the_o benefit_n of_o it_o for_o their_o sake_n it_o may_v be_v all_o the_o minister_n prayer_n may_v not_o be_v as_o suitable_a and_o profitable_a to_o the_o most_o and_o best_a of_o the_o people_n as_o this_o and_o it_o be_v a_o sad_a thing_n if_o a_o minister_n shall_v comply_v rather_o with_o the_o weakness_n and_o malice_n of_o a_o few_o then_o with_o the_o devotion_n and_o benefit_n of_o prescribe_v the_o use_n of_o they_o to_o any_o of_o the_o saint_n in_o their_o day_n who_o they_o exhort_v to_o pray_v so_o fervent_o and_o earnest_o reply_n this_o argument_n conclude_v nothing_o be_v mere_o negative_a and_o it_o will_v certain_o brand_v the_o apostle_n with_o a_o note_n of_o disobedience_n as_o well_o for_o not_o observe_v the_o head_n and_o matter_n of_o this_o prayer_n as_o exceed_v it_o almost_o a_o hundred_o time_n in_o length_n but_o as_o for_o apostolical_a practice_n there_o be_v many_o credible_a authority_n among_o the_o ancient_n to_o induce_v we_o to_o believe_v that_o they_o do_v frequent_o use_v it_o as_o saint_n augustine_n gregory_n etc._n etc._n nor_o can_v the_o bare_a denial_n of_o any_o one_o or_o more_o suprà _fw-la modern_a and_o prejudice_v person_n overthrow_v their_o testimony_n or_o at_o least_o such_o a_o way_n of_o argue_v will_v raze_v many_o fundamental_o of_o our_o religion_n as_o for_o their_o command_a or_o prescribe_v the_o use_n of_o these_o word_n to_o other_o i_o can_v think_v so_o uncharitable_o of_o the_o apostle_n as_o to_o conceive_v they_o omit_v this_o duty_n see_v our_o saviour_n give_v they_o in_o charge_n of_o our_o own_o be_v to_o worship_n god_n then_o much_o more_o to_o present_v the_o same_o matter_n in_o christ_n word_n for_o our_o alteration_n of_o the_o word_n may_v invert_v the_o method_n and_o change_v the_o sense_n and_o certain_o the_o use_n of_o these_o very_a word_n other_o requisite_n in_o prayer_n be_v adjoin_v be_v as_o solemn_a and_o acceptable_a a_o service_n as_o any_o we_o can_v in_o the_o prescribe_a word_n of_o christ._n dr._n owen_n or_o whether_o any_o promise_n of_o acceptation_n be_v annex_v to_o the_o say_n so_o reply_n our_o saviour_n be_v never_o yet_o repute_v so_o hard_a a_o master_n as_o to_o enjoin_v a_o duty_n and_o not_o to_o imply_v or_o express_v a_o promise_n of_o acceptation_n every_o precept_n virtual_o carry_v a_o reward_n with_o it_o in_o keep_v of_o they_o say_v the_o psalmist_n there_o 11._o be_v great_a reward_n what_o better_a promise_n than_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n yet_o this_o christ_n annex_v to_o the_o due_a performance_n of_o the_o duty_n in_o one_o of_o the_o petition_n for_o if_o you_o forgive_v man_n their_o trespass_n your_o heavenly_a father_n will_v also_o forgive_v 14._o you_o and_o why_o be_v that_o parable_n in_o and_o when_o there_o be_v no_o psalm_n or_o prayer_n in_o scripture_n either_o
