their_o dissimulation_n in_o impose_v upon_o the_o world_n by_o their_o counterfeit_a piety_n and_o for_o their_o injustice_n in_o assume_v that_o praise_n to_o themselves_o which_o be_v due_a only_o unto_o god_n chap._n xviii_o the_o end_n and_o drift_n of_o prayer_n etc._n etc._n and_o as_o our_o lord_n caution_v all_o man_n against_o vainglory_n in_o give_v alm_n so_o he_o likewise_o caution_v they_o but_o instead_o of_o affect_v any_o such_o popularity_n he_o will_v have_v you_o studious_o to_o avoid_v it_o by_o go_v in_o your_o closet_n and_o shut_v the_o door_n and_o with_o all_o possible_a privacy_n to_o pray_v to_o your_o father_n which_o be_v in_o secret_a and_o your_o father_n which_o see_v in_o secret_n shall_v reward_v you_o open_o not_o that_o our_o lord_n condemn_v public_a prayer_n which_o the_o church_n have_v practise_v ever_o since_o she_o have_v a_o be_v upon_o earth_n but_o rather_o than_o that_o you_o shall_v be_v think_v to_o pray_v for_o ostentation_n he_o will_v have_v you_o retire_v from_o all_o worldly_a company_n as_o jacob_n do_v when_o he_o wrestle_v with_o the_o angel_n gen._n 32.24_o and_o in_o your_o private_a prayer_n of_o which_o christ_n jesus_n speak_v s._n matth._n 6._o to_o be_v as_o private_a as_o you_o can_v to_o go_v into_o the_o most_o secret_a apartment_n and_o there_o unbosom_v yourself_o too_o god_n for_o though_o he_o himself_o be_v invisible_a yet_o he_o see_v you_o how_o secret_a soever_o you_o be_v and_o all_o that_o you_o do_v in_o secret_a and_o he_o that_o be_v thus_o the_o beholder_n of_o private_a devotion_n shall_v reward_v you_o before_o man_n and_o angel_n be_v content_a therefore_o that_o god_n look_v upon_o and_o esteem_v you_o that_o he_o be_v a_o witness_n of_o what_o you_o do_v see_v it_o be_v from_o he_o alone_o that_o you_o expect_v your_o reward_n but_o if_o in_o a_o duty_n wherein_o god_n glory_n be_v so_o near_o concern_v you_o take_v in_o so_o poor_a a_o accession_n as_o the_o praise_n of_o man_n it_o be_v but_o just_a that_o that_o shall_v be_v your_o reward_n and_o that_o you_o receive_v none_o other_o from_o god_n to_o who_o nothing_o can_v be_v more_o displease_v than_o to_o see_v ostentation_n interpose_v in_o your_o devotion_n and_o that_o therein_o you_o seek_v the_o applause_n of_o man_n more_o than_o his_o glory_n whereas_o in_o all_o your_o worship_n of_o god_n private_a or_o public_a your_o eye_n shall_v be_v still_o on_o his_o honour_n regard_v nothing_o so_o much_o as_o to_o have_v he_o approve_v your_o do_n because_o he_o only_o be_v able_a to_o reward_v they_o and_o though_o god_n glory_n be_v to_o be_v the_o first_o and_o principal_a end_n of_o your_o prayer_n yet_o in_o subordination_n to_o this_o you_o may_v also_o design_v your_o own_o benefit_n and_o that_o of_o other_o for_o these_o be_v very_o consistent_a and_o need_v not_o be_v separate_z for_o at_o the_o same_o time_n that_o you_o use_v prayer_n as_o a_o act_n of_o worship_n sole_o due_a unto_o god_n you_o may_v also_o use_v it_o as_o a_o mean_v appoint_v by_o he_o to_o obtain_v his_o blessing_n which_o be_v either_o spiritual_a or_o secular_a belong_v to_o your_o soul_n or_o body_n the_o first_o be_v grace_n holiness_n and_o pardon_v of_o sin_n in_o pray_v for_o which_o you_o may_v be_v peremptory_a and_o absolute_a but_o in_o pray_v for_o temporal_a blessing_n you_o be_v to_o be_v conditional_a and_o to_o use_v resignation_n and_o submission_n and_o in_o crave_v they_o never_o to_o design_n any_o thing_n that_o be_v mean_a and_o sordid_a and_o 1._o if_o you_o desire_v and_o god_n give_v you_o secular_a power_n and_o authority_n do_v not_o abuse_v or_o prostitute_v it_o to_o wicked_a unmanly_a purpose_n such_o as_o the_o gratify_n of_o your_o spleen_n and_o revenge_n and_o the_o oppression_n of_o those_o you_o hate_v but_o employ_v your_o authority_n in_o undo_v the_o heavy_a burden_n in_o protect_v the_o impetent_fw-la and_o he_o that_o have_v no_o helper_n in_o break_v the_o jaw_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o pluck_v the_o spoil_n out_o of_o their_o tooth_n in_o deliver_v the_o poor_a that_o cry_n and_o the_o fatherless_a and_o he_o that_o have_v none_o to_o help_v in_o short_a use_v the_o authority_n god_n give_v you_o in_o execute_v justice_n and_o maintain_v truth_n in_o be_v a_o terror_n to_o evil_a doer_n and_o a_o praise_n and_o encouragement_n to_o they_o that_o do_v well_o and_o
