receive_v it_o unworthy_o and_o profane_v the_o lord_n body_n but_o it_o may_v be_v he_o go_v on_o and_o see_v it_o not_o but_o now_o look_v upon_o his_o spirit_n and_o see_v how_o god_n deal_v with_o that_o whether_o his_o heart_n do_v not_o grow_v hard_o and_o more_o obdurate_a which_o be_v the_o great_a curse_n you_o may_v observe_v this_o every_o where_o if_o thou_o see_v one_o that_o have_v a_o vain_a and_o idle_a spirit_n that_o can_v study_v that_o can_v pray_v that_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v carry_v away_o by_o a_o unruly_a lust_n to_o this_o or_o that_o thing_n believe_v it_o this_o be_v a_o great_a judgement_n than_o all_o the_o disease_n in_o the_o world_n than_o all_o shame_n and_o disgrace_n that_o we_o account_v so_o much_o of_o than_o poverty_n and_o cross_n as_o it_o be_v the_o great_a mercy_n on_o the_o other_o side_n when_o a_o man_n be_v able_a to_o serve_v god_n with_o a_o upright_a heart_n and_o to_o be_v sincere_a in_o all_o his_o carriage_n thus_o it_o be_v hatred_n manifest_v to_o thou_o his_o great_a judgement_n show_v to_o thou_o or_o his_o great_a mercy_n 3._o the_o three_o use_n be_v that_o which_o the_o scripture_n make_v of_o it_o john_n 4_o 24._o with_o a_o foul_a pipe_n and_o obstruct_v there_o he_o do_v not_o confer_v any_o blessing_n now_o if_o thou_o say_v i_o have_v thus_o behave_v myself_o and_o have_v not_o be_v answer_v do_v not_o deceive_v thyself_o for_o if_o it_o be_v true_o perform_v you_o shall_v be_v answer_v so_o that_o look_v if_o it_o be_v true_o do_v expect_v a_o blessing_n god_n will_v not_o suffer_v his_o man_n who_o we_o be_v to_o advertise_v in_o this_o case_n take_v heed_n though_o you_o pray_v every_o day_n yet_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o have_v not_o make_v a_o prayer_n all_o thy_o life_n yet_o and_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o many_o for_o if_o thou_o consider_v what_o a_o ordinance_n be_v indeed_o thou_o shall_v know_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o reckon_v all_o petition_v as_o a_o prayer_n nor_o set_v it_o down_o for_o the_o ordinance_n and_o it_o may_v be_v the_o case_n of_o the_o saint_n sometime_o though_o we_o speak_v not_o now_o to_o they_o they_o may_v pray_v often_o and_o yet_o the_o lord_n not_o register_n nor_o set_v it_o down_o for_o a_o prayer_n and_o therefore_o it_o may_v never_o come_v into_o remembrance_n before_o he_o and_o this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v david_n case_n rather_o than_o sacrifice_v even_o mercy_n upon_o your_o body_n so_o also_o when_o you_o find_v that_o it_o hurt_v the_o inward_a man_n and_o hinder_v it_o when_o the_o heart_n do_v it_o out_o of_o a_o conceit_n that_o it_o may_v perform_v it_o the_o better_a than_o there_o be_v a_o liberty_n leave_v unto_o you_o to_o dispense_v with_o it_o as_o i_o say_v for_o prayer_n so_o for_o other_o duty_n when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n he_o say_v my_o mind_n be_v intent_n enough_o though_o i_o make_v not_o such_o a_o show_n yet_o notwithstanding_o know_v this_o that_o thou_o must_v behave_v thyself_o reverent_o when_o thou_o come_v before_o god_n you_o shall_v see_v in_o luke_n 4._o when_o christ_n preach_v 4._o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o eye_n of_o all_o the_o people_n be_v have_v then_o when_o we_o come_v to_o call_v upon_o his_o name_n answ._n we_o may_v not_o conceive_v he_o under_o any_o corporeal_a shape_n for_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o they_o that_o think_v they_o may_v worship_v the_o humanity_n of_o christ_n disjoin_v be_v deceive_v we_o be_v not_o to_o worship_v it_o as_o separate_v from_o his_o deity_n for_o we_o be_v to_o worship_v the_o trinity_n in_o the_o unity_n and_o the_o unity_n in_o trinity_n which_o we_o can_v do_v if_o we_o worship_v his_o humanity_n as_o separate_v from_o his_o deity_n therefore_o when_o you_o come_v to_o pray_v before_o god_n you_o must_v remember_v 34.6_o that_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n strong_a gracious_a merciful_a full_a of_o goodness_n and_o truth_n etc._n etc._n concern_v which_o three_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v first_o that_o he_o be_v a_o spirit_n object_n but_o how_o shall_v i_o conceive_v of_o a_o spirit_n answ._n how_o do_v thou_o conceive_v but_o to_o say_v it_o be_v truth_n itself_o love_v itself_o light_v itself_o or_o wisdom_n itself_o that_o can_v be_v attribute_v to_o any_o creature_n so_o that_o this_o you_o must_v know_v that_o god_n be_v one_o most_o pure_a entire_a and_o uniform_a be_v or_o essence_n i_o be_o show_v that_o he_o be_v a_o be_v and_o if_o we_o shall_v ask_v what_o kind_n of_o be_v he_o be_v he_o be_v a_o most_o simple_a and_o uncompounded_a be_v and_o that_o he_o be_v so_o we_o will_v make_v it_o clear_a by_o these_o reason_n reason_n 1_o because_o if_o there_o be_v many_o thing_n in_o he_o they_o must_v not_o be_v the_o same_o but_o different_a if_o different_a one_o have_v one_o perfection_n which_o another_o want_n if_o so_o there_o must_v be_v something_o imperfect_a in_o god_n for_o if_o the_o defect_n of_o that_o be_v make_v up_o it_o will_v be_v more_o perfect_a 2._o if_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n in_o god_n then_o there_o be_v multiplication_n now_o all_o multiplication_n arise_v from_o some_o imperfection_n from_o some_o want_n and_o defect_n for_o if_o one_o will_v serve_v two_o will_v not_o be_v require_v as_o if_o one_o can_v draw_v a_o ship_n or_o boat_n up_o the_o stream_n two_o be_v needless_a if_o one_o medicine_n will_v cure_v two_o will_v be_v unnecessary_a so_o in_o all_o thing_n else_o so_o that_o the_o reason_n of_o multiplication_n be_v because_o one_o will_v not_o serve_v the_o turn_n therefore_o god_n be_v all-sufficient_a it_o be_v not_o needful_a yea_o it_o can_v be_v that_o a_o break_n into_o two_o shall_v be_v admit_v in_o he_o and_o consequent_o he_o must_v be_v most_o simple_a without_o all_o composition_n a_o pure_a and_o entire_a essence_n full_a of_o himself_o and_o nothing_o beside_o if_o god_n shall_v have_v love_n in_o he_o or_o justice_n 3_o or_o wisdom_n or_o life_n or_o any_o other_o quality_n different_a from_o his_o essence_n as_o the_o creature_n have_v they_o he_o shall_v be_v what_o he_o be_v not_o original_o of_o himself_o but_o derivative_o and_o by_o participation_n and_o so_o imperfect_o as_o to_o be_v fiery_a be_v more_o imperfect_a than_o to_o be_v fire_n itself_o to_o be_v gild_v be_v more_o imperfect_a than_o to_o be_v gold_n itself_o so_o to_o be_v wise_a love_a holy_a that_o be_v to_o be_v endue_v with_o the_o quality_n of_o wisdom_n love_n holiness_n be_v more_o imperfect_a than_o to_o be_v wisdom_n and_o love_n and_o holiness_n itself_o therefore_o there_o be_v not_o a_o substance_n and_o a_o quality_n in_o god_n as_o in_o the_o creature_n but_o he_o be_v love_n and_o light_n and_o wisdom_n and_o truth_n and_o so_o the_o scripture_n express_v he_o wheresoever_o there_o be_v any_o composition_n 4._o there_o must_v be_v two_o or_o three_o thing_n so_o that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o division_n they_o be_v separable_a though_o not_o separate_v but_o where_o division_n may_v be_v there_o may_v be_v a_o dissolution_n and_o destruction_n though_o it_o never_o be_v but_o of_o god_n we_o can_v say_v that_o this_o may_v be_v and_o consequent_o there_o can_v be_v two_o thing_n in_o he_o but_o what_o he_o be_v he_o be_v one_o most_o simple_a most_o pure_a and_o most_o entire_a be_v without_o all_o composition_n and_o multiplication_n 5._o if_o god_n be_v not_o simple_a there_o must_v be_v part_n of_o which_o he_o be_v compound_v but_o in_o god_n bless_v this_o with_o a_o reason_n out_o of_o the_o text_n he_o be_v a_o be_v i_o be_o have_v send_v i_o unto_o you_o if_o he_o be_v a_o be_v then_o either_o the_o first_o or_o second_o be_v a_o second_o be_v he_o can_v be_v for_o then_o there_o shall_v be_v some_o before_o he_o and_o above_o he_o upon_o which_o he_o shall_v be_v dependent_a but_o this_o can_v be_v therefore_o he_o be_v absolute_o the_o
