of_o the_o conscience_n for_o if_o we_o look_v upon_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n what_o force_n have_v the_o blood_n of_o beast_n offer_v in_o the_o sanctuary_n that_o thereby_o it_o shall_v truth_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n and_o discipline_n have_v our_o heart_n sprinkle_v from_o a_o evil_a conscience_n he_n allude_v to_o a_o ceremony_n ordain_v under_o the_o law_n whereby_o they_o who_o have_v touch_v any_o unclean_a thing_n must_v be_v sprinkle_v with_o the_o holy_a water_n of_o separation_n before_o they_o may_v enter_v into_o the_o assembly_n of_o god_n people_n at_o the_o sanctuary_n to_o perform_v the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o if_o they_o do_v otherwise_o they_o must_v die_v for_o it_o this_o purge_n or_o cleanse_v of_o the_o flesh_n by_o sprinkle_v the_o say_v before_o that_o our_o conscience_n be_v purge_v from_o dead_a work_n or_o to_o signify_v the_o cleanse_n of_o our_o soul_n from_o inward_a and_o secret_a sin_n for_o by_o a_o evil_a conscience_n in_o this_o place_n by_o a_o metony_a my_o of_o the_o effect_n he_o seem_v to_o understand_v the_o hide_a and_o secret_a vice_n of_o the_o soul_n as_o oppose_v to_o the_o filth_n of_o the_o body_n which_o as_o in_o the_o word_n immediate_o subsequent_a he_o teach_v must_v be_v wash_v away_o for_o what_o else_o can_v the_o filth_n of_o the_o body_n signify_v than_o those_o outward_a sin_n which_o be_v commit_v by_o the_o body_n itself_o not_o as_o if_o these_o do_v not_o also_o defile_v the_o conscience_n but_o because_o open_a sin_n be_v expose_v to_o the_o eye_n and_o censure_n of_o other_o man_n but_o the_o secret_a and_o inward_a sin_n of_o the_o soul_n though_o they_o make_v no_o man_n else_o conscious_a to_o they_o yet_o they_o agitate_v and_o burden_v the_o conscience_n therefore_o by_o the_o former_a sense_n of_o these_o word_n be_v signify_v the_o great_a benefit_n of_o god_n which_o we_o attain_v by_o the_o blood_n and_o sacrifice_n of_o christ_n and_o by_o the_o latter_a be_v intimate_v our_o duty_n whereto_o we_o be_v excite_v and_o oblige_v by_o so_o great_a a_o benefit_n and_o our_o body_n wash_v we_o have_v already_o say_v that_o this_o wash_n of_o the_o body_n must_v be_v refer_v to_o the_o wash_n away_o of_o that_o filth_n whereby_o our_o body_n stand_v defile_v before_o god_n therefore_o if_o we_o receive_v the_o last_o sense_n of_o the_o former_a word_n than_o the_o author_n here_o put_v we_o in_o mind_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n whereof_o paul_n remember_v we_o 2_o cor._n 7.1_o have_v therefore_o these_o promise_n dear_o belove_v let_v we_o cleanse_v ourselves_o from_o all_o filthiness_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n perfect_a holiness_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o the_o author_n show_v that_o it_o be_v a_o most_o fit_a and_o convenient_a thing_n to_o wash_v the_o body_n in_o this_o sense_n because_o ancient_o under_o the_o law_n they_o who_o approach_v to_o the_o sanctuary_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o god_n worship_n must_v wash_v their_o body_n all_o the_o difference_n be_v that_o there_o man_n understand_v the_o carnal_a stain_n of_o sin_n but_o here_o the_o spiritual_a with_o pure_a water_n there_o be_v no_o necessity_n we_o shall_v by_o this_o allegory_n think_v any_o thing_n answer_v by_o name_n to_o this_o water_n see_v the_o author_n seem_v to_o speak_v in_o allusion_n to_o the_o custom_n use_v under_o the_o law_n of_o wash_v the_o body_n with_o pure_a water_n for_o comparison_n as_o we_o have_v often_o intimate_v be_v subject_a to_o many_o abusion_n yet_o if_o any_o man_n desire_v a_o full_a resemblance_n we_o may_v say_v that_o hereby_o be_v mean_v the_o spirit_n and_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n or_o that_o spiritual_a water_n wherewith_o christ_n sprinkle_v his_o people_n not_o
