not_o so_o well_o able_a as_o you_o be_v let_v brother_n such_o a_o one_o pray_v he_o be_v better_a gift_v for_o the_o work_n etc._n etc._n compliment_a shift_a and_o at_o last_o pray_v etc._n etc._n in_o their_o own_o will_n and_o not_o in_o god_n motion_n this_o god_n hate_v next_o since_o the_o pour_v forth_o of_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o great_a gospel_n gift_n and_o that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v to_o be_v lead_v by_o it_o in_o what_o shall_v we_o more_o diligent_o wait_v for_o its_o heavenly_a assistance_n then_o in_o that_o part_n of_o our_o duty_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o god_n be_v his_o worship_n spiritual_a and_o can_v we_o perform_v it_o out_o of_o the_o motion_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n for_o what_o then_o be_v his_o spirit_n give_v again_o if_o man_n shall_v pray_v in_o a_o know_a tongue_n much_o more_o with_o the_o spirit_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v no_o wonder_v the_o professor_n ask_v pardon_n for_o their_o prayer_n indeed_o god_n spirit_n give_v they_o to_o see_v the_o emptiness_n of_o their_o righteousness_n and_o condemn_v they_o for_o it_o wherefore_o they_o be_v at_o time_n dissatisfy_v in_o they_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o learn_v of_o he_o to_o be_v guide_v by_o he_o who_o will_v cover_v they_o with_o everlasting_a righteousness_n blessed_n will_v they_o be_v if_o of_o his_o glorious_a kingdom_n etc._n etc._n what_o grosser_n opposer_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n can_v there_o be_v who_o deny_v the_o very_a life_n virtue_n and_o soul_n of_o all_o true_a gospel-worship_n and_o discipline_n and_o without_o which_o the_o otherwise_o best_a christian-church_n that_o ever_o be_v will_v be_v worse_o than_o legal_a for_o they_o that_o worship_v not_o from_o the_o rule_n but_o suppose_v tho._n hicks_n in_o some_o one_o point_n believe_v the_o scripture_n not_o to_o intend_v the_o same_o thing_n the_o rest_n of_o the_o church_n understand_v it_o to_o mean_v as_o in_o case_n of_o freewill_n i_o query_n how_o this_o matter_n shall_v be_v reconcile_v they_o affirm_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n and_o say_v this_o be_v the_o true_a sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n thomas_n hicks_n also_o affirm_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n but_o that_o his_o sense_n be_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o scripture_n this_o occur_v almost_o daily_o among_o those_o who_o believe_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o faith_n now_o observe_v the_o parallel_n the_o quaker_n by_o the_o light_n within_o they_o as_o their_o rule_n judge_v that_o rude_a imagination_n of_o keep_v the_o hat_n on_o in_o time_n of_o public_a prayer_n the_o anabaptist_n by_o the_o scripture_n as_o their_o rule_n censure_n thomas_n hicks_n for_o uphold_v a_o contrary_a sense_n to_o the_o scripture_n the_o dissenter_n from_o the_o quaker_n say_v the_o light_n which_o he_o call_v his_o rule_n manifest_v no_o such_o thing_n to_o he_o nor_o do_v he_o interpretation_n but_o proceed_v to_o censure_v thomas_n hicks_n as_o a_o disturber_n of_o their_o church_n in_o its_o doctrine_n or_o discipline_n by_o the_o introduction_n of_o new_a and_o unprofitable_a opinion_n neither_o be_v the_o body_n of_o the_o quaker_n to_o question_v their_o judgement_n give_v by_o the_o light_n within_o as_o their_o rule_n to_o be_v a_o true_a and_o of_o the_o darkness_n that_o have_v cover_v the_o earth_n the_o superstition_n idolatry_n humane_a invention_n will-worship_n violence_n cruelty_n wantonness_n intemperance_n avarice_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o ungodliness_n all_o be_v require_v to_o harken_v to_o the_o lord_n voice_n to_o obey_v his_o call_n to_o let_v he_o in_o and_o bring_v their_o deed_n unto_o the_o light_n that_o christ_n give_v to_o believe_v aright_o now_o why_o true_o that_o which_o do_v then_o the_o light_n and_o spirit_n of_o truth_n no_o man_n can_v call_v jesus_n lord_n without_o it_o that_o be_v true_o so_o or_o upon_o good_a ground_n no_o man_n can_v confess_v that_o christ_n be_v come_v in_o the_o flesh_n but_o who_o spirit_n be_v of_o god_n yet_o now_o nothing_o be_v more_o common_a &_o yet_o can_v a_o man_n be_v own_o good_a work_n so_o remit_v cancel_v or_o justify_v but_o his_o sleight_n will_v not_o do_v i_o have_v often_o declare_v that_o upon_o repentance_n god_n do_v not_o impute_v past_o iniquity_n to_o any_o therefore_o that_o part_n of_o his_o answer_n which_o seem_v most_o smart_a upon_o i_o that_o be_v can_v one_o be_v forgive_v that_o be_v not_o guilty_a etc._n etc._n remit_v then_o by_o the_o free_a love_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o first_o part_n of_o justification_n as_o david_n speak_v bless_a be_v the_o man_n unto_o who_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o impute_v sin_n but_o whether_o man_n be_v daily_o accept_v as_o child_n of_o god_n redeem_v and_o save_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o justify_v as_o such_o in_o his_o presence_n further_o than_o as_o they_o come_v though_o such_o ungodly_a person_n partake_v not_o of_o his_o holy_a life_n and_o power_n neither_o be_v subject_a unto_o his_o government_n 6._o from_o our_o affirm_v god_n promise_n make_v good_a
