persuade_v ourselves_o better_a thing_n of_o you_o and_o such_o as_o accompany_v salvation_n though_o we_o thus_o speak_v 10_o for_o god_n be_v not_o unrighteous_a that_o he_o shall_v forget_v your_o work_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n which_o you_o show_v towards_o his_o name_n in_o that_o you_o have_v minister_v unto_o the_o saint_n and_o yet_o minister_v for_o the_o earth_n etc._n etc._n verse_n 7_o it_o be_v a_o very_a fit_a similitude_n to_o move_v our_o affection_n to_o the_o desire_n of_o profit_v in_o due_a season_n for_o as_o the_o earth_n can_v bring_v forth_o good_a corn_n in_o this_o seed_n do_v bring_v forth_o a_o good_a and_o natural_a blade_n do_v always_o grow_v better_a and_o better_o till_o they_o bring_v forth_o ripe_a fruit_n contrariwise_o the_o earth_n which_o have_v be_v plough_v and_o water_v and_o yet_o bring_v forth_o nothing_o but_o thorn_n and_o brier_n give_v no_o hope_n to_o the_o reaper_n ver._n 8_o but_o which_o be_v worse_o the_o more_o that_o which_o be_v come_v forth_o grow_v the_o more_o be_v he_o leave_v hopeless_a and_o therefore_o the_o only_a remedy_n be_v that_o the_o labourer_n set_v this_o field_n on_o fire_n which_o be_v so_o apostle_n then_o in_o this_o place_n not_o only_o handle_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o still_o hold_v on_o his_o exhortation_n that_o we_o shall_v embrace_v the_o gospel_n with_o a_o cheerful_a and_o ready_a affection_n and_o that_o as_o soon_o as_o seed_v time_n be_v do_v there_o do_v by_o and_o by_o some_o fruit_n appear_v three_o that_o after_o much_o and_o often_o water_v increasing_n do_v follow_v whereas_o we_o have_v put_v meet_a herb_n or_o profitable_a other_o translate_v herb_n of_o season_n both_o signification_n agree_v well_o but_o the_o last_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o time_n the_o first_o to_o the_o qualitic_a as_o for_o the_o allegorical_a sense_n wherewithal_o expositor_n do_v please_v themselves_o i_o let_v they_o pass_v because_o they_o be_v far_o wide_a from_o the_o author_n meaning_n but_o belove_a we_o be_v persuade_v better_a of_o you_o etc._n etc._n verse_n 9_o because_o the_o former_a sentence_n be_v like_a thundering_n by_o which_o the_o reader_n may_v be_v overwhelm_v and_o altogether_o amaze_v it_o be_v needful_a now_o to_o allay_v this_o sharpness_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v that_o though_o he_o have_v thus_o speak_v it_o be_v not_o because_o he_o have_v conceive_v so_o hard_a a_o opinion_n of_o they_o and_o true_o whosoever_o he_o be_v that_o do_v indeed_o desire_v to_o profit_v by_o teach_v or_o exhort_v ought_v thus_o reprobate_n only_o but_o even_o the_o elect_a themselves_o and_o those_o who_o we_o account_v as_o the_o child_n of_o god_n for_o god_n be_v not_o unjust_a etc._n etc._n these_o word_n import_v as_o much_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v objection_n that_o of_o these_o good_a beginning_n he_o hope_v there_o will_v be_v a_o good_a end_n but_o here_o arise_v a_o difficulty_n for_o it_o seem_v as_o if_o he_o mean_v to_o say_v that_o god_n be_v behold_v unto_o man_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o they_o have_v do_v for_o he_o i_o hope_v well_o say_v he_o of_o your_o salvation_n why_o because_o god_n be_v not_o unrighteous_a that_o he_o shall_v forget_v your_o work_n by_o this_o it_o may_v seem_v that_o he_o build_v their_o salvation_n upon_o work_n and_o bring_v in_o god_n as_o one_o indebt_v unto_o they_o thus_o the_o sophister_n who_o oppose_v the_o merit_n of_o work_n to_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n do_v debate_v this_o point_n and_o insist_v upon_o it_o very_o much_o god_n say_v they_o be_v not_o unjust_a for_o from_o hence_o they_o gather_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v unjust_a with_o god_n if_o he_o give_v not_o to_o the_o merit_n of_o work_n the_o reward_n of_o eternal_a many_o place_n promise_v reward_n to_o work_n this_o depend_v upon_o his_o free_a promise_n by_o which_o he_o have_v adopt_v we_o for_o his_o child_n and_o reconcile_v we_o unto_o himself_o not_o impute_v our_o sin_n unto_o us._n reward_v then_o be_v appoint_v unto_o work_n not_o for_o any_o merit_n that_o be_v in_o they_o liberality_n reward_n be_v not_o give_v unto_o work_n for_o any_o merit_n but_o upon_o god_n mere_a liberality_n but_o by_o the_o mere_a liberality_n of_o god_n yea_o even_o this_o free_a recompense_n of_o work_n proceed_v from_o the_o free_a bounty_n and_o liberality_n of_o god_n have_v no_o place_n till_o we_o be_v receive_v into_o favour_n by_o the_o mean_n of_o christ_n we_o gather_v from_o hence_o then_o that_o god_n in_o do_v this_o pay_v nothing_o that_o christ_n be_v so_o rise_v again_o from_o the_o dead_a that_o yet_o notwithstanding_o his_o death_n be_v not_o abolish_v but_o hold_v his_o perpetual_a vigour_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v god_n have_v raise_v up_o his_o son_n but_o in_o such_o wise_a that_o the_o blood_n which_o he_o once_o shed_v in_o his_o death_n to_o confirm_v the_o eternal_a covenant_n cease_v not_o still_o to_o have_v
