world_n i_o know_v not_o in_o what_o better_a to_o instance_n then_o in_o that_o of_o gen._n 25.23_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n say_v to_o rebecca_n the_o elder_a shall_v serve_v the_o young_a and_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n in_o much_o dispute_n among_o divine_n wherein_o this_o be_v ever_o make_v good_a and_o say_v that_o esau_n be_v never_o a_o servant_n to_o jacob_n for_o you_o shall_v find_v do_v and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a measure_n of_o liberty_n that_o a_o child_n of_o god_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o make_v a_o advantage_n of_o all_o the_o affliction_n he_o meet_v with_o in_o this_o world_n these_o thing_n do_v but_o serve_v his_o turn_n and_o afterward_o he_o will_v say_v he_o can_v have_v miss_v none_o of_o they_o so_o that_o this_o be_v a_o second_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n have_v not_o yet_o receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n we_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o serve_v our_o master_n with_o liberty_n of_o spirit_n we_o know_v not_o how_o to_o make_v advantage_n of_o they_o look_v up_o to_o he_o for_o salvation_n in_o all_o his_o way_n and_o distress_n we_o have_v other_o saviour_n but_o not_o he_o if_o we_o look_v for_o salvation_n elsewhere_o esa_n 40.22_o look_v to_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o abandon_v it_o more_o or_o less_o by_o degree_n measure_n after_o measure_n and_o time_n after_o time_n so_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v jam._n 1.21_o lay_v apart_o all_o filthiness_n and_o superfluity_n of_o naughtiness_n etc._n etc._n if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v superfluous_a or_o filthy_a away_o with_o it_o let_v it_o not_o rest_v there_o and_o if_o it_o be_v for_o no_o good_a purpose_n let_v it_o have_v no_o rest_n in_o thou_o there_o be_v many_o part_n of_o knowledge_n that_o be_v not_o contrary_a to_o the_o life_n of_o sanctification_n but_o be_v more_o than_o we_o shall_v have_v use_n of_o in_o our_o calling_n and_o though_o they_o may_v be_v such_o thing_n as_o other_o may_v make_v use_n of_o yet_o they_o be_v superfluous_a when_o they_o be_v of_o no_o use_n to_o we_o in_o our_o calling_n than_o put_v they_o away_o unless_o they_o be_v of_o use_n either_o for_o necessity_n or_o expediency_n than_o nature_n will_v cast_v they_o in_o some_o measure_n have_v not_o have_v he_o but_o when_o she_o say_v she_o find_v he_o not_o the_o meaning_n be_v not_o in_o that_o feel_n and_o comfort_n not_o in_o that_o measure_n she_o seek_v for_o not_o in_o that_o life_n and_o power_n her_o soul_n desire_v she_o seek_v he_o by_o night_n in_o a_o dark_a time_n but_o though_o she_o want_v the_o comfort_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o ordinance_n as_o she_o then_o desire_v yet_o she_o have_v christ_n and_o have_v true_a fellowship_n with_o he_o else_o she_o can_v never_o have_v so_o love_v he_o for_o she_o say_v she_o seek_v he_o who_o her_o soul_n love_v worworshipe_v christ_n when_o more_o true_o worworshipe_v and_o this_o be_v indeed_o so_o much_o the_o more_o true_a worship_n of_o he_o when_o it_o be_v so_o hearty_a in_o our_o judgement_n we_o prize_v he_o as_o the_o chief_a blessing_n in_o heaven_n and_o in_o earth_n and_o in_o our_o heart_n we_o so_o affect_v he_o and_o cleave_v unto_o he_o so_o now_o on_o the_o contrary_a let_v the_o same_o heart_n look_v into_o itself_o and_o in_o comparision_n of_o christ_n he_o not_o only_o in_o his_o judgement_n base_o esteem_v of_o himself_o but_o in_o our_o affection_n we_o look_v at_o ourselves_o as_o loathsome_a in_o comparison_n of_o christ_n this_o you_o shall_v find_v to_o be_v true_a the_o more_o the_o heart_n do_v inward_o love_n christ_n the_o less_o we_o do_v love_v ourselves_o so_o when_o god_n reveal_v himself_o to_o job_n he_o cry_v out_o i_o be_o vild_a job_n 40.4_o and_o then_o he_o abhor_v himself_o and_o repent_v in_o dust_n and_o ash_n there_o be_v no_o soul_n that_o have_v any_o high_a esteem_n of_o god_n or_o any_o strong_a affection_n to_o he_o but_o the_o more_o high_o and_o deep_o he_o affect_v he_o the_o more_o he_o disaffect_v himself_o more_o and_o therefore_o christ_n put_v self_n denial_n for_o a_o principal_a part_n of_o his_o worship_n luk._n 9.23_o this_o very_a denial_n of_o ourselves_o be_v a_o worship_n of_o christ_n hereby_o we_o so_o affect_v christ_n that_o we_o be_v quite_o out_o of_o conceit_n and_o love_n of_o ourselves_o and_o so_o loath_a our_o self_n for_o our_o sin_n as_o they_o make_v we_o unmeet_a to_o be_v join_v to_o so_o glorious_a a_o head_n as_o christ_n and_o then_o indeed_o we_o have_v he_o 3_o christ_n 3._o part_v of_o the_o worship_v of_o christ_n a_o three_o part_n of_o this_o worship_n of_o he_o be_v in_o our_o life_n and_o in_o our_o life_n we_o worship_v he_o by_o obedience_n in_o do_v his_o will_n and_o by_o patience_n in_o suffer_v his_o will_n or_o any_o thing_n comfortable_o for_o his_o sake_n obedience_n universal_a obedience_n hearty_a obedience_n be_v a_o true_a and_o sincere_a and_o real_a sign_n of_o this_o worship_n of_o christ_n and_o true_a sincere_a obedience_n to_o he_o be_v a_o true_a have_v of_o he_o this_o be_v first_o when_o a_o man_n have_v such_o respect_n to_o all_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n as_o that_o there_o be_v none_o of_o they_o but_o he_o great_o delight_v in_o it_o psal_n 119.6_o then_o shall_v i_o not_o be_v ashamed_a when_o i_o have_v respect_n to_o all_o thy_o commandment_n he_o look_v at_o they_o all_o with_o such_o respect_n as_o the_o commandment_n of_o a_o great_a god_n he_o respect_v they_o all_o as_o god_n commandment_n when_o as_o a_o man_n be_v willing_a to_o take_v up_o every_o commandment_n and_o imagination_n to_o the_o will_n of_o christ_n 2_o cor._n 10.9_o now_o this_o be_v a_o marvellous_a subjection_n that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o to_o dare_v to_o allow_v himself_o in_o so_o much_o as_o a_o thought_n unless_o it_o be_v in_o a_o way_n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n and_o word_n of_o god_n unless_o a_o thought_n be_v suitable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o christ_n and_o allowable_a he_o will_v not_o be_v at_o his_o own_o choice_n in_o so_o much_o as_o in_o any_o one_o thought_n and_o this_o be_v such_o solid_a and_o complete_a worship_n of_o christ_n as_o that_o a_o great_a speak_v evil_a word_n or_o least_o of_o all_o to_o do_v this_o or_o that_o evil_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n so_o that_o this_o be_v the_o worship_n of_o he_o when_o we_o subject_v all_o the_o passage_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o life_n to_o his_o will_n we_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o not_o man_n col._n 3.23.24_o we_o do_v not_o any_o thing_n in_o our_o calling_n but_o we_o do_v it_o in_o obedience_n to_o christ_n and_o according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o christ_n and_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v the_o service_n we_o do_v to_o christ_n not_o a_o passage_n in_o be_v it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o call_v we_o to_o suffer_v we_o lay_v our_o hand_n upon_o our_o mouth_n and_o sit_v down_o and_o quiet_v ourselves_o in_o this_o that_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o christ_n it_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o be_v for_o the_o
part_n and_o all_o the_o good_a common_a gift_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v find_v sometime_o in_o good_a nature_n and_o sometime_o in_o the_o child_n of_o the_o church_n we_o must_v part_v with_o they_o all_o that_o we_o may_v win_v christ_n 1_o cor._n 3.18_o if_o any_o man_n among_o you_o seem_v to_o be_v wise_a in_o this_o world_n let_v he_o become_v a_o fool_n that_o he_o may_v be_v wise_a who_o ever_o will_v be_v a_o wise_a man_n as_o a_o wise_a man_n he_o can_v be_v if_o he_o have_v not_o his_o part_n in_o christ_n he_o must_v lay_v aside_o his_o serious_a and_o sad_a deliberation_n and_o communication_n with_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n that_o he_o think_v will_v be_v prejudicial_a if_o any_o man_n be_v so_o wise_a as_o to_o see_v this_o and_o that_o danger_n in_o a_o christian_a course_n let_v he_o become_v a_o fool_n else_o he_o shall_v never_o become_v a_o christian_a if_o a_o man_n will_v be_v content_a to_o forsake_v all_o for_o christ_n he_o must_v first_o be_v a_o fool_n and_o be_v content_a to_o be_v count_v a_o fool_n and_o hear_v every_o carnal_a man_n to_o count_v he_o a_o fool_n and_o i_o speak_v not_o only_o of_o carnal_a and_o civil_a wisdom_n that_o that_o only_o be_v to_o be_v deny_v in_o this_o case_n but_o common_a grace_n which_o many_o time_n choke_v all_o the_o hypocrite_n in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o church_n they_o be_v common_o choke_v upon_o this_o point_n upon_o these_o thing_n they_o trust_v and_o do_v therefore_o very_o believe_v that_o this_o and_o that_o interest_n god_n have_v in_o they_o and_o they_o in_o god_n because_o they_o have_v receive_v such_o and_o such_o gift_n from_o he_o and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n former_o mention_v matth._n 7.22_o 23._o they_o plead_v their_o spiritual_a gift_n though_o common_a gift_n and_o such_o as_o may_v be_v find_v in_o worker_n of_o iniquity_n they_o pray_v to_o god_n a_o common_a gift_n and_o they_o prophesy_v in_o his_o name_n they_o have_v prophetical_a gift_n some_o measure_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o ministry_n and_o they_o be_v able_a to_o cast_v out_o devil_n in_o christ_n name_n now_o when_o as_o man_n do_v trust_v upon_o these_o and_o settle_v themselves_o upon_o such_o a_o change_n true_o hereby_o they_o lose_v that_o power_n in_o christ_n which_o else_o they_o may_v have_v have_v it_o be_v a_o wonder_n to_o see_v what_o a_o change_n prophetical_a gift_n will_v work_v in_o a_o man_n 1_o sam._n 10.10_o 12._o he_o there_o saul_n have_v a_o spirit_n of_o pprophecy_n come_v upon_o he_o and_o the_o people_n wonder_v at_o it_o it_o work_v a_o strange_a change_n in_o a_o man_n and_o so_o in_o the_o next_o chap._n the_o 19_o and_o 23_o ver_fw-la he_o prophesy_v till_o he_o come_v at_o such_o a_o place_n so_o that_o you_o shall_v see_v a_o man_n that_o be_v train_v up_o in_o any_o good_a order_n though_o sometime_o give_v to_o loose_a company_n when_o once_o god_n begin_v to_o pour_v into_o he_o any_o spiritual_a gift_n to_o inlighten_v his_o mind_n and_o to_o enlarge_v his_o affection_n that_o he_o begin_v to_o have_v some_o love_n to_o and_o some_o joy_n in_o the_o word_n and_o some_o sorrow_n in_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n and_o some_o comfort_n in_o meditation_n its_o wonder_n to_o see_v what_o a_o change_n this_o will_v work_v in_o the_o spirit_n he_o forthwith_o begin_v to_o abandon_v his_o loose_a course_n and_o set_v himself_o to_o a_o more_o strict_a course_n than_o he_o begin_v to_o see_v his_o acquisite_a learning_n be_v but_o a_o small_a matter_n to_o edification_n he_o prize_v his_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o he_o be_v able_a now_o to_o do_v much_o and_o when_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v thus_o change_v by_o prophetical_a gift_n it_o work_v in_o a_o man_n such_o confidence_n in_o his_o soul_n that_o he_o think_v all_o the_o congregation_n shall_v perish_v before_o he_o can_v perish_v and_o if_o minister_n may_v be_v thus_o deceive_v by_o common_a gift_n and_o deceive_v you_o a_o man_n may_v have_v all_o these_o and_o yet_o not_o prize_n christ_n at_o his_o chief_a good_a he_o may_v have_v all_o these_o and_o yet_o not_o worship_v he_o notwithstanding_o all_o these_o there_o may_v be_v some_o iniquity_n in_o their_o hand_n for_o which_o cause_n god_n will_v not_o show_v mercy_n to_o they_o see_v and_o observe_v if_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o these_o you_o do_v not_o work_v some_o iniquity_n they_o be_v worker_n of_o iniquity_n always_o at_o the_o best_a matth._n 7.23_o you_o may_v be_v worker_n of_o iniquity_n notwithstanding_o all_o take_v away_o but_o the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n be_v peace_n if_o sin_n be_v pardon_v peace_n will_v follow_v upon_o it_o and_o the_o fruit_n of_o this_o righteousness_n be_v quietness_n and_o the_o word_n of_o god_n of_o his_o threaten_n promise_n or_o of_o any_o of_o his_o commandment_n or_o any_o of_o the_o work_n of_o his_o providence_n they_o speak_v not_o of_o they_o cold_o as_o those_o that_o take_v no_o pleasure_n in_o they_o but_o if_o they_o speak_v of_o any_o of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n they_o speak_v with_o some_o reverence_n and_o desire_v after_o they_o and_o settle_v a_o confirmation_n in_o they_o they_o have_v love_n to_o the_o word_n and_o rejoice_v in_o it_o and_o stand_v in_o awe_n and_o in_o fear_n of_o it_o and_o they_o exercise_v their_o heart_n and_o wit_n about_o it_o when_o at_o any_o time_n they_o speak_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n so_o that_o there_o be_v some_o kind_n of_o warmth_n in_o the_o expression_n of_o a_o chirstian_a in_o some_o savoury_a affection_n whereby_o he_o esteem_v of_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n above_o what_o be_v find_v in_o a_o hypocrite_n three_o ordinance_n spiritual_a warmth_n dige_v god_n ordinance_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a kind_n of_o warmth_n by_o which_o the_o soul_n do_v not_o only_o affect_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o by_o which_o it_o do_v in_o some_o measure_n digest_v they_o there_o be_v no_o live_a man_n want_v some_o such_o measure_n of_o heat_n as_o make_v he_o able_a to_o digest_v some_o kind_n of_o diet_n though_o not_o always_o strong_a meat_n especial_o if_o he_o be_v in_o any_o measure_n of_o health_n and_o that_o be_v no_o small_a measure_n of_o heat_n psal_n 119.20_o the_o very_a long_a desire_n it_o always_o have_v to_o god_n judgement_n be_v it_o that_o the_o more_o warm_a other_o 4._o spiritual_a warmth_n heat_v other_o but_o put_v cold_a clog_n and_o piece_n of_o wood_n together_o and_o they_o be_v never_o a_o whit_n the_o warm_a but_o if_o you_o take_v but_o two_o or_o three_o of_o they_o thing_n that_o be_v well_o kindle_v and_o they_o will_v set_v all_o a_o fire_n that_o come_v nigh_o they_o though_o ready_a before_o to_o go_v out_o for_o want_n of_o supply_n if_o you_o lay_v two_o or_o three_o warm_a brand_n together_o they_o will_v kindle_v one_o another_o and_o true_o so_o it_o be_v among_o christian_n take_v you_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v this_o spiritual_a warmth_n in_o he_o though_o almost_o benumb_v for_o want_n of_o good_a company_n and_o good_a conference_n and_o breathe_v forth_o of_o god_n spirit_n and_o grace_n scarce_o feel_v any_o life_n breathe_v in_o their_o knowledge_n or_o prayer_n or_o appetite_n to_o the_o word_n or_o love_n to_o their_o brethren_n little_a warmth_n in_o any_o of_o these_o partly_o through_o want_n of_o supply_v the_o life_n of_o god_n grace_n with_o fit_a nourishment_n whereby_o the_o heart_n shall_v grow_v warm_a as_o natural_a fire_n if_o it_o be_v not_o supply_v with_o new_a fuel_n it_o will_v go_v out_o and_o partly_o sometime_o by_o pour_v cold_a water_n upon_o it_o which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o damp_n the_o fire_n and_o we_o do_v power_n cold_a water_n upon_o this_o life_n of_o grace_n when_o we_o admit_v of_o any_o sinful_a lust_n in_o our_o soul_n those_o do_v marvellous_o eat_v out_o all_o that_o life_n and_o heat_n of_o spirit_n that_o sometime_o we_o have_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o sometime_o by_o a_o excessive_a use_n of_o worldly_a thing_n which_o without_o a_o very_a spiritual_a mind_n do_v clog_v the_o soul_n as_o much_o as_o if_o you_o shall_v throw_v cold_a water_n upon_o a_o fire_n it_o will_v damp_n it_o very_o much_o so_o be_v this_o case_n man_n sometime_o walk_v in_o worldly_a business_n with_o worldly_a affection_n and_o sometime_o give_v leave_n to_o distemper_a lust_n and_o sometime_o neglect_v to_o put_v any_o fuel_n to_o the_o fire_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o soon_o as_o ever_o they_o find_v the_o heart_n well_o warm_v with_o some_o good_a sermon_n or_o a_o good_a prayer_n or_o conference_n or_o the_o like_a they_o think_v this_o fire_n will_v never_o go_v out_o and_o so_o they_o begin_v to_o neglect_v it_o and_o so_o either_o the_o fire_n go_v quit_v out_o or_o else_o be_v so_o damp_a as_o that_o you_o can_v discern_v no_o life_n no_o savour_n or_o power_n of_o religion_n there_o and_o therefore_o such_o a_o thing_n may_v befall_v god_n servant_n they_o may_v grow_v dull_a heart_a one_o way_n or_o other_o as_o you_o have_v hear_v but_o yet_o thus_o much_o let_v i_o say_v though_o this_o sometime_o do_v befall_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n people_n yet_o even_o then_o when_o they_o want_v burn_v and_o chafe_v and_o stir_v up_o there_o be_v something_o in_o they_o that_o argue_v some_o life_n and_o where_o be_v some_o life_n there_o be_v some_o heat_n so_o much_o life_n as_o there_o be_v so_o much_o heat_n be_v there_o so_o much_o as_o you_o take_v away_o of_o your_o christian_a heat_n so_o much_o life_n you_o take_v away_o and_o therefore_o for_o these_o two_o disciple_n that_o go_v to_o emaius_n it_o be_v say_v when_o they_o be_v talk_v one_o with_o another_o they_o be_v into_o they_o by_o say_v ought_v not_o christ_n to_o suffer_v these_o thing_n v._o 24_o 25._o and_o so_o he_o open_v to_o they_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o himself_o and_o these_o word_n put_v new_a life_n into_o they_o and_o do_v blow_v up_o the_o spirit_n and_o heat_n of_o that_o decay_a life_n which_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o grief_n and_o care_n their_o heart_n be_v heat_v yet_o so_o that_o take_v you_o a_o christian_a man_n when_o he_o be_v even_o in_o the_o most_o disorder_v framelook_v how_o much_o he_o have_v lose_v of_o his_o spiritual_a heat_n so_o much_o of_o his_o true_a life_n if_o he_o have_v leave_v to_o be_v warm_a so_o much_o life_n have_v he_o lose_v and_o if_o his_o warmth_n be_v smother_v his_o life_n be_v smother_v for_o the_o present_a and_o even_o as_o life_n will_v show_v itself_o in_o the_o very_a sad_a face_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o dejection_n of_o spirit_n that_o they_o fall_v into_o and_o sometime_o in_o the_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o in_o such_o a_o case_n it_o sometime_o will_v break_v forth_o into_o so_o a_o christian_a soul_n when_o his_o heat_n be_v most_o damp_a there_o be_v a_o sad_a face_n in_o his_o spirit_n that_o he_o discern_v all_o be_v not_o well_o with_o he_o his_o spirit_n be_v benumb_v &_o his_o heart_n in_o his_o own_o thought_n be_v freeze_v within_o he_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o and_o a_o matter_n of_o sadness_n to_o his_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o do_v express_v himself_o sometime_o with_o many_o sad_a and_o deep_a sigh_n and_o groan_n about_o his_o forlorn_a and_o lose_v estate_n and_o yet_o sometime_o you_o shall_v have_v his_o heart_n even_o then_o when_o his_o heart_n be_v most_o cold_a which_o be_v worse_o than_o the_o former_a for_o you_o shall_v
