the_o 3._o observation_n of_o which_o they_o be_v oblige_v by_o circumcision_n be_v a_o manifest_a proof_n that_o justification_n by_o faith_n be_v our_o justification_n by_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n in_o baptism_n which_o be_v our_o admission_n into_o the_o christian_a church_n make_v we_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o child_n of_o god_n which_o be_v a_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o justification_n as_o circumcision_n former_o make_v they_o god_n peculiar_a people_n in_o covenant_n with_o he_o which_o be_v the_o justification_n of_o circumcision_n and_o justification_n by_o faith_n and_o justification_n by_o circumcision_n will_v not_o be_v due_o oppose_v if_o they_o do_v not_o relate_v to_o the_o same_o kind_n of_o justification_n that_o be_v that_o justification_n which_o be_v the_o immediate_a effect_n of_o our_o be_v in_o covenant_n with_o god._n but_o now_o when_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o a_o general_a repentance_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n at_o baptism_n we_o also_o vow_v a_o conformity_n to_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n by_o die_v to_o sin_n and_o walk_v in_o newness_n of_o life_n that_o be_v we_o vow_v a_o universal_a obedience_n to_o all_o the_o law_n of_o righteousness_n which_o the_o gospel_n require_v of_o we_o as_o circumcision_n make_v they_o debtor_n to_o the_o whole_a law_n which_o be_v ibid._n the_o reason_n why_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o evangelical_n righteousness_n which_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n require_v of_o we_o be_v so_o often_o oppose_v in_o this_o dispute_n the_o one_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n or_o of_o work_n the_o other_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n and_o therefore_o as_o circumcision_n can_v not_o justify_v those_o who_o transgress_v the_o law_n no_o more_o will_v faith_n justify_v those_o who_o disobey_v the_o gospel_n but_o the_o righteousness_n 4._o of_o the_o law_n must_v be_v fulfil_v in_o we_o who_o walk_v not_o after_o the_o flesh_n but_o after_o the_o therefore_o when_o we_o relapse_n into_o sin_n after_o baptism_n no_o repentance_n will_v be_v accept_v but_o that_o which_o actual_o reform_v our_o life_n for_o baptismal_a grace_n be_v not_o ordinary_o repeat_v no_o more_o than_o we_o can_v repeat_v our_o baptism_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o that_o very_a difficult_a place_n 6_o heb._n 4_o 5_o 6._o for_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o those_o who_o be_v once_o enlighten_v and_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n and_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o have_v taste_v the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v if_o they_o shall_v fall_v away_o to_o renew_v they_o again_o unto_o repentance_n see_v they_o crucify_v to_o themselves_o the_o son_n of_o god_n afresh_o and_o put_v he_o to_o open_a shame_n this_o severe_a passage_n occasion_v some_o dispute_n about_o the_o canonical_a authority_n of_o this_o epistle_n for_o it_o be_v think_v that_o the_o apostle_n here_o exclude_v all_o man_n from_o the_o benefit_n of_o repentance_n who_o fall_v into_o sin_n again_o after_o baptism_n but_o it_o be_v certain_a this_o be_v not_o the_o apostle_n meaning_n nor_o do_v the_o word_n import_v any_o such_o doctrine_n but_o his_o meaning_n be_v either_o that_o man_n who_o have_v be_v baptize_v and_o thorough_o instruct_v in_o the_o christian_a religion_n may_v sin_v themselves_o into_o a_o impossibility_n of_o repentance_n which_o be_v the_o most_o ordinary_a interpretation_n of_o the_o word_n and_o which_o sense_n i_o give_v before_o of_o they_o and_o be_v in_o part_n the_o true_a sense_n though_o i_o think_v not_o the_o whole_a or_o that_o man_n after_o baptism_n may_v fall_v into_o such_o a_o state_n as_o nothing_o can_v deliver_v they_o out_o of_o but_o baptismal_a grace_n and_o regeneration_n and_o since_o baptism_n can_v be_v repeat_v the_o state_n of_o such_o man_n be_v hopeless_a and_o desperate_a nature_n but_o not_o to_o be_v overcurious_a about_o they_o not_o to_o be_v fond_a of_o enjoy_v they_o nor_o trouble_v for_o the_o want_n of_o they_o never_o to_o indulge_v ourselves_o in_o unlawful_a pleasure_n and_o to_o be_v very_o temperate_a in_o our_o use_n of_o lawful_a one_o to_o be_v sure_a we_o must_v take_v care_n that_o the_o spiritual_a part_n that_o the_o sense_n of_o god_n and_o of_o religion_n be_v always_o predominant_a in_o we_o and_o this_o will_v be_v a_o principle_n of_o life_n in_o we_o a_o principle_n of_o divine_a sensation_n and_o joy_n when_o this_o body_n shall_v tumble_v into_o dust._n vi_o if_o death_n be_v our_o put_v off_o these_o body_n than_o the_o resurrection_n from_o the_o dead_a be_v the_o reunion_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n the_o soul_n do_v not_o die_v and_o therefore_o can_v be_v say_v to_o rise_v again_o from_o the_o dead_a but_o it_o be_v the_o body_n which_o like_o seed_n fall_v into_o the_o earth_n and_o spring_v up_o again_o more_o beautiful_a and_o glorious_a at_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o iust_o to_o believe_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o body_n or_o of_o the_o flesh_n and_o to_o believe_v another_o life_n after_o this_o be_v two_o very_a different_a thing_n the_o heathen_n believe_v a_o future_a state_n but_o never_o dream_v of_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o body_n which_o be_v the_o peculiar_a article_n of_o the_o christian_a faith._n and_o yet_o it_o be_v the_o resurrection_n of_o our_o body_n which_o be_v our_o victory_n and_o triumph_n over_o death_n for_o death_n be_v the_o punishment_n of_o adam_n sin_n and_o those_o who_o be_v in_o a_o separate_a state_n still_o suffer_v the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n dust_n thou_o be_v and_o to_o dust_n thou_o shall_v return_v christ_n come_v to_o glorious_a body_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o good_a man_n be_v in_o a_o very_a happy_a state_n before_o the_o resurrection_n but_o yet_o their_o happiness_n be_v not_o complete_a for_o the_o very_a state_n of_o separation_n be_v a_o imperfect_a state_n because_o a_o separate_a soul_n be_v not_o a_o perfect_a man_n a_o man_n by_o the_o original_a constitution_n of_o his_o nature_n consist_v of_o soul_n and_o body_n and_o therefore_o his_o perfect_a happiness_n require_v the_o unite_a glory_n and_o happiness_n of_o both_o part_n of_o the_o whole_a man._n which_o be_v not_o consider_v by_o those_o who_o can_v apprehend_v any_o necessity_n why_o the_o body_n shall_v rise_v again_o since_o as_o they_o conceive_v the_o soul_n may_v be_v as_o complete_o and_o perfect_o happy_a without_o apostasy_n be_v do_v away_o in_o the_o resurrection_n of_o our_o body_n and_o therefore_o this_o be_v call_v the_o adoption_n viz._n the_o redemption_n of_o our_o body_n 8._o rom._n 23._o for_o than_o it_o be_v that_o god_n public_o own_v we_o for_o his_o son_n when_o he_o raise_v our_o dead_a body_n into_o a_o glorious_a and_o immortal_a life_n and_o beside_o this_o i_o think_v we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o doubt_v but_o the_o reunion_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n will_v be_v a_o new_a addition_n of_o happiness_n and_o glory_n for_o though_o we_o can_v guess_v what_o the_o pleasure_n of_o glorify_a body_n be_v yet_o sure_o we_o can_v imagine_v that_o when_o these_o earthly_a body_n be_v the_o instrument_n of_o so_o many_o pleasure_n a_o spiritual_a and_o glorify_a body_n shall_v be_v of_o no_o use_n a_o soul_n and_o body_n can_v be_v vital_o unite_v but_o there_o must_v be_v a_o sympathy_n between_o they_o and_o receive_v mutual_a impression_n from_o each_o other_o and_o then_o we_o need_v not_o doubt_n but_o that_o such_o glorify_a body_n will_v high_o minister_v though_o in_o a_o way_n unknown_a to_o we_o to_o the_o pleasure_n of_o a_o divine_a and_o perfect_a soul_n will_v infinite_o more_o contribute_v to_o the_o divine_a pleasure_n of_o the_o mind_n than_o these_o earthly_a body_n do_v to_o our_o sensual_a pleasure_n that_o all_o who_o have_v this_o hope_n and_o expectation_n may_v as_o st._n paul_n speak_v earnest_o groan_v within_o themselves_o wait_v for_o the_o adoption_n even_o the_o redemption_n of_o our_o body_n 8._o rom._n 23._o this_o be_v the_o day_n of_o the_o marriage_n of_o the_o lamb_n this_o consummate_v our_o happiness_n when_o our_o body_n and_o soul_n meet_v again_o not_o to_o disturb_v and_o oppose_v each_o other_o as_o they_o do_v in_o this_o world_n where_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o spirit_n be_v at_o perpetual_a enmity_n but_o to_o live_v in_o eternal_a harmony_n and_o to_o heighten_v and_o inflame_v each_o other_o joy_n now_o this_o consideration_n that_o death_n be_v a_o put_v off_o these_o body_n the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a must_v be_v the_o raise_v our_o body_n into_o a_o new_a and_o immortal_a life_n the_o length_n of_o the_o day_n of_o grace_n man_n may_v outlive_v the_o time_n of_o repentance_n may_v so_o harden_v themselves_o in_o sin_n as_o to_o make_v their_o repentance_n moral_o impossible_a but_o they_o can_v outlive_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n to_o true_a penitent_n this_o be_v reason_n enough_o to_o discourage_v man_n from_o delay_v their_o repentance_n and_o indulge_v themselves_o in_o a_o vicious_a course_n of_o life_n lest_o they_o shall_v be_v harden_v by_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o sin_n and_o shall_v be_v forsake_v by_o god_n but_o it_o be_v no_o reason_n to_o discourage_v true_a penitent_n from_o trust_v in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n how_o late_o soever_o their_o repentance_n be_v for_o while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o world_n the_o door_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n do_v not_o signify_v mere_o to_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o to_o vow_v obedience_n to_o he_o but_o to_o obey_v he_o it_o be_v reasonable_a â—nough_o that_o upon_o our_o vow_n of_o obedience_n we_o prevent_v these_o fear_n when_o we_o come_v to_o die_v but_o by_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o make_v our_o call_v and_o election_n sure_a by_o live_v such_o holy_a and_o innocent_a life_n that_o our_o conscience_n may_v not_o condemn_v we_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v have_v confidence_n towards_o god._n 21._o but_o this_o be_v such_o a_o remedy_n as_o few_o of_o these_o man_n like_o they_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o be_v sure_a of_o heaven_n but_o yet_o will_v go_v as_o near_a hell_n as_o they_o can_v without_o danger_n of_o fall_v into_o it_o they_o will_v serve_v god_n but_o must_v reserve_v a_o little_a favour_n and_o indulgence_n to_o their_o lust_n though_o they_o dare_v not_o take_v full_a draught_n of_o sensual_a pleasure_n yet_o they_o must_v be_v sip_v now_o and_o then_o as_o often_o as_o they_o can_v pacify_v their_o conscience_n and_o get_v rid_v of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o of_o another_o world_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v very_o inquisitive_a after_o other_o cure_n for_o a_o accuse_v and_o condemn_v conscience_n be_v mighty_a fond_a of_o such_o mark_n and_o sign_n of_o grace_n as_o will_v secure_v they_o of_o heaven_n without_o the_o severity_n of_o mortification_n
