of_o humane_a reason_n that_o many_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v such_o as_o can_v neither_o be_v discover_v nor_o when_o they_o be_v can_v be_v receive_v and_o applaud_v by_o the_o rational_a part_n of_o mankind_n it_o be_v not_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n nor_o of_o this_o world_n but_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n 5_o and_o 6_o verse_n the_o apostle_n do_v not_o go_v about_o to_o persuade_v the_o world_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o they_o in_o such_o a_o manner_n as_o the_o wise_a man_n among_o the_o gentile_n make_v use_v of_o to_o persuade_v the_o people_n of_o their_o opinion_n but_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o divine_a revelation_n they_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o by_o the_o demonstration_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o power_n i._n e._n by_o supernatural_a proof_n from_o ancient_a prophecy_n by_o uncontested_a miracle_n and_o such_o like_a testimony_n of_o god_n own_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v a_o revelation_n from_o he_o so_o that_o their_o faith_n do_v not_o stand_v in_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n but_o in_o the_o power_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v stumble_v nor_o think_v strange_a if_o matter_n of_o divine_a revelation_n shall_v be_v inconceivable_a by_o mere_a reason_n he_o let_v we_o they_o know_v that_o even_o this_o be_v foretell_v by_o the_o prophet_n verse_n 19_o for_o it_o be_v write_v by_o the_o prophet_n eye_n have_v not_o see_v nor_o ear_n hear_v nor_o have_v it_o enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n etc._n etc._n but_o god_n have_v reveal_v they_o to_o we_o by_o his_o spirit_n by_o which_o spirit_n christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n make_v know_v this_o doctrine_n and_o it_o follow_v the_o spirit_n search_v all_o thing_n even_o the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o though_o the_o thing_n be_v such_o as_o we_o never_o think_v of_o before_o and_o we_o can_v well_o conceive_v when_o they_o be_v tell_v we_o yet_o that_o be_v no_o such_o wonder_n for_o the_o nature_n of_o our_o own_o soul_n can_v be_v conceive_v by_o any_o inferior_a be_v nor_o our_o secret_a thought_n know_v by_o any_o other_o of_o our_o fellow-creature_n ver._n 11._o for_o what_o man_n know_v the_o thing_n of_o a_o man_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n within_o he_o and_o so_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n know_v no_o man_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n as_o we_o can_v know_v the_o secret_a purpose_n of_o other_o man_n till_o they_o themselves_o discover_v they_o so_o the_o council_n of_o god_n concern_v our_o salvation_n which_o depend_v mere_o upon_o his_o own_o will_n none_o can_v know_v but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o by_o some_o revelation_n from_o that_o spirit_n and_o not_o by_o natural_a reason_n for_o the_o spirit_n search_v all_o thing_n yea_o the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n i._n e._n be_v acquaint_v with_o all_o his_o secret_a counsel_n the_o great_a question_n therefore_o will_v be_v whether_o the_o revelation_n that_o contain_v such_o and_o such_o incredible_a doctrine_n be_v divine_a and_o according_o the_o apostle_n add_v in_o the_o next_o verse_n that_o he_o build_v his_o faith_n not_o upon_o the_o philosophy_n or_o invention_n of_o man_n but_o upon_o the_o revelation_n which_o god_n have_v make_v we_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o world_n but_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v of_o god_n that_o we_o may_v know_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v free_o give_v we_o of_o god_n these_o thing_n can_v never_o else_o have_v be_v know_v and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v not_o offend_v any_o that_o we_o do_v not_o endeavour_v to_o prove_v these_o doctrine_n by_o philosophical_a argument_n but_o by_o such_o as_o be_v proper_a to_o prove_v they_o by_o viz_o from_o divine_a revelation_n which_o thing_n also_o we_o speak_v not_o in_o the_o word_n which_o man_n wisdom_n teach_v but_o which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n teach_v compare_v spiritual_a thing_n with_o spiritual_a that_o be_v the_o revelation_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n with_o those_o of_o the_o new_a and_o after_o all_o he_o he_o tell_v we_o in_o the_o 14_o verse_n that_o the_o natural_a man_n who_o will_v believe_v nothing_o but_o according_a to_o his_o own_o preconceive_a notion_n from_o natural_a reason_n he_o receive_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o be_v foolishness_n to_o he_o he_o will_v not_o allow_v that_o to_o be_v divine_o reveal_v which_o be_v above_o mere_a natural_a reason_n he_o consider_v only_o the_o difficulty_n in_o the_o doctrine_n itself_o how_o it_o can_v be_v true_a not_o what_o reason_n he_o have_v to_o believe_v such_o a_o revelation_n to_o be_v from_o god_n and_o so_o he_o can_v know_v they_o because_o they_o be_v to_o be_v spiritual_o discern_v that_o be_v to_o be_v judge_v of_o by_o the_o revelation_n and_o testimony_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n and_o not_o by_o the_o mere_a light_n of_o reason_n they_o be_v to_o be_v receive_v upon_o the_o account_n of_o a_o divine_a revelation_n the_o the_o whole_a tenor_n of_o the_o apostle_n discourse_n seem_v to_o obviate_v or_o answer_v this_o objection_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v incredible_a and_o vnintelligible_a and_o if_o we_o apply_v it_o to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o trinity_n and_o the_o incarnation_n of_o christ_n it_o will_v hold_v good_a notwithstanding_o the_o difficulty_n how_o three_o can_v be_v one_o or_o how_o our_o bless_a saviour_n can_v be_v god_n and_o man._n how_o there_o be_v one_o divine_a nature_n or_o essence_n common_a unto_o three_o person_n unite_v in_o essential_a attribute_n and_o yet_o distinguish_v from_o each_o other_o in_o order_n and_o manner_n of_o subsistance_n and_o by_o peculiar_a idiom_n and_o relation_n these_o notion_n may_v puzzle_v our_o reason_n to_o conceive_v but_o shall_v not_o stagger_v our_o faith_n to_o believe_v as_o reveal_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n consider_v what_o god_n be_v and_o what_o we_o be_v it_o be_v unreasonable_a to_o reject_v any_o article_n of_o faith_n because_o we_o can_v full_o conceive_v the_o nature_n and_o manner_n of_o its_o being_n true_a shall_v we_o compare_v our_o darkness_n with_o his_o incomprehensible_a light_n or_o equal_a our_o understanding_n with_o his_o shall_v we_o refuse_v to_o believe_v what_o he_o have_v declare_v for_o truth_n unless_o we_o can_v reconcile_v it_o with_o our_o maxim_n what_o room_n be_v there_o leave_v for_o faith_n at_o this_o rate_n what_o credit_n be_v give_v to_o divine_a testimony_n if_o we_o believe_v nothing_o to_o be_v true_a in_o god_n word_n except_o we_o can_v fathom_n it_o and_o will_v otherwise_o believe_v without_o his_o testimony_n if_o we_o consider_v the_o imperfection_n of_o our_o understanding_n both_o as_o to_o the_o finite_a
