mustâ—_n draw_v the_o other_o foot_n after_o that_o be_v we_o must_v continual_o increase_v and_o go_v forward_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o faith_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n the_o prophet_n zachary_n say_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n be_v pour_v forth_o upon_o we_o which_o spirit_n require_v this_o increase_n in_o we_o and_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o the_o spirit_n sigh_v with_o sigh_n that_o can_v not_o be_v express_v yea_o and_o that_o every_o creature_n also_o groan_v for_o the_o deliverance_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n wherefore_o while_o we_o be_v in_o this_o body_n which_o press_v we_o down_o as_o a_o heavy_a burden_n and_o hinder_v we_o that_o we_o can_v not_o full_o apprehend_v these_o thing_n we_o have_v not_o only_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n a_o true_a divine_a or_o that_o he_o have_v now_o attain_v to_o the_o full_a and_o perfect_a knowledge_n hereof_o for_o this_o arrogancy_n make_v fanatical_a spirit_n which_o like_v to_o aesopes_n dog_n follow_v the_o shadow_n and_o lose_v the_o thing_n in_o deed_n if_o we_o look_v to_o the_o word_n to_o baptism_n to_o christ_n himself_o all_o be_v perfect_a but_o we_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o the_o thing_n but_o of_o the_o apprehension_n thereof_o so_o life_n everlasting_a be_v perfect_a in_o my_o father_n house_n be_v many_o mansion_n say_v christ_n but_o in_o these_o mansion_n we_o be_v not_o yet_o full_o settle_v so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o be_v oppress_v with_o care_n vex_v with_o sin_n afflict_v with_o tentation_n terror_n and_o desperation_n satan_n never_o cease_v to_o assail_v our_o faith_n hope_n and_o other_o virtue_n which_o god_n have_v plant_v in_o us._n prerogative_n and_o this_o prerogative_n have_v satan_n because_o the_o grace_n which_o be_v begin_v in_o we_o be_v not_o yet_o perfect_a therefore_o he_o fight_v so_o busy_o against_o these_o beginning_n fear_v lest_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o perfection_n such_o be_v the_o life_n of_o christian_n which_o have_v already_o receive_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n who_o by_o experience_n do_v learn_v that_o these_o thing_n can_v not_o be_v full_o apprehend_v but_o that_o in_o the_o mean_a while_o they_o shall_v often_o time_n slip_v yea_o and_o some_o time_n dangerous_o fall_v so_o that_o the_o spark_n of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v in_o they_o utter_o quench_v as_o it_o happen_v to_o david_n in_o his_o adultery_n wherein_o they_o have_v need_n of_o help_n to_o raise_v they_o up_o again_o as_o christ_n answer_v to_o paul_n my_o power_n be_v make_v perfect_a in_o infirmity_n the_o infirmity_n be_v they_o and_o remain_v they_o while_o they_o live_v but_o the_o power_n and_o strength_n be_v christ_n alone_a in_o this_o dangerous_a state_n they_o fly_v unto_o prayer_n and_o say_v lead_v we_o not_o into_o tentation_n give_v victory_n oh_o lord_n that_o my_o faith_n fail_v not_o that_o my_o hope_n never_o wax_v rich_a wherefore_o they_o exhort_v they_o to_o win_v vain_a industry_n with_o their_o travel_n so_o shall_v they_o the_o soon_o attain_v to_o that_o which_o they_o so_o painful_o seek_v for_o a_o master_n of_o a_o household_n in_o who_o there_o be_v some_o industry_n can_v do_v more_o with_o one_o pewee_n of_o gold_n than_o some_o other_o can_v do_v with_o two_o a_o woman_n skilful_a of_o household_n affair_n industrious_a &_o provident_a withal_o can_v live_v with_o her_o family_n a_o whole_a year_n of_o those_o charge_n wherewith_o a_o other_o woman_n not_o so_o industrious_a labour_n be_v for_o that_o it_o observe_v the_o circumstance_n of_o person_n place_n convenient_a time_n &_o other_o occasion_n that_o nothing_o be_v do_v in_o vain_a nor_o labour_n lose_v these_o thing_n he_o that_o do_v not_o observe_v in_o household_n and_o politic_a government_n must_v of_o necessity_n be_v many_o time_n deceive_v no_o marvel_n be_v it_o then_o if_o great_a riches_n be_v not_o able_a to_o suffice_v a_o man_n in_o who_o this_o industry_n be_v lack_v success_n that_o be_v which_o do_v not_o with_o discretion_n observe_v &_o consider_v the_o circumstance_n before_o mention_v these_o man_n therefore_o give_v this_o counsel_n that_o industry_n shall_v be_v join_v with_o labour_n because_o labour_v without_o industry_n have_v no_o success_n but_o solomon_n speak_v more_o proper_o not_o that_o industry_n but_o that_o the_o lord_n himself_o be_v the_o cause_n for_o even_o this_o also_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n through_o industry_n to_o govern_v the_o common_a as_o touch_v the_o principal_a cause_n whereby_o all_o the_o endeavour_n counsel_n and_o policy_n of_o man_n be_v rule_v and_o direct_v and_o keep_v we_o that_o we_o make_v no_o confusion_n or_o mixture_n of_o cause_n and_o that_o of_o the_o first_o cause_n we_o make_v not_o the_o second_o cause_n or_o else_o in_o deed_n no_o cause_n at_o all_o for_o he_o do_v not_o create_v thing_n and_o so_o leave_v they_o say_v a_o certain_a philosopher_n speak_v of_o god_n and_o very_o well_o he_o do_v not_o so_o ordain_v matrimony_n and_o civil_a government_n as_o the_o shipwright_n do_v the_o ship_n who_o after_o that_o he_o have_v finish_v his_o work_n so_o leave_v it_o and_o commit_v it_o to_o the_o mariner_n to_o be_v guide_v as_o he_o will._n creature_n but_o god_n be_v still_o present_a with_o his_o creature_n and_o govern_v both_o the_o house_n and_o the_o common_a wealth_n this_o man_n do_v not_o know_v but_o think_v that_o god_n have_v no_o regard_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o do_v but_o leave_v they_o unto_o we_o contrary_a to_o this_o profane_a and_o wicked_a opinion_n solomon_n teach_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v fear_v god_n call_v upon_o he_o and_o so_o rich_fw-fr but_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n make_v a_o man_n rich_a etc_n etc_n god_n will_v not_o give_v success_n unto_o thou_o because_o of_o thy_o labour_n like_v as_o he_o will_v not_o give_v with_o trouble_n to_o keep_v and_o enjoy_v the_o word_n of_o god_n then_o with_o loss_n of_o the_o word_n to_o live_v in_o peace_n and_o tranquillity_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o heavenly_a a_o peace_n as_o for_o i_o i_o will_v not_o desire_v to_o live_v in_o paradise_n without_o the_o word_n and_o with_o the_o word_n to_o live_v in_o hell_n it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n like_v as_o in_o this_o world_n we_o live_v as_o it_o be_v in_o hell_n and_o comfort_v ourselves_o only_o with_o hope_n which_o the_o word_n of_o god_n show_v unto_o we_o and_o with_o this_o hope_n we_o overcome_v all_o kind_n of_o trouble_n &_o cross_n let_v we_o therefore_o lay_v sure_a hold_n on_o this_o consolation_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n here_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o whereof_o also_o all_o they_o have_v great_a need_n that_o teach_v the_o word_n of_o truth_n namely_o that_o they_o be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o offence_n trouble_n and_o sedition_n there_o must_v needs_o be_v offence_n there_o it_o promise_v seem_v either_o absurd_a &_o unlikely_a or_o impossible_a or_o else_o incredible_a &_o against_o all_o reason_n therefore_o they_o which_o have_v once_o begin_v to_o believe_v have_v need_n of_o continual_a exhortation_n to_o stir_v they_o up_o against_o the_o tentation_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o strive_v against_o faith_n &_o the_o word_n of_o god_n lest_o the_o spirit_n be_v comfort_n be_v infinite_a which_o the_o heart_n believe_v and_o seek_v after_o when_o it_o be_v in_o trouble_n and_o distress_n and_o it_o be_v
we_o in_o this_o psalm_n with_o thankfulness_n to_o acknowledge_v this_o singular_a benefit_n of_o the_o word_n and_o to_o beware_v of_o the_o horrible_a contempt_n thereof_o how_o much_o better_a be_v it_o to_o suffer_v pestilence_n famine_n and_o the_o sword_n how_o much_o more_o tolerable_a for_o david_n to_o become_v both_o a_o adulterer_n and_o a_o murderer_n so_o that_o there_o remain_v a_o one_o as_o will_v help_v the_o afflict_a and_o oppress_v with_o desperation_n and_o other_o calamity_n to_o know_v this_o doctrine_n be_v one_o piece_n of_o the_o victory_n for_o they_o that_o know_v it_o not_o when_o tentation_n assail_v they_o either_o do_v despair_n or_o seek_v other_o help_n let_v we_o learn_v then_o out_o of_o this_o psalm_n that_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o succour_n it_o be_v not_o able_a wherefore_o this_o be_v a_o necessary_a conclusion_n our_o help_n be_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n it_o be_v a_o short_a sentence_n but_o it_o set_v forth_o most_o worthy_a doctrine_n and_o consolation_n whereof_o â–ª_o special_o in_o these_o latter_a day_n we_o have_v great_a need_n see_v the_o pope_n together_o with_o the_o great_a part_n of_o the_o prince_n &_o ruler_n of_o the_o world_n so_o cruel_o do_v persecute_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o respect_n of_o these_o huge_a mountain_n what_o be_v we_o small_a molehill_n yea_o so_o much_o oppress_v yet_o be_v we_o not_o forsake_v but_o be_v safe_a through_o our_o confidence_n and_o trust_n in_o his_o help_n but_o to_o this_o wisdom_n it_o be_v unpossible_a for_o we_o to_o matter_n of_o faith_n not_o to_o trust_v unto_o that_o which_o the_o eye_n see_v but_o which_o the_o word_n offer_v and_o promise_v this_o one_o thing_n therefore_o be_v lack_v in_o we_o that_o we_o have_v not_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o we_o judge_v according_a to_o the_o eye_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o flesh_n for_o else_o we_o shall_v be_v no_o more_o afraid_a than_o they_o which_o be_v close_v within_o the_o wall_n of_o a_o invincible_a castle_n fear_v not_o the_o force_n and_o power_n of_o their_o enemy_n be_v they_o never_o so_o terrible_a we_o must_v not_o doubt_v of_o the_o king_n where_o the_o servant_n of_o helizeus_fw-la see_v the_o hill_n about_o he_o full_a of_o fiery_a chariote_n and_o horseman_n compass_n helizeus_fw-la round_a about_o and_o mighty_o defend_v he_o this_o succour_n which_o the_o servant_n of_o helizeus_fw-la see_v and_o the_o prophet_n believe_v when_o he_o see_v nothing_o be_v say_v the_o prophet_n round_o about_o all_o they_o which_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n as_o also_o the_o 34._o psalm_n witness_v the_o angel_n of_o the_o lord_n pitch_v round_o about_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o but_o our_o eye_n be_v shut_v up_o and_o fiery_a wall_n that_o be_v with_o the_o sure_a custody_n the_o continual_a watch_n and_o ward_n of_o the_o angel_n but_o the_o lord_n himself_o be_v our_o wall_n so_o that_o every_o way_n we_o be_v defend_v by_o the_o lord_n against_o all_o danger_n above_o we_o he_o be_v a_o heaven_n on_o both_o side_n he_o be_v as_o a_o wall_n under_o we_o he_o be_v as_o a_o strong_a rock_n whereupon_o we_o stand_v so_o be_v we_o every_o way_n sure_a and_o safe_a now_o if_o satan_n through_o these_o munition_n cast_v his_o dart_n at_o we_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n himself_o shall_v be_v hurt_v before_o we_o take_v harm_n but_o great_a be_v our_o incredulity_n which_o hear_v all_o these_o thing_n in_o vain_a yet_o must_v they_o be_v teach_v and_o learn_v lest_o the_o time_n come_v that_o we_o be_v destitute_a of_o all_o counsel_n and_o comfort_n in_o these_o matter_n for_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o the_o hour_n shall_v come_v when_o we_o must_v have_v experience_n of_o these_o thing_n or_o else_o utter_o perish_v where_o he_o add_v from_o henceforth_o &_o for_o ever_o by_o these_o word_n he_o show_v that_o this_o vigilancy_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n ever_o we_o be_v not_o temporal_a but_o eternal_a according_a to_o that_o which_o he_o say_v before_o in_o the_o first_o verse_n of_o this_o psalm_n they_o shall_v remain_v for_o ever_o let_v we_o learn_v therefore_o out_o of_o this_o psalm_n that_o our_o constancy_n and_o perseverance_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o we_o be_v defend_v by_o the_o power_n and_o providence_n of_o the_o lord_n on_o every_o affliction_n we_o must_v needs_o suffer_v and_o by_o patience_n overcome_v they_o &_o withal_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o by_o these_o outward_a affliction_n the_o inward_a man_n be_v not_o weaken_v or_o overcome_v rest_v in_o this_o assure_a hope_n and_o trust_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o forsake_v we_o but_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n and_o be_v close_v within_o most_o sure_a and_o strong_a hold_n so_o that_o now_o although_o our_o good_n our_o wife_n our_o child_n yea_o and_o our_o life_n also_o be_v take_v from_o we_o yet_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v spoil_v of_o our_o christ_n by_o who_o we_o be_v so_o sure_o defend_v that_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o all_o our_o tentation_n he_o will_v make_v away_o for_o we_o to_o escape_v or_o else_o geve_v we_o strength_n to_o bear_v they_o thus_o we_o see_v what_o consolation_n the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o unto_o they_o which_o believe_v the_o word_n for_o unto_o such_o as_o look_v for_o a_o better_a life_n than_o this_o all_o thing_n be_v here_o full_a of_o calamity_n and_o misery_n death_n follow_v death_n as_o paul_n say_v and_o we_o continual_o die_v one_o tentation_n follow_v a_o other_o until_o at_o the_o length_n by_o the_o death_n of_o the_o flesh_n all_o misery_n shall_v cease_v and_o have_v a_o end_n this_o verse_n therefore_o make_v much_o for_o our_o comfort_n admonish_v we_o that_o we_o must_v suffer_v many_o trouble_n yet_o so_o that_o at_o the_o length_n we_o shall_v be_v safe_a and_o set_v at_o liberty_n from_o they_o all_o though_o not_o in_o this_o life_n yet_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o in_o eternal_a life_n and_o why_o shall_v we_o not_o thus_o bold_o promise_v unto_o ourselves_o remain_v under_o this_o diligent_a custody_n of_o the_o tentation_n which_o tentation_n whether_o they_o be_v within_o in_o the_o spirit_n or_o without_o in_o the_o flesh_n the_o time_n shall_v come_v when_o we_o through_o christ_n shall_v have_v full_a victory_n hereof_o as_o this_o verse_n full_a of_o sweet_a consolation_n do_v promise_n unto_o us._n notwithstanding_o this_o promise_n seem_v incredible_a both_o to_o we_o which_o suffer_v and_o also_o to_o they_o which_o persecute_v and_o afflict_v we_o for_o if_o we_o behold_v the_o same_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n what_o can_v be_v more_o false_a yea_o the_o contrary_n seem_v to_o be_v what_o we_o suffer_v and_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n behold_v but_o what_o be_v decree_v with_o the_o lord_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o that_o can_v so_o sequester_n himself_o from_o the_o behold_n which_o satan_n sin_n and_o our_o own_o infirmity_n raise_v up_o in_o our_o conscience_n we_o must_v learn_v therefore_o thus_o to_o judge_v of_o all_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v the_o rod_n wicked_a man_n speak_v of_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n they_o speak_v after_o a_o other_o sort_n &_o with_o other_o word_n than_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v wont_a to_o speak_v for_o they_o follow_v the_o sense_n and_o judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n only_o and_o see_v nothing_o else_o either_o in_o civil_a government_n or_o in_o matrimony_n and_o household_n affair_n but_o those_o thing_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v painful_a hard_a and_o full_a of_o trouble_n and_o not_o only_o so_o do_v but_o those_o thing_n also_o which_o in_o these_o kind_n of_o life_n be_v divine_a and_o heavenly_a in_o deed_n they_o do_v not_o perceive_v because_o of_o those_o small_a trouble_n and_o discommodity_n which_o touch_v the_o flesh_n and_o hereof_o come_v these_o say_n there_o be_v no_o city_n without_o a_o burdeâ—_n that_o be_v without_o a_o woman_n a_o wife_n be_v a_o necessary_a evil_n to_o bury_v a_o wife_n be_v better_a than_o to_o marry_v she_o if_o we_o can_v be_v without_o woman_n we_o shall_v be_v without_o great_a trouble_n and_o such_o other_o like_a say_n tend_v to_o the_o dispraise_n and_o reproach_n of_o woman_n the_o cause_n why_o man_n do_v thus_o perverse_o judge_v be_v bellygod_n do_v or_o else_o abuse_v the_o same_o to_o his_o own_o lust_n and_o pleasure_n so_o blind_a be_v it_o through_o original_a sin_n with_o the_o desire_n of_o pleasure_n â–ª_o glory_a and_o riches_n necessary_a it_o be_v therefore_o to_o apply_v some_o medicine_n unto_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o somewhat_o to_o repress_v and_o to_o bridle_v the_o wanton_a flesh_n with_o those_o trouble_n which_o be_v both_o in_o matrimony_n and_o in_o civil_a affair_n wherefore_o when_o we_o read_v these_o praise_n of_o matrimony_n in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o compare_v they_o with_o the_o judgement_n of_o man_n we_o shall_v see_v the_o one_o to_o be_v clean_o contrary_a to_o the_o other_o we_o must_v say_v therefore_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v true_a according_a to_o the_o discommodity_n that_o be_v incident_a to_o these_o kind_n of_o life_n either_o he_o cover_v they_o or_o else_o he_o make_v they_o less_o than_o they_o be_v and_o this_o the_o world_n can_v not_o do_v the_o wise_a man_n therefore_o as_o in_o history_n we_o may_v see_v do_v refuse_v to_o bear_v office_n in_o the_o common_a weal_n or_o to_o deal_v in_o public_a affair_n the_o same_o thing_n come_v to_o pass_v also_o in_o matrimony_n for_o young_a man_n will_v hardly_o suffer_v this_o yoke_n to_o be_v lay_v upon_o they_o as_o the_o old_a man_n say_v of_o they_o in_o the_o poet._n they_o say_v he_o which_o be_v in_o love_n he_o mean_v unchaste_a love_n and_o fleshly_a lust_n can_v not_o abide_v to_o hear_v of_o marriage_n they_o will_v not_o forsake_v their_o filthy_a pleasure_n to_o live_v chaste_o in_o holy_a matrimony_n and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o which_o through_o vehement_a love_n be_v bring_v under_o this_o yoke_n when_o they_o see_v no_o such_o success_n thereof_o as_o they_o look_v for_o but_o that_o some_o trouble_n or_o other_o do_v follow_v which_o they_o be_v blind_v with_o love_n can_v not_o foresee_v than_o they_o complain_v than_o they_o repent_v that_o ever_o they_o bring_v themselves_o into_o such_o bondage_n hereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o husband_n will_v rather_o bear_v with_o all_o wickedness_n in_o a_o harlot_n &_o a_o strumpet_n then_o with_o any_o little_a fault_n in_o his_o own_o wife_n as_o also_o the_o wife_n except_o she_o be_v very_o godly_a will_v soon_o wink_v at_o the_o wickedness_n of_o a_o adulterer_n then_o at_o the_o small_a and_o show_v their_o obedience_n unto_o god_n when_o he_o send_v diverse_a tentation_n and_o to_o this_o end_n we_o will_v interpret_v this_o psalm_n this_o marriage_n song_n that_o we_o may_v behold_v those_o spiritual_a good_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v hide_v in_o matrimony_n &_o esteem_v the_o same_o according_o to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o be_v not_o like_a to_o this_o world_n which_o see_v the_o work_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o do_v not_o understand_v they_o and_o hear_v the_o blessing_n and_o sweet_a promise_n of_o god_n and_o do_v not_o believe_v they_o verse_n 1._o bless_a be_v all_o they_o which_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o walk_n in_o his_o way_n
call_v trust_n but_o in_o deed_n it_o be_v nothing_o for_o we_o may_v not_o depart_v from_o the_o vocal_a word_n for_o if_o we_o so_o do_v what_o certainty_n can_v we_o have_v of_o god_n depart_v especial_o see_v that_o god_n have_v give_v his_o word_n ordain_v minister_n of_o his_o word_n magistrate_n parent_n etc_n etc_n to_o this_o end_n that_o we_o shall_v follow_v their_o voice_n speak_v to_o we_o out_o of_o his_o holy_a word_n and_o command_v we_o to_o obey_v their_o authority_n the_o prophet_n signify_v here_o also_o a_o other_o tentation_n which_o all_o they_o do_v fall_v into_o that_o be_v not_o diligent_a in_o hold_v fast_o this_o knowledge_n of_o mercy_n for_o this_o satan_n seek_v and_o busy_o go_v about_o either_o public_o to_o take_v away_o the_o word_n or_o private_o to_o hinder_v this_o hope_n in_o those_o that_o have_v the_o word_n so_o the_o pope_n have_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o he_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v lead_v away_o to_o pilgrimage_n rule_n vow_n superstition_n idolatry_n etc_n etc_n what_o trouble_v we_o have_v have_v with_o sect_n we_o have_v before_o declare_v and_o who_o be_v able_a to_o recite_v the_o tentation_n wherewith_o man_n be_v private_o assail_v &_o tempt_v to_o depart_v from_o the_o word_n to_o strange_a opinion_n which_o reason_n devise_v and_o imagine_v so_o great_a a_o matter_n be_v it_o to_o avoid_v these_o subtle_a sleight_n of_o satan_n david_n say_v therefore_o i_o will_v not_o suffer_v myself_o to_o be_v lead_v from_o the_o word_n but_o in_o the_o word_n i_o will_v trust_v for_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o will_v not_o frame_v my_o faith_n after_o my_o own_o imagination_n but_o after_o the_o word_n there_o be_v then_o a_o double_a tentation_n against_o the_o which_o continual_o withstand_v his_o force_n endure_v his_o assault_n &_o never_o suffer_v ourselves_o to_o be_v overcome_v by_o his_o importunity_n for_o oftentimes_o we_o see_v that_o by_o long_a continuance_n they_o be_v overcome_v who_o no_o trouble_n be_v they_o never_o so_o great_a can_v overcome_v and_o in_o warfare_n we_o see_v that_o nothing_o be_v so_o much_o commend_v as_o to_o press_v still_o upon_o the_o enemy_n so_o the_o turk_n although_o he_o have_v have_v many_o overthrow_n yet_o because_o he_o still_o go_v on_o and_o never_o give_v over_o therefore_o he_o prevail_v in_o this_o continuance_n diligence_n &_o travail_n all_o they_o must_v constant_o persevere_v which_o will_v hold_v this_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n &_o righteousness_n and_o here_o david_n once_o overcome_v but_o one_o battle_n follow_v a_o other_o and_o one_o victory_n a_o other_o this_o earnest_n and_o continual_a travel_n of_o the_o enemy_n we_o do_v not_o only_o see_v in_o the_o story_n of_o the_o church_n but_o we_o have_v experience_n thereof_o also_o in_o ourselves_o and_o in_o our_o own_o private_a exercise_n wherefore_o if_o by_o prayer_n thou_o have_v this_o day_n of_o god_n to_o be_v take_v from_o we_o and_o turn_v our_o eye_n a_o other_o way_n it_o can_v not_o be_v but_o that_o heaviness_n and_o terror_n must_v needs_o follow_v and_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v by_o the_o fault_n partly_o of_o ourselves_o as_o i_o have_v say_v and_o partly_o of_o satan_n who_o lead_v we_o from_o the_o word_n before_o we_o be_v ware_n and_o make_v we_o to_o think_v of_o our_o own_o worthiness_n or_o unworthiness_n of_o our_o good_a or_o evil_a desert_n also_o of_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n of_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n etc_n etc_n when_o we_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n if_o we_o lay_v not_o hold_v upon_o christ_n we_o perish_v and_o be_v swallow_v up_o with_o anguish_n and_o sorrow_n for_o this_o be_v to_o lose_v the_o ark_n of_o the_o covenant_n they_o therefore_o which_o in_o these_o danger_n take_v hold_v again_o of_o the_o word_n be_v safe_a and_o be_v now_o able_a to_o say_v with_o david_n why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o 42.6_o oh_o my_o soul_n must_v pray_v therefore_o that_o god_n will_v give_v we_o good_a pastor_n faithful_a wise_a and_o godly_a disposer_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o by_o their_o mean_n and_o ministry_n the_o church_n do_v enjoy_v this_o inestimable_a benefit_n and_o blessing_n whereby_o it_o triumph_v over_o death_n sin_n and_o the_o devil_n for_o it_o know_v that_o it_o be_v now_o in_o the_o kingdom_n be_v continual_o use_v among_o the_o faithful_a if_o not_o with_o the_o mouth_n yâ—â—_n with_o the_o heart_n and_o hearty_a sigh_n unto_o god_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o s._n paul_n let_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n dwell_v in_o you_o plentiful_o signify_v that_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v continual_o exercise_v therein_o not_o only_o by_o teach_v the_o same_o to_o other_o public_o and_o private_o but_o also_o by_o earnest_a meditation_n and_o prayer_n when_o they_o sit_v at_o home_n in_o their_o house_n as_o moses_n teach_v when_o they_o walk_v by_o the_o way_n when_o they_o lie_v down_o and_o when_o they_o rise_v up_o for_o as_o the_o devil_n go_v about_o like_o a_o roar_a lion_n strong_a and_o mighty_a seek_v who_o he_o may_v devour_v so_o be_v we_o on_o every_o â—ide_v infirm_a and_o weak_a press_v down_o also_o with_o the_o flesh_n full_a of_o sin_n &_o carry_v this_o treasure_n in_o earthen_a vessel_n in_o the_o which_o our_o faith_n be_v as_o a_o tender_a plant_n which_o because_o it_o be_v not_o yet_o come_v to_o perfect_a strength_n may_v be_v easy_o shake_v with_o wind_n and_o tempest_n this_o know_v not_o they_o which_o before_o they_o have_v have_v some_o trial_n of_o themselves_o by_o affliction_n or_o wrestle_v with_o the_o enemy_n think_v themselves_o to_o be_v christian_n and_o sound_n in_o faith_n we_o must_v watch_v therefore_o and_o pray_v as_o christ_n command_v that_o in_o our_o daily_a conflict_n we_o may_v stand_v steadfast_o against_o the_o dart_n of_o satan_n which_o will_v drive_v we_o to_o the_o contempt_n of_o god_n and_o man._n so_o do_v i_o understand_v this_o prayer_n not_o in_o the_o person_n of_o the_o prophet_n as_o though_o he_o pray_v for_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o redemption_n that_o shall_v come_v but_o in_o fire_n in_o our_o conscience_n which_o before_o we_o can_v quench_v and_o apprehend_v christ_n and_o his_o word_n again_o either_o we_o be_v oppress_v with_o anguish_n and_o sorrow_n or_o utter_o consume_v for_o he_o be_v a_o murderer_n and_o seek_v by_o all_o mean_n how_o to_o destroy_v we_o it_o be_v necessary_a then_o for_o we_o to_o have_v our_o sense_n exercise_v and_o our_o mind_n occupy_v in_o the_o meditation_n of_o the_o word_n and_o prayer_n that_o the_o enemy_n find_v we_o not_o unarm_v or_o unprovided_a which_o so_o busy_o seek_v to_o spoil_v we_o of_o this_o redemption_n i_o also_o be_o a_o divine_a which_o by_o great_a trouble_n have_v get_v some_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o yet_o be_o not_o i_o so_o lift_v up_o through_o this_o gift_n but_o that_o i_o do_v daily_o exercise_v myself_o even_o â—mongest_v the_o child_n in_o the_o catechism_n in_o secret_a meditation_n i_o mean_v of_o the_o commandment_n the_o article_n of_o the_o belief_n and_o the_o lord_n prayer_n etc_n etc_n with_o a_o earnest_n and_o attentive_a mind_n not_o only_o recount_v with_o myself_o the_o word_n but_o observe_v and_o weigh_v also_o what_o every_o word_n signify_v and_o doubtless_o when_o i_o be_o not_o thus_o exercise_v but_o be_o occupy_v with_o other_o matter_n i_o find_v a_o manifest_a discommodity_n thereby_o for_o
