matter_n of_o inferior_a consideration_n so_o there_o be_v in_o this_o duty_n in_o this_o great_a and_o solemn_a service_n some_o thing_n that_o ought_v and_o be_v necessary_a and_o fit_a to_o be_v do_v other_o wherein_o the_o main_a weight_n and_o importance_n of_o it_o stand_v as_o christ_n tell_v the_o pharisee_n that_o for_o the_o tithe_n of_o mint_n and_o cumin_n they_o be_v thing_n they_o ought_v to_o do_v as_o well_o as_o the_o keep_a mercy_n and_o judgement_n though_o these_o have_v the_o pre-eminence_n and_o be_v the_o great_a thing_n of_o the_o law_n 2_o those_o thing_n in_o this_o duty_n which_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v leave_v undo_v though_o the_o life_n of_o the_o duty_n lie_v not_o in_o they_o be_v such_o as_o may_v go_v under_o the_o name_n of_o bodily_a exercise_n which_o i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o recapitulate_v particular_o because_o as_o i_o conceive_v they_o be_v every_o man_n knowledge_n as_o namely_o fast_v not_o only_o from_o our_o ordinary_a repast_n as_o eat_v and_o drink_v but_o likewise_o from_o recreation_n costly_a apparel_n and_o many_o other_o thing_n wherein_o the_o fancy_n of_o man_n be_v apt_a to_o take_v a_o delight_n and_o refreshment_n and_o so_o your_o bodily_a presence_n before_o god_n in_o the_o assembly_n for_o a_o great_a space_n of_o time_n than_o ordinary_a to_o this_o head_n i_o may_v refer_v likewise_o those_o contribution_n that_o you_o use_v to_o make_v unto_o the_o poor_a upon_o such_o occasion_n as_o these_o now_o all_o these_o be_v thing_n very_o fit_a to_o be_v do_v but_o yet_o you_o must_v take_v heed_n this_o be_v the_o stumble_a stone_n that_o i_o speak_v of_o that_o i_o will_v remove_v first_o that_o you_o place_v no_o weight_n at_o all_o or_o as_o little_a as_o possible_a may_v be_v in_o to_o the_o break_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o the_o humble_v and_o lay_v low_a the_o smite_v down_o and_o wound_v your_o spirit_n and_o conscience_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n 3_o next_o to_o this_o your_o serious_a purpose_n and_o resolution_n take_v hold_v of_o by_o a_o fast_a and_o a_o single_a hand_n of_o be_v divorce_v from_o all_o your_o know_a way_n of_o your_o several_a sin_n not_o only_o your_o pluck_n out_o and_o cut_v off_o but_o cast_v from_o you_o also_o your_o right_a eye_n and_o your_o right_a hand_n this_o be_v another_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o the_o main_a body_n or_o rather_o of_o the_o very_a heart_n and_o soul_n of_o this_o duty_n viz._n reformation_n and_o truth_n of_o repentance_n last_o your_o humble_a request_n and_o earnest_a strive_n &_o struggle_n with_o god_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o the_o sin_n you_o have_v confess_v as_o well_o national_a as_o personal_a the_o put_v forth_o your_o strength_n and_o might_n yea_o and_o the_o increase_a your_o strength_n and_o might_n the_o provoke_a your_o heart_n to_o do_v more_o and_o more_o in_o this_o kind_n in_o importune_v the_o god_n of_o mercy_n to_o pour_v out_o of_o his_o grace_n and_o goodness_n abundant_o upon_o your_o person_n and_o upon_o your_o land_n in_o all_o manner_n of_o expression_n thereof_o which_o concern_v the_o peace_n either_o of_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o for_o there_o and_o this_o happy_o be_v worthy_a some_o observation_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n usual_o take_v occasion_n upon_o such_o promise_v as_o these_o make_v for_o the_o relief_n and_o deliverance_n of_o those_o that_o trust_v in_o god_n in_o time_n of_o danger_n and_o trouble_n to_o commend_v and_o magnify_v the_o most_o infallible_a truth_n and_o certainty_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o this_o reason_n especial_o as_o i_o conceive_v because_o the_o truth_n and_o certainty_n of_o it_o suffer_v most_o from_o the_o unbelieved_a heart_n of_o man_n in_o such_o promise_n as_o these_o and_o therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n here_o interpose_v a_o special_a testimony_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v on_o purpose_n to_o prevent_v and_o disappoint_v the_o it_o be_v of_o dependence_n comely_a and_o glorious_a in_o he_o the_o great_a god_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n have_v no_o apparel_n to_o put_v on_o in_o all_o that_o infinite_a charge_n and_o variety_n he_o have_v more_o glorious_a or_o wherein_o he_o can_v commend_v himself_o and_o his_o greatness_n upon_o high_a term_n to_o his_o creature_n than_o this_o his_o save_v those_o that_o put_v their_o trust_n in_o he_o hence_o it_o be_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n to_o strengthen_v their_o hand_n in_o prayer_n usual_o plead_v their_o faith_n and_o dependence_n upon_o god_n for_o deliverance_n as_o if_o this_o be_v a_o ground_n and_o foundation_n to_o build_v a_o assure_a hope_n upon_o that_o god_n now_o will_v not_o reject_v they_o psalm_n 33._o 21_o 22._o sure_o our_o heart_n shall_v rejoice_v in_o he_o say_v david_n because_o we_o have_v trust_v in_o his_o holy_a name_n let_v thy_o mercy_n o_o lord_n be_v upon_o we_o as_o we_o trust_v in_o thou_o as_o if_o he_o have_v a_o pawn_n deliver_v and_o protect_v those_o that_o rely_v on_o they_o see_v instance_n hereof_o in_o scripture_n and_o read_v judge_n 10._o 14._o jer._n 2._o 28._o esa_fw-la 57_o 13._o etc._n etc._n hence_o it_o be_v also_o that_o god_n purpose_v to_o save_v and_o deliver_v his_o elect_a from_o the_o wrath_n to_o come_v and_o to_o bestow_v everlasting_a life_n &_o happiness_n upon_o they_o will_v not_o yet_o actual_o confer_v his_o salvation_n and_o glory_n upon_o they_o till_o they_o first_o shall_v believe_v and_o depend_v upon_o he_o for_o it_o and_o therefore_o he_o do_v not_o only_o give_v his_o son_n christ_n to_o pay_v their_o ransom_n and_o make_v atonement_n for_o their_o sin_n but_o also_o cause_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v write_v wherein_o the_o history_n of_o the_o life_n and_o work_n and_o will_v glorify_v and_o magnify_v they_o that_o they_o may_v glorify_v and_o magnify_v he_o again_o if_o he_o incline_v and_o move_v and_o persuade_v the_o creature_n true_o and_o sin_n as_o of_o two_o contrary_a term_n or_o two_o point_n in_o the_o heaven_n diametral_o opposite_a or_o direct_o cross_v one_o to_o the_o other_o as_o the_o east_n be_v to_o the_o west_n and_o the_o north_n to_o the_o south_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o whilst_o a_o man_n face_n be_v towards_o sin_n that_o be_v whilst_o he_o remain_v impenitent_a and_o unconvert_v his_o back_n be_v towards_o god_n that_o be_v he_o see_v not_o that_o in_o he_o why_o he_o shall_v trust_v he_o or_o depend_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o man_n while_o his_o face_n be_v towards_o the_o west_n his_o back_n must_v needs_o be_v towards_o the_o east_n and_o the_o reason_n why_o any_o man_n remain_v in_o a_o estate_n of_o impenitency_n be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o happy_o we_o conceive_v the_o pleasure_n or_o profit_n or_o contentment_n of_o sin_n in_o any_o kind_n as_o the_o ignorance_n of_o god_n of_o that_o infinite_a goodness_n sweetness_n mercy_n bounty_n truth_n power_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v in_o he_o though_o it_o be_v true_a also_o that_o there_o be_v band_n and_o snare_n and_o cord_n of_o vanity_n in_o sin_n which_o bound_v man_n heart_n and_o hand_n to_o it_o and_o so_o keep_v they_o fast_o make_v they_o listlesse_a and_o careless_a of_o inquire_v after_o god_n and_o his_o way_n till_o god_n by_o a_o high_a hand_n of_o grace_n prevant_n they_o with_o such_o a_o light_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o as_o do_v deliver_v they_o for_o if_o there_o be_v not_o the_o hundred_o part_n of_o that_o pleasure_n profit_n and_o contentment_n in_o sin_n which_o impenitent_a person_n grace_n &_o acceptation_n with_o he_o again_o notwithstanding_o all_o that_o sin_n do_v or_o can_v do_v to_o prevail_v with_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n to_o detain_v it_o in_o the_o love_n god_n our_o saviour_n towards_o man_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v tit._n 3._o 4._o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n will_v break_v loose_a from_o sin_n and_o cast_v all_o the_o cord_n of_o it_o from_o he_o he_o will_v turn_v his_o back_n upon_o it_o immediate_o and_o come_v about_o with_o his_o face_n towards_o god_n by_o both_o which_o consideration_n which_o be_v both_o clear_a in_o reason_n and_o may_v be_v sufficient_o confirm_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n if_o it_o be_v necessary_a it_o be_v full_o evident_a that_o the_o main_a and_o principal_a reason_n of_o any_o man_n continuance_n in_o his_o impenitency_n be_v not_o so_o much_o any_o thing_n he_o find_v in_o those_o way_n of_o sin_n wherein_o he_o live_v no_o nor_o yet_o in_o those_o corruption_n of_o nature_n which_o make_v
