the_o evil_n of_o temptation_n and_o corruption_n and_o as_o god_n keep_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o the_o evil_n of_o temptation_n and_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o corruption_n so_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o affliction_n i_o must_v confess_v he_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o so_o that_o they_o be_v utter_o exempt_a from_o all_o affliction_n they_o have_v their_o share_n and_o portion_n of_o it_o many_o time_n as_o well_o as_o any_o other_o man_n many_o be_v the_o affliction_n of_o the_o righteous_a say_v the_o psalmist_n psal_n 34.19_o not_o of_o the_o wicked_a only_o but_o the_o righteous_a too_o yea_o their_o affliction_n oftentimes_o be_v more_o and_o great_a than_o the_o affliction_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v the_o prophet_n david_n be_v too_o sensible_a of_o this_o so_o that_o his_o spirit_n fret_v at_o it_o and_o he_o be_v envious_a at_o the_o foolish_a as_o himself_o confess_v psal_n 73.3_o when_o he_o see_v the_o prosperity_n of_o wicked_a man_n their_o strength_n be_v firm_a say_v he_o there_o be_v no_o band_n in_o their_o death_n they_o be_v not_o in_o trouble_n like_o other_o man_n nor_o be_v they_o plague_v like_o other_o man_n no_o nor_o like_o better_a man_n their_o eye_n stand_v out_o with_o fatness_n they_o have_v more_o than_o heart_n can_v wish_v these_o be_v the_o wicked_a say_v the_o psalmist_n they_o prosper_v in_o the_o world_n but_o how_o fare_v it_o with_o david_n all_o this_o while_n why_o very_o say_v he_o i_o have_v cleanse_v my_o heart_n in_o vain_a and_o wash_v my_o band_n in_o innocency_n for_o that_o send_v they_o and_o see_v what_o power_n he_o be_v endue_v withal_o what_o errand_n he_o be_v send_v on_o and_o for_o what_o end_n and_o so_o act_v according_o as_o god_n invest_v he_o with_o to_o have_v this_o continual_o in_o their_o eye_n how_o they_o may_v reach_v this_o great_a end_n they_o must_v remember_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v send_v they_o as_o god_n the_o father_n send_v he_o and_o that_o be_v not_o to_o condemn_v the_o world_n but_o that_o the_o world_n by_o he_o may_v be_v save_v and_o thus_o of_o the_o first_o argument_n with_o which_o our_o saviour_n press_v and_o enforce_v his_o petition_n to_o his_o father_n in_o behalf_n of_o his_o apostle_n for_o sanctification_n which_o have_v be_v take_v from_o the_o business_n and_o employment_n that_o he_o be_v set_v they_o about_o viz_o the_o very_a same_o in_o some_o respect_n which_o he_o himself_o have_v hitherto_o sustain_v and_o undergo_v by_o the_o appointment_n of_o the_o father_n sanctify_v they_o with_o thy_o truth_n thy_o word_n be_v truth_n why_o may_v the_o father_n answer_n why_o so_o cause_n enough_o say_v jesus_n christ_n for_o as_o thou_o have_v send_v i_o into_o the_o world_n even_o so_o truth_n the_o difficulty_n of_o the_o text_n lie_v especial_o in_o this_o how_o christ_n be_v say_v to_o sanctify_v himself_o and_o what_o he_o mean_v by_o that_o expression_n for_o their_o sake_n i_o sanctify_v myself_o to_o sanctify_v be_v proper_o to_o make_v holy_a now_o a_o person_n or_o a_o thing_n be_v make_v holy_a especial_o two_o way_n viz._n by_o qualification_n when_o holiness_n and_o such_o ground_n and_o reason_n as_o his_o spirit_n natural_o be_v not_o likely_a to_o suggest_v because_o they_o do_v not_o any_o way_n concern_v he_o as_o a_o natural_a man_n as_o when_o upon_o the_o apprehension_n of_o some_o great_a dishonour_n that_o will_v come_v to_o god_n if_o such_o a_o thing_n shall_v be_v deny_v a_o man_n be_v much_o enlarge_v and_o quicken_v in_o his_o prayer_n yea_o when_o his_o prayer_n be_v against_o his_o natural_a desire_n when_o he_o be_v earnest_a with_o the_o lord_n in_o secret_a to_o help_v he_o to_o pluck_v out_o a_o right_a eye_n or_o to_o cut_v off_o a_o right_a hand_n to_o mortify_v and_o curse_v and_o kill_v those_o lust_n and_o those_o corruption_n which_o natural_o be_v extreme_o dear_a to_o he_o and_o that_o upon_o such_o ground_n and_o motive_n wherein_o there_o be_v no_o self_n respect_n when_o he_o shall_v serious_o and_o sincere_o beg_v the_o lord_n to_o give_v but_o a_o little_a wealth_n a_o little_a honour_n if_o he_o perceive_v that_o more_o will_v do_v he_o spiritual_a hurt_n that_o it_o will_v puff_n he_o up_o and_o make_v he_o proud_a as_o agur_n do_v give_v i_o not_o riches_n feed_v i_o with_o food_n spiritual_a blessing_n in_o heavenly_a place_n in_o christ_n jesus_n as_o the_o apostle_n call_v they_o ephes_n 1.3_o be_v it_o a_o likely_a thing_n my_o brethren_n that_o the_o spirit_n shall_v make_v we_o struggle_v more_o for_o bodily_a and_o outward_a thing_n then_o for_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v more_o agreeable_a and_o suitable_a to_o it_o more_o near_o to_o its_o own_o nature_n i_o make_v no_o question_n david_n act_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o that_o petition_n and_o request_n of_o he_o psal_n 4.6_o there_o be_v many_o that_o will_v say_v who_o will_v show_v we_o any_o good_a and_o wine_n increase_v if_o we_o act_v by_o christs-spirit_n we_o pray_v for_o temporal_a and_o worldly_a thing_n in_o reference_n to_o spiritual_a end_n they_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o they_o that_o be_v devoid_a of_o it_o do_v both_o pray_v for_o earthly_a blessing_n for_o there_o be_v promise_n of_o these_o as_o well_o as_o of_o the_o other_o but_o now_o the_o difference_n lie_v in_o this_o both_o aim_v not_o at_o the_o same_o end_n he_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n desire_v these_o outward_n blessing_n moderate_o with_o submission_n that_o he_o may_v serve_v god_n with_o they_o that_o he_o may_v promote_v his_o end_n that_o he_o may_v be_v the_o able_a instrument_n to_o help_v his_o church_n to_o support_v his_o people_n to_o advance_v his_o glory_n to_o appear_v for_o his_o cause_n even_o these_o desire_n of_o his_o be_v spiritual_a although_o not_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o at_o least_o for_o the_o end_n of_o they_o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o that_o have_v not_o christ_n spirit_n desire_v these_o outward_a blessing_n that_o he_o may_v consume_v they_o on_o his_o lust_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v jam._n 4.3_o you_o ask_v and_o receive_v not_o because_o you_o ask_v amiss_o that_o you_o may_v consume_v it_o upon_o your_o lust_n that_o you_o may_v make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n with_o it_o and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v oil_n to_o nourish_v and_o to_o feed_v the_o sinful_a flame_n that_o be_v within_o you_o and_o thus_o it_o be_v my_o brethren_n with_o a_o multitude_n of_o man_n they_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o some_o thing_n to_o bestow_v upon_o their_o sensual_a appetite_n to_o serve_v their_o carnal_a turn_n to_o satisfy_v their_o brutish_a and_o voluptuous_a pleasure_n and_o desire_n they_o will_v be_v in_o place_n and_o power_n that_o they_o may_v raise_v their_o name_n and_o family_n that_o they_o may_v swell_v and_o swagger_v over_o their_o inferior_n that_o they_o may_v plague_v their_o enemy_n and_o pleasure_v those_o that_o be_v observant_a of_o they_o they_o will_v have_v wealth_n and_o riches_n in_o abundance_n that_o they_o may_v swimm_n in_o full_a delight_n and_o fare_v delicious_o every_o day_n agur_n measure_v the_o conveniency_n or_o inconveniency_n of_o his_o outward_a state_n as_o it_o will_v fit_v he_o more_o or_o less_o for_o god_n service_n not_o poverty_n lest_o i_o deny_v thou_o not_o riches_n leave_v i_o forget_v thou_o but_o these_o man_n measure_v it_o by_o nothing_o but_o their_o sensual_a appetite_n and_o so_o their_o prayer_n serve_v their_o lust_n and_o they_o will_v have_v god_n himself_o to_o serve_v they_o too_o if_o they_o can_v prevail_v with_o he_o and_o be_v such_o desire_n as_o these_o like_a to_o be_v raise_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n what_o will_v the_o spirit_n stir_v man_n up_o to_o pray_v for_o any_o thing_n to_o nourish_v and_o maintain_v the_o flesh_n the_o carnal_a part_n which_o be_v the_o spirit_n enemy_n the_o flesh_n lu_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n lu_v against_o the_o flesh_n for_o those_o two_o be_v contrary_a one_o to_o another_o and_o will_v the_o spirit_n notwithstanding_o strive_v for_o that_o which_o shall_v uphold_v and_o feed_v those_o lust_n against_o which_o the_o spirit_n lu_v believe_v it_o brethren_n they_o that_o pray_v for_o any_o blessing_n to_o maintain_v their_o lust_n with_o they_o their_o pride_n intemperance_n etc._n etc._n do_v not_o act_v by_o christ_n spirit_n object_n but_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o then_o how_o own_v one_o another_o under_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o father_n and_o a_o son_n sometime_o the_o father_n own_v our_o saviour_n for_o his_o son_n and_o this_o he_o do_v by_o a_o immediate_a attestation_n out_o of_o heaven_n itself_o mat._n 3.17_o lo_o a_o voice_n from_o heaven_n say_v this_o be_v my_o belove_a son_n me_n think_v he_o seem_v to_o point_v he_o out_o to_o special_a observation_n this_o be_v he_o sometime_o our_o saviour_n on_o the_o other_o side_n acknowledge_v and_o own_v the_o father_n and_o this_o be_v very_o usual_a upon_o all_o occasion_n but_o how_o be_v god_n the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n christ_n or_o in_o what_o sense_n do_v he_o call_v he_o father_n here_o no_o otherwise_o then_o we_o do_v this_o will_v need_v a_o little_a open_n to_o clear_v it_o to_o you_o in_o a_o word_n or_o two_o you_o must_v consider_v that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v two_o sort_n of_o son_n either_o he_o have_v son_n make_v or_o else_o he_o have_v son_n beget_v he_o have_v son_n make_v and_o that_o both_o by_o creation_n and_o adoption_n first_o he_o be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o father_n by_o creation_n and_o thus_o he_o have_v a_o kind_n of_o universal_a fatherhood_n to_o all_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n style_v he_o the_o father_n of_o all_o eph._n 4.6_o he_o be_v in_o this_o regard_n the_o father_n of_o our_o body_n and_o the_o father_n of_o our_o spirit_n the_o father_n of_o our_o body_n mediate_o and_o virtual_o create_v in_o the_o loin_n of_o adam_n the_o father_n of_o our_o spirit_n immediate_o and_o actual_o son_n make_v by_o creation_n so_o he_o have_v son_n make_v by_o adoption_n by_o which_o a_o remnant_n of_o mankind_n be_v set_v apart_o out_o of_o the_o free_a and_o undeserved_a grace_n of_o god_n for_o one_o i_o mean_v above_o the_o rest_n though_o not_o for_o one_o among_o the_o rest_n so_o that_o he_o have_v his_o privilege_n in_o this_o regard_n as_o the_o apostle_n intimate_v eph._n 1.5_o god_n have_v predestinate_v we_o to_o the_o adoption_n of_o child_n by_o jesus_n christ_n perhaps_o the_o meaning_n may_v be_v this_o first_o he_o have_v adopt_v christ_n as_o man_n and_o as_o a_o creature_n and_o then_o he_o have_v adopt_v we_o by_o he_o as_o part_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o as_o member_n of_o his_o body_n and_o as_o this_o father_n have_v his_o son_n make_v both_o by_o creation_n and_o adoption_n so_o he_o have_v his_o son_n beget_v and_o his_o son_n bear_v for_o both_o of_o these_o expression_n we_o shall_v find_v in_o scripture_n he_o have_v beget_v we_o say_v and_o draw_v they_o out_o and_o put_v they_o in_o another_o way_n so_o that_o they_o be_v man_n of_o wonder_n in_o the_o world_n their_o way_n be_v of_o another_o fashion_n and_o this_o declare_v they_o to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o high_a god_n he_o own_v they_o only_o upon_o this_o condition_n as_o you_o may_v see_v 2_o cor._n 6.17_o 18._o come_v out_o say_v god_n and_o be_v you_o the_o root_n and_o how_o be_v they_o twice_o dead_a they_o be_v not_o dead_a at_o all_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o outward_a and_o natural_a life_n for_o they_o be_v then_o alive_a and_o work_a enjoy_v now_o be_v it_o so_o that_o the_o life_n which_o jesus_n christ_n etc._n etc._n this_o than_o shall_v stay_v use_v 1_o we_o and_o support_v we_o against_o the_o fear_n of_o those_o tentation_n which_o threaten_v we_o with_o the_o destruction_n of_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n it_o be_v a_o great_a affliction_n to_o the_o saint_n sometime_o when_o they_o be_v mighty_o assault_v by_o satan_n and_o their_o own_o corruption_n and_o even_o ready_a to_o be_v overcome_v they_o cry_v out_o with_o relation_n to_o their_o spiritual_a as_o job_n with_o respect_n to_o his_o natural_a life_n what_o 20._o and_o so_o on_o to_o the_o conclusion_n of_o the_o chapter_n neither_o pray_v i_o for_o these_o alone_a but_o for_o they_o also_o that_o shall_v believe_v on_o i_o through_o their_o word_n i_o must_v at_o this_o time_n make_v a_o little_a entrance_n upon_o our_o saviour_n prayer_n in_o behalf_n of_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n who_o be_v present_a with_o he_o they_o be_v very_o near_o of_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n discover_v first_o what_o he_o himself_o have_v do_v in_o reference_n to_o they_o and_o than_o what_o they_o have_v do_v in_o reference_n to_o he_o what_o they_o be_v both_o in_o relation_n to_o himself_o and_o to_o his_o father_n and_o where_o they_o be_v viz._n in_o such_o a_o place_n wherein_o they_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o his_o prayer_n these_o thing_n be_v interweave_v and_o commix_v and_o we_o must_v take_v they_o in_o our_o progress_n as_o we_o find_v they_o only_o this_o will_v be_v consider_v that_o all_o of_o they_o be_v premise_v by_o our_o saviour_n before_o he_o put_v up_o one_o petition_n for_o they_o to_o show_v what_o cause_n there_o be_v why_o they_o shall_v be_v remember_v in_o his_o prayer_n begin_v we_o with_o the_o first_o thing_n which_o our_o saviour_n mention_n by_o way_n of_o preparation_n to_o the_o prayer_n which_o he_o make_v for_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n unto_o the_o man_n which_o thou_o give_v i_o out_o of_o the_o world_n and_o here_o you_o may_v take_v notice_n with_o i_o of_o these_o two_o particular_n first_o the_o action_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o reference_n to_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n of_o which_o he_o mind_v his_o father_n here_o i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n second_o the_o description_n of_o the_o person_n to_o who_o he_o have_v make_v know_v his_o father_n name_n viz._n the_o man_n which_o he_o have_v give_v he_o out_o of_o the_o world_n for_o open_v of_o the_o former_a we_o must_v examine_v and_o resolve_v what_o be_v intend_v by_o the_o father_n name_n which_o christ_n affirm_v here_o he_o have_v make_v know_v i_o have_v manifest_v thy_o name_n some_o think_v the_o meaning_n to_o be_v only_o this_o that_o he_o have_v make_v he_o know_v to_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n under_o the_o notion_n of_o a_o father_n they_o know_v he_o as_o a_o god_n before_o and_o so_o do_v general_o all_o the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n but_o as_o a_o father_n in_o his_o son_n they_o have_v no_o acquaintance_n with_o he_o now_o by_o this_o name_n our_o saviour_n have_v discover_v he_o and_o how_o then_o be_v it_o that_o you_o that_o have_v so_o long_o converse_v with_o i_o and_o have_v hear_v so_o much_o from_o i_o be_v yet_o so_o unacquainted_a with_o my_o father_n if_o you_o come_v to_o his_o knowledge_n for_o the_o instruction_n and_o the_o information_n of_o his_o people_n indeed_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n the_o gospel_n contain_v in_o it_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v necessary_a to_o be_v know_v of_o god_n the_o father_n whether_o his_o nature_n or_o his_o will_n or_o his_o son_n or_o his_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v able_a of_o itself_o without_o addition_n to_o make_v we_o wise_a unto_o salvation_n 2_o tim._n 3.15_o this_o be_v a_o perfect_a and_o a_o full_a discovery_n so_o that_o we_o need_v no_o other_o knowledge_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o bring_v we_o to_o salvation_n then_o that_o which_o be_v reveal_v to_o we_o in_o the_o scripture_n 3._o three_o christ_n make_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o be_v the_o compliment_n of_o all_o in_o this_o business_n indeed_o there_o be_v a_o full_a discovery_n of_o he_o in_o the_o word_n material_o there_o be_v nothing_o want_v there_o but_o it_o be_v not_o full_a to_o we_o without_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n christ_n show_v his_o father_n there_o in_o all_o his_o glory_n excellency_n overflow_a love_n to_o his_o people_n but_o if_o the_o spirit_n do_v not_o cure_v the_o blindness_n of_o our_o eye_n and_o open_v they_o and_o take_v away_o the_o vail_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o we_o can_v never_o see_v he_o it_o be_v the_o comforter_n the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o teach_v all_o thing_n conceive_v it_o efficacious_o and_o with_o success_n joh._n 14.28_o who_o come_v out_o from_o the_o father_n and_o make_v know_v the_o father_n name_n to_o his_o people_n thus_o we_o have_v see_v how_o jesus_n christ_n make_v this_o discovery_n now_o let_v we_o see_v why_o jesus_n christ_n make_v this_o discovery_n of_o his_o father_n and_o here_o you_o may_v remember_v i_o propound_v two_o thing_n first_o why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n and_o second_o why_o the_o discovery_n which_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n 1._o first_o as_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n there_o be_v two_o weighty_a reason_n for_o it_o for_o first_o none_o but_o he_o be_v able_a and_o next_o none_o but_o he_o be_v fit_a to_o make_v it_o 1._o first_o none_o but_o jesus_n christ_n be_v able_a to_o make_v this_o full_a discovery_n of_o his_o father_n for_o none_o but_o he_o be_v perfect_o acquaint_v with_o he_o alas_o all_o man_n be_v stranger_n to_o the_o father_n the_o worst_a man_n absolute_o and_o in_o all_o respect_n and_o the_o best_a in_o some_o measure_n and_o all_o the_o knowledge_n which_o any_o soul_n have_v of_o he_o it_o have_v from_o jesus_n christ_n too_o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n jesus_n christ_n have_v the_o full_a knowledge_n of_o his_o father_n he_o do_v not_o know_v he_o outward_o alone_a but_o he_o know_v his_o very_a heart_n and_o the_o secret_n of_o his_o bosom_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v say_v to_o lodge_v there_o and_o so_o to_o be_v the_o only_a possible_a revealer_n of_o the_o father_n to_o the_o world_n no_o man_n have_v see_v god_n at_o any_o time_n the_o only_o beget_v son_n which_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n he_o have_v declare_v he_o joh._n 1.18_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o any_o one_o to_o make_v the_o father_n know_v unless_o he_o know_v he_o now_o this_o be_v proper_a and_o peculiar_a to_o the_o son_n no_o man_n know_v the_o father_n but_o the_o son_n that_o be_v original_o primitive_o of_o himself_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v add_v present_o and_o he_o to_o who_o the_o son_n will_v reveal_v he_o joh._n 11.27_o 2._o second_o as_o none_o but_o christ_n be_v able_a so_o none_o but_o christ_n be_v fit_a to_o manifest_v his_o father_n to_o his_o people_n he_o be_v the_o only_a mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n there_o be_v but_o one_o as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o and_o that_o be_v christ_n 1_o tim._n 2.5_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v congruous_a that_o he_o shall_v manage_v and_o transact_v the_o business_n all_o the_o business_n between_o god_n and_o man_n that_o all_o shall_v go_v through_o his_o hand_n he_o be_v to_o make_v god_n friend_n with_o we_o and_o to_o make_v we_o friend_n with_o god_n the_o peace_n must_v be_v on_o both_o side_n and_o how_o shall_v he_o effect_v the_o latter_a but_o by_o reveal_v and_o make_v know_v his_o father_n to_o we_o in_o all_o his_o beauty_n and_o his_o glory_n and_o his_o excellency_n in_o himself_o in_o all_o the_o tenderness_n and_o dearness_n of_o his_o love_n to_o we_o and_o so_o to_o join_v our_o heart_n to_o he_o this_o latter_a be_v especial_o the_o name_n of_o god_n which_o christ_n be_v as_o a_o saviour_n to_o discover_v viz._n his_o attribute_n of_o love_n and_o mercy_n this_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o christ_n indeed_o to_o manifest_v this_o name_n of_o god_n all_o that_o be_v sweet_a and_o lovely_a in_o he_o to_o his_o people_n this_o may_v suffice_v to_o let_v you_o know_v why_o jesus_n christ_n and_o none_o but_o he_o make_v this_o discovery_n of_o the_o father_n to_o his_o people_n we_o have_v but_o one_o thing_n yet_o behind_o why_o the_o discovery_n that_o he_o make_v be_v such_o a_o absolute_a and_o full_a discovery_n i_o give_v you_o but_o two_o reason_n of_o it_o and_o i_o have_v do_v for_o this_o time_n he_o do_v it_o
be_v desirous_a to_o be_v go_v and_o to_o return_v to_o he_o that_o send_v he_o and_o therefore_o this_o he_o urge_v very_o hard_a when_o he_o enrreat_v his_o father_n to_o receive_v he_o to_o father_n servant_n very_o often_o in_o the_o scripture_n and_o true_o my_o brethren_n he_o be_v a_o diligent_a and_o faithful_a one_o assoon_o as_o he_o have_v do_v his_o work_n in_o one_o place_n away_o go_v he_o unto_o another_o he_o do_v not_o love_n to_o stay_v and_o idle_a there_o where_o he_o have_v no_o work_n to_o do_v but_o where_o his_o business_n and_o employment_n be_v there_o be_v you_o will_v ask_v i_o what_o that_o work_n be_v i_o answer_v 1._o he_o be_v to_o triumph_v there_o over_o his_o enemy_n and_o we_o this_o be_v a_o necessary_a and_o important_a business_n and_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v complete_o here_o in_o this_o world_n at_o least_o not_o till_o and_o in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o his_o departure_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o the_o apostle_n point_v at_o ephes_n 4.8_o when_o he_o ascend_v up_o on_o high_a he_o lead_v captivity_n captive_a he_o do_v it_o not_o before_o or_o after_o but_o in_o that_o article_n of_o time_n when_o he_o ascend_v when_o he_o return_v to_o his_o own_o country_n than_o he_o lead_v his_o captive_n with_o he_o even_o as_o those_o conqueror_n of_o old_a among_o the_o roman_n when_o they_o return_v back_o to_o rome_n after_o some_o glorious_a victory_n be_v wont_a to_o bring_v their_o captive_n with_o they_o which_o they_o have_v take_v in_o the_o war_n and_o to_o lead_v they_o by_o their_o chariot_n in_o a_o victorious_a and_o triumphant_a way_n so_o jesus_n christ_n when_o he_o have_v conquer_v sin_n and_o death_n and_o hell_n and_o be_v return_v out_o of_o this_o world_n to_o the_o immediate_a presence_n of_o his_o father_n to_o the_o country_n whence_o he_o come_v he_o do_v it_o in_o a_o glorious_a and_o triumphant_a way_n he_o do_v not_o steal_v away_o out_o of_o the_o world_n as_o if_o he_o have_v ashamed_a of_o that_o which_o he_o have_v do_v or_o suffer_v there_o as_o if_o he_o have_v be_v overcome_v no_o he_o go_v away_o triumph_v as_o one_o that_o have_v absolute_o conquer_v and_o beat_v all_o that_o stand_v against_o he_o bring_v along_o his_o prisoner_n with_o he_o 2._o jesus_n christ_n be_v go_v away_o etc._n etc._n that_o he_o may_v send_v down_o his_o spirit_n to_o his_o people_n that_o be_v another_o work_n he_o have_v to_o do_v the_o spirit_n be_v not_o to_o come_v down_o till_o he_o come_v up_o and_o therefore_o he_o ascend_v that_o the_o spirit_n may_v descend_v abundant_o upon_o his_o people_n and_o this_o be_v that_o of_o which_o he_o mind_v his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o leave_v they_o joh._n 16.7_o it_o be_v expedient_a for_o you_o that_o i_o go_v away_o and_o why_o so_o for_o if_o i_o do_v not_o go_v away_o the_o comforter_n the_o holy_a spirit_n will_v not_o come_v while_o i_o be_o with_o you_o in_o in_o the_o behalf_n of_o his_o people_n so_o that_o he_o may_v have_v intercede_v for_o they_o by_o vocal_a supplication_n have_v he_o remain_v still_o in_o this_o world_n and_o have_v he_o never_o go_v hence_o yea_o but_o he_o can_v not_o then_o have_v intercede_v for_o they_o by_o personal_a appearance_n as_o he_o do_v now_o and_o therefore_o he_o be_v go_v to_o heaven_n that_o he_o may_v appear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o we_o heb._n 9.24_o and_o be_v it_o not_o a_o comfort_n to_o we_o to_o consider_v that_o we_o have_v such_o a_o choice_n and_o precious_a friend_n why_o than_o he_o show_v they_o their_o work_n and_o their_o transgression_n that_o they_o have_v exceed_v in_o q.d._n at_o such_o a_o time_n his_o manner_n be_v to_o represent_v their_o sin_n to_o they_o with_o all_o their_o circumstantial_a aggravation_n see_v a_o example_n of_o it_o in_o the_o lord_n own_o people_n gen._n 42.21_o when_o joseph_n brethren_n see_v themselves_o take_v for_o spy_n in_o egypt_n and_o so_o in_o present_a danger_n of_o their_o life_n the_o sin_n they_o have_v commit_v many_o year_n ago_o come_v as_o fresh_a into_o their_o mind_n and_o lay_v as_o heavy_a on_o their_o conscience_n as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v new_o do_v i_o know_v that_o trouble_n and_o distress_n and_o the_o approach_n of_o death_n itself_o have_v not_o always_o this_o effect_n on_o all_o be_v a_o abomination_n to_o he_o prov._n 16.5_o neither_o be_v there_o be_v any_o man_n but_o have_v some_o relic_n of_o this_o leaven_n in_o he_o which_o puff_v up_o his_o heart_n and_o make_v he_o transgression_n he_o have_v do_v but_o one_o of_o these_o for_o guilt_n be_v nothing_o but_o the_o obligation_n or_o bind_v over_o of_o the_o sinner_n to_o damnation_n so_o that_o in_o quit_v we_o of_o this_o he_o have_v but_o save_v we_o from_o the_o wrath_n to_o come_v as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v he_o have_v not_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o happiness_n to_o come_v and_o therefore_o since_o he_o must_v tell_v they_o christ_n have_v not_o satisfy_v for_o they_o if_o he_o do_v not_o sanctify_v they_o he_o have_v not_o set_v himself_o apart_o to_o to_o be_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o they_o if_o he_o do_v not_o set_v they_o apart_o to_o be_v a_o holy_a and_o peculiar_a people_n to_o himself_o and_o unto_o such_o as_o turn_v this_o grace_n into_o licentiousness_n i_o say_v as_o moses_n do_v
