of_o god_n and_o aspire_v to_o the_o divine_a perfection_n thou_o see_v whither_o this_o inclination_n lead_v and_o what_o a_o symtom_n of_o destruction_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v and_o yet_o be_v thy_o case_n never_o so_o bad_a and_o desperate_a they_o that_o will_v habitual_o overlook_v that_o divine_a right_n and_o sovereignty_n and_o their_o necesssity_n of_o subjection_n and_o both_o from_o the_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n of_o the_o law_n and_o power_n of_o the_o lawgiver_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o wisdom_n nor_o happiness_n like_o they_o that_o cheerful_o obey_v must_v needs_o entangle_v themselves_o in_o these_o woeful_a consequence_n fall_v into_o the_o absurde_a sin_n that_o will_v but_o humour_n and_o gratify_v this_o proud_a inclination_n 3._o they_o forget_v god_n that_o be_v not_o prevail_o under_o the_o power_n of_o this_o thought_n that_o god_n be_v their_o happiness_n and_o that_o if_o all_o the_o world_n be_v they_o and_o god_n shall_v deny_v the_o light_n and_o beatifical_a presence_n of_o himself_o they_o can_v never_o find_v rest_n or_o satisfaction_n let_v the_o honour_n and_o majesty_n of_o a_o king_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o a_o kingdom_n cymbal_n alas_o the_o bias_n of_o a_o man_n soul_n be_v after_o something_o that_o the_o world_n have_v not_o something_o like_o itself_o and_o can_v be_v true_o satisfy_v with_o these_o thing_n because_o they_o have_v no_o proportion_n with_o itself_o they_o be_v flesh_n and_o that_o be_v spirit_n nor_o thorough_o comfort_v with_o these_o show_v because_o the_o time_n be_v at_o hand_n when_o it_o shall_v be_v true_o say_v as_o rachel_n say_v of_o her_o child_n they_o be_v not_o give_v the_o child_n that_o cry_v for_o the_o breast_n what_o you_o will_v and_o it_o give_v not_o over_o because_o this_o be_v the_o only_a thing_n it_o want_v the_o soul_n will_v never_o be_v still_o nor_o give_v over_o its_o mutter_n and_o complaint_n till_o it_o have_v the_o very_a thing_n that_o full_o supply_v its_o want_n and_o that_o only_o be_v god_n and_o they_o that_o live_v not_o under_o the_o power_n of_o this_o persuasion_n will_v run_v after_o every_o shadow_n and_o be_v entice_v into_o mortal_a sin_n and_o yet_o at_o last_o lose_v their_o labour_n and_o hope_n and_o all_o this_o because_o they_o forget_v that_o god_n be_v their_o rest_n and_o that_o their_o happiness_n be_v bind_v up_o in_o he_o jog_v thyself_o a_o little_a and_o consider_v what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v god_n but_o to_o have_v all-sufficiency_n and_o to_o have_v all_o satisfy_v ravish_a excellency_n in_o the_o great_a transcendency_n without_o any_o bound_n or_o end_n what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v god_n but_o to_o have_v all_o imaginable_a perfection_n and_o therefore_o to_o think_v we_o remember_v god_n when_o we_o forget_v those_o perfection_n which_o be_v his_o very_a be_v be_v a_o lie_n with_o a_o witness_n and_o will_v prove_v one_o with_o a_o vengeance_n if_o thou_o do_v not_o pray_v to_o god_n of_o it_o in_o thy_o practice_n why_o do_v thou_o withdraw_v from_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n when_o thou_o have_v some_o filthiness_n to_o commit_v which_o thou_o be_v ashamed_a they_o shall_v see_v or_o know_v why_o do_v thou_o shut_v thyself_o up_o in_o thy_o closet_n that_o there_o thou_o may_v hide_v thy_o vanity_n
among_o the_o forgetter_n of_o god_n word_n for_o faith_n or_o subjection_n to_o the_o person_n of_o christ_n and_o obedience_n to_o his_o law_n and_o abrenunciation_n of_o all_o that_o will_v hinder_v this_o subjection_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o obedience_n of_o our_o life_n be_v three_o great_a end_n for_o which_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v ordain_v and_o appoint_v and_o a_o high_a reverence_n of_o its_o authority_n and_o deep_a sense_n of_o its_o importance_n and_o firm_a persuasion_n of_o its_o certainty_n will_v most_o undoubted_o bring_v to_o pass_v for_o it_o be_v most_o purpose_n either_o in_o its_o understanding_n will_n or_o affection_n but_o by_o frequent_a serious_a and_o repeat_v acts._n the_o main_a difficulty_n therefore_o in_o the_o work_n of_o conversion_n and_o a_o save_a change_n on_o our_o part_n lie_v here_o in_o bring_v our_o thought_n to_o a_o devout_a and_o frequent_a meditation_n of_o these_o object_n which_o god_n have_v resolve_v shall_v do_v the_o work_n if_o ever_o it_o be_v do_v and_o though_o he_o can_v change_v the_o heart_n by_o a_o word_n and_o in_o a_o moment_n if_o he_o please_v yet_o he_o have_v tell_v we_o flat_o he_o will_v not_o do_v it_o ordinary_o without_o these_o mean_n and_o therefore_o he_o awaken_v every_o soul_n to_o such_o meditation_n who_o he_o will_v show_v mercy_n to_o a_o man_n thought_n be_v the_o mean_n that_o god_n make_v most_o use_n of_o in_o renew_v his_o heart_n do_v thou_o not_o presume_v whoever_o thou_o be_v that_o god_n will_v infuse_v sanctification_n into_o thy_o heart_n by_o a_o miracle_n when_o thou_o be_v think_v all_o the_o day_n yea_o all_o the_o week_n long_o upon_o mere_a vanity_n if_o not_o do_v worse_o but_o this_o by_o the_o way_n he_o that_o do_v not_o strike_v his_o heart_n into_o superlative_a reverence_n of_o this_o word_n by_o think_v often_o of_o that_o holy_a spirit_n by_o who_o it_o be_v word_n for_o word_n inspire_v will_v never_o be_v make_v fit_a to_o take_v bend_v to_o this_o word_n or_o have_v no_o quiet_a the_o heart_n be_v so_o prone_a to_o earth_n and_o vanity_n and_o the_o flesh_n with_o its_o affection_n and_o lust_n be_v so_o strong_a and_o masterless_a that_o they_o will_v never_o obey_v unless_o such_o authority_n be_v produce_v yea_o there_o be_v none_o that_o be_v well_o verse_v in_o their_o own_o heart_n but_o will_v find_v how_o they_o will_v slight_v such_o authority_n and_o sometime_o venture_v to_o contemn_v it_o but_o as_o he_o that_o do_v wise_o govern_v a_o family_n or_o other_o society_n much_o more_o a_o kingdom_n will_v not_o suffer_v his_o authority_n to_o be_v trample_v on_o nor_o his_o law_n to_o stand_v for_o cipher_n but_o will_v vindicate_v they_o with_o the_o great_a power_n and_o majesty_n that_o he_o can_v put_v on_o much_o more_o will_v the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n stand_v up_o in_o the_o behalf_n of_o his_o own_o authority_n and_o vindicate_v the_o best_a law_n that_o ever_o be_v make_v from_o contempt_n and_o if_o any_o sinner_n be_v so_o sottish_a as_o to_o think_v that_o his_o wit_n or_o pedigree_n or_o riches_n or_o esteem_v in_o the_o world_n will_v bear_v he_o out_o in_o such_o irreverence_n let_v i_o say_v to_o such_o a_o one_o as_o once_o samuel_n say_v to_o saul_n 1_o sam._n 15.16_o stay_v and_o i_o will_v tell_v thou_o what_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v of_o such_o own_o conscience_n will_v fall_v upon_o and_o condemn_v thou_o and_o if_o thou_o do_v read_v it_o yet_o if_o thy_o very_a heart_n be_v not_o affect_v with_o those_o matter_n in_o the_o word_n which_o more_o concern_v thou_o than_o all_o the_o world_n so_o as_o to_o show_v it_o in_o thy_o life_n i_o will_v not_o for_o all_o the_o world_n hear_v that_o judgement_n that_o thou_o shall_v short_o hear_v do_v it_o so_o much_o concern_v thou_o what_o thou_o shall_v eat_v and_o what_o thou_o shall_v drink_v and_o wherewithal_o thou_o shall_v be_v clothe_v and_o how_o thou_o shall_v sleep_v or_o enjoy_v thy_o health_n much_o more_o how_o thou_o shall_v visit_v this_o or_o that_o friend_n do_v this_o or_o that_o petty_a business_n as_o how_o thou_o shall_v save_v thy_o soul_n how_o thou_o may_v get_v thy_o heart_n affect_v with_o its_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o set_v a_o value_n upon_o christ_n as_o he_o deserve_v this_o be_v not_o easy_o do_v how_o thou_o may_v break_v off_o thy_o affection_n from_o these_o thing_n that_o will_v abuse_v they_o and_o certain_o blast_v every_o good_a work_n in_o thy_o heart_n and_o turn_v thy_o religion_n into_o mere_a hypocrisy_n for_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v in_o that_o heart_n where_o the_o love_n of_o any_o worldly_a thing_n do_v prevail_v harken_v therefore_o and_o listen_v attentive_o what_o concern_v so_o much_o if_o they_o shall_v prove_v true_a and_o this_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o will_v stop_v their_o mouth_n that_o choose_v a_o romance_n or_o vain_a ballad_n before_o the_o word_n of_o god_n to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o their_o thought_n but_o when_o god_n will_v certain_o make_v good_a every_o judgement_n he_o have_v threaten_v to_o the_o impenitent_a sinner_n and_o when_o every_o wicked_a person_n that_o die_v in_o his_o sin_n shall_v as_o certain_o feel_v those_o dreadful_a woe_n as_o now_o he_o hear_v or_o may_v hear_v they_o pronounce_v o_o what_o a_o advantage_n be_v here_o to_o beget_v a_o resolution_n to_o withstand_v every_o temptation_n that_o will_v draw_v we_o to_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v thus_o threaten_v though_o it_o be_v a_o please_a and_o any_o one_o that_o think_v on_o they_o in_o mind_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o skill_n infinite_a goodness_n and_o power_n in_o the_o create_v of_o they_o 2._o they_o serve_v for_o his_o food_n and_o raiment_n and_o be_v the_o mean_n to_o keep_v he_o alive_a that_o can_v not_o live_v a_o day_n without_o they_o let_v he_o that_o think_v he_o be_v least_o of_o all_o behold_n to_o the_o creature_n consider_v whether_o he_o can_v live_v a_o hour_n without_o the_o air_n he_o suck_v in_o or_o how_o many_o day_n he_o can_v live_v without_o food_n which_o one_o creature_n or_o another_o serve_v in_o every_o day_n and_o then_o let_v he_o think_v who_o have_v make_v and_o do_v supply_v every_o creature_n to_o he_o and_o forget_v god_n if_o he_o can_v 3._o they_o serve_v for_o his_o other_o necessary_a use_n in_o great_a delightful_a variety_n the_o horse_n to_o fetch_v in_o and_o carry_v out_o both_o himself_o and_o other_o thing_n and_o to_o remove_v his_o luggage_n from_o place_n to_o place_n the_o wood_n and_o stone_n to_o build_v his_o habitation_n and_o the_o art_n and_o workmanship_n of_o man_n to_o adorn_v it_o the_o dog_n to_o keep_v it_o and_o all_o thing_n conspire_v together_o to_o make_v he_o as_o happy_a as_o he_o can_v be_v in_o the_o absence_n of_o god_n even_o a_o lord_n on_o earth_n because_o god_n have_v appoint_v he_o so_o to_o be_v and_o have_v he_o not_o yet_o enough_o to_o advance_v his_o great_a benefactor_n in_o his_o heart_n 4._o they_o serve_v also_o for_o his_o recreation_n and_o sober_a pleasure_n and_o refreshment_n when_o he_o have_v be_v tire_v by_o his_o more_o serious_a employment_n and_o yet_o to_o forget_v god_n who_o praise_n and_o service_n these_o creature_n do_v so_o constant_o bespeak_v by_o their_o so_o beneficial_a service_n to_o we_o all_o these_o step_n lead_v up_o the_o sin_n to_o a_o high_a guilt_n in_o a_o word_n to_o have_v all_o the_o sense_n assault_v by_o the_o several_a object_n that_o despite_n of_o all_o 3._o three_o he_o have_v moreover_o give_v we_o his_o son_n that_o we_o may_v not_o want_v a_o argument_n of_o the_o great_a force_n to_o provoke_v a_o remembrance_n of_o he_o when_o we_o be_v like_a to_o withstand_v all_o other_o argument_n and_o to_o lose_v the_o sense_n of_o all_o his_o other_o mercy_n towards_o we_o and_o to_o perish_v in_o a_o wicked_a oblivion_n and_o
