delight_n when_o other_o be_v pinch_v with_o hunger_n have_v but_o bread_n and_o drink_n and_o not_o enough_o of_o that_o who_o themselves_o and_o their_o child_n do_v eat_v by_o measure_n and_o by_o weight_n to_o draw_v out_o their_o food_n at_o length_n their_o soft_a and_o warm_a lodging_n when_o other_o lie_v hard_a and_o cold_a and_o scarce_o can_v be_v warm_a all_o night_n these_o and_o many_o thing_n else_o can_v put_v they_o in_o mind_n from_o day_n to_o night_n and_o from_o night_n to_o day_n what_o great_a cause_n they_o have_v to_o rejoice_v above_o many_o other_o let_v they_o then_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n so_o consider_v of_o they_o that_o they_o may_v rejoice_v for_o god_n have_v give_v they_o to_o they_o to_o that_o end_n as_o solomon_n say_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o preacher_n 2.24_o eccle._n 2.24_o that_o this_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o all_o that_o a_o man_n can_v have_v of_o all_o that_o he_o have_v to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v and_o to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o also_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n as_o he_o confess_v there_o therefore_o they_o above_o all_o other_o must_v confess_v that_o god_n have_v give_v they_o great_a cause_n of_o joy_n and_o nothing_o can_v so_o befall_v they_o unless_o god_n take_v all_o away_o from_o they_o as_o he_o do_v from_o job_n but_o they_o must_v needs_o acknowledge_v that_o still_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o rejoice_v so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a for_o they_o in_o and_z for_o these_o to_o rejoice_v but_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o they_o shall_v do_v so_o and_o it_o be_v require_v at_o their_o hand_n insomuch_o that_o if_o they_o be_v so_o blind_a that_o they_o will_v not_o confess_v that_o they_o have_v great_a cause_n of_o joy_n all_o man_n will_v by_o the_o benefit_n which_o they_o enjoy_v in_o great_a number_n witness_v against_o they_o and_o if_o they_o be_v so_o froward_a that_o they_o will_v not_o rejoice_v all_o man_n will_v condemn_v they_o for_o it_o and_o thus_o we_o see_v that_o all_o sort_n in_o respect_n of_o god_n benefit_n which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o rejoice_v joy_n the_o praise_n of_o god_n must_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o joy_n but_o what_o be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o this_o joy_n and_o for_o all_o these_o cause_n of_o joy_n it_o follow_v in_o the_o next_o word_n of_o the_o text_n on_o this_o wise_a and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n that_o be_v praise_n god_n for_o they_o for_o we_o see_v here_o how_o they_o be_v join_v together_o that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n so_o they_o say_v that_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o joy_n they_o will_v praise_v god_n in_o it_o for_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o and_o this_o aught_o to_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o true_a joy_n in_o all_o man_n and_o for_o all_o thing_n for_o as_o all_o good_a and_o godly_a sorrow_n shall_v drive_v we_o unto_o prayer_n that_o god_n may_v turn_v that_o away_o from_o we_o or_o remove_v it_o for_o which_o we_o do_v sorrow_n so_o on_o the_o themselves_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o joy_n unto_o god_n the_o author_n of_o they_o and_o thus_o do_v the_o apostle_n very_o excellent_o by_o these_o fruit_n note_v out_o unto_o we_o true_a sorrow_n kind_n as_o in_o feast_v which_o be_v lawful_a and_o common_a to_o the_o good_a and_o bad_a and_o which_o be_v a_o honest_a mean_n to_o make_v man_n merry_a and_o glad_a he_o show_v the_o diversity_n of_o the_o mirth_n of_o the_o one_o and_o of_o the_o other_o the_o man_n of_o this_o world_n they_o exceed_v and_o fall_v into_o the_o abuse_n of_o god_n creature_n sometime_o till_o they_o be_v drunken_a or_o have_v surfeit_v and_o so_o also_o give_v themselves_o unto_o that_o mirth_n which_o be_v excessive_a and_o immoderate_a and_o sometime_o yea_o common_o join_v with_o profane_a scoff_a or_o some_o wickedness_n the_o child_n of_o god_n use_v his_o creature_n sober_o and_o in_o his_o presence_n even_o at_o their_o feast_n do_v thereby_o provoke_v one_o another_o to_o praise_n god_n and_o make_v themselves_o merry_a in_o god_n and_o as_o in_o his_o sight_n we_o see_v then_o what_o shall_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o joy_n in_o god_n benefit_n namely_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n and_o to_o what_o end_n also_o he_o give_v to_o we_o so_o many_o thing_n wherein_o we_o may_v rejoice_v even_o that_o he_o may_v have_v the_o whole_a glory_n and_o praise_n of_o they_o so_o that_o whether_o we_o be_v poor_a or_o we_o be_v rich_a have_v we_o more_o or_o have_v we_o less_o to_o rejoice_v in_o this_o must_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o all_o that_o we_o praise_v god_n for_o such_o thing_n as_o make_v we_o to_o rejoice_v and_o so_o as_o there_o be_v none_o in_o the_o world_n but_o he_o have_v some_o cause_n of_o joy_n so_o the_o lord_n look_v for_o continual_a praise_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o we_o all_o but_o as_o many_o have_v more_o cause_n to_o rejoice_v than_o other_o god_n thus_o all_o have_v cause_n to_o praise_v god_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o manifold_a blessing_n which_o they_o enjoy_v above_o they_o so_o he_o look_v for_o more_o praise_n and_o thanks_n at_o their_o hand_n than_o of_o other_o as_o there_o be_v good_a cause_n for_o to_o who_o much_o be_v give_v of_o they_o much_o shall_v be_v require_v which_o if_o they_o do_v not_o labour_v to_o perform_v and_o profit_n by_o god_n benefit_n and_o by_o their_o joy_n in_o they_o to_o that_o end_n it_o may_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o wicked_a may_v have_v as_o much_o joy_n in_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o possess_v as_o themselves_o yea_o the_o very_a unreasonable_a creature_n and_o the_o brute_n beast_n in_o their_o kind_n for_o if_o our_o joy_n end_v not_o in_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n what_o be_v we_o better_o for_o it_o than_o they_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o man_n to_o say_v i_o live_v merry_o and_o at_o my_o heart_n ease_n i_o have_v many_o cause_n of_o joy_n i_o be_o void_a of_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n i_o have_v nothing_o that_o do_v trouble_v i_o but_o be_o in_o continual_a mirth_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o i_o say_v to_o be_v in_o this_o estate_n and_o thus_o to_o boast_v and_o say_v but_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o be_v thankful_a unto_o god_n for_o it_o who_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o &_o let_v our_o joy_n in_o these_o
faith_n in_o god_n promise_n pray_v hypocritical_o that_o be_v more_o with_o his_o tongue_n than_o with_o his_o heart_n see_v then_o that_o god_n promise_n be_v sure_a and_o certain_a he_o will_v not_o have_v we_o so_o to_o pray_v as_o that_o we_o shall_v doubt_v and_o call_v into_o question_n whether_o we_o shall_v be_v hear_v or_o no._n and_o this_o he_o show_v by_o a_o excellent_a and_o very_a fit_a comparison_n for_o as_o the_o wave_n of_o the_o sea_n be_v toss_v and_o carry_v away_o so_o they_o that_o believe_v not_o both_o be_v unquiet_a always_o in_o their_o mind_n yea_o though_o they_o have_v pray_v and_o be_v altogether_o unworthy_a to_o receive_v any_o thing_n therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o god_n in_o our_o prayer_n let_v we_o beforehand_o believe_v that_o he_o will_v hear_v we_o and_o so_o pray_v in_o faith_n and_o say_v as_o this_o people_n do_v here_o i_o know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v and_o help_v so_o shall_v our_o prayer_n be_v acceptable_a unto_o god_n so_o shall_v we_o receive_v that_o that_o we_o ask_v of_o he_o and_o so_o shall_v our_o mind_n be_v pacify_v and_o quiet_a they_o few_o pray_v in_o any_o assurance_n that_o god_n do_v hear_v they_o let_v we_o then_o examine_v ourselves_o and_o see_v whether_o always_o when_o we_o have_v come_v to_o prayer_n we_o have_v have_v this_o faith_n and_o assurance_n that_o god_n will_v hear_v we_o and_o help_v we_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o some_o have_v be_v so_o far_o from_o it_o that_o they_o have_v never_o once_o think_v of_o it_o but_o they_o have_v come_v to_o prayer_n neither_o know_v any_o such_o thing_n nor_o regard_v it_o and_o thus_o have_v they_o do_v not_o only_o in_o the_o day_n of_o ignorance_n &_o superstition_n when_o they_o hold_v it_o a_o error_n for_o a_o man_n to_o think_v that_o he_o may_v be_v assure_v of_o any_o thing_n from_o god_n though_o he_o pray_v for_o it_o never_o so_o earnest_o and_o when_o they_o pray_v in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n and_o so_o know_v not_o themselves_o what_o they_o say_v and_o therefore_o can_v not_o by_o prayer_n have_v any_o assurance_n that_o they_o be_v hear_v but_o also_o in_o this_o clear_a light_n of_o the_o gospel_n many_o have_v and_o do_v still_o both_o in_o their_o private_a prayer_n and_o in_o these_o public_a come_v so_o cold_o to_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v for_o fashion_n that_o they_o neither_o know_v nor_o desire_v to_o know_v nor_o think_v it_o possible_a to_o know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o and_o so_o these_o waver_a mind_a man_n be_v uncertain_a in_o their_o mind_n and_o toss_v too_o and_o fro_o like_o the_o wave_n of_o the_o sea_n may_v be_v assure_v that_o they_o shall_v obtain_v nothing_o of_o god_n god_n jam._n 1.7_o and_o so_o obtain_v nothing_o of_o god_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v but_o let_v we_o endeavour_n to_o put_v that_o in_o practice_v which_o the_o people_n do_v here_o that_o every_o one_o of_o we_o may_v say_v i_o know_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v so_o shall_v we_o obtain_v such_o thing_n as_o we_o ask_v 17.17_o matth_n 17.17_o for_o if_o the_o disciple_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n can_v do_v nothing_o for_o the_o father_n child_n possess_v with_o a_o devil_n when_o there_o be_v most_o need_n because_o of_o their_o unbelief_n then_o shall_v we_o also_o for_o the_o same_o unbelief_n of_o we_o obtain_v nothing_o neither_o for_o ourselves_o nor_o for_o other_o when_o there_o be_v most_o need_n and_o as_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o say_v again_o unto_o they_o that_o all_o thing_n be_v possible_a to_o he_o that_o believe_v so_o shall_v we_o find_v it_o to_o be_v true_a in_o ourselves_o then_o when_o we_o pray_v in_o faith_n it_o shall_v be_v possible_a for_o we_o to_o obtain_v all_o thing_n according_a to_o god_n will_v even_o those_o that_o unto_o the_o unbeliever_n shall_v seem_v impossible_a now_o though_o this_o place_n of_o scripture_n do_v not_o so_o proper_o require_v to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o this_o faith_n and_o assurance_n in_o prayer_n that_o god_n will_v hear_v it_o but_o rather_o only_a that_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v it_o and_o not_o to_o pray_v without_o it_o yet_o that_o i_o may_v not_o leave_v this_o doctrine_n unperfect_a it_o be_v necessary_a to_o say_v somewhat_o of_o it_o first_o therefore_o as_o every_o good_a and_o perfect_a gift_n be_v of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n 1.17_o jam._n 1.17_o and_o come_v from_o above_o even_o from_o the_o father_n of_o light_n so_o do_v this_o most_o of_o all_o 16.14_o act._n 16.14_o and_o as_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o spirit_n open_v the_o heart_n of_o lydia_n that_o she_o believe_v that_o which_o paul_n preach_v so_o christ_n jesus_n be_v he_o upon_o who_o shoulder_n as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v be_v lay_v the_o key_n of_o the_o house_n of_o david_n that_o be_v 22.22_o isai_n 22.22_o of_o the_o whole_a church_n of_o god_n so_o that_o he_o only_o open_v and_o no_o man_n can_v shut_v and_o he_o shut_v and_o no_o man_n can_v open_v that_o be_v he_o only_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n open_v our_o heart_n that_o we_o may_v believe_v and_o give_v we_o assurance_n in_o all_o thing_n of_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n us._n how_o this_o assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v be_v wrought_v in_o us._n therefore_o we_o must_v pray_v to_o he_o that_o he_o will_v give_v we_o that_o assurance_n and_o so_o open_a our_o heart_n that_o we_o may_v believe_v that_o he_o do_v hear_v our_o prayer_n but_o because_o this_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o by_o mean_n and_o our_o faith_n be_v ground_v special_o and_o only_o upon_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o all_o assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v arise_v from_o thence_o we_o must_v know_v and_o believe_v and_o meditate_v upon_o they_o before_o we_o pray_v that_o so_o by_o they_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o he_o will_v hear_v we_o according_a to_o the_o undoubted_a truth_n of_o the_o same_o and_o the_o more_o that_o we_o can_v do_v thus_o the_o great_a assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v shall_v we_o have_v when_o we_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o beside_o this_o we_o must_v know_v that_o the_o same_o assurance_n be_v confirm_v and_o increase_v by_o our_o former_a experience_n daily_o so_o that_o when_o we_o have_v mark_v how_o god_n have_v at_o other_o time_n and_o in_o other_o thing_n hear_v we_o we_o may_v assure_v ourselves_o from_o thence_o that_o he_o will_v do_v so_o now_o also_o for_o as_o among_o man_n when_o we_o have_v oftentimes_o make_v trial_n of_o a_o friend_n in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o need_n we_o go_v to_o they_o afterward_o as_o any_o necessity_n shall_v be_v upon_o we_o with_o great_a confidence_n and_o doubt_v not_o before_o we_o come_v to_o they_o but_o we_o shall_v speed_v if_o they_o have_v it_o so_o upon_o our_o former_a experience_n with_o the_o lord_n we_o ought_v much_o more_o bold_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o in_o time_n of_o need_n who_o have_v not_o only_o promise_v and_o so_o be_v willing_a but_o be_v almighty_a be_v also_o able_a and_o be_v true_a and_o just_a in_o his_o promise_n will_v help_v us._n and_o according_a to_o experience_n of_o former_a time_n some_o do_v read_v this_o text_n that_o we_o have_v in_o hand_n although_o i_o approve_v of_o the_o other_o rather_o which_o i_o have_v follow_v after_o this_o manner_n now_o know_v i_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v save_v his_o anointed_n and_o will_v hear_v he_o from_o his_o sanctuary_n and_o so_o they_o confirm_v their_o hope_n by_o the_o time_n past_a in_o that_o they_o have_v mark_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n towards_o their_o king_n in_o save_v he_o before_o in_o other_o danger_n as_o he_o be_v in_o many_o and_o so_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o he_o will_v hear_v they_o for_o he_o now_o and_o still_o save_v he_o but_o to_o return_v to_o that_o that_o we_o speak_v of_o before_o namely_o how_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o this_o assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v first_o of_o all_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v of_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n promise_n first_o by_o meditate_v upon_o god_n promise_n upon_o which_o our_o faith_n must_v be_v ground_v and_o which_o must_v give_v we_o assure_v knowledge_n of_o be_v hear_v we_o may_v see_v how_o to_o this_o end_n whereunto_o it_o be_v affix_v which_o affection_n must_v always_o be_v according_a to_o the_o matter_n contain_v in_o those_o word_n whereunto_o this_o be_v adjoin_v and_o therefore_o it_o note_v out_o not_o any_o one_o special_a affection_n of_o the_o mind_n as_o some_o interjection_n do_v but_o diverse_a and_o general_o all_o kind_n whatsoever_o which_o must_v be_v in_o we_o diverse_o what_o a_o bless_a thing_n be_v that_o and_o how_o shall_v we_o therefore_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o he_o so_o here_o when_o david_n have_v will_v they_o to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v remember_v his_o prayer_n and_o show_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v they_o he_o add_v selah_n to_o stir_v up_o their_o mind_n and_o his_o own_o they_o that_o they_o may_v pray_v this_o earnest_o for_o he_o and_o know_v that_o he_o have_v great_a need_n of_o it_o for_o he_o commend_v it_o unto_o they_o with_o some_o feel_n and_o he_o know_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a thing_n to_o offer_v up_o any_o thing_n to_o god_n that_o shall_v be_v acceptable_a unto_o he_o if_o we_o consider_v his_o excellency_n and_o our_o own_o unworthines_n and_o for_o himself_o that_o he_o will_v esteem_v this_o as_o a_o great_a benefit_n if_o the_o lord_n will_v show_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v his_o prayer_n even_o as_o he_o confess_v in_o the_o next_o psalm_n 21.2_o psalm_n 21.2_o thou_o have_v give_v he_o his_o heart_n desire_v and_o have_v not_o deny_v he_o the_o request_n of_o his_o lip_n where_o he_o do_v also_o add_v this_o note_n selah_n to_o show_v that_o as_o before_o they_o do_v earnest_o pray_v for_o it_o so_o now_o they_o shall_v be_v great_o affect_v in_o thanksgiving_n with_o it_o and_o as_o they_o have_v a_o feel_n of_o their_o want_n in_o pray_v for_o it_o so_o they_o shall_v have_v of_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o give_v thanks_n for_o the_o same_o and_o so_o both_o in_o the_o one_o and_o in_o the_o other_o to_o have_v their_o mind_n special_o move_v with_o that_o they_o say_v general_o wheresoever_o this_o be_v use_v word_n the_o general_a use_n of_o this_o word_n we_o must_v careful_o mark_v it_o and_o make_v some_o good_a use_n of_o it_o according_a to_o the_o matter_n where_o it_o be_v use_v for_o though_o the_o whole_a scripture_n be_v excellent_a in_o itself_o and_o in_o every_o part_n of_o it_o as_o be_v give_v by_o the_o inspiration_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n 3.16_o 2._o tim._n 3.16_o and_o be_v profitable_a to_o teach_v to_o convince_v to_o correct_v and_o to_o instruct_v in_o righteousness_n that_o the_o man_n of_o god_n may_v be_v absolute_a be_v make_v perfect_a unto_o all_o good_a work_n yet_o some_o part_n have_v more_o special_a use_n to_o we_o in_o some_o case_n than_o other_o and_o therefore_o some_o be_v commend_v unto_o we_o with_o the_o title_n of_o excellency_n as_o all_o the_o psalm_n common_o call_v of_o degree_n 120.1_o psalm_n 120.1_o or_o as_o other_o read_v it_o of_o excellency_n because_o in_o that_o shortness_n they_o contain_v some_o excellent_a matter_n so_o also_o in_o the_o same_o psalm_n some_o part_n may_v be_v of_o great_a use_n and_o of_o more_o note_n and_o observation_n for_o some_o cause_n than_o some_o other_o part_n of_o the_o same_o as_o here_o in_o this_o psalm_n though_o he_o commend_v the_o whole_a psalm_n unto_o they_o and_o whole_a matter_n of_o the_o same_o as_o appeareth_z by_o the_o title_n and_o inscription_n of_o the_o same_o and_o the_o whole_a discourse_n of_o it_o yet_o in_o it_o the_o matter_n of_o this_o verse_n he_o do_v special_o commend_v unto_o they_o for_o some_o cause_n with_o this_o mark_n or_o note_n than_o well_o know_v because_o it_o be_v in_o great_a use_n when_o he_o add_v selah_n so_o also_o in_o another_o psalm_n david_n commend_v one_o thing_n unto_o the_o more_o may_v we_o be_v assure_v of_o it_o david_n here_o in_o this_o psalm_n be_v privy_a to_o the_o goodness_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n that_o in_o sincerity_n and_o truth_n he_o desire_v to_o please_v god_n be_v bold_a to_o commend_v his_o desire_n unto_o the_o people_n that_o they_o may_v commend_v they_o to_o god_n man_n and_o such_o we_o may_v commend_v unto_o man_n that_o he_o will_v grant_v they_o if_o then_o we_o will_v have_v our_o prayer_n hear_v and_o also_o have_v any_o comfort_n in_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o for_o we_o let_v we_o have_v no_o wicked_a or_o ungodly_a desire_n nothing_o contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n for_o such_o desire_v we_o can_v neither_o ourselves_o commend_v unto_o god_n nor_o any_o other_o for_o we_o neither_o will_v he_o fulfil_v they_o if_o we_o shall_v and_o here_o that_o we_o may_v not_o wander_v and_o go_v astray_o in_o our_o desire_n to_o our_o own_o heart_n our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v direct_v we_o in_o that_o form_n of_o prayer_n which_o he_o teach_v his_o disciple_n in_o which_o we_o be_v teach_v first_o to_o pray_v for_o such_o thing_n as_o concern_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n us._n to_o this_o end_n we_o must_v follow_v that_o form_n that_o christ_n have_v teach_v us._n the_o advancement_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n here_o upon_o the_o earth_n and_o then_o for_o all_o outward_a thing_n appertain_v unto_o this_o life_n and_o for_o life_n itself_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o may_v stand_v with_o these_o and_o afterward_o for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o for_o power_n against_o our_o temptation_n that_o we_o be_v not_o overcome_v if_o then_o we_o pray_v after_o this_o manner_n god_n will_v hear_v we_o as_o it_o be_v say_v in_o another_o place_n seek_v you_o first_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n pray_v matth._n 6.33_o and_o seek_v for_o the_o direction_n of_o his_o spirit_n to_o teach_v we_o to_o pray_v and_o his_o righteousness_n and_o all_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v purpose_n as_o it_o be_v say_v here_o thus_o do_v our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n himself_o pray_v who_o when_o he_o be_v in_o such_o great_a agony_n that_o he_o say_v 26.38_o matth._n first_o of_o all_o desire_n those_o thing_n that_o may_v make_v for_o his_o glory_n &_o the_o salvation_n of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o our_o brethren_n but_o all_o outward_a thing_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o may_v stand_v with_o these_o and_o further_o they_o and_o so_o far_o will_v god_n grant_v they_o jacob_n when_o he_o go_v to_o laban_n make_v his_o prayer_n in_o the_o way_n after_o this_o manner_n earthly_a gen._n 28.20_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v that_o we_o prefer_v heavenly_a thing_n before_o earthly_a desire_v god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v with_o he_o and_o keep_v he_o in_o clothing_n now_o because_o his_o prayer_n be_v thus_o agreeable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o he_o first_o desire_v the_o continuance_n of_o his_o favour_n and_o then_o all_o thing_n needful_a for_o this_o life_n so_o far_o as_o it_o may_v stand_v with_o that_o god_n hear_v he_o and_o he_o confess_v it_o afterward_o in_o his_o return_n that_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n have_v be_v great_o upon_o he_o when_o he_o say_v pray_v chap._n 32.10_o and_o he_o have_v hear_v his_o servant_n that_o have_v thus_o pray_v i_o be_o unworthy_a of_o the_o least_o of_o all_o the_o mercy_n and_o all_o the_o truth_n which_o thou_o have_v show_v unto_o thy_o servant_n for_o with_o my_o staff_n come_v i_o over_o this_o jordan_n and_o now_o have_v i_o get_v two_o band_n the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v thing_n as_o to_o remove_v a_o great_a stone_n or_o some_o piece_n of_o timber_n if_o there_o be_v among_o they_o young_a man_n or_o woman_n and_o child_n and_o sick_a folk_n and_o such_o as_o can_v do_v little_a or_o nothing_o and_o but_o one_o strong_a man_n in_o their_o company_n like_a unto_o the_o great_a giant_n goliath_n or_o unto_o samson_n though_o all_o of_o they_o may_v help_v some_o thing_n yet_o this_o one_o by_o his_o great_a strength_n shall_v do_v so_o much_o that_o all_o that_o the_o other_o do_v shall_v not_o be_v discern_v and_o so_o all_o shall_v be_v ascribe_v unto_o he_o and_o he_o alone_o shall_v be_v say_v to_o do_v it_o because_o all_o of_o they_o can_v not_o have_v do_v it_o without_o he_o and_o they_o all_o do_v nothing_o in_o comparison_n of_o he_o and_o beside_o he_o may_v be_v of_o that_o great_a wisdom_n and_o so_o know_v the_o measure_n of_o his_o strength_n and_o what_o be_v fit_a for_o such_o a_o purpose_n that_o he_o may_v say_v while_o they_o be_v about_o it_o or_o before_o they_o begin_v now_o i_o know_v that_o the_o thing_n be_v overcome_v or_o as_o good_a as_o do_v when_o other_o shall_v fear_v that_o they_o shall_v do_v no_o great_a matter_n or_o be_v like_o never_o to_o prevail_v and_o so_o they_o shall_v not_o only_o obtain_v their_o purpose_n by_o his_o mean_n but_o by_o his_o word_n be_v encourage_v in_o the_o do_n of_o it_o yea_o comfort_v before_o they_o begin_v so_o be_v it_o when_o many_o of_o unequal_a faith_n pray_v together_o therefore_o as_o it_o be_v well_o for_o they_o that_o shall_v have_v such_o strong_a man_n in_o their_o company_n to_o labour_v with_o they_o so_o shall_v it_o be_v much_o more_o happy_a for_o those_o that_o shall_v have_v they_o that_o be_v now_o weak_a in_o faith_n to_o pray_v for_o they_o the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o that_o that_o befall_v the_o jew_n in_o the_o day_n of_o king_n hezekiah_n as_o it_o be_v set_v down_o in_o the_o second_o book_n of_o the_o chronicle_n 32.1_o 2._o chro._n 32.1_o where_o first_o it_o be_v say_v that_o saneherib_n king_n of_o ashur_n when_o he_o come_v up_o against_o jerusalem_n with_o a_o great_a host_n they_o be_v all_o afraid_a of_o his_o greatness_n but_o at_o last_o this_o good_a king_n get_v by_o prayer_n more_o assurance_n of_o faith_n than_o the_o rest_n and_o so_o bad_a his_o noble_n and_o people_n not_o fear_v he_o people_n verse_n 7._o hezekiah_n have_v assurance_n of_o god_n help_n for_o the_o comfort_n of_o all_o his_o people_n say_v be_v strong_a and_o courageous_a fear_v not_o neither_o be_v afraid_a for_o the_o king_n of_o asshur_n neither_o for_o all_o the_o multitude_n that_o be_v with_o he_o for_o there_o be_v more_o with_o we_o than_o be_v with_o he_o with_o he_o be_v a_o arm_n of_o flesh_n but_o with_o we_o be_v the_o lord_n our_o god_n to_o help_v we_o and_o to_o fight_v our_o battle_n and_o then_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o people_n be_v comfort_v by_o his_o word_n insinuate_v that_o they_o be_v waver_v and_o doubtful_a before_o now_o that_o he_o come_v to_o this_o assurance_n by_o prayer_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n though_o there_o be_v no_o mention_n of_o it_o in_o these_o word_n for_o beside_o that_o the_o lord_n do_v thus_o unusual_o give_v it_o as_o have_v be_v see_v before_o this_o good_a king_n in_o this_o distress_n we_o may_v be_v assure_v do_v not_o neglect_v it_o especial_o when_o afterward_o in_o the_o same_o chapter_n there_o be_v mention_v make_v of_o his_o prayer_n thus_o the_o king_n for_o himself_o and_o for_o the_o rest_n have_v this_o assure_v unto_o he_o that_o he_o know_v that_o god_n will_v help_v they_o so_o be_v not_o only_o comfort_v himself_o but_o comfort_v other_o in_o this_o great_a fear_n afterward_o it_o fall_v out_o that_o when_o the_o danger_n increase_v and_o his_o faith_n somewhat_o fail_v he_o receive_v this_o benefit_n of_o comfort_n in_o his_o fear_n from_o another_o even_o for_o the_o prophet_n isaijah_n for_o it_o be_v say_v 20._o and_o afterward_o the_o prophet_n have_v it_o for_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o king_n verse_n 20._o that_o after_o this_o the_o king_n of_o asshur_n send_v his_o captain_n rabsakeh_n who_o with_o great_a threaten_a and_o rail_v word_n seek_v to_o terrify_v the_o people_n who_o to_o that_o end_n cry_v out_o unto_o they_o upon_o the_o wall_n in_o the_o jewish_a language_n then_o hezekiah_n the_o king_n and_o isaiah_n the_o prophet_n pray_v against_o this_o and_o cry_v to_o heaven_n but_o it_o seem_v that_o the_o king_n for_o all_o this_o have_v yet_o no_o great_a assurance_n in_o himself_o that_o god_n will_v deliver_v he_o but_o isaiah_n that_o pray_v with_o he_o have_v it_o for_o he_o and_o for_o the_o rest_n and_o do_v comfort_v he_o for_o it_o be_v thus_o write_v of_o hezehiah_n that_o he_o go_v into_o the_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o pray_v and_o send_v messenger_n to_o the_o prophet_n to_o desire_v he_o 19.1_o 2._o king_n 19.1_o that_o he_o will_v do_v so_o to_o and_o so_o he_o do_v and_o thereupon_o send_v he_o this_o message_n which_o assurance_n god_n give_v he_o by_o prayer_n for_o the_o rest_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o fear_v his_o word_n 10._o verse_n 10._o for_o he_o will_v send_v a_o blast_n upon_o he_o and_o he_o shall_v hear_v a_o noise_n and_o shall_v return_v into_o his_o own_o land_n and_o there_o he_o shall_v die_v by_o the_o sword_n as_o it_o also_o come_v to_o pass_v and_o here_o though_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n to_o who_o god_n show_v many_o thing_n extraordinary_o yet_o he_o prepare_v he_o for_o that_o work_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o prayer_n be_v one_o special_a mean_n to_o make_v we_o fit_a to_o receive_v any_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n here_o it_o be_v say_v that_o he_o pray_v and_o have_v this_o assurance_n and_o so_o here_o in_o this_o distress_n many_o pray_v together_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n only_o for_o all_o the_o rest_n say_v now_o know_v i_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v and_o help_v us._n but_o before_o this_o i_o shall_v have_v place_v the_o example_n of_o that_o good_a king_n jehoshaphat_n which_o be_v set_v down_o also_o in_o the_o same_o book_n of_o the_o chronicle_n both_o because_o it_o be_v before_o this_o in_o order_n of_o time_n and_o especial_o because_o it_o be_v most_o fit_a for_o this_o purpose_n rest_n 2._o chron._n 20_o 2._o jehoshaphat_n pray_v for_o thing_n wherein_o we_o have_v pray_v unto_o god_n so_o mark_v his_o deal_n towards_o we_o that_o we_o may_v see_v how_o he_o have_v turn_v our_o burn_a offering_n into_o ash_n that_o be_v how_o he_o have_v declare_v unto_o we_o that_o he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n that_o so_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o god_n benefit_n the_o more_o and_o he_o may_v be_v praise_v for_o they_o and_o ourselves_o and_o other_o be_v confirm_v in_o hope_n by_o experience_n through_o they_o turn_v thy_o burn_a offering_n into_o ash_n last_o concern_v these_o word_n whereas_o in_o they_o he_o teach_v general_o to_o pray_v thing_n we_o must_v not_o limit_v the_o hear_n of_o our_o prayer_n to_o any_o one_o particular_a thing_n that_o god_n will_v show_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o do_v not_o limit_v it_o to_o any_o particular_a thing_n as_o to_o say_v show_v it_o by_o do_v so_o and_o so_o but_o that_o concern_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v pray_v for_o he_o desire_v that_o he_o will_v show_v which_o way_n it_o please_v he_o that_o he_o have_v hear_v they_o and_o that_o he_o and_o they_o may_v as_o evident_o see_v it_o as_o those_o do_v who_o have_v their_o sacrifice_n consume_v with_o fire_n from_o heaven_n it_o teach_v we_o that_o in_o all_o outward_a thing_n especial_o we_o shall_v not_o tie_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o the_o hear_n of_o our_o prayer_n to_o any_o one_o special_a thing_n as_o to_o say_v if_o god_n will_v give_v i_o such_o a_o thing_n that_o i_o have_v pray_v for_o or_o deal_v so_o and_o so_o with_o i_o i_o will_v believe_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v my_o prayer_n but_o until_o i_o have_v that_o i_o can_v be_v persuade_v of_o it_o for_o in_o all_o thing_n we_o ought_v to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v give_v we_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o be_v his_o holy_a will_n as_o he_o know_v it_o to_o be_v good_a for_o we_o and_o for_o his_o glory_n and_o with_o these_o condition_n also_o must_v we_o pray_v for_o other_o so_o than_o if_o the_o lord_n see_v it_o not_o expedient_a for_o we_o and_o so_o do_v not_o give_v it_o we_o at_o all_o or_o when_o we_o will_v have_v it_o or_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o meaning_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o they_o for_o even_o as_o those_o that_o be_v sick_a of_o some_o hot_a pestilent_a burn_a fever_n or_o some_o other_o disease_n that_o distemper_v their_o brain_n when_o they_o ask_v any_o thing_n those_o that_o attend_v upon_o they_o will_v not_o give_v they_o that_o which_o they_o have_v name_v but_o some_o other_o thing_n in_o steed_n of_o it_o which_o be_v better_o for_o they_o in_o that_o case_n and_o in_o so_o do_v they_o give_v they_o according_a to_o their_o meaning_n for_o they_o do_v mean_a that_o that_o be_v best_a for_o they_o though_o they_o err_v then_o through_o distemperature_n or_o ignorance_n in_o the_o particular_a and_o so_o when_o they_o be_v well_o and_o can_v judge_v of_o thing_n themselves_o will_v confess_v so_o do_v the_o lord_n deal_v with_o his_o servant_n &_o so_o must_v we_o be_v content_v to_o be_v order_v by_o the_o lord_n that_o whatsoever_o we_o ask_v he_o will_v give_v we_o that_o which_o he_o know_v to_o be_v best_a for_o we_o and_o so_o give_v we_o according_a to_o the_o meaning_n of_o his_o spirit_n in_o we_o that_o so_o we_o may_v see_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n 12.8_o 2._o cor._n 12.8_o saint_n paul_n pray_v three_o time_n that_o the_o messenger_n of_o satan_n which_o buffet_v he_o may_v depart_v away_o from_o he_o and_o the_o lord_n hear_v his_o prayer_n but_o how_o he_o give_v he_o they_o then_o will_v we_o believe_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o otherwise_o not_o whereas_o the_o lord_n may_v no_o less_o show_n that_o he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o deny_v we_o both_o of_o they_o when_o he_o shall_v give_v we_o mind_n content_v with_o our_o estate_n and_o to_o wait_v upon_o his_o bless_a will_n in_o all_o our_o want_n we_o have_v now_o a_o long_a time_n pray_v unto_o god_n for_o this_o sickness_n and_o mortality_n and_o we_o desire_v to_o see_v that_o god_n have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n and_o so_o we_o may_v also_o though_o it_o be_v not_o lessen_v but_o increase_v yea_o though_o it_o shall_v come_v among_o we_o and_o be_v upon_o our_o own_o body_n plague_n so_o will_v he_o do_v in_o this_o visitation_n of_o the_o plague_n for_o in_o unto_o labour_v and_o strive_v therefore_o as_o when_o we_o strive_v for_o any_o matter_n of_o moment_n we_o will_v always_o put_v to_o our_o strength_n that_o we_o may_v do_v our_o best_a that_o we_o he_o pray_v the_o more_o earnest_o he_o pray_v always_o in_o the_o spirit_n but_o in_o this_o distress_n of_o body_n and_o mind_n he_o enlarge_v his_o affection_n as_o appear_v also_o by_o his_o word_n when_o three_o time_n he_o pray_v that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o cup_n may_v pass_v away_o from_o he_o cross_n chap._n 23.46_o and_o after_o that_o manner_n he_o pray_v upon_o the_o cross_n so_o afterward_o when_o he_o be_v upon_o the_o cross_n he_o cry_v with_o a_o loud_a voice_n father_n into_o thy_o hand_n i_o commend_v my_o spirit_n and_o when_o he_o have_v thus_o say_v he_o give_v up_o the_o ghost_n thus_o be_v at_o the_o last_o gasp_n as_o we_o say_v he_o strain_v himself_o to_o the_o uttermost_a not_o only_o in_o body_n but_o in_o mind_n and_o so_o earnest_o pray_v and_o declare_v his_o earnestness_n with_o the_o loud_a cry_n that_o he_o make_v that_o with_o it_o he_o spend_v all_o his_o strength_n in_o soul_n and_o body_n so_o that_o at_o the_o end_n of_o his_o prayer_n he_o give_v up_o the_o ghost_n and_o die_v pray_v so_o must_v we_o always_o watch_v in_o prayer_n as_o paul_n speak_v that_o be_v watch_v over_o our_o affection_n 6.18_o ephes_n 6.18_o that_o as_o any_o thing_n seem_v more_o needful_a so_o we_o more_o earnest_o desire_v that_o as_o if_o we_o have_v many_o suit_n to_o a_o nobleman_n and_o something_o do_v special_o concern_v we_o and_o wherein_o consist_v as_o we_o say_v our_o make_n or_o mar_n we_o will_v move_v he_o most_o earnest_o in_o that_o and_o as_o we_o will_v desire_v he_o to_o remember_v we_o in_o all_o thing_n so_o most_o of_o all_o and_o especial_o in_o such_o a_o thing_n so_o do_v david_n here_o he_o will_v the_o people_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o that_o god_n will_v send_v he_o help_v and_o strengthen_v he_o against_o his_o enemy_n yea_o &_o that_o god_n will_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o declare_v by_o the_o event_n that_o he_o have_v do_v so_o indeed_o and_o then_o he_o add_v selah_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v oh_o i_o pray_v you_o remember_v that_o especial_o and_o do_v not_o forget_v above_o all_o other_o to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v some_o way_n declare_v that_o he_o have_v hear_v our_o prayer_n so_o must_v we_o do_v in_o all_o thing_n when_o we_o pray_v to_o god_n plague_n thus_o must_v we_o pray_v for_o this_o plague_n as_o now_o we_o have_v many_o thing_n to_o pray_v for_o but_o among_o they_o this_o be_v the_o chief_a that_o we_o thus_o weekly_o twice_o in_o one_o day_n meet_v for_o even_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o he_o will_v forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n and_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o we_o through_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n and_o so_o stay_v in_o his_o bless_a time_n this_o heavy_a hand_n that_o so_o long_o and_o in_o so_o many_o place_n to_o the_o loss_n and_o destruction_n of_o so_o many_o thousand_o have_v lie_v grievous_o and_o uncomfortable_o upon_o we_o unto_o these_o prayer_n of_o we_o and_o when_o we_o come_v to_o this_o one_o thing_n must_v be_v add_v selah_n that_o be_v every_o one_o must_v pray_v for_o this_o most_o earnest_o for_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v teach_v we_o by_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o wicked_a judge_n what_o god_n but_o strain_v all_o our_o desire_n to_o the_o uttermost_a those_o that_o use_v to_o sleep_v at_o prayer_n or_o talk_v or_o have_v their_o mind_n otherwise_o occupy_v this_o doctrine_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o it_o can_v concern_v they_o one_o whit_n but_o those_o that_o be_v devout_a in_o prayer_n and_o the_o most_o devout_a of_o all_o that_o they_o will_v learn_v this_o as_o occasion_n shall_v serve_v to_o show_v their_o devotion_n in_o prayer_n to_o the_o uttermost_a and_o not_o think_v that_o always_o one_o kind_n of_o devotion_n be_v sufficient_a secondary_o when_o he_o teach_v they_o thus_o to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v show_v that_o he_o have_v favourable_o accept_v his_o prayer_n it_o we_o must_v think_v it_o a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o do_v any_o for_o it_o when_o we_o have_v it_o i_o beseech_v you_o do_v we_o enter_v serious_o into_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o of_o our_o own_o unworthines_n to_o say_v what_o a_o i_o thy_o heart_n 23.26_o prou._n 23.26_o so_o in_o our_o prayer_n most_o of_o all_o that_o we_o desire_v in_o our_o heart_n nothing_o but_o that_o that_o be_v just_a and_o lawful_a and_o according_a to_o his_o will_n god_n all_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n in_o prayer_n must_v be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o so_o again_o whatsoever_o we_o go_v about_o the_o mean_n that_o we_o use_v must_v be_v lawful_a and_o such_o as_o god_n may_v allow_v of_o that_o so_o in_o our_o prayer_n we_o may_v commend_v they_o unto_o god_n then_o may_v we_o bold_o pray_v god_n to_o fulfil_v they_o and_o desire_v other_o also_o to_o do_v so_o and_o they_o be_v so_o persuade_v of_o we_o by_o good_a proof_n may_v safe_o and_o with_o a_o good_a conscience_n thus_o pray_v for_o we_o though_o they_o know_v not_o all_o our_o heart_n desire_n and_o purpose_n for_o god_n have_v promise_v that_o whatsoever_o we_o ask_v according_a to_o his_o will_n he_o will_v grant_v it_o unto_o us._n and_o all_o the_o promise_n that_o be_v make_v unto_o prayer_n be_v thus_o to_o be_v understand_v and_o no_o otherwise_o as_o when_o christ_n say_v ask_v and_o it_o shall_v be_v give_v you_o seek_v and_o instinct_n and_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o direct_v he_o to_o ask_v according_a to_o his_o will_n and_o word_n than_o he_o hear_v and_o such_o we_o may_v bold_o desire_v other_o to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v grant_v so_o likewise_o it_o be_v say_v in_o the_o ten_o psalm_n 10.17_o psal_n 10.17_o lord_n thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o poor_a thou_o prepare_v their_o heart_n thou_o bende_v thy_o ear_n thereto_o where_o the_o prophet_n confess_v to_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o church_n that_o god_n be_v ready_a to_o hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o his_o poor_a saint_n but_o how_o when_o their_o heart_n by_o god_n spirit_n be_v prepare_v to_o desire_v good_a thing_n according_a to_o god_n will_v than_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o bend_v his_o ear_n and_o the_o more_o that_o our_o heart_n be_v thus_o prepare_v
prayer_n even_o that_o it_o be_v a_o inward_a desire_n of_o the_o heart_n unto_o god_n for_o some_o thing_n which_o he_o that_o be_v the_o only_a searcher_n of_o the_o heart_n know_v and_o so_o be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v which_o be_v so_o to_o be_v understand_v not_o that_o we_o shall_v use_v no_o word_n at_o all_o in_o prayer_n for_o they_o be_v sometime_o necessary_a as_o not_o only_a when_o many_o pray_v together_o that_o one_o shall_v speak_v out_o aloud_o that_o the_o rest_n may_v hear_v and_o say_v amen_o but_o even_o many_o time_n when_o we_o pray_v alone_o by_o ourselves_o that_o by_o our_o speech_n our_o mind_n may_v be_v stir_v up_o and_o also_o keep_v upon_o that_o that_o we_o speak_v but_o even_o then_o the_o substance_n of_o our_o prayer_n be_v in_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o our_o word_n be_v but_o sign_n to_o testify_v and_o declare_v the_o same_o chief_a though_o word_n be_v use_v yet_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o hart_n be_v the_o chief_a so_o that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o true_a prayer_n at_o all_o without_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o there_o may_v be_v very_o effectual_a prayer_n without_o word_n and_o when_o in_o prayer_n both_o do_v concur_v word_n and_o desire_n god_n respect_v this_o late_a more_o than_o the_o former_a and_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n do_v cry_v loud_o in_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n than_o all_o the_o word_n that_o we_o can_v use_v be_v they_o never_o so_o many_o and_o so_o vehement_a and_o though_o desire_v without_o word_n be_v effectual_a yet_o word_n without_o the_o desire_n prayer_n at_o all_o among_o they_o and_o beside_o all_o they_o in_o our_o day_n who_o in_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n have_v their_o mind_n otherwise_o occupy_v than_o about_o that_o that_o be_v marie_n say_v in_o her_o song_n he_o have_v fill_v the_o hungry_a with_o good_a thing_n 1.53_o luk._n 1.53_o and_o send_v away_o the_o rich_a empty_a where_o she_o confess_v that_o those_o who_o desire_v good_a thing_n of_o god_n earnest_o as_o the_o hungry_a and_o thirsty_a desire_n meat_n and_o drink_n those_o he_o fill_v and_o bestow_v plentiful_o upon_o they_o unto_o their_o contentment_n but_o they_o that_o be_v rich_a and_o full_a as_o it_o be_v in_o their_o own_o opinion_n and_o so_o desire_v nothing_o of_o god_n as_o they_o shall_v they_o receive_v nothing_o but_o be_v send_v away_o as_o empty_a as_o they_o come_v and_o this_o be_v so_o certain_a that_o in_o prayer_n god_n look_v into_o the_o heart_n whole_o that_o it_o that_o be_v move_v to_o desire_v earnest_o though_o we_o speak_v not_o a_o word_n it_o be_v sufficient_a he_o know_v well_o enough_o what_o we_o pray_v for_o and_o will_v grant_v it_o as_o soon_o as_o though_o we_o have_v use_v all_o the_o word_n that_o may_v be_v to_o persuade_v for_o thus_o it_o be_v say_v of_o hannah_n when_o she_o pray_v in_o the_o temple_n because_o she_o be_v barren_a she_o speak_v in_o her_o heart_n her_o lip_n do_v move_v only_o 1.13_o 1._o sam._n 1.13_o but_o her_o voice_n be_v not_o hear_v and_o when_o hely_n think_v that_o she_o have_v be_v drunken_a because_o he_o see_v her_o lip_n move_v but_o hear_v no_o nay_o my_o lord_n but_o i_o be_o a_o woman_n trouble_v in_o spirit_n and_o have_v pour_v out_o my_o soul_n before_o the_o lord_n then_o he_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o she_o that_o he_o will_v grant_v she_o this_o petition_n that_o she_o have_v make_v in_o her_o heart_n without_o word_n and_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o and_o give_v she_o a_o manchild_n which_o she_o pray_v for_o as_o herself_o do_v afterward_o confess_v thus_o we_o see_v that_o god_n hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o heart_n when_o there_o be_v no_o word_n as_o on_o the_o contrary_a he_o care_v not_o for_o all_o the_o word_n that_o can_v be_v use_v without_o this_o desire_n after_o this_o manner_n also_o do_v nehemiah_n pray_v and_o be_v hear_v for_o when_o he_o be_v wait_v at_o the_o king_n table_n for_o he_o be_v his_o butler_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o ill_a news_n which_o he_o hear_v of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n a_o little_a before_o it_o be_v perceive_v that_o his_o countenance_n be_v more_o sad_a than_o it_o be_v wont_a to_o be_v in_o former_a time_n and_o the_o king_n ask_v he_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o see_v that_o he_o be_v not_o sick_a and_o say_v certain_o it_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o sorrow_n so_o undoubted_o true_a that_o god_n in_o prayer_n look_v to_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o heart_n 8.26_o rom._n 8.26_o that_o it_o be_v say_v that_o when_o we_o know_v not_o what_o to_o pray_v as_o we_o ought_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n itself_o make_v request_n for_o we_o with_o sigh_n that_o can_v be_v express_v and_o he_o that_o search_v the_o heart_n know_v what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o he_o make_v request_n for_o the_o saint_n according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n so_o that_o when_o we_o for_o pain_n of_o body_n or_o grief_n of_o mind_n can_v speak_v one_o word_n aright_o than_o the_o very_a sigh_n and_o
groan_n which_o be_v stir_v up_o in_o we_o the_o lord_n acknowledge_v and_o answer_v we_o according_a to_o they_o therefore_o we_o must_v hearken_v to_o the_o exhortation_n of_o the_o apostle_n and_o practice_v that_o 6.18_o ephe._n 6.18_o pray_v always_o with_o all_o manner_n prayer_n and_o supplication_n in_o the_o spirit_n and_o watch_v thereunto_o with_o all_o perseverance_n and_o experience_n see_v then_o that_o prayer_n be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v and_o not_o of_o the_o lip_n and_o of_o the_o tongue_n so_o much_o every_o one_o that_o come_v unto_o prayer_n must_v especial_o labour_v in_o this_o one_o point_n that_o he_o may_v bring_v his_o heart_n unto_o god_n and_o not_o to_o stand_v so_o much_o upon_o word_n prayer_n if_o we_o have_v good_a desire_n the_o want_n of_o fit_a word_n must_v not_o hinder_v we_o from_o prayer_n and_o this_o must_v be_v no_o bar_n unto_o any_o to_o keep_v they_o from_o prayer_n to_o say_v i_o have_v no_o fit_a word_n i_o can_v utter_v my_o mind_n well_o i_o have_v a_o good_a heart_n but_o my_o speech_n be_v naught_o etc._n etc._n for_o first_o of_o all_o if_o we_o be_v sufficient_o touch_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o want_n we_o shall_v have_v word_n enough_o to_o utter_v the_o same_o for_o all_o experience_n show_v that_o every_o one_o can_v complain_v well_o enough_o to_o the_o understanding_n of_o man_n of_o any_o thing_n wherein_o they_o be_v grieve_v be_v they_o never_o so_o simple_a as_o the_o poor_a creature_n that_o be_v that_o be_v pinch_v with_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n can_v ask_v bread_n and_o meat_n and_o no_o man_n need_v to_o instruct_v he_o what_o word_n he_o shall_v use_v in_o such_o a_o case_n and_o if_o any_o be_v oppress_v they_o can_v sufficient_o lay_v open_a their_o wrong_n we_o see_v that_o young_a child_n can_v do_v that_o and_o almost_o natural_a fool_n then_o assure_o if_o we_o have_v that_o inward_a sight_n and_o feel_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o want_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n that_o we_o shall_v have_v we_o shall_v have_v word_n enough_o to_o utter_v the_o same_o unto_o god_n and_o to_o pour_v out_o our_o whole_a mind_n unto_o he_o and_o to_o say_v good_a lord_n give_v i_o this_o and_o give_v i_o that_o therefore_o let_v we_o first_o labour_n for_o that_o and_o then_o the_o other_o his_o pain_n and_o fear_n than_o be_v so_o great_a that_o it_o be_v more_o like_o the_o chatter_a of_o a_o crane_n and_o the_o confuse_a noise_n of_o a_o dove_n than_o any_o thing_n else_o yet_o in_o begin_v or_o speak_v one_o word_n to_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v they_o otherwise_o they_o can_v not_o pray_v in_o faith_n and_o so_o neither_o please_v god_n therein_o nor_o look_v for_o any_o thing_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o he_o why_o then_o do_v he_o himself_o say_v and_o teach_v they_o also_o to_o say_v not_o only_o we_o know_v but_o now_o i_o know_v that_o god_n will_v help_v sure_o to_o this_o end_n to_o show_v that_o as_o he_o have_v faith_n in_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v hear_v he_o indeed_o so_o he_o have_v it_o in_o measure_n and_o it_o increase_v in_o he_o by_o degree_n increase_v by_o continue_v in_o prayer_n our_o assurance_n of_o be_v hear_v increase_v as_o it_o do_v in_o all_o other_o man_n therefore_o as_o he_o be_v direct_v to_o make_v this_o prayer_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n so_o when_o he_o come_v to_o this_o part_n of_o it_o it_o do_v special_o show_v forth_o itself_o in_o the_o assurance_n of_o faith_n find_v that_o though_o they_o have_v some_o good_a measure_n of_o faith_n in_o god_n promise_n and_o feel_v of_o his_o love_n in_o the_o beginning_n yet_o by_o continuance_n in_o prayer_n the_o same_o be_v great_o enlarge_v and_o increase_v in_o they_o so_o that_o it_o be_v more_o at_o the_o midst_n than_o at_o the_o first_o in_o so_o much_o that_o then_o they_o can_v say_v with_o great_a freedom_n open_a the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o one_o who_o by_o faith_n after_o earnest_a prayer_n may_v see_v into_o that_o help_n that_o god_n have_v promise_v in_o his_o word_n and_o comfort_v they_o
