themselves_o in_o the_o notice_n they_o take_v of_o other_o thing_n as_o of_o all_o those_o work_n of_o providence_n which_o they_o see_v in_o the_o affair_n of_o the_o world_n etc._n etc._n of_o mercy_n and_o god_n of_o all_o comfort_n that_o i_o may_v give_v you_o a_o more_o clear_a and_o manifest_a discovery_n of_o this_o happiness_n of_o a_o true_a christian_n i_o shall_v point_v as_o it_o be_v as_o those_o man_n use_v to_o do_v that_o show_v you_o some_o excellent_a sight_n to_o make_v your_o notice_n the_o more_o accurate_a at_o the_o principal_a part_n of_o it_o open_v and_o demonstrate_v unto_o you_o this_o proposition_n or_o doctrine_n true_a faith_n enable_v a_o man_n etc._n etc._n in_o these_o three_o particular_n first_o true_a faith_n in_o christ_n enable_v a_o man_n to_o draw_v comfort_n 1_o from_o the_o remembrance_n of_o what_o he_o have_v be_v of_o the_o condition_n he_o have_v former_o be_v in_o 2._o from_o the_o apprehension_n of_o that_o which_o he_o be_v in_o at_o present_a 3._o from_o the_o expectation_n of_o what_o he_o may_v be_v in_o for_o the_o future_a now_o these_o three_o thing_n what_o a_o man_n have_v be_v what_o he_o be_v and_o what_o he_o expect_v to_o be_v be_v the_o principal_a and_o most_o usual_a object_n of_o our_o thought_n therefore_o if_o i_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o show_v you_o how_o a_o true_a faithful_a christian_n may_v draw_v matter_n of_o comfort_n from_o all_o these_o i_o suppose_v you_o will_v easy_o apprehend_v how_o he_o may_v comfort_v himself_o also_o in_o the_o notice_n he_o take_v of_o other_o thing_n as_o of_o all_o the_o work_n of_o providence_n which_o he_o see_v in_o the_o affair_n of_o the_o world_n or_o the_o like_a therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o extend_v my_o discourse_n to_o any_o of_o they_o each_o of_o the_o particular_n which_o i_o have_v propound_v unto_o myself_o to_o be_v insist_v upon_o as_o the_o subject_a and_o groundwork_n of_o my_o discourse_n consist_v of_o two_o part_n our_o condition_n be_v twofold_a viz._n of_o the_o inner_a and_o outward_a man_n or_o as_o the_o common_a word_n be_v spiritual_a and_o temporal_a at_o present_a i_o shall_v speak_v only_o of_o the_o temper_n and_o disposition_n of_o a_o christian_n spirit_n in_o reference_n to_o his_o spiritual_a condition_n past_a present_a and_o to_o come_v as_o for_o his_o temporal_a condition_n or_o the_o estate_n of_o his_o outward_a man_n i_o shall_v defer_v my_o discourse_n of_o that_o till_o some_o other_o opportunity_n the_o first_o thing_n that_o i_o be_o to_o show_v you_o be_v that_o a_o true_a christian_n one_o that_o have_v take_v christ_n yoke_n upon_o he_o etc._n etc._n can_v take_v comfort_n find_v rest_n unto_o his_o soul_n in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o his_o life_n past_a whether_o it_o have_v be_v sinful_a or_o holy_a but_o here_o probable_o some_o of_o you_o may_v present_o object_n within_o yourselves_o against_o what_o i_o say_v thus_o how_o can_v a_o true_a christian_a take_v comfort_n in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o his_o sinful_a estate_n why_o what_o then_o be_v mean_v by_o penitence_n or_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v not_o that_o the_o sorrow_n which_o we_o conceive_v by_o the_o remembrance_n of_o our_o sin_n in_o remove_v this_o objection_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o by_o god_n assistance_n i_o shall_v give_v you_o a_o full_a discovery_n of_o this_o truth_n that_o soul_n and_o thus_o my_o brethren_n though_o the_o sorrow_n which_o a_o true_a christian_n a_o faithful_a servant_n of_o the_o live_a god_n conceive_v by_o the_o remembrance_n of_o his_o sinful_a life_n past_a be_v in_o itself_o very_o painful_a and_o grievous_a yet_o it_o work_v for_o he_o the_o great_a ease_n and_o comfort_n it_o only_a root_n out_o of_o the_o heart_n all_o carnal_a joy_n all_o false_a fade_v worldly_a comfort_n to_o plant_v in_o it_o joy_v unspeakable_a and_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o fix_v this_o truth_n in_o your_o mind_n to_o confirm_v you_o in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v recite_v unto_o you_o that_o say_v of_o our_o saviour_n *_o 5.4_o bless_a be_v they_o that_o mourn_v for_o they_o shall_v be_v comfort_v all_o that_o estate_n in_o relation_n to_o god_n that_o be_v as_o that_o course_n of_o life_n wherein_o he_o do_v so_o often_o dishonour_v the_o name_n of_o the_o god_n that_o make_v he_o etc._n etc._n i_o shall_v now_o show_v you_o how_o his_o spirit_n be_v affect_v what_o kind_n of_o thought_n he_o have_v in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o it_o as_o it_o relate_v to_o himself_o as_o a_o estate_n of_o trouble_n of_o which_o he_o be_v ease_v and_o of_o danger_n which_o he_o have_v escape_v now_o my_o brethren_n that_o a_o sinful_a estate_n be_v troublesome_a and_o unquiet_a i_o have_v show_v you_o from_o these_o word_n there_o be_v no_o peace_n etc._n etc._n
that_o it_o be_v also_o a_o dangerous_a estate_n sinner_n be_v every_o moment_n in_o danger_n of_o hell-fire_n i_o presume_v there_o be_v none_o here_o but_o will_v ready_o grant_v and_o i_o suppose_v this_o also_o that_o man_n rejoice_v in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o the_o trouble_n and_o danger_n they_o have_v past_a be_v so_o obvious_a to_o every_o one_o apprehension_n that_o to_o go_v about_o accurate_o and_o logical_o to_o prove_v unto_o you_o that_o a_o christian_a may_v draw_v comfort_n and_o matter_n of_o rejoy_v continual_o from_o the_o remembrance_n of_o his_o sinful_a condition_n as_o troublesome_a and_o dangerous_a will_v be_v but_o to_o misspend_v so_o much_o time_n be_v a_o vain_a and_o mere_a formal_a labour_n therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o show_v you_o this_o truth_n so_o as_o if_o you_o have_v never_o see_v it_o before_o if_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v but_o that_o you_o may_v view_v it_o again_o and_o take_v more_o exact_a notice_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v so_o speak_v of_o it_o that_o i_o shall_v not_o seem_v to_o bring_v the_o truth_n to_o you_o but_o only_o to_o make_v you_o turn_v the_o eye_n of_o your_o understanding_n towards_o it_o be_v habitual_o in_o your_o mind_n already_o though_o probable_o the_o great_a part_n of_o you_o do_v never_o in_o any_o measure_n so_o firm_o apprehend_v it_o so_o thorough_o think_v of_o it_o as_o you_o ought_v to_o do_v and_o here_o i_o can_v but_o make_v a_o far_a digression_n to_o speak_v a_o word_n against_o the_o folly_n of_o some_o man_n who_o pretend_v much_o to_o polite_a reason_n and_o learning_n account_v it_o a_o have_v when_o he_o reflect_v upon_o his_o unregenerate_a estate_n as_o troublesome_a and_o dangerous_a and_o this_o i_o shall_v do_v as_o brief_o and_o pithy_o as_o i_o can_v you_o know_v it_o be_v
