be_v circumspect_a in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o our_o life_n i_o know_v the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n count_v preciseness_n of_o life_n the_o great_a folly_n that_o may_v be_v and_o therefore_o often_o call_v those_o precise_a fool_n who_o endeavour_n to_o live_v sober_o righteous_o and_o godly_a in_o this_o present_a world_n but_o at_o last_o it_o will_v appear_v the_o great_a point_n of_o wisdom_n for_o the_o better_a clear_n and_o press_v this_o duty_n i_o shall_v show_v you_o wherein_o this_o exact_a walk_n do_v consist_v 1._o in_o walk_v by_o rule_n as_o the_o carpenter_n when_o he_o will_v do_v his_o work_n exact_o do_v all_o by_o rule_n so_o must_v the_o christian_n that_o will_v walk_v accurate_o he_o must_v walk_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o only_a adequate_a rule_n of_o holiness_n he_o must_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o buy_v and_o sell_v and_o work_v and_o rest_n and_o all_o by_o this_o rule_n therefore_o say_v the_o apostle_n 6.16_o as_o many_o as_o walk_v by_o this_o rule_n peace_n be_v on_o they_o and_o on_o the_o israel_n of_o god_n let_v our_o walk_n be_v never_o so_o specious_a and_o glorious_a yet_o if_o it_o be_v not_o straight_o and_o according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o scripture_n as_o it_o will_v afford_v no_o true_a solid_a comfort_n at_o the_o last_o so_o neither_o will_v it_o find_v acceptance_n with_o god_n for_o as_o nothing_o be_v a_o sin_n how_o great_a a_o show_n of_o evil_a soever_o it_o bear_v but_o that_o which_o swerve_v from_o the_o direction_n of_o god_n word_n so_o nothing_o be_v a_o good_a work_n how_o great_a a_o show_n of_o goodness_n soever_o it_o bear_v but_o only_o that_o which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o direction_n of_o his_o word_n therefore_o moses_n give_v this_o in_o express_a charge_n to_o the_o israelite_n 5.32_o you_o shall_v observe_v to_o do_v as_o the_o lord_n your_o god_n have_v command_v you_o you_o shall_v not_o turn_v aside_o to_o the_o right_a hand_n nor_o to_o the_o left_a 2._o our_o exact_a walk_n consist_v in_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a part_n of_o the_o law_n as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o outward_a and_o external_a in_o every_o command_n of_o god_n there_o be_v both_o a_o outward_a and_o external_a part_n and_o also_o a_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a part_n the_o former_a i_o may_v call_v the_o letter_n of_o the_o law_n the_o latter_a the_o spirit_n of_o the_o law_n this_o our_o saviour_n excellent_o clear_v in_o his_o sermon_n on_o the_o mount_n where_o recite_v the_o six_o commandment_n 22._o he_o say_v thou_o shall_v do_v no_o murder_n there_o be_v the_o letter_n of_o the_o law_n and_o then_o add_v by_o way_n of_o explanation_n but_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o whosoever_o be_v angry_a with_o his_o brother_n without_o a_o cause_n shall_v be_v in_o danger_n of_o judgement_n there_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o law_n so_o afterward_o recite_v the_o seven_o commandment_n say_v thou_o shall_v not_o commit_v adulterer_n in_o heart_n though_o they_o commit_v no_o such_o wickedness_n in_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o hereby_o be_v the_o hypocrisy_n of_o many_o professor_n of_o christianity_n discover_v who_o reach_v no_o far_a than_o the_o outside_n of_o religion_n who_o godliness_n be_v nothing_o but_o carnal_a service_n and_o bodily_a exercise_n whereas_o the_o law_n be_v spiritual_a 7.14_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v reach_v to_o the_o very_a inward_o of_o the_o soul_n and_o say_v our_o saviour_n god_n be_v a_o spirit_n 4.24_o and_o will_v be_v worship_v inward_o with_o the_o spirit_n as_o well_o as_o outward_o with_o the_o body_n whosoever_o therefore_o walk_v exact_o content_v not_o himself_o with_o the_o external_o of_o christianity_n but_o labour_n to_o bring_v up_o his_o heart_n to_o the_o inward_o thereof_o strive_v to_o suppress_v evil_a thought_n to_o mortify_v unclean_a lust_n and_o all_o inordinate_a affection_n to_o abhor_v and_o watch_v against_o secret_a impurity_n as_o well_o as_o open_a impiety_n this_o be_v to_o walk_v exact_o and_o
