make_v a_o earthquake_n if_o there_o be_v not_o some_o vapour_n within_o to_o do_v it_o so_o that_o which_o do_v shake_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o make_v a_o combustion_n in_o their_o spirit_n it_o be_v more_o the_o inward_a disturbance_n that_o be_v there_o than_o any_o thing_n from_o without_o we_o may_v complain_v of_o outward_a thing_n and_o of_o this_o matter_n and_o of_o this_o occasion_n and_o the_o like_a but_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o all_o be_v examine_v and_o the_o true_a ground_n of_o our_o disquietness_n search_v into_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o our_o disturbance_n be_v rather_o from_o within_o than_o from_o without_o and_o if_o all_o be_v well_o within_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v trouble_v with_o any_o thing_n which_o do_v befall_v we_o from_o without_o now_o than_o if_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n will_v make_v all_o quiet_a within_o if_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n will_v beget_v a_o serenity_n and_o calmness_n in_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n it_o be_v this_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n no_o marvel_v then_o that_o the_o gospel_n speak_v so_o much_o of_o the_o peaceable_a disposition_n of_o those_o that_o entertain_v it_o that_o it_o tell_v we_o of_o the_o wolse_n dwell_v with_o the_o lamb_n of_o the_o lion_n eat_v straw_n with_o the_o ox_n that_o be_v though_o man_n be_v former_o of_o such_o wolvish_a and_o lion-like_a nature_n yet_o have_v receive_v the_o gospel_n and_o accept_v of_o the_o term_n of_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n they_o shall_v be_v as_o lamb_n they_o shall_v agree_v one_o with_o another_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o in_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o will_v quiet_v the_o heart_n so_o that_o a_o man_n may_v wonder_v when_o he_o consider_v of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o peace_n that_o be_v between_o god_n and_o man_n how_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o a_o christian_n to_o be_v put_v into_o a_o passion_n you_o complain_v of_o the_o trouble_v you_o meet_v withal_o in_o your_o world_n that_o your_o husband_n be_v froward_a or_o that_o the_o wife_n be_v froward_a that_o you_o have_v perverse_a neighbour_n but_o
god_n rich_a grace_n even_o in_o this_o one_o branch_n of_o the_o gospel_n his_o beginning_n the_o work_n of_o reconciliation_n use_v 2._o and_o then_o another_o use_n of_o it_o may_v be_v this_o to_o teach_v we_o not_o to_o think_v much_o but_o to_o begin_v to_o seek_v peace_n even_o with_o our_o inferior_n learn_v we_o by_o the_o example_n of_o god_n that_o if_o there_o be_v fall_v out_o between_o one_o neighbour_n and_o another_o or_o between_o one_o friend_n and_o another_o not_o to_o think_v much_o to_o begin_v the_o work_n of_o peace_n we_o think_v it_o will_v be_v a_o dishonour_n for_o we_o to_o yield_v so_o far_o we_o say_v what_o be_v he_o not_o my_o inferior_a shall_v i_o send_v to_o he_o why_o it_o be_v god_n glory_n to_o do_v it_o god_n do_v not_o only_o do_v it_o to_o we_o but_o he_o account_v it_o his_o glory_n so_o to_o do_v it_o be_v a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o yield_v to_o we_o and_o to_o send_v to_o we_o about_o term_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o shall_v that_o which_o make_v god_n to_o be_v glorious_a be_v account_v a_o dishonour_n to_o thou_o shall_v it_o make_v thou_o unglorious_a when_o it_o make_v god_n to_o be_v glorious_a if_o it_o be_v a_o excellency_n in_o god_n sure_o it_o be_v no_o baseness_n no_o dishonour_n in_o thou_o what_o a_o proud_a heart_n have_v thou_o that_o thou_o shall_v think_v that_o that_o do_v debase_v thou_o too_o much_o which_o make_v god_n to_o be_v a_o glorious_a god_n that_o that_o which_o do_v set_v so_o much_o glory_n upon_o god_n shall_v in_o thy_o thought_n put_v dishonour_n upon_o thou_o as_o if_o thy_o honour_n be_v to_o be_v high_a than_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n himself_o certain_o those_o man_n that_o be_v of_o such_o implacable_a disposition_n at_o least_o they_o will_v never_o yield_v to_o begin_v to_o make_v up_o their_o peace_n with_o other_o but_o they_o will_v stand_v it_o out_o to_o the_o uttermost_a though_o their_o conscience_n tell_v they_o that_o they_o themselves_o have_v do_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o wrong_n and_o that_o they_o can_v be_v willing_a there_o be_v a_o peace_n only_o they_o will_v not_o begin_v reconcile_v unto_o thou_o will_v make_v thou_o to_o begin_v reconciliation_n with_o thy_o inferior_a you_o will_v say_v why_o shall_v not_o he_o begin_v first_o it_o be_v true_a why_o shall_v he_o thought_n of_o peace_n and_o love_n and_o mercy_n to_o we_o sure_o when_o we_o be_v reconcile_v when_o we_o have_v heart_n in_o some_o measure_n to_o love_v this_o god_n and_o to_o serve_v and_o fear_v he_o he_o will_v not_o cast_v we_o off_o certain_o no_o it_o be_v better_a with_o we_o now_o than_o before_o when_o we_o be_v enemy_n unto_o he_o and_o desperate_a enemy_n it_o have_v be_v then_o no_o wonder_n if_o god_n have_v cast_v we_o off_o and_o send_v we_o to_o our_o own_o place_n to_o lie_v for_o ever_o under_o the_o infinite_a burden_n of_o his_o wrath_n but_o the_o lord_n have_v then_o thought_n of_o peace_n towards_o we_o it_o be_v therefore_o now_o far_o otherwise_o with_o we_o though_o it_o be_v true_a we_o have_v many_o corruption_n in_o we_o but_o we_o can_v appeal_v unto_o god_n that_o our_o soul_n love_v he_o and_o that_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v to_o fear_v and_o serve_v he_o we_o can_v in_o some_o measure_n be_v able_a to_o say_v lord_n thou_o that_o know_v all_o thing_n know_v that_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n our_o soul_n desire_v more_o than_o to_o overcome_v these_o corruption_n there_o be_v no_o burden_n in_o all_o the_o world_n like_v unto_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n there_o be_v nothing_o so_o grievous_a to_o we_o as_o this_o that_o we_o have_v such_o vile_a heart_n and_o nature_n that_o can_v serve_v he_o no_o better_o than_o we_o do_v and_o if_o god_n shall_v ask_v we_o what_o we_o will_v have_v from_o he_o we_o can_v say_v in_o the_o sincerity_n of_o our_o soul_n lord_n thou_o know_v we_o will_v not_o ask_v riches_n or_o honour_n to_o be_v king_n and_o prince_n in_o the_o world_n but_o oh_o that_o we_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o the_o remayner_n of_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o our_o heart_n from_o such_o and_o such_o distemper_n of_o our_o soul_n whereby_o we_o dishonour_v thy_o name_n continual_o certain_o if_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v in_o this_o disposition_n they_o may_v gather_v a_o comfortable_a argument_n to_o themselves_o and_o conclude_v thus_o there_o be_v a_o time_n that_o i_o go_v on_o as_o a_o dsperate_a enemy_n unto_o god_n and_o i_o live_v without_o god_n in_o the_o world_n and_o never_o mind_v the_o power_n and_o the_o majesty_n and_o the_o dominion_n of_o god_n over_o i_o but_o as_o if_o i_o be_v bear_v to_o nothing_o else_o but_o to_o sin_n the_o lord_n will_v have_v these_o stir_v up_o to_o the_o utmost_a though_o it_o can_v be_v in_o a_o sanctify_a way_n and_o these_o expression_n of_o god_n &_o christ_n to_o sinner_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o efficacy_n in_o they_o to_o stir_v up_o what_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n you_o have_v and_o if_o sinner_n do_v not_o this_o they_o can_v expect_v that_o god_n shall_v do_v much_o towards_o they_o consider_v what_o power_n god_n have_v give_v they_o and_o what_o common_a gift_n they_o have_v already_o and_o let_v that_o be_v act_v to_o the_o utmost_a and_o then_o they_o may_v wait_v still_o for_o more_o from_o god_n this_o be_v a_o truth_n that_o there_o be_v none_o that_o do_v perish_v but_o god_n have_v this_o to_o charge_v they_o with_o that_o they_o do_v not_o stir_v up_o the_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n second_o though_o we_o can_v do_v any_o thing_n of_o ourselves_o yet_o god_n know_v
that_o that_o be_v the_o best_a way_n to_o convey_v true_a save_v grace_n unto_o they_o a_o spirit_n of_o life_n into_o they_o it_o be_v by_o this_o mean_n rather_o than_o by_o other_o the_o lord_n choose_v this_o way_n rather_o than_o other_o you_o have_v receive_v the_o spirit_n say_v paul_n to_o the_o galatian_n and_o how_o have_v you_o receive_v it_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o way_n be_v the_o conveyance_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n to_o you_o be_v it_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o law_n or_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n not_o by_o the_o one_o but_o by_o the_o other_o though_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o use_n of_o preach_v the_o law_n yet_o that_o which_o do_v convey_v the_o spirit_n and_o grace_n into_o the_o conscience_n it_o be_v the_o open_v the_o riches_n of_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o gospel_n therefore_o this_o objection_n have_v no_o strength_n in_o it_o to_o say_v we_o have_v no_o power_n in_o ourselves_o god_n do_v entreat_v and_o beseech_v because_o by_o this_o mean_v he_o put_v forth_o a_o power_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o he_o do_v intend_v to_o save_v everlasting_o if_o we_o shall_v entreat_v dead_a man_n to_o rise_v it_o be_v a_o folly_n for_o we_o because_o we_o can_v convey_v any_o power_n into_o they_o but_o it_o be_v not_o his_o almighty_a power_n then_o there_o will_v not_o so_o much_o of_o the_o beauty_n and_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n appear_v as_o there_o do_v this_o way_n if_o god_n shall_v effectual_o work_v it_o by_o his_o own_o hand_n i_o say_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o grace_n will_v not_o so_o glorious_o shine_v forth_o now_o it_o be_v the_o special_a design_n that_o god_n have_v in_o all_o his_o work_n about_o redemption_n that_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n may_v appear_v to_o man_n and_o angel_n that_o they_o may_v magnify_v it_o now_o what_o can_v be_v more_o to_o subject_n for_o the_o saint_n to_o be_v blessing_n of_o god_n to_o all_o eternity_n and_o therefore_o you_o christian_n that_o have_v find_v the_o work_n of_o god_n bring_v in_o your_o heart_n to_o himself_o observe_v what_o god_n work_v be_v mark_v the_o several_a way_n of_o god_n work_v with_o your_o soul_n for_o know_v that_o those_o several_a way_n of_o god_n work_v with_o your_o soul_n now_o will_v be_v the_o subject_n of_o your_o eternal_a praise_n in_o heaven_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o god_n do_v go_v on_o in_o such_o several_a expression_n that_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n may_v appear_v the_o more_o full_o yea_o and_o further_o that_o by_o this_o mean_v he_o may_v gain_v the_o heart_n of_o sinner_n everlasting_o to_o himself_o there_o be_v nothing_o will_v gain_v they_o so_o unto_o god_n as_o this_o declaration_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o when_o the_o sinner_n shall_v see_v not_o only_o that_o god_n be_v reconcile_v but_o how_o god_n have_v set_v his_o heart_n upon_o it_o how_o earnest_a god_n have_v be_v in_o it_o this_o will_v engage_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o sinner_n for_o ever_o unto_o god_n and_o gospel_n they_o seldom_o hold_v out_o though_o for_o a_o while_n out_o of_o slavery_n to_o their_o conscience_n they_o do_v not_o commit_v such_o and_o such_o sin_n this_o i_o make_v no_o question_n one_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o do_v that_o have_v no_o true_a save_a grace_n that_o they_o may_v not_o dare_v to_o commit_v a_o sin_n in_o secret_a for_o a_o while_n mere_o our_o of_o terror_n of_o conscience_n but_o now_o these_o man_n they_o be_v only_o wrought_v upon_o by_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n they_o seldom_o hold_v out_o but_o though_o conscience_n bear_v a_o strong_a hand_n to_o keep_v they_o from_o sin_n for_o a_o long_a time_n yet_o at_o length_n they_o break_v those_o bond_n but_o now_o those_o that_o have_v not_o only_a conscience_n enlighten_v and_o do_v not_o see_v the_o danger_n of_o sin_n only_o but_o come_v to_o have_v these_o beam_n of_o the_o grace_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n let_v out_o into_o their_o heart_n and_o their_o heart_n be_v so_o gain_v unto_o god_n by_o this_o that_o they_o will_v never_o depart_v from_o he_o but_o their_o heart_n will_v follow_v to_o the_o bountifulness_n of_o god_n the_o difference_n of_o these_o two_o may_v be_v express_v by_o this_o similitude_n look_v how_o it_o be_v in_o frosty_a wether_n when_o the_o water_n be_v freeze_v there_o be_v two_o way_n to_o come_v by_o the_o water_n the_o husbandman_n go_v in_o the_o morning_n and_o see_v the_o water_n freeze_v and_o beat_v it_o to_o piece_n and_o break_v the_o ice_n but_o though_o he_o do_v so_o the_o next_o morning_n he_o come_v and_o see_v it_o freeze_v as_o much_o as_o before_o but_o when_o there_o come_v warm_a weather_n and_o dissolve_v the_o ice_n than_o it_o quite_o go_v away_o in_o flake_n so_o hence_o the_o heart_n of_o all_o sinner_n be_v freeze_v and_o god_n come_v with_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n and_o beat_v they_o in_o piece_n and_o break_v they_o that_o way_n i_o but_o at_o last_o they_o freeze_v again_o and_o grow_v as_o hard_o again_o as_o ever_o but_o now_o when_o the_o lord_n come_v with_o the_o beam_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o shine_v upon_o they_o then_o their_o heart_n thaw_v and_o the_o ice_n go_v away_o and_o their_o heart_n come_v in_o flow_v to_o god_n in_o another_o manner_n than_o
