reconciliation_n with_o god_n in_o their_o belief_n of_o the_o light_n and_o obedience_n thereunto_o and_o what_o can_v more_o hinder_v this_o universal_a gather_n than_o that_o particular_a narrow_a straighten_n limit_v principle_n of_o man_n of_o a_o pettish_a narrow_a heart_n and_o spirit_n who_o say_v that_o salvation_n never_o be_v be_v nor_o shall_v be_v possible_a unto_o the_o most_o part_n and_o a_o universal_a virtue_n and_o power_n to_o reach_v unto_o the_o whole_a man_n not_o only_o to_o cure_v the_o blindness_n of_o his_o understanding_n but_o the_o perverseness_n of_o his_o will_n and_o the_o depravednes_n of_o his_o affection_n it_o have_v not_o only_o a_o enlighting_a property_n but_o it_o have_v all_o these_o other_o property_n as_o to_o quicken_v to_o sanctify_v to_o purify_v to_o heal_v to_o mortify_v etc._n etc._n for_o it_o be_v the_o image_n of_o god_n it_o have_v its_o perfection_n answerable_a unto_o those_o which_o be_v in_o god_n so_o that_o as_o in_o god_n there_o be_v light_n life_n love_n goodness_n mercy_n righteousness_n wisdom_n power_n etc._n etc._n so_o in_o this_o light_n which_o come_v from_o he_o there_o be_v all_o these_o thing_n by_o way_n of_o participation_n or_o communication_n 2._o we_o do_v not_o understand_v this_o light_n and_o grace_n or_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n as_o separate_v from_o god_n or_o christ_n for_o that_o it_o be_v as_o impossible_a as_o to_o separate_v the_o beam_n from_o the_o sun_n for_o god_n and_o christ_n be_v one_o with_o the_o light_n that_o come_v from_o they_o forever_o yea_o as_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n be_v inseparable_a so_o be_v the_o light_n which_o come_v from_o they_o inseparable_a from_o both_o and_o according_o as_o we_o say_v there_o be_v a_o save_a light_n from_o the_o father_n of_o light_n and_o from_o jesus_n christ_n communicate_v unto_o all_o man_n and_o which_o be_v in_o all_o man_n so_o god_n and_o christ_n be_v together_o with_o this_o light_n in_o all_o man_n present_a with_o it_o and_o in_o it_o cooperate_a therewith_o for_o as_o christ_n say_v i_o can_v do_v nothing_o of_o myself_o and_o my_o father_n work_v hitherto_o and_o i_o find_v it_o fit_a to_o clear_v this_o matter_n for_o the_o undeceive_v the_o simple_a for_o indeed_o though_o the_o arminian_n and_o papist_n also_o speak_v of_o universal_a grace_n as_o give_v and_o offer_v unto_o all_o yet_o the_o thing_n be_v self_n which_o be_v the_o universal_a grace_n as_o to_o what_o it_o be_v indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n and_o in_o true_a manner_n and_o way_n of_o its_o operation_n they_o both_o deny_v and_o oppose_v it_o for_o asmuch_o as_o they_o both_o deny_v that_o the_o universal_a light_n which_o be_v give_v unto_o all_o it_o the_o light_a evangelical_a or_o a_o light_n for_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o rest_v in_o therefore_o they_o do_v not_o hold_v it_o forth_o as_o the_o immediate_a object_n of_o the_o christian_a say_v second_o they_o deny_v the_o way_n and_o manner_n of_o its_o operation_n to_o be_v by_o immediate_a revelation_n three_o they_o say_v this_o light_n come_v from_o christ_n but_o christ_n himself_o be_v not_o in_o man_n in_o the_o true_a seed_n of_o regeneration_n yea_o and_o the_o true_a and_o real_a indwel_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o divine_a seed_n and_o birth_n in_o the_o very_a saint_n they_o general_o deny_v as_o also_o that_o this_o divine_a seed_n and_o birth_n be_v a_o real_a substance_n or_o that_o the_o divine_a life_n be_v substantial_a or_o subsist_v in_o any_o substantial_a principle_n of_o its_o own_o nature_n and_o so_o i_o say_v true_o that_o both_o arminian_n and_o papist_n deny_v the_o true_a universal_a grace_n as_o to_o what_o it_o be_v indeed_o and_o as_o to_o the_o true_a way_n of_o its_o operation_n and_o therefore_o may_v be_v just_o put_v in_o the_o roll_n with_o other_o as_o unskilful_a physician_n through_o their_o ignorance_n of_o and_o opposition_n unto_o this_o divine_a touch_n the_o soul_n and_o will_n be_v so_o far_o liberate_v and_o free_v that_o it_o can_v follow_v that_o which_o draw_v it_o without_o which_o drawing_n of_o the_o father_n christ_n say_v no_o man_n can_v come_v unto_o he_o the_o which_o the_o lord_n be_v no_o way_n bind_v to_o continue_v for_o ever_o 6._o and_o therefore_o neither_o do_v we_o assert_v that_o man_n that_o have_v john_n the_o evangelist_n say_v concern_v he_o that_o he_o be_v the_o word_n which_o be_v in_o the_o beginning_n and_o be_v with_o god_n and_o be_v god_n that_o all_o thing_n be_v make_v by_o he_o and_o without_o he_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n make_v that_o be_v make_v and_o that_o in_o he_o be_v life_n and_o the_o life_n be_v the_o light_n of_o men._n in_o which_o word_n he_o declare_v two_o thing_n 1._o that_o general_a relation_n he_o have_v towards_o all_o the_o creature_n that_o he_o be_v their_o maker_n all_o thing_n be_v make_v by_o he_o second_o that_o special_a relation_n he_o thing_n even_o the_o manifestation_n of_o the_o light_n and_o spirit_n of_o his_o son_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o conscience_n which_o will_v have_v give_v they_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o of_o all_o his_o law_n and_o statute_n needful_a to_o be_v know_v by_o they_o have_v they_o improve_v the_o same_o aright_o and_o those_o that_o do_v improve_v it_o do_v both_o know_v the_o lord_n and_o his_o law_n and_o be_v justify_v through_o faith_n in_o he_o who_o outward_o be_v neither_o of_o jacob_n israel_n nor_o judah_n but_o gentile_n in_o other_o nation_n as_o have_v be_v show_v and_o see_v it_o have_v be_v so_o in_o time_n past_a why_o may_v it_o not_o be_v so_o now_o object_n 25._o if_o the_o light_n wherewith_o christ_n have_v enlighten_v every_o man_n be_v sufficient_a unto_o salvation_n than_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o outward_a with_o his_o obedience_n suffering_n and_o death_n be_v in_o vain_a answ._n this_o be_v also_o a_o false_a and_o senseless_a consequence_n ground_v upon_o a_o mere_a mistake_n as_o if_o the_o sufficiency_n of_o the_o light_n and_o grace_n of_o christ_n within_o do_v make_v void_a the_o use_n and_o benefit_n of_o his_o outward_a come_n obedience_n death_n and_o suffering_n or_o be_v to_o be_v set_v in_o opposition_n thereunto_o which_o be_v utter_o false_a for_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v set_v in_o opposition_n to_o each_o other_o as_o if_o the_o one_o do_v hinder_v the_o sufficiency_n or_o usefullness_n of_o the_o other_o both_o be_v sufficient_a and_o useful_a and_o necessary_a each_o in_o their_o own_o kind_n and_o way_n consummate_v and_o be_v consummate_v in_o one_o another_o beside_o this_o objection_n lie_v as_o much_o against_o the_o scripture_n for_o either_o the_o manifestation_n of_o god_n to_o the_o child_n of_o man_n before_o the_o scripture_n or_o any_o part_n of_o they_o be_v write_v be_v sufficient_a unto_o salvation_n or_o it_o be_v not_o if_o it_o be_v not_o no_o man_n before_o the_o scripture_n live_v can_v be_v save_v if_o it_o be_v than_o be_v the_o give_v of_o the_o scripture_n by_o this_o argument_n in_o vain_a a_o superfluous_a and_o useless_a thing_n object_n 26._o but_o if_o the_o light_n within_o be_v sufficient_a to_o teach_v and_o give_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n unto_o salvation_n then_o the_o scripture_n be_v in_o vain_a and_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o make_v use_n of_o outward_a teach_n by_o man_n or_o book_n or_o any_o outward_a mean_n what_o soever_o answ._n the_o vanity_n and_o unreasonableness_n of_o this_o consequence_n i_o have_v already_o show_v above_o and_o so_o need_v say_v the_o less_o to_o it_o here_o indeed_o the_o plain_a contrary_n be_v the_o true_a and_o most_o ingenuous_a consequence_n viz_o that_o because_o the_o light_n within_o be_v sufficient_a therefore_o the_o teach_n of_o man_n and_o book_n be_v profitable_a which_o can_v only_o profit_n as_o in_o the_o light_n they_o be_v receive_v and_o make_v use_v of_o and_o from_o the_o light_n do_v proceed_v and_o therefore_o all_o man_n who_o
