pardon_v god_n show_v himself_o infinite_o just_a as_o well_o as_o merciful_a that_o he_o be_v merciful_a that_o be_v clear_a to_o every_o one_o but_o how_o do_v it_o appear_v he_o be_v so_o infinite_o just_a for_o that_o there_o be_v a_o clear_a text_n for_o it_o rom._n 3.26_o to_o declare_v at_o this_o time_n his_o righteousness_n that_o he_o may_v be_v just_a and_o the_o justifier_n of_o he_o which_o believe_v in_o jesus_n so_o that_o god_n in_o the_o justify_n of_o he_o that_o believe_v in_o christ_n be_v just_a as_o well_o as_o merciful_a now_o then_o poor_a sinner_n lay_v these_o together_o that_o god_n shall_v work_v so_o strange_o in_o bring_v about_o the_o pardon_n of_o thy_o sin_n in_o such_o a_o mysterious_a way_n as_o this_o be_v certain_o it_o do_v demonstrate_v that_o thou_o be_v a_o bless_a man_n i_o beseech_v you_o think_v of_o what_o have_v be_v say_v and_o lay_v it_o in_o your_o breast_n go_v away_o with_o this_o upon_o your_o spirit_n lord_n i_o indeed_o hear_v much_o of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n and_o that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a evil_n than_o ever_o i_o think_v it_o to_o be_v and_o now_o i_o have_v begin_v to_o hear_v of_o the_o mighty_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_n of_o sin_n i_o hope_v i_o shall_v for_o ever_o retain_v high_a thought_n of_o it_o than_o before_o brethren_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n that_o people_n have_v slight_a thought_n of_o than_o of_o the_o pardon_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n they_o think_v it_o a_o slight_a matter_n but_o if_o there_o be_v any_o work_n that_o ever_o take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n from_o all_o eternity_n and_o show_v god_n to_o be_v a_o god_n it_o be_v this_o about_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n this_o be_v a_o great_a doctrine_n the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o
though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o many_o and_o great_a but_o also_o such_o a_o covenant_n upon_o my_o come_n in_o that_o god_n will_v discharge_v all_o sin_n that_o shall_v be_v commit_v for_o time_n to_o come_v though_o i_o be_v ready_a to_o fall_v into_o sin_n daily_o yet_o i_o shall_v not_o come_v into_o condemnation_n o_o what_o will_v so_o infinite_o engage_v a_o gracious_a and_o ingenious_a spirit_n as_o this_o do_v sure_o nothing_o like_o this_o now_o if_o this_o be_v true_a that_o man_n that_o be_v forgive_v be_v thus_o forgive_v not_o only_o for_o time_n past_a but_o also_o for_o he_o may_v be_v change_v and_o thus_o the_o pardon_n of_o god_n differ_v from_o all_o other_o pardon_n a_o prince_n pardon_v a_o malefactor_n or_o a_o father_n a_o child_n but_o upon_o what_o term_n a_o prince_n expect_v his_o subject_n shall_v be_v change_v as_o far_o as_o he_o can_v discern_v and_o a_o father_n though_o never_o so_o tender_a will_v not_o pardon_v a_o child_n unless_o he_o come_v in_o and_o manifest_a a_o change_n of_o his_o disobedient_a spirit_n and_o then_o he_o pardon_v god_n do_v not_o pardon_v because_o we_o be_v change_v but_o that_o we_o may_v be_v change_v till_o a_o malefactor_n heart_n be_v change_v and_o he_o become_v a_o loyal_a subject_n and_o then_o pardon_v he_o god_n be_v not_o so_o in_o justify_v soul_n he_o justify_v the_o ungodly_a one_o that_o be_v ungodly_a come_n to_o he_o he_o justify_v this_o be_v a_o mighty_a argument_n i_o name_v it_o for_o this_o end_n because_o i_o will_v teach_v people_n that_o notwithstanding_o any_o sin_n be_o a_o great_a sinner_n and_o have_v a_o vile_a heart_n and_o i_o find_v not_o my_o nature_n change_v and_o therefore_o how_o dare_v i_o lie_v hold_v upon_o god_n grace_n for_o mercy_n and_o pardon_v yea_o thou_o may_v because_o god_n justify_v the_o ungodly_a though_o thy_o nature_n be_v not_o change_v and_o sanctify_a as_o thou_o say_v take_v it_o thus_o thou_o must_v lay_v hold_v of_o in_o lay_v hold_n on_o christ_n but_o now_o as_o justification_n be_v a_o great_a mystery_n so_o be_v faith_n and_o faith_n be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o ungodliness_n in_o he_o appear_v yet_o such_o a_o one_o may_v and_o have_v right_a to_o come_v unto_o god_n for_o pardon_n for_o god_n justify_v the_o ungodly_a rom._n 5.6_o christ_n die_v for_o and_o if_o one_o have_v offend_v you_o you_o pardon_v the_o offender_n but_o you_o that_o be_v offend_v do_v not_o purchase_v a_o pardon_n for_o the_o offender_n possible_a some_o friend_n may_v come_v and_o purchase_v a_o pardon_n at_o the_o king_n hand_n for_o a_o offender_n but_o the_o king_n himself_o do_v not_o purchase_v it_o yet_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o god_n god_n do_v not_o pardon_v any_o one_o sin_n but_o it_o cost_v god_n himself_o dear_a before_o he_o get_v it_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o such_o a_o slight_a thing_n to_o be_v pardon_v you_o must_v not_o think_v to_o go_v to_o need_n god_n have_v purchase_v a_o pardon_n for_o man_n can_v he_o not_o have_v forgive_v he_o by_o his_o absolute_a prerogative_n i_o answer_v there_o be_v need_v because_o of_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o justice_n he_o do_v purchase_v it_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o justice_n god_n be_v fain_o to_o lay_v down_o a_o price_n to_o justice_n before_o he_o himself_o can_v pardon_v one_o sin_n justice_n must_v be_v satisfy_v before_o he_o can_v give_v out_o one_o pardon_n well_o take_v all_o these_o together_o christ_n must_v be_v our_o surety_n take_v the_o debt_n upon_o himself_o and_o be_v in_o another_o yea_o a_o near_a union_n be_v make_v between_o christ_n and_o the_o soul_n and_o yet_o further_o it_o be_v by_o faith_n and_o yet_o boast_v be_v exclude_v and_o god_n be_v infinite_o merciful_a and_o yet_o infinite_o just_a and_o when_o he_o pardon_v one_o sin_n he_o lay_v in_o a_o pardon_n for_o all_o
sin_n for_o time_n to_o come_v justify_v the_o ungodly_a pardon_v sin_n yet_o purchase_v the_o pardon_n these_o eleven_o meditation_n about_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n make_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n put_v these_o together_o and_o then_o the_o result_n according_a to_o the_o point_n will_v be_v clear_a and_o full_a that_o bless_a be_v that_o man_n who_o sin_n be_v forgive_v and_o sure_o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o mysterious_a and_o glorious_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v sin_n that_o man_n for_o who_o god_n shall_v work_v such_o a_o glorious_a work_n be_v a_o bless_a man_n indeed_o and_o now_o have_v do_v with_o this_o argument_n of_o the_o great_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n in_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n i_o proceed_v to_o another_o and_o it_o be_v this_o chap._n iu._n that_o pardon_n of_o sin_n not_o only_o be_v a_o mercy_n in_o itself_o but_o the_o foundation_n of_o many_o other_o mercy_n argument_n pardon_v of_o sin_n make_v a_o mâ—â—_n mercy_n it_o be_v as_o the_o queen_n of_o mercy_n that_o have_v a_o great_a and_o glorious_a train_n of_o other_o mercy_n attend_v on_o she_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o very_a foundation_n of_o all_o the_o mercy_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n it_o be_v the_o principal_a mercy_n and_o the_o very_a foundation_n of_o all_o the_o mercy_n that_o be_v in_o the_o covenant_n and_o the_o inlet_n and_o open_n to_o they_o all_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v a_o rich_a treasury_n have_v abundant_a store_n of_o mercy_n in_o it_o and_o this_o open_v to_o they_o all_o the_o current_n of_o all_o god_n mercy_n be_v stop_v by_o man_n sin_n though_o god_n have_v a_o infinite_a ocean_n of_o mercy_n yet_o the_o source_n and_o vent_n of_o all_o god_n mercy_n be_v stop_v now_o when_o god_n pardon_v sin_n he_o take_v away_o the_o stop_n and_o open_v the_o sluice_n that_o his_o infinite_a grace_n and_o goodness_n may_v flow_v forth_o plentiful_o and_o sweet_o to_o the_o soul_n body_n and_o state_n yea_o to_o all_o that_o belong_v to_o a_o believer_n you_o may_v conceive_v god_n mercy_n to_o be_v as_o a_o infinite_a stream_n of_o goodness_n run_v with_o a_o full_a current_n towards_o his_o creature_n for_o god_n delight_v in_o the_o communication_n of_o himself_o to_o his_o creature_n but_o now_o man_n sin_n make_v a_o dam_n and_o stop_v the_o pipe_n that_o not_o one_o drop_n of_o mercy_n can_v come_v forth_o not_o a_o drop_n of_o all_o that_o mercy_n that_o in_o the_o eternal_a purpose_n of_o god_n he_o have_v appoint_v in_o time_n shall_v come_v forth_o to_o such_o and_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n but_o when_o he_o come_v to_o pardon_n and_o justification_n he_o pull_v out_o the_o plug_n and_o pull_v up_o the_o floodgate_n and_o sluice_n and_o then_o mercy_n come_v flow_v in_o amain_o when_o sin_n be_v pardon_v than_o the_o full_a stream_n of_o all_o the_o mercy_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n come_v flow_v into_o the_o soul_n well_o then_o if_o it_o be_v thus_o that_o pardon_n of_o sin_n be_v a_o inlet_n to_o other_o mercy_n then_o he_o that_o have_v his_o sin_n pardon_v be_v a_o very_a bless_a man_n i_o shall_v open_v this_o that_o pardon_v of_o sin_n be_v the_o foundation_n to_o and_o open_v the_o sluice_n to_o let_v in_o all_o other_o mercy_n jer._n 31.31_o behold_v the_o day_n come_v that_o i_o will_v make_v a_o new_a covenant_n with_o the_o house_n of_o israel_n and_o the_o house_n of_o judah_n here_o god_n open_v his_o goodness_n and_o tell_v they_o he_o will_v make_v a_o new_a covenant_n not_o like_o that_o he_o make_v with_o their_o father_n vers_fw-la 32._o but_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o covenant_n vers_fw-la 33._o and_o he_o instance_n in_o some_o particular_n i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n into_o their_o our_o justification_n and_o reconciliation_n it_o be_v not_o our_o humiliation_n no_o nor_o our_o sanctification_n observe_v it_o the_o very_a bottom_n and_o foundation_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o reconciliation_n it_o be_v neither_o of_o these_o though_o we_o ought_v to_o be_v in_o the_o use_n and_o exercise_v of_o they_o but_o pardon_v of_o sin_n be_v through_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n apply_v by_o faith_n this_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o our_o peace_n and_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n and_o thus_o man_n and_o woman_n shall_v seek_v their_o peace_n with_o god_n the_o main_a thing_n they_o shall_v lay_v the_o weight_n of_o obtain_v peace_n of_o god_n upon_o it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n apply_v the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n for_o pardon_n rather_o than_o any_o work_n of_o humiliation_n or_o sanctification_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n yet_o both_o these_o be_v sweet_a and_o comfortable_a when_o we_o find_v the_o bottom_n and_o main_a foundation_n of_o all_o our_o peace_n on_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n pardon_v our_o sin_n and_o justify_v of_o we_o through_o faith_n in_o christ_n cod_n do_v not_o say_v you_o that_o be_v great_a sinner_n stay_v till_o you_o be_v humble_v and_o be_v bring_v to_o hate_v sin_n and_o you_o shall_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n no_o you_o may_v be_v much_o trouble_v for_o sin_n and_o may_v leave_v it_o and_o reform_v in_o many_o thing_n and_o live_v better_a life_n than_o before_o and_o yet_o your_o peace_n not_o make_v up_o with_o god_n how_o then_o shall_v it_o be_v thus_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n look_v up_o to_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n for_o pardon_n of_o sin_n we_o come_v to_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a privilege_n but_o if_o you_o consider_v on_o the_o other_o side_n a_o creature_n not_o reconcile_v can_v look_v upon_o the_o infinite_a creator_n without_o terror_n and_o shake_n and_o tremble_n of_o spirit_n he_o can_v have_v any_o thought_n of_o god_n but_o he_o think_v of_o he_o as_o his_o enemy_n and_o that_o all_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n be_v work_v misery_n and_o ruin_n to_o he_o this_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n but_o when_o pardon_n of_o sin_n come_v god_n be_v reconcile_v and_o all_o fear_n and_o terror_n from_o the_o almighty_a be_v go_v those_o fear_n whereby_o the_o soul_n be_v afraid_a god_n be_v secret_o work_v ruin_n to_o it_o be_v dispel_v and_o if_o any_o judgement_n of_o god_n come_v close_a and_o near_o and_o befall_z any_o in_o the_o sight_n and_o hear_n of_o a_o guilty_a soul_n he_o will_v be_v think_v god_n be_v come_v to_o i_o next_o but_o a_o justify_v soul_n may_v say_v though_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n be_v never_o so_o terrible_a in_o the_o world_n and_o god_n promise_v to_o make_v all_o his_o goodness_n pass_v before_o he_o and_o exod._n 34.6_o he_o proclaim_v the_o lord_n the_o lord_n god_n merciful_a and_o gracious_a long-suffering_a and_o abundant_a in_o goodness_n and_o truth_n keep_v mercy_n for_o thousand_o and_o then_o to_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n forgive_a iniquity_n transgression_n and_o sin_n here_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n will_v you_o have_v a_o demonstration_n indeed_o that_o god_n heart_n be_v set_v upon_o this_o as_o the_o great_a work_n that_o ever_o be_v do_v take_v it_o in_o this_o that_o the_o very_a ghost_n be_v so_o much_o in_o it_o so_o the_o greatness_n of_o it_o that_o must_v have_v so_o high_a a_o person_n to_o witness_v it_o and_o indeed_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o satisfy_v until_o it_o have_v this_o special_a witness_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n it_o be_v true_a there_o may_v be_v probable_a argument_n draw_v by_o sign_n of_o god_n love_n unto_o we_o and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n may_v come_v in_o those_o sign_n but_o beside_o that_o there_o be_v the_o immediate_a witness_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o limit_v he_o to_o witness_v by_o sign_n only_o be_v more_o than_o any_o man_n can_v have_v warrant_n for_o and_o this_o i_o say_v further_o that_o all_o the_o sign_n of_o god_n favour_n that_o we_o can_v have_v will_v not_o satisfy_v the_o soul_n until_o there_o be_v this_o special_a work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n seal_v and_o witness_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n unto_o we_o 1_o joh._n 3._o there_o be_v many_o sign_n of_o god_n favour_n in_o that_o chapter_n verse_n 9_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o god_n do_v not_o commit_v sin_n and_o verse_n 19_o hereby_o we_o know_v we_o be_v of_o the_o truth_n and_o shall_v assure_v our_o heart_n before_o he_o and_o he_o that_o keep_v his_o commandment_n dwell_v in_o he_o and_o he_o in_o he_o that_o be_v another_o sign_n and_o verse_n 24_o but_o the_o conclusion_n of_o all_o be_v this_o hereby_o we_o know_v that_o he_o abide_v in_o we_o by_o the_o spirit_n which_o he_o have_v give_v we_o it_o be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n must_v convince_v &_o satisfy_v the_o soul_n of_o god_n love_n many_o there_o be_v that_o will_v fain_o have_v their_o sin_n pardon_v and_o will_v fain_o have_v some_o sign_n of_o it_o and_o perhaps_o i_o may_v hereafter_o give_v some_o sign_n but_o now_o know_v that_o all_o the_o sign_n in_o the_o world_n will_v not_o serve_v to_o quiet_v the_o heart_n but_o that_o it_o may_v return_v again_o to_o its_o former_a doubt_n till_o god_n come_v to_o pacify_v the_o spirit_n by_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n for_o it_o be_v so_o great_a a_o matter_n where_o once_o the_o soul_n understand_v the_o infinite_a breach_n make_v between_o god_n and_o it_o by_o sin_n that_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v more_o than_o a_o ordinary_a work_n to_o assure_v the_o soul_n of_o god_n reconciliation_n to_o it_o and_o nothing_o can_v do_v it_o satisfactory_o but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n he_o must_v come_v to_o the_o soul_n to_o assure_v it_o of_o this_o thing_n perhaps_o the_o case_n of_o a_o poor_a soul_n be_v thus_o suppose_v a_o prisoner_n in_o goal_n lie_v bind_v in_o fetter_n for_o some_o great_a offence_n against_o his_o prince_n and_o some_o friend_n come_v and_o tell_v he_o there_o be_v hope_n of_o pardon_n oh_o say_v he_o it_o be_v too_o good_a news_n to_o be_v true_a well_o another_o come_v to_o the_o grate_n of_o the_o prison_n and_o tell_v that_o he_o hear_v from_o the_o court_n the_o king_n have_v seal_v pardon_n and_o put_v such_o a_o one_o name_n in_o this_o be_v some_o comfort_n but_o yet_o this_o free_v he_o not_o from_o fear_n and_o doubt_n but_o now_o suppose_v the_o favourite_n of_o the_o prince_n come_v from_o the_o king_n himself_o one_o that_o be_v of_o the_o king_n bedchamber_n and_o one_o to_o who_o the_o king_n open_v his_o whole_a soul_n and_o nothinâ—â—he_a king_n do_v but_o he_o be_v acquaint_v with_o it_o he_o come_v to_o this_o poor_a man_n and_o bid_v he_o be_v of_o good_a comfort_n i_o come_v from_o the_o king_n and_o bring_v you_o a_o pardon_n from_o he_o show_v it_o he_o and_o say_v there_o it_o be_v take_v it_o oh_o this_o revive_v his_o spirit_n when_o such_o a_o special_a messenger_n be_v send_v unto_o he_o so_o in_o this_o case_n i_o may_v compare_v all_o sign_n to_o be_v like_o some_o friend_n or_o other_o that_o go_v by_o the_o grate_n and_o speak_v of_o the_o happiness_n of_o such_o a_o man_n that_o he_o be_v pardon_v but_o the_o soul_n be_v under_o such_o blindness_n and_o fear_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n that_o god_n know_v it_o be_v no_o easy_a matter_n to_o persuade_v it_o of_o pardon_n but_o now_o god_n for_o the_o comfort_n of_o those_o that_o he_o intend_v good_a will_n unto_o send_v his_o own_o spirit_n that_o lie_v in_o his_o own_o bosom_n and_o know_v all_o his_o secret_n to_o declare_v the_o mind_n of_o god_n and_o to_o say_v to_o such_o a_o soul_n peace_n be_v to_o thou_o thy_o sin_n be_v forgive_v now_o this_o satisfy_v the_o soul_n but_o it_o may_v be_v here_o object_v how_o may_v i_o know_v it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o witness_n and_o not_o my_o own_o fancy_n or_o delusion_n of_o satan_n i_o answer_v as_o we_o know_v the_o sun_n by_o its_o own_o light_n so_o we_o may_v know_v the_o spirit_n by_o its_o own_o testimony_n and_o though_o there_o be_v may_v some_o ebb_n yet_o it_o will_v rise_v again_o there_o be_v such_o a_o witness_v work_n of_o the_o spirit_n by_o a_o kind_n of_o sweet_a and_o secret_a intercourse_n between_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n whereby_o god_n overpower_n all_o doubt_n and_o fear_n though_o i_o do_v not_o say_v every_o one_o have_v it_o in_o a_o like_o sensible_a measure_n yet_o this_o i_o say_v when_o this_o full_a assurance_n come_v although_o there_o may_v be_v doubt_n and_o many_o question_n before_o in_o the_o soul_n for_o fear_v of_o be_v delude_v for_o certain_o many_o be_v deceive_v and_o delude_v yet_o then_o the_o spirit_n overpower_n all_o doubt_n and_o fear_n and_o witness_n to_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v own_o work_n do_v not_o you_o say_v because_o some_o be_v delude_v with_o fancy_n that_o there_o be_v no_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n when_o as_o there_o be_v scarce_o any_o point_n in_o the_o gospel_n the_o scripture_n speak_v more_o about_o than_o this_o of_o the_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n indeed_o they_o that_o judge_v of_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n by_o humane_a reason_n and_o understand_v no_o further_o than_o that_o reach_v too_o and_o that_o be_v little_o acquaint_v with_o those_o converse_v that_o be_v between_o god_n and_o a_o believe_a soul_n they_o may_v slight_v this_o witness_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o you_o must_v know_v there_o be_v not_o any_o soul_n that_o have_v assurance_n he_o shall_v go_v to_o heaven_n but_o it_o be_v wrought_v on_o by_o a_o high_a supernatural_a and_o mysterious_a way_n and_o if_o there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n to_o evidence_n this_o to_o the_o soul_n but_o by_o some_o sign_n this_o will_v be_v no_o high_a evidence_n than_o by_o way_n of_o reason_n but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v as_o great_a be_v the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n god_n manifest_v in_o the_o flesh_n so_o also_o great_a be_v the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n god_n justify_v in_o the_o spirit_n god_n justify_v in_o the_o spirit_n be_v a_o great_a mystery_n christ_n incarnation_n be_v a_o great_a mystery_n so_o be_v a_o believer_n justification_n as_o well_o as_o christ_n incarnation_n so_o also_o the_o witness_n of_o justification_n be_v a_o great_a mystery_n and_o therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o look_v up_o high_o than_o for_o such_o sign_n as_o reason_n may_v reach_v unto_o and_o beg_v of_o god_n to_o reveal_v think_v it_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n for_o god_n to_o pardon_v you_o be_v very_o solicitous_a for_o the_o flesh_n what_o you_o shall_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o what_o you_o shall_v put_v on_o and_o for_o your_o estate_n how_o to_o get_v and_o increase_v in_o the_o world_n but_o to_o make_v up_o the_o record_n between_o god_n and_o your_o soul_n to_o get_v they_o discharge_v and_o the_o record_n of_o heaven_n cancel_v that_o be_v against_o you_o o_o how_o seldom_o do_v these_o thing_n take_v up_o your_o thought_n know_v you_o that_o be_v of_o such_o careless_a spirit_n about_o this_o great_a matter_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a aggravation_n of_o your_o sin_n that_o you_o be_v so_o careless_a about_o that_o great_a work_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v sin_n disproportion_n between_o your_o thought_n and_o god_n whereas_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a shall_v labour_v to_o work_v as_o god_n work_v and_o those_o thing_n that_o have_v take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n shall_v take_v up_o their_o heart_n whereas_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v even_o unworthy_a of_o a_o immortal_a soul_n take_v up_o your_o thought_n and_o those_o object_n that_o take_v up_o the_o thought_n &_o heart_n of_o god_n about_o pardon_v sin_n your_o own_o conscience_n can_v tell_v you_o be_v very_o little_a in_o your_o thought_n and_o heart_n certain_o my_o brethren_n be_v the_o thought_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n take_v up_o about_o this_o serious_a and_o great_a business_n of_o get_v pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n it_o will_v prevent_v and_o cure_v they_o of_o thousand_o of_o other_o vain_a slight_a foolish_a and_o wicked_a thought_n there_o be_v i_o suppose_v many_o of_o you_o begin_v to_o be_v sensible_a of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o base_a wander_a filthy_a unclean_a and_o wicked_a thought_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o you_o say_v o_o that_o we_o can_v but_o help_v ourselves_o against_o these_o wander_a vile_a and_o wicked_a thought_n sure_o this_o will_v be_v a_o great_a help_n if_o you_o will_v get_v your_o thought_n possess_v with_o serious_a subject_n it_o will_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o weight_n in_o it_o to_o help_v you_o against_o those_o light_n and_o vain_a thing_n your_o thought_n work_v about_o now_o of_o all_o subject_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o most_o serious_a about_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n how_o his_o infinite_a wisdom_n have_v wrought_v to_o reconcile_v himself_o to_o your_o soul_n in_o the_o bring_n about_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o make_v peace_n between_o himself_o and_o the_o child_n of_o man_n now_o if_o you_o will_v take_v up_o your_o thought_n about_o the_o great_a business_n of_o get_v pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n it_o will_v take_v off_o your_o thought_n from_o other_o thing_n suppose_v a_o man_n have_v a_o vain_a slight_a wander_a foolish_a heart_n yet_o if_o he_o be_v condemn_v to_o die_v some_o dreadful_a torment_a death_n his_o thought_n will_v quick_o be_v take_v off_o from_o other_o thing_n and_o take_v up_o about_o use_v mean_n if_o there_o be_v any_o possibility_n to_o deliver_v himself_o from_o death_n jerom_n in_o one_o of_o his_o epistle_n have_v this_o relation_n of_o one_o that_o be_v trouble_v with_o vile_a thought_n and_o he_o that_o he_o complain_v unto_o have_v this_o device_n i_o name_v it_o not_o to_o approve_v it_o but_o he_o have_v this_o device_n he_o bring_v the_o man_n to_o have_v a_o charge_n of_o a_o crime_n lay_v against_o he_o and_o cause_v he_o to_o be_v bring_v before_o a_o judge_n and_o put_v into_o prison_n and_o afterward_o he_o come_v to_o he_o and_o ask_v he_o how_o be_v it_o now_o with_o you_o do_v your_o vain_a thought_n still_o abide_v with_o you_o as_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v he_o give_v he_o they_o upon_o this_o and_o certain_o who_o ever_o you_o be_v who_o thought_n be_v not_o mighty_o take_v up_o about_o this_o great_a subject_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n you_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a and_o do_v not_o sanctify_v he_o in_o this_o great_a work_n of_o he_o and_o know_v this_o you_o that_o spend_v
to_o try_v and_o see_v whether_o god_n will_v extend_v his_o mercy_n further_o and_o further_o we_o tell_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o say_v to_o you_o the_o sin_n you_o have_v commit_v already_o be_v so_o grievous_a that_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o wonderful_a work_n of_o god_n to_o forgive_v they_o and_o what_o must_v you_o needs_o add_v more_o and_o more_o and_o tempt_v god_n slight_a thought_n man_n have_v about_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n many_o time_n why_o they_o be_v hold_v so_o long_o under_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n when_o god_n begin_v to_o work_v upon_o they_o and_o stir_v the_o conscience_n and_o lay_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n home_o upon_o it_o how_o long_o be_v they_o before_o they_o can_v have_v any_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n and_o in_o just_a judgement_n it_o be_v so_o because_o they_o have_v slight_a thought_n before_o of_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n i_o remember_v it_o be_v story_v of_o pompey_n when_o one_o of_o his_o captain_n come_v spirit_n of_o bondage_n and_o certain_o do_v we_o but_o know_v the_o greatness_n of_o this_o work_n how_o will_v sinner_n snatch_v at_o any_o opportunity_n or_o hint_n of_o god_n favour_n appear_v to_o they_o they_o will_v do_v as_o the_o servant_n of_o benhadad_n 1_o king_n 20.33_o diligent_o observe_v if_o any_o thing_n will_v come_v from_o he_o and_o hasty_o catch_v at_o it_o they_o watch_v that_o if_o any_o thing_n do_v come_v from_o he_o that_o do_v make_v any_o way_n to_o that_o which_o they_o seek_v after_o and_o do_v hasty_o catch_v at_o it_o so_o do_v a_o soul_n understand_v the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n what_o a_o great_a work_n it_o be_v he_o will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o have_v slight_a thought_n of_o it_o that_o he_o will_v come_v clothe_v in_o sackcloth_n and_o every_o sermon_n will_v be_v watch_v and_o inquire_v what_o have_v god_n speak_v any_o word_n to_o my_o soul_n or_o no_o and_o if_o any_o word_n fall_v from_o a_o minister_n concern_v this_o great_a business_n such_o a_o soul_n will_v catch_v greedy_o at_o it_o and_o lose_v no_o opportunity_n to_o embrace_v it_o psal_n 32._o be_v very_o remarkable_a to_o this_o purpose_n david_n find_v it_o a_o very_a hard_a thing_n to_o get_v pardon_n of_o his_o own_o sin_n vers_fw-la 4._o and_o he_o acknowledge_v it_o and_o god_n forgive_v he_o vers_n 5._o what_o follow_v vers_fw-la 6._o for_o this_o mistake_v that_o be_v the_o main_a prop_n of_o many_o carnal_a heart_n as_o it_o be_v read_v in_o some_o book_n at_o what_o time_n soever_o a_o sinner_n repent_v etc._n etc._n i_o know_v no_o such_o text_n of_o scripture_n it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v scripture_n tend_v that_o way_n that_o do_v not_o limit_v the_o time_n but_o no_o scripture_n do_v express_v it_o so_o many_o people_n run_v they_o be_v not_o make_v so_o sensible_a to_o you_o and_o therefore_o soul_n take_v hold_v of_o that_o which_o you_o can_v see_v or_o feel_v and_o be_v assure_v the_o other_o be_v there_o though_o they_o be_v not_o see_v if_o thou_o can_v take_v hold_n of_o one_o link_v of_o a_o chain_n and_o all_o the_o other_o be_v fasten_v to_o it_o thou_o may_v be_v able_a to_o draw_v the_o whole_a chain_n unto_o thou_o for_o by_o take_v hold_n of_o one_o link_n thou_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o whole_a though_o thou_o touch_v not_o the_o other_o so_o in_o the_o work_n of_o god_n grace_n they_o be_v as_o a_o link_n unite_v to_o one_o another_o and_o if_o you_o can_v lay_v hold_n of_o one_o link_v you_o may_v be_v assure_v of_o the_o other_o although_o you_o see_v they_o not_o it_o be_v with_o many_o in_o this_o point_n as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o ignorant_a man_n the_o physician_n tell_v he_o he_o must_v take_v such_o a_o thing_n that_o must_v have_v these_o and_o these_o ingredient_n in_o it_o and_o when_o the_o apothecary_n have_v mingle_v all_o it_o may_v be_v but_o one_o of_o these_o thing_n can_v be_v see_v in_o the_o colour_n and_o outward_a appearance_n perhaps_o some_o one_o syrup_n may_v take_v up_o all_o the_o colour_n in_o the_o outward_a part_n and_o when_o it_o be_v bring_v to_o he_o say_v he_o i_o must_v have_v so_o many_o ingredient_n in_o it_o and_o i_o see_v but_o one_o i_o but_o though_o you_o see_v but_o one_o yet_o there_o may_v be_v the_o efficacy_n of_o all_o in_o it_o though_o but_o one_o give_v the_o colour_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n though_o at_o the_o present_a some_o one_o appear_v yet_o there_o may_v be_v the_o efficacy_n and_o power_n of_o they_o all_o in_o the_o soul_n though_o there_o appear_v but_o one_o perhaps_o it_o be_v in_o this_o case_n as_o among_o many_o ingredient_n you_o can_v see_v and_o taste_v but_o one_o yet_o there_o may_v be_v the_o power_n of_o twenty_o there_o though_o neither_o see_v nor_o taste_v so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o the_o soul_n sometime_o it_o may_v be_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o grace_n to_o be_v see_v taste_v or_o feel_v and_o yet_o where_o that_o one_o be_v there_o be_v all_o the_o other_o so_o that_o that_o be_v one_o rule_n when_o you_o look_v for_o evidence_n and_o sign_n if_o you_o can_v find_v but_o one_o in_o your_o soul_n all_o be_v there_o as_o it_o be_v in_o sin_n where_o one_o sin_n have_v dominion_n over_o the_o soul_n though_o the_o other_o be_v not_o see_v yet_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o other_o sin_n have_v dominion_n over_o the_o soul_n too_o though_o some_o man_n live_v under_o the_o slavery_n of_o one_o sin_n more_o than_o another_o as_o one_o man_n under_o the_o power_n of_o covetousness_n another_o under_o the_o power_n of_o ambition_n or_o any_o other_o sin_n this_o man_n may_v be_v think_v to_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o but_o one_o sin_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v he_o be_v a_o slave_n to_o all_o sin_n every_o natural_a man_n that_o be_v out_o of_o christ_n be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o every_o sin_n he_o be_v a_o slave_n to_o the_o devil_n in_o every_o sin_n but_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o constitution_n of_o his_o body_n and_o for_o some_o outward_a respect_n he_o may_v refrain_v from_o some_o particular_a sin_n that_o do_v not_o so_o well_o suit_n with_o he_o whereas_o if_o it_o will_v serve_v for_o his_o own_o end_n and_o purpose_n he_o can_v as_o well_o commit_v any_o sin_n as_o that_o one_o this_o be_v a_o certain_a truth_n whosoever_o make_v not_o conscience_n of_o every_o sin_n he_o make_v conscience_n of_o none_o though_o he_o refrain_v from_o the_o practice_n of_o some_o other_o it_o be_v not_o out_o of_o conscience_n but_o for_o byend_n therefore_o he_o that_o be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o one_o sin_n be_v under_o the_o power_n of_o every_o sin_n many_o think_v all_o man_n be_v sinner_n and_o for_o their_o part_n they_o have_v but_o a_o few_o such_o a_o sin_n i_o can_v leave_v but_o i_o be_o free_a from_o all_o other_o do_v thou_o keep_v from_o all_o sin_n but_o one_o god_n will_v find_v thou_o under_o the_o power_n of_o every_o sin_n rule_n to_o help_v we_o in_o make_v use_n of_o the_o evidence_n before_o give_v the_o second_o rule_n be_v this_o when_o ever_o we_o have_v find_v any_o one_o evidence_n upon_o serious_a examination_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o now_o it_o appear_v not_o positive_o to_o the_o contrary_a at_o the_o present_a but_o thou_o be_v mere_o dubious_a of_o those_o thing_n that_o heretofore_o thou_o have_v feel_v because_o thou_o do_v not_o feel_v they_o now_o in_o this_o case_n we_o may_v and_o shall_v have_v recourse_n to_o what_o god_n have_v wrought_v heretofore_o and_o build_v upon_o the_o former_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n upon_o we_o true_a it_o be_v when_o we_o come_v to_o give_v evidence_n in_o our_o ministry_n of_o those_o that_o have_v grace_n we_o may_v meet_v at_o such_o a_o time_n with_o they_o as_o that_o they_o have_v sense_n of_o nothing_o and_o in_o such_o a_o condition_n as_o that_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o know_v their_o own_o heart_n nor_o feel_v any_o work_n upon_o they_o now_o if_o it_o be_v mere_o from_o want_n of_o sense_n and_o that_o the_o contrary_a positive_a evil_n appear_v not_o but_o only_o the_o want_n of_o feel_v of_o what_o thou_o have_v and_o feel_v heretofore_o thou_o be_v to_o have_v recourse_n to_o the_o day_n of_o old_a as_o david_n often_o speak_v that_o he_o will_v remember_v the_o day_n of_o old_a it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v say_v some_o hypocrite_n have_v think_v they_o have_v be_v in_o this_o condition_n they_o have_v have_v many_o slash_n and_o yet_o they_o have_v prove_v naught_o how_o can_v we_o have_v recourse_n to_o what_o be_v before_o when_o god_n do_v work_v upon_o i_o i_o can_v indeed_o remember_v when_o god_n do_v draw_v my_o heart_n and_o then_o i_o think_v i_o can_v have_v close_v with_o any_o evidence_n out_o of_o the_o word_n i_o feel_v such_o work_n in_o my_o heart_n but_o i_o may_v do_v all_o that_o and_o yet_o all_o be_v but_o in_o hypocrisy_n i_o answer_v that_o certain_o the_o bare_a want_n of_o sense_n be_v not_o ground_n enough_o for_o i_o to_o think_v that_o all_o be_v in_o hypocrisy_n for_o this_o consider_v if_o i_o groan_v under_o it_o as_o under_o a_o affliction_n and_o will_v fain_o feel_v those_o former_a manifestation_n i_o have_v former_o and_o that_o i_o can_v take_v little_a comfort_n in_o my_o present_a case_n and_o that_o my_o soul_n be_v continual_o long_v and_o pant_v after_o the_o work_n of_o god_n grace_n that_o i_o heretofore_o have_v if_o this_o be_v so_o and_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o the_o contrary_a thou_o fall_v not_o off_o to_o sin_n or_o to_o the_o world_n to_o satisfy_v thy_o soul_n in_o sinful_a way_n and_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v yet_o pant_v after_o god_n if_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o thou_o thou_o may_v take_v the_o comfort_n of_o what_o thou_o have_v before_o and_o feed_v upon_o it_o as_o provision_n lay_v up_o before_o hand_n for_o thy_o soul_n as_o if_o thou_o have_v it_o present_a but_o hypocrite_n that_o fall_v off_o from_o the_o visitation_n of_o god_n spirit_n they_o fall_v not_o off_o only_o to_o a_o want_n of_o sense_n of_o those_o former_a moving_n and_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o their_o heart_n come_v to_o be_v satisfy_v with_o something_o else_o and_o they_o take_v up_o with_o some_o other_o contentment_n and_o it_o be_v not_o a_o want_n of_o feel_v only_o of_o what_o they_o have_v heretofore_o but_o their_o heart_n run_v out_o from_o god_n into_o other_o way_n of_o sin_n and_o wickedness_n so_o it_o be_v with_o hypocrite_n but_o thou_o have_v this_o testimony_n that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o
preach_v morality_n and_o mere_o the_o way_n of_o duty_n and_o never_o come_v to_o make_v they_o see_v clear_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o i_o appeal_v unto_o you_o who_o be_v they_o that_o most_o quiet_a and_o settle_v your_o conscience_n and_o satisfy_v your_o spirit_n be_v they_o not_o those_o preacher_n that_o open_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n certain_o those_o preacher_n that_o show_v you_o what_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v be_v the_o only_a man_n that_o quiet_a and_o satisfy_v conscience_n and_o it_o be_v a_o truth_n that_o nothing_o can_v do_v it_o but_o that_o you_o that_o be_v christian_n how_o shall_v you_o then_o labour_v to_o get_v a_o further_a insight_n into_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o instead_o of_o other_o discourse_n less_o useful_a let_v this_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o your_o discourse_n the_o difference_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o the_o blessing_n of_o this_o covenant_n and_o that_o this_o be_v the_o covenant_n that_o we_o must_v depend_v upon_o notwithstanding_o our_o weakness_n and_o now_o i_o be_o speak_v of_o this_o covenant_n that_o weakness_n may_v stand_v with_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n many_o that_o have_v carnal_a heart_n may_v be_v ready_a to_o abuse_v it_o take_v notice_n how_o dear_a the_o comfort_n of_o your_o soul_n cost_v god_n and_o god_n will_v have_v his_o minister_n to_o comfort_v you_o though_o the_o reveal_n of_o such_o thing_n will_v endanger_v many_o a_o man_n soul_n god_n be_v content_a to_o hazard_v the_o damnation_n of_o other_o man_n to_o comfort_v you_o for_o certain_o those_o thing_n that_o we_o speak_v for_o your_o comfort_n will_v be_v the_o damnation_n of_o many_o other_o grace_n think_v thus_o o_o lord_n must_v the_o comfort_n of_o my_o soul_n cost_v so_o dear_a and_o that_o for_o my_o comfort_n many_o soul_n be_v hazard_v who_o by_o take_v occasion_n to_o sin_n abuse_v that_o grace_n that_o be_v reach_v forth_o to_o i_o and_o so_o be_v like_o eternal_o to_o perish_v o_o then_o what_o need_n have_v i_o to_o make_v good_a use_n of_o this_o grace_n that_o come_v to_o i_o with_o the_o hazard_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o so_o many_o other_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v bring_v some_o precious_a balsam_n to_o apply_v to_o a_o wound_n and_o tell_v he_o there_o be_v not_o one_o drop_n of_o it_o but_o cost_v a_o thousand_o pound_n at_o least_o will_v not_o this_o be_v high_o prize_v now_o when_o we_o come_v and_o show_v you_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v comfort_v your_o heart_n and_o satisfy_v your_o soul_n we_o must_v reveal_v such_o thing_n that_o not_o only_a cost_n much_o but_o the_o least_o dram_n of_o gospel-comfort_n cost_v that_o which_o be_v of_o infinite_a worth_n and_o it_o be_v valuable_a two_o way_n first_o every_o drop_n of_o the_o balsam_n of_o the_o gospel_n cost_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n but_o beside_o this_o the_o very_a reveal_n of_o it_o must_v cost_v the_o damnation_n of_o many_o soul_n and_o yet_o god_n be_v content_a to_o venture_v that_o that_o you_o may_v be_v comfort_v we_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n come_v and_o preach_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o we_o think_v many_o will_v be_v harden_v by_o it_o and_o grow_v it_o and_o hereby_o we_o see_v how_o precious_a these_o comfort_n be_v therefore_o you_o have_v need_v to_o prize_v they_o and_o not_o cast_v they_o off_o as_o suppose_v a_o captain_n for_o the_o save_n of_o the_o life_n of_o two_o or_o three_o man_n shall_v venture_v the_o life_n of_o a_o thousand_o man_n mere_o to_o save_v the_o life_n of_o two_o or_o three_o be_v not_o these_o man_n life_n certain_a assurance_n of_o it_o many_o poor_a creature_n be_v cry_v out_o and_o say_v if_o i_o have_v faith_n of_o assurance_n and_o a_o full_a persuasion_n my_o sin_n be_v pardon_v i_o can_v be_v comfort_v but_o because_o they_o have_v not_o attain_v to_o a_o full_a persuasion_n and_o assurance_n they_o think_v they_o have_v no_o grace_n at_o all_o but_o there_o may_v be_v faith_n in_o the_o assurance_n there_o may_v be_v a_o faith_n of_o adherence_n that_o be_v when_o the_o soul_n stick_v to_o christ_n and_o can_v give_v itself_o unto_o and_o venture_v itself_o upon_o christ_n for_o pardon_n of_o sin_n life_n and_o salvation_n that_o be_v faith_n of_o adherence_n suppose_v in_o seek_v my_o evidence_n many_o of_o they_o be_v take_v from_o the_o effect_n and_o friut_n of_o faith_n i_o can_v find_v they_o and_o so_o can_v put_v forth_o a_o reflect_v act_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o be_v faith_n of_o assurance_n yet_o i_o may_v at_o that_o time_n have_v a_o faith_n of_o adherence_n thou_o may_v feel_v thy_o heart_n stick_v to_o christ_n and_o thou_o may_v venture_v thy_o soul_n on_o christ_n that_o faith_n will_v save_v thou_o though_o you_o have_v not_o a_o faith_n of_o assurance_n that_o be_v though_o you_o can_v find_v such_o evidence_n whereby_o you_o may_v draw_v up_o such_o a_o conclusion_n or_o make_v up_o such_o a_o judgement_n that_o you_o be_v pardon_v yet_o if_o you_o have_v a_o faith_n of_o adherence_n that_o you_o can_v stick_v to_o ghrist_n and_o venture_v your_o soul_n on_o he_o for_o life_n and_o salvation_n and_o all_o that_o be_v good_a that_o faith_n will_v save_v you_o and_o therefore_o upon_o examination_n of_o your_o evidence_n when_o you_o can_v get_v up_o to_o such_o act_n of_o faith_n as_o assurance_n be_v live_v then_o by_o a_o faith_n of_o adherence_n stick_v to_o christ_n say_v here_o i_o will_v resolve_v to_o live_v and_o die_v venture_v on_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n now_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o do_v this_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o faith_n for_o if_o you_o can_v venture_v your_o soul_n on_o christ_n you_o will_v venture_v your_o estate_n on_o christ_n your_o name_n on_o christ_n and_o all_o that_o you_o have_v on_o christ_n and_o therefore_o remember_v if_o you_o have_v not_o a_o faith_n of_o assurance_n then_o venture_v yourselves_o on_o christ_n by_o a_o faith_n of_o adherence_n and_o comfort_n will_v come_v in_o that_o way_n eight_o if_o at_o any_o time_n you_o feel_v comfort_n from_o evidence_n flow_v in_o upon_o your_o soul_n and_o that_o you_o be_v able_a to_o apply_v the_o comfort_n to_o yourselves_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v speak_v to_o you_o by_o such_o and_o such_o sign_n of_o a_o pardon_a sinner_n take_v heed_n
it_o now_o for_o this_o be_v our_o time_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a work_n of_o our_o life_n not_o to_o cumber_v ourselves_o about_o many_o thing_n but_o about_o this_o one_o thing_n to_o work_v out_o our_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a this_o be_v the_o great_a work_n to_o seek_v to_o secure_v this_o blessing_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o foundation_n exercise_n of_o they_o so_o far_o as_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n good_a and_o commend_v they_o when_o that_o young_a man_n come_v to_o christ_n mar._n 10.21_o christ_n look_v upon_o he_o and_o love_v he_o though_o not_o with_o such_o a_o love_n as_o to_o save_v he_o and_o bring_v he_o to_o eternal_a life_n yet_o god_n do_v discover_v love_n to_o such_o a_o one_o therefore_o it_o be_v to_o some_o be_v to_o some_o purpose_n for_o in_o the_o stir_n of_o the_o common_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n god_n many_o time_n come_v in_o with_o save_v work_n for_o god_n work_v not_o upon_o man_n as_o upon_o stock_n or_o stone_n but_o god_n put_v they_o on_o by_o stir_v up_o the_o common_a work_n of_o his_o spirit_n and_o at_o that_o time_n when_o they_o be_v most_o in_o stir_v it_o be_v god_n usual_a way_n to_o come_v in_o with_o the_o save_a work_n of_o his_o spirit_n therefore_o it_o be_v not_o to_o no_o purpose_n that_o we_o be_v put_v on_o poor_a creature_n to_o do_v what_o they_o can_v the_o second_o caution_n be_v this_o that_o whatsoever_o any_o one_o do_v in_o seek_v after_o christ_n before_o he_o have_v union_n with_o christ_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v reckon_v on_o as_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o a_o gospel-work_n there_o be_v no_o preparatory_a work_n for_o the_o receive_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n though_o they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o we_o must_v follow_v after_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n now_o that_o that_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n sanctify_v he_o that_o have_v it_o and_o follow_v upon_o our_o union_n with_o christ_n though_o god_n use_v to_o carry_v on_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o way_n of_o legal_a terror_n humiliation_n and_o the_o like_a yet_o these_o be_v not_o the_o work_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o therefore_o this_o may_v help_v many_o a_o poor_a soul_n about_o terror_n of_o conscience_n and_o humiliation_n that_o be_v trouble_v that_o they_o never_o have_v those_o degree_n as_o other_o have_v why_o as_o they_o do_v not_o prepare_v and_o fit_v thou_o for_o christ_n so_o the_o want_n of_o they_o be_v no_o hindrance_n to_o the_o receive_n of_o christ_n the_o three_o caution_n be_v this_o that_o follow_v on_o the_o other_o that_o though_o you_o put_v yourselves_o upon_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n to_o the_o receive_n of_o christ_n yet_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o rest_v in_o any_o of_o those_o preparatory_a work_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o danger_n in_o that_o many_o soul_n mistake_v and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v it_o be_v in_o this_o the_o rest_a in_o something_o that_o they_o have_v do_v it_o may_v be_v god_n have_v awaken_v their_o conscience_n and_o they_o fall_v upon_o work_v upon_o humble_v and_o reform_v themselves_o and_o here_o they_o rest_v but_o this_o be_v a_o mistake_n you_o must_v not_o rest_v until_o you_o find_v you_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o until_o there_o be_v a_o union_n with_o christ_n and_o your_o soul_n the_o work_n be_v not_o therefore_o do_v because_o you_o be_v humble_v and_o reform_v and_o run_v another_o course_n to_o what_o you_o do_v before_o for_o rom._n 9.16_o it_o be_v not_o of_o he_o that_o will_v nor_o of_o he_o that_o run_v but_o of_o god_n that_o show_v mercy_n not_o not_o of_o he_o neither_o many_o think_v they_o have_v peace_n in_o their_o soul_n upon_o their_o good_a desire_n and_o endeavour_n when_o their_o heart_n be_v mighty_o stir_v and_o they_o wonderful_o enlarge_v than_o they_o make_v no_o question_n but_o all_o be_v do_v and_o they_o quiet_v their_o heart_n with_o that_o and_o think_v there_o be_v no_o further_a work_n to_o be_v do_v but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o not_o of_o he_o that_o will_v nor_o of_o he_o that_o run_v but_o of_o god_n that_o show_v mercy_n though_o we_o must_v will_n and_o we_o must_v run_v yet_o there_o may_v be_v run_v and_o strive_v to_o enter_v in_o and_o yet_o not_o enter_v this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a point_n to_o let_v we_o see_v all_o of_o we_o what_o need_v we_o have_v of_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o pardon_v of_o our_o sin_n four_o though_o god_n do_v not_o tie_v himself_o to_o come_v in_o to_o pardon_v upon_o these_o preparatory_a work_n go_v before_o yet_o it_o be_v worthy_a of_o the_o utmost_a there_o be_v enough_o in_o it_o to_o require_v the_o utmost_a endeavour_n of_o any_o one_o to_o be_v lay_v out_o can_v we_o do_v ten_o thousand_o time_n more_o than_o we_o can_v even_o the_o very_a possibility_n of_o obtain_v pardon_n be_v worth_a the_o call_n forth_o of_o all_o our_o strength_n know_v that_o the_o very_a possibility_n of_o have_v sin_n pardon_v be_v enough_o to_o set_v all_o your_o heart_n a_o work_n to_o seek_v after_o it_o though_o god_n do_v not_o tie_v himself_o to_o come_v in_o then_o and_o pardon_v it_o be_v not_o thus_o that_o god_n will_v have_v his_o creature_n seek_v unto_o he_o and_o
to_o that_o glorious_a name_n of_o god_n that_o appear_v in_o that_o mercy_n bestow_v on_o i_o so_o if_o i_o seek_v after_o god_n for_o a_o blessing_n than_o i_o reverence_v god_n name_n when_o there_o be_v such_o a_o disposition_n in_o my_o heart_n that_o be_v somewhat_o suitable_a to_o the_o glorious_a name_n of_o god_n that_o appear_v in_o that_o blessing_n so_o in_o endeavour_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o seek_v after_o pardon_n of_o sin_n thou_o do_v it_o then_o when_o there_o be_v such_o a_o frame_n in_o thy_o heart_n as_o may_v hold_v forth_o to_o man_n and_o angel_n that_o this_o work_n of_o thou_o have_v some_o kind_n of_o suitableness_n to_o the_o glorious_a name_n of_o god_n that_o appear_v in_o it_o this_o be_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v a_o great_a work_n this_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n for_o which_o thou_o be_v make_v and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n for_o which_o the_o counsel_n of_o god_n yea_o the_o deep_a counsel_n of_o god_n be_v set_v a_o work_n from_o all_o eternity_n now_o the_o disposition_n of_o our_o spirit_n must_v be_v such_o as_o may_v manifest_v the_o great_a end_n the_o wisdom_n and_o counsel_n of_o god_n have_v in_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o must_v be_v a_o great_a work_n that_o must_v manifest_v that_o for_o certain_o those_o who_o god_n pardon_v he_o make_v they_o understand_v what_o pardon_n mean_v now_o thâ—n_n if_o thy_o seek_n be_v such_o as_o that_o thou_o know_v what_o it_o be_v thou_o seek_v after_o than_o it_o must_v hold_v forth_o also_o that_o thou_o do_v understand_v the_o name_n of_o god_n be_v exceed_o glorious_a in_o it_o and_o then_o as_o thou_o do_v apprehend_v this_o so_o according_o thy_o heart_n will_v work_v after_o it_o and_o therefore_o when_o you_o be_v alone_o and_o you_o find_v your_o heart_n work_v this_o way_n say_v what_o do_v i_o do_v do_v i_o so_o call_v upon_o he_o and_o seek_v after_o he_o as_o that_o this_o work_n of_o i_o declare_v to_o god_n and_o my_o own_o conscience_n i_o seek_v for_o it_o so_o as_o that_o i_o may_v manifest_v the_o glorious_a name_n of_o the_o great_a god_n be_v in_o it_o certain_o if_o i_o do_v not_o do_v it_o thus_o i_o take_v god_n name_n in_o vain_a six_o further_n you_o must_v seek_v after_o it_o as_o if_o you_o be_v now_o to_o answer_v for_o all_o your_o sin_n before_o the_o lord_n as_o you_o will_v wish_v you_o have_v do_v it_o then_o so_o do_v it_o now_o i_o put_v it_o to_o every_o one_o of_o you_o have_v you_o not_o be_v on_o your_o sick-bed_n and_o in_o your_o apprehension_n near_o unto_o death_n have_v not_o god_n waken_v your_o conscience_n and_o you_o have_v be_v afraid_a upon_o the_o account_n of_o your_o sin_n what_o kind_n of_o temper_n your_o soul_n have_v be_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o you_o may_v bring_v as_o much_o glory_n unto_o god_n as_o he_o will_v have_v have_v of_o you_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v damn_v you_o for_o ever_o this_o be_v a_o excellent_a frame_n of_o spirit_n though_o you_o do_v not_o know_v it_o but_o though_o you_o do_v not_o yet_o you_o shall_v put_v yourselves_o upon_o such_o a_o kind_n of_o work_n and_o god_n may_v come_v in_o you_o cry_v out_o for_o pardon_n but_o never_o cry_v out_o for_o god_n honour_n o_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v lose_v by_o i_o and_o the_o dishonour_n i_o have_v bring_v to_o he_o say_v o_o lord_n i_o have_v dishonour_v thy_o name_n o_o that_o i_o may_v so_o honour_v thy_o name_n as_o i_o have_v dishonour_v it_o o_o lord_n thou_o may_v make_v up_o thy_o honour_n in_o my_o eternal_a damnation_n but_o o_o lord_n i_o will_v if_o i_o can_v do_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v make_v up_o that_o dishonour_n that_o i_o have_v bring_v by_o my_o
