drive_v they_o to_o leave_v the_o one_o because_o they_o be_v at_o their_o meat_n &_o such_o like_a yet_o they_o can_v give_v over_o the_o other_o but_o pursue_v it_o to_o the_o uttermost_a even_o how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v but_o you_o may_v observe_v it_o that_o the_o sing_n of_o ballad_n be_v very_o late_o renew_v and_o come_v on_o a_o fresh_a again_o so_o that_o in_o every_o fair_a and_o market_n almost_o you_o shall_v have_v one_o or_o two_o sing_v and_o sell_v of_o ballad_n &_o they_o be_v bring_v up_o a_o pace_n which_o though_o it_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v a_o small_a thing_n at_o the_o first_o yet_o i_o be_o great_o afraid_a of_o it_o for_o as_o when_o the_o light_n of_o the_o gospel_n come_v first_o in_o the_o sing_n of_o ballad_n that_o be_v rife_o in_o popery_n begin_v to_o cease_v and_o in_o time_n be_v clean_o banish_v away_o in_o many_o place_n so_o now_o the_o sudden_a renew_n of_o they_o and_o hasty_a receive_n of_o they_o every_o where_o make_v i_o to_o suspect_v lest_o they_o shall_v drive_v away_o the_o sing_n of_o psalm_n again_o see_v they_o can_v so_o hardly_o stand_v together_o of_o which_o i_o be_o so_o much_o the_o more_o jealous_a because_o i_o see_v that_o in_o other_o place_n also_o where_o these_o be_v not_o receive_v in_o decay_a what_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o sing_v of_o psalm_n be_v so_o decay_a yet_o the_o sing_n of_o psalm_n be_v great_o leave_v over_o that_o it_o have_v wont_a to_o be_v but_o if_o we_o will_v search_v out_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o evil_a disease_n in_o ourselves_o and_o other_o that_o so_o it_o may_v be_v cure_v we_o shall_v easy_o find_v it_o in_o those_o place_n of_o scripture_n where_o this_o duty_n have_v be_v commend_v unto_o we_o before_o for_o the_o apostle_n say_v to_o the_o ephesian_n 5.18_o ephes_n 5.18_o be_v not_o drink_v with_o wine_n wherein_o be_v excess_n but_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n 19_o speak_v one_o unto_o another_o in_o psalm_n and_o hymn_n and_o spiritual_a song_n sing_v and_o make_v melody_n to_o the_o lord_n in_o your_o heart_n 3.16_o coloss_n 3.16_o and_o to_o the_o colossian_n let_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n dwell_v in_o you_o plenteous_o in_o all_o wisdom_n teach_v and_o admonish_v one_o another_o in_o psalm_n and_o hymn_n and_o spiritual_a song_n sing_v with_o a_o grace_n unto_o the_o lord_n in_o your_o heart_n in_o which_o place_n he_o first_o of_o all_o forewarn_v we_o under_o one_o kind_n that_o we_o be_v not_o overfill_v with_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n but_o use_v they_o as_o though_o we_o be_v ready_a to_o leave_v they_o otherwise_o we_o be_v whole_o give_v to_o our_o belly_n and_o to_o our_o back_n shall_v have_v pleasure_n in_o nothing_o but_o such_o as_o will_v serve_v they_o &_o all_o heavenly_a mirth_n shall_v be_v sorrow_n unto_o we_o as_o to_o be_v call_v to_o the_o word_n and_o prayer_n it_o shall_v be_v a_o vexation_n unto_o we_o and_o then_o shall_v we_o be_v most_o merry_a when_o we_o be_v further_a off_o from_o god_n and_o then_o he_o say_v our_o mirth_n shall_v be_v excessive_a and_o beastly_a second_o he_o will_v have_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n dwell_v in_o they_o plenteous_o that_o be_v persuade_v of_o god_n favour_n their_o heart_n may_v not_o be_v vain_o merry_a but_o thereby_o move_v to_o sing_v unto_o he_o last_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n that_o shall_v prepare_v they_o to_o spiritual_a song_n for_o in_o our_o flesh_n dwell_v no_o good_a for_o as_o the_o flesh_n have_v no_o taste_n of_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o the_o spirit_n have_v no_o taste_n of_o carnal_a thing_n and_o therefore_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o spirit_n it_o will_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o all_o spiritual_a exercise_n therefore_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n that_o man_n be_v so_o barren_a in_o this_o thing_n see_v that_o they_o be_v so_o drown_v with_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n that_o they_o have_v no_o pleasure_n but_o in_o they_o and_o be_v too_o full_o of_o they_o there_o be_v no_o room_n in_o their_o heart_n for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o for_o his_o spirit_n of_o which_o they_o be_v empty_a and_o therefore_o can_v take_v no_o delight_n in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o word_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n so_o then_o howsoever_o the_o neglect_n of_o this_o duty_n may_v seem_v small_a in_o our_o eye_n yet_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v great_a when_o it_o bewray_v that_o we_o be_v void_a of_o god_n word_n and_o
of_o his_o spirit_n and_o that_o we_o be_v too_o much_o possess_v with_o the_o delight_n of_o this_o world_n and_o so_o lie_v in_o some_o one_o sin_n or_o other_o whereas_o on_o the_o contrary_a then_o may_v we_o be_v assure_v that_o our_o desire_n be_v to_o please_v god_n that_o willing_o we_o do_v not_o continue_v in_o any_o sin_n that_o we_o use_v the_o creature_n and_o blessing_n of_o god_n aright_o that_o the_o spirit_n be_v in_o we_o &_o govern_v we_o by_o the_o word_n when_o we_o find_v our_o heart_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o our_o mirth_n sweet_o move_v to_o sing_v spiritual_a song_n spiritual_o but_o to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o this_o matter_n that_o we_o may_v take_v upon_o we_o this_o duty_n so_o cheerful_o as_o we_o shall_v let_v we_o in_o a_o word_n consider_v of_o that_o which_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o it_o psal_n 147._o that_o i_o may_v not_o stand_v upon_o every_o place_n that_o commend_v it_o unto_o we_o praise_v the_o lord_n say_v he_o there_o for_o it_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n to_o sing_v unto_o our_o god_n 147.1_o psal_n 147.1_o for_o it_o be_v a_o pleasant_a thing_n and_o praise_n be_v comely_a where_o the_o prophet_n exhort_v man_n unto_o it_o comely_a to_o sing_v psalm_n be_v good_a pleasant_a and_o comely_a say_v it_o be_v good_a pleasant_a and_o comely_a and_o first_o of_o all_o it_o be_v good_a for_o it_o be_v command_v of_o god_n and_o look_v how_o many_o time_n it_o be_v commend_v unto_o we_o by_o precept_n or_o practice_n in_o the_o scripture_n so_o many_o proof_n be_v there_o of_o the_o goodness_n of_o it_o then_o it_o be_v and_o to_o sing_v praise_n unto_o which_o agree_v that_o of_o the_o apostle_n let_v no_o filthy_a communication_n 5.4_o ephe._n 5.4_o nor_o foolish_a talk_n nor_o jest_n proceed_v out_o of_o your_o the_o lord_n that_o it_o may_v not_o only_o come_v from_o the_o inward_a feel_n of_o their_o heart_n but_o also_o bring_v grace_n and_o profit_n to_o the_o hearer_n when_o as_o they_o do_v not_o utter_v a_o unprofitable_a sound_n but_o their_o heart_n go_v before_o their_o tongue_n and_o it_o move_v their_o lip_n they_o may_v themselves_o be_v first_o of_o all_o affect_a therewith_o and_o so_o beget_v the_o like_a affection_n in_o other_o see_v then_o that_o goodness_n pleasure_n and_o comeliness_n do_v all_o of_o they_o meet_v together_o in_o this_o one_o thing_n let_v we_o the_o rather_o be_v in_o love_n with_o it_o &_o set_v our_o heart_n upon_o it_o and_o whereas_o these_o be_v the_o thing_n most_o of_o all_o regard_v and_o especial_o seek_v for_o of_o all_o man_n and_o yet_o seldome_v find_v now_o that_o they_o do_v all_o of_o they_o meet_v with_o we_o as_o it_o be_v and_o joint_o offer_v themselves_o unto_o we_o in_o this_o one_o thing_n let_v we_o be_v ravish_v with_o the_o love_n of_o it_o unless_o we_o be_v man_n void_a of_o all_o affection_n or_o such_o as_o have_v set_v our_o heart_n upon_o other_o thing_n before_o and_o let_v we_o entertain_v this_o true_a pleasure_n that_o it_o afford_v and_o more_o comely_a with_o the_o excellent_a beauty_n that_o it_o will_v put_v upon_o us._n and_o so_o i_o conclude_v with_o the_o confession_n of_o augustine_n who_o by_o his_o own_o experience_n great_o commend_v the_o sing_n of_o psalm_n when_o he_o say_v 6._o august_n lib._n 9_o confess_v cap._n 6._o that_o oftentimes_o for_o joy_n he_o weep_v in_o the_o church_n of_o god_n be_v move_v with_o sweet_a melody_n that_o be_v make_v there_o and_o for_o this_o cause_n david_n be_v call_v the_o sweet_a singer_n of_o israel_n â—_o 2._o sam._n 23._o â—_o because_o of_o the_o excellent_a and_o heavenly_a psalm_n which_o he_o as_o a_o prophet_n make_v for_o the_o church_n of_o god_n 29.30_o 2._o chron._n 29.30_o whereby_o they_o be_v raise_v up_o to_o all_o spiritual_a mirth_n in_o sing_v of_o they_o the_o last_o thing_n of_o all_o be_v that_o we_o remember_v especial_o to_o put_v all_o thing_n in_o practice_n which_o we_o have_v learn_v out_o of_o the_o word_n day_n the_o work_n of_o mercy_n be_v to_o be_v practise_v upon_o this_o day_n and_o that_o we_o begin_v upon_o that_o very_a day_n to_o do_v all_o duty_n of_o love_n unto_o man_n and_o that_o we_o show_v mercy_n unto_o they_o then_o especial_o whereunto_o that_o we_o may_v be_v make_v the_o more_o fit_a the_o whole_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o the_o sabbath_n itself_o be_v ordain_v in_o so_o much_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v every_o whit_n of_o it_o to_o cease_v even_o upon_o the_o sabbath_n rather_o than_o mercy_n shall_v not_o be_v show_v to_o the_o full_a or_o any_o duty_n of_o it_o neglect_v to_o our_o brethren_n when_o both_o of_o they_o can_v be_v do_v together_o as_o we_o have_v see_v it_o before_o more_o at_o large_a and_o see_v it_o be_v the_o lord_n day_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v be_v occupy_v about_o all_o his_o work_n whole_o and_o he_o have_v in_o his_o word_n commend_v to_o our_o care_n the_o widow_n the_o fatherless_a the_o poor_a and_o the_o stranger_n as_o those_o who_o he_o especial_o regard_v we_o ought_v upon_o this_o day_n most_o of_o all_o to_o feed_v the_o hungry_a to_o clothe_v the_o naked_a to_o lodge_v the_o harborlesse_a to_o visit_v the_o sick_a and_o the_o prisoner_n when_o beside_o that_o we_o have_v rest_v from_o all_o our_o own_o work_n that_o we_o may_v be_v occupy_v about_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n we_o have_v so_o much_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n show_v unto_o we_o that_o we_o may_v show_v it_o unto_o other_o and_o he_o do_v after_o a_o extraordinary_a manner_n open_a unto_o we_o all_o the_o treasure_n of_o his_o goodness_n that_o thereby_o we_o may_v be_v move_v to_o take_v pity_n upon_o other_o so_o that_o he_o which_o be_v then_o hard_o heart_v to_o his_o brother_n there_o be_v no_o great_a pity_n to_o be_v look_v for_o at_o his_o hand_n and_o he_o which_o then_o neglect_v to_o testify_v his_o love_n abundant_o to_o man_n when_o he_o shall_v of_o purpose_n give_v over_o himself_o to_o all_o duty_n of_o godliness_n what_o hope_n can_v there_o be_v that_o he_o will_v do_v they_o upon_o other_o day_n in_o the_o week_n when_o he_o shall_v have_v few_o mean_n to_o further_o he_o
