god_n himself_o be_v love_n and_o though_o he_o be_v no_o more_o love_n essential_o than_o he_o be_v wisdom_n justice_n power_n or_o any_o of_o his_o other_o attribute_n yet_o because_o he_o exert_v and_o diffuse_v his_o love_n more_o among_o man_n and_o be_v reveal_v and_o make_v know_v more_o by_o it_o than_o by_o another_o attribute_n it_o be_v speak_v of_o as_o his_o sole_a be_v and_o now_o after_o so_o many_o excellent_a thing_n have_v be_v say_v of_o this_o divine_a grace_n namely_o that_o it_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o the_o commandment_n the_o soul_n of_o all_o virtue_n the_o favourite_n of_o god_n and_o in_o a_o sense_n god_n himself_o certain_o it_o will_v be_v worth_a our_o best_a endeavour_n to_o acquire_v it_o and_o how_o we_o may_v do_v this_o be_v the_o last_o thing_n i_o be_o other_o virtue_n partly_o as_o a_o grace_n of_o god_n bestow_n and_o partly_o as_o that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v acquire_v by_o our_o own_o labour_n for_o there_o be_v something_o of_o gift_n and_o something_o of_o industry_n in_o it_o first_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o grace_n of_o god_n donation_n for_o what_o our_o lord_n say_v of_o faith_n that_o all_o man_n have_v it_o not_o and_o saint_n t_o paul_n that_o no_o man_n have_v it_o of_o himself_o but_o it_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n may_v likewise_o be_v say_v of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o neighbour_n we_o have_v they_o not_o of_o ourselves_o but_o they_o be_v heavenly_a gift_n bear_v of_o a_o divine_a seed_n and_o we_o must_v not_o conceive_v that_o by_o our_o own_o mere_a natural_a power_n and_o humane_a will_v we_o can_v acquire_v they_o to_o the_o soul_n and_o that_o we_o have_v no_o more_o to_o do_v but_o to_o resolve_v to_o obtain_v they_o and_o the_o possession_n will_v follow_v but_o we_o must_v seek_v they_o by_o devout_a address_n from_o god_n and_o expect_v they_o from_o his_o bounty_n they_o be_v as_o i_o say_v grace_n as_o well_o as_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o labour_n as_o our_o church_n therefore_o set_v before_o the_o epistle_n of_o charity_n a_o collect_n or_o prayer_n to_o god_n for_o it_o send_v o_o lord_n into_o our_o heart_n the_o most_o excellent_a gift_n of_o charity_n without_o which_o all_o our_o do_n be_v nothing_o worth_a etc._n etc._n we_o must_v also_o supplicate_v for_o this_o grace_n before_o we_o can_v hope_v to_o attain_v it_o but_o then_o second_o it_o be_v also_o a_o acquisition_n of_o labour_n and_o to_o be_v arrive_v to_o as_o other_o virtue_n or_o habit_n by_o industry_n there_o be_v that_o have_v write_v of_o the_o art_n of_o unchaste_a love_n and_o all_o the_o mystery_n of_o it_o teach_v man_n how_o to_o accomplish_v their_o wicked_a end_n which_o it_o will_v have_v be_v happy_a for_o they_o if_o they_o have_v be_v ignorant_a of_o and_o the_o art_n of_o godly_a love_n may_v be_v also_o teach_v rule_n and_o precept_n give_v to_o make_v man_n master_n of_o it_o and_o the_o way_n in_o general_a to_o raise_v our_o affection_n to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v to_o take_v the_o same_o course_n which_o we_o do_v when_o we_o betray_v ourselves_o into_o a_o humane_a passion_n reflect_v on_o what_o be_v excellent_a and_o amiable_a in_o god_n meditate_v on_o his_o unparalleled_a and_o glorious_a perfection_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o ravish_v we_o from_o the_o desire_n of_o all_o earthly_a thing_n the_o reason_n that_o the_o love_n of_o many_o wax_v cold_a and_o their_o affection_n to_o god_n as_o i_o may_v say_v be_v without_o affection_n without_o heat_n and_o ardour_n be_v because_o they_o understand_v not_o the_o beauty_n of_o his_o essence_n and_o the_o glorious_a operation_n of_o his_o power_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n man_n profess_v to_o be_v worshipper_n of_o god_n to_o be_v bring_v up_o and_o skilled_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o he_o and_o his_o religion_n but_o general_o they_o be_v stranger_n to_o he_o and_o his_o way_n and_o what_o the_o psalmist_n say_v of_o the_o ungodly_a that_o they_o care_v not_o for_o god_n neither_o be_v god_n in_o all_o their_o thought_n i_o fear_v without_o injustice_n may_v be_v affirm_v of_o most_o man_n that_o they_o care_v not_o for_o god_n neither_o be_v he_o in_o all_o their_o thought_n and_o than_o what_o wonder_n be_v it_o si_fw-la ignoti_fw-la nulla_fw-la cupido_fw-la if_o man_n have_v no_o longing_n after_o a_o good_a
