wretched_a man_n that_o he_o be_v under_o a_o burden_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n and_o he_o be_v content_a to_o come_v and_o take_v their_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o deliver_v their_o soul_n from_o pain_n and_o trouble_v and_o misery_n he_o come_v not_o into_o the_o world_n to_o impose_v iron_n yoke_n but_o he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o bring_v the_o mercy_n of_o the_o father_n to_o bring_v the_o treasure_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o father_n into_o the_o world_n and_o be_v anoint_v by_o the_o father_n to_o that_o end_n that_o he_o may_v open_v prison_n door_n to_o captive_n obedience_n never_o any_o put_v his_o neck_n under_o this_o yoke_n that_o will_v have_v his_o neck_n out_o again_o that_o will_v wish_v christ_n yoke_n otherwise_o then_o it_o be_v for_o his_o active_a obedience_n and_o they_o will_v have_v the_o passive_a too_o but_o in_o the_o conclusion_n they_o will_v never_o repent_v they_o that_o ever_o they_o be_v under_o it_o but_o especial_o for_o the_o former_a there_o be_v never_o godly_a christian_n when_o they_o be_v themselves_o and_o do_v consider_v of_o thing_n except_o it_o be_v in_o time_n of_o temptation_n but_o take_v they_o at_o that_o time_n when_o they_o be_v themselves_o i_o say_v there_o be_v never_o any_o that_o can_v wish_v their_o neck_n out_o of_o christ_n yoke_n that_o can_v wish_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n easy_a than_o it_o be_v they_o will_v be_v free_v from_o nothing_o that_o christ_n require_v when_o they_o be_v themselves_o and_o understand_v thing_n it_o be_v true_a ignorant_o and_o when_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v thing_n and_o in_o time_n of_o temptation_n than_o they_o may_v do_v otherwise_o but_o take_v a_o christian_n and_o let_v he_o be_v himself_o and_o let_v he_o consider_v and_o understand_v the_o thing_n and_o there_o be_v never_o any_o that_o can_v wish_v his_o neck_n out_o of_o the_o yoke_n or_o wish_v it_o easy_a than_o it_o be_v it_o be_v true_a a_o gracious_a heart_n may_v be_v weary_a of_o himself_o because_o he_o can_v bear_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n as_o he_o will_v do_v but_o he_o be_v never_o weary_a of_o christ_n yoke_n he_o may_v be_v weary_a of_o the_o in_o a_o gracious_a manner_n oh_o communion_n much_o communion_n with_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n it_o be_v that_o that_o facilitate_v the_o way_n of_o religion_n we_o know_v in_o travel_v if_o a_o man_n be_v travel_v a_o journey_n all_o alone_o especial_o if_o he_o have_v wind_n and_o weather_n against_o he_o his_o way_n be_v tedious_a to_o he_o very_o hard_a and_o grievous_a and_o he_o be_v tire_v in_o his_o journey_n but_o now_o if_o he_o travel_v and_o have_v good_a company_n and_o good_a discourse_n and_o be_v joyful_a and_o cheerful_a when_o he_o be_v go_v his_o journey_n be_v nothing_o when_o he_o come_v to_o the_o inn_n he_o say_v i_o thank_v god_n i_o be_o not_o weary_a at_o all_o why_o be_v it_o so_o the_o journey_n be_v long_o i_o but_o the_o company_n be_v good_a the_o discourse_n be_v good_a and_o that_o make_v it_o easy_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o journey_n to_o heaven_n we_o complain_v of_o tediousness_n in_o our_o journey_n why_o be_v it_o because_o we_o exercise_v much_o faith_n faith_n do_v facilitate_v every_o action_n as_o unbelief_n make_v every_o thing_n difficult_a let_v a_o man_n be_v put_v upon_o any_o duty_n if_o he_o have_v a_o a_o work_n he_o will_v give_v i_o strength_n in_o the_o work_n and_o therefore_o let_v i_o go_v to_o the_o work_n as_o if_o i_o be_v carry_v through_o it_o already_o go_v on_o with_o confidence_n and_o resolution_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o unbelief_n up_o and_o be_v do_v and_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v with_o you_o so_o do_v you_o say_v to_o your_o soul_n when_o you_o be_v discourage_v in_o the_o work_n oh_o such_o and_o such_o have_v miscarry_v and_o how_o shall_v so_o weak_a a_o soul_n as_o i_o do_v well_o up_o and_o be_v do_v and_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v with_o you_o 14._o last_o do_v not_o satisfy_v yourselves_o that_o you_o have_v grace_n but_o labour_n to_o have_v strength_n of_o grace_n that_o be_v easy_a to_o a_o strong_a man_n that_o be_v hard_a to_o a_o weak_a now_o which_o believe_v according_a to_o the_o work_n of_o his_o mighty_a power_n mark_v this_o text_n it_o be_v not_o only_o mean_v of_o the_o greatness_n of_o god_n power_n in_o work_a faith_n in_o we_o but_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o power_n towards_o we_o who_o do_v now_o believe_v god_n do_v put_v forth_o power_n greatness_n of_o power_n and_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o mighty_a power_n and_o the_o same_o that_o he_o wrought_v in_o christ_n when_o he_o raise_v he_o from_o the_o dead_a and_o set_v he_o at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n thou_o may_v come_v to_o have_v by_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n the_o power_n of_o god_n put_v forth_o his_o almighty_a power_n to_o give_v thou_o faith_n so_o now_o by_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n thou_o may_v have_v the_o power_n of_o god_n the_o greatness_n of_o his_o power_n the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n and_o the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n and_o the_o same_o that_o god_n put_v forth_o when_o he_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a &_o set_v he_o at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n thou_o say_v thou_o have_v a_o dead_a heart_n but_o will_v not_o the_o power_n of_o god_n that_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a raise_v thy_o heart_n exercise_n faith_n lord_n i_o go_v about_o such_o a_o business_n it_o be_v difficult_a because_o of_o the_o hardness_n of_o my_o heart_n but_o lord_n will_v not_o the_o power_n that_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o grave_a raise_v my_o dead_a heart_n and_o so_o lord_z i_o have_v a_o heart_n sink_v down_o to_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n i_o but_o lord_n have_v thou_o not_o promise_v to_o put_v forth_o the_o same_o power_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o thy_o people_n that_o set_v jesus_n christ_n at_o thy_o right_a hand_n will_v not_o that_o power_n raise_v up_o my_o heart_n to_o heaven_n and_o give_v i_o a_o heavenly_a heart_n now_o here_o be_v strengthen_v of_o thy_o faith_n from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o that_o strength_n that_o the_o scripture_n hold_v forth_o that_o god_n himself_o will_v put_v forth_o into_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n upon_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n and_o so_o in_o ephes_n 3._o 16._o that_o he_o will_v grant_v unto_o you_o according_a to_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o glory_n to_o be_v strengthen_v with_o might_n by_o his_o spirit_n in_o the_o inner_a man_n what_o a_o heap_n of_o expression_n be_v here_o therefore_o i_o put_v you_o upon_o this_o not_o to_o content_v yourselves_o with_o weak_a grace_n for_o there_o be_v abundance_n of_o strength_n not_o only_o as_o we_o read_v of_o paul_n 1_o cor._n 9_o 27._o the_o text_n say_v he_o beat_v down_o his_o body_n lest_o after_o he_o have_v preach_v unto_o other_o he_o himself_o shall_v be_v a_o reprobate_n not_o to_o afflict_v ourselves_o as_o papist_n to_o be_v whip_v ourselves_o and_o to_o do_v those_o thing_n that_o god_n never_o aequire_v at_o our_o hand_n but_o so_o far_o as_o any_o way_n god_n shall_v require_v it_o such_o a_o one_o be_v willing_a to_o afflict_v itself_o before_o the_o lord_n the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o heart_n in_o this_o thing_n be_v that_o it_o be_v not_o solicitous_a so_o much_o for_o comfort_n as_o to_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v afflict_v before_o the_o lord_n so_o far_o as_o god_n will_v have_v it_o afflict_v so_o now_o put_v all_o these_o together_o and_o you_o may_v see_v the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o lowly_a heart_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o 1._o it_o be_v suspicious_a of_o itself_o jealous_a lest_o theâ—e_n shall_v be_v some_o secret_a evil_n in_o the_o heart_n that_o it_o do_v nor_o know_v of_o 2._o it_o be_v willing_a to_o know_v the_o worst_a of_o itself_o 3._o it_o look_v often_o to_o its_o poor_a beginning_n 4._o it_o be_v ashamed_a of_o itself_o and_o thâ—t_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o its_o own_o excellency_n 5._o it_o loathe_v and_o abhor_v itself_o before_o the_o lord_n 6._o it_o judge_v itself_o 7._o it_o deny_v itself_o 8._o it_o heart_n now_o have_v these_o working_n in_o they_o in_o reference_n to_o yourselves_o you_o may_v by_o this_o examine_v whether_o you_o have_v humble_a and_z lowly_a heart_n yea_o or_o no._n chap._n cxxv_o three_o consequence_n from_o the_o former_a point_n and_o from_o all_o these_o thing_n there_o be_v these_o three_o consequence_n consequence_n 1._o first_n here_o you_o may_v see_v how_o to_o examine_v your_o own_o heart_n in_o respect_n of_o humility_n whether_o you_o find_v these_o working_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n in_o respect_n of_o yourselves_o lay_v these_o and_o your_o heart_n level_v examine_v and_o call_v your_o heart_n to_o a_o account_n when_o you_o get_v alone_o by_o these_o twelve_o forego_v particular_n ask_v thyself_o as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n be_v my_o heart_n thus_o have_v i_o this_o lowly_a heart_n christ_n will_v have_v i_o of_o a_o lowly_a heart_n thus_o if_o you_o can_v find_v these_o charge_v yourselves_o with_o the_o want_n of_o they_o and_o take_v a_o advantage_n even_o from_o the_o want_n of_o they_o to_o humble_v your_o heart_n before_o the_o lord_n because_o you_o have_v not_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v the_o genuine_a and_o natural_a working_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n for_o so_o they_o be_v if_o you_o can_v find_v your_o heart_n come_v off_o in_o in_o these_o particular_n in_o a_o natural_a way_n from_o a_o renew_a nature_n you_o may_v have_v abundance_n of_o comfort_n that_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n of_o lowliness_n that_o christ_n will_v have_v you_o learn_v be_v wrought_v in_o your_o soul_n you_o have_v be_v a_o proficient_a in_o christ_n school_n but_o many_o may_v have_v cause_n upon_o the_o hear_n of_o this_o to_o charge_v themselves_o with_o this_o that_o they_o scarce_o have_v begin_v to_o learn_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n to_o learn_v humility_n consequence_n 2._o second_o another_o consequence_n be_v this_o upon_o the_o consideration_n of_o these_o several_a working_n of_o humility_n in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o we_o may_v see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v very_o much_o inward_a it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o reflection_n upon_o ourselves_o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o do_v in_o a_o christian_n life_n but_o that_o that_o be_v external_a to_o perform_v some_o outward_a duty_n to_o come_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o speak_v good_a thing_n and_o pray_v and_o make_v a_o outward_a profession_n the_o life_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o easy_a but_o from_o this_o that_o you_o hear_v from_o the_o work_n of_o this_o one_o grace_n of_o humility_n you_o may_v see_v that_o the_o work_n of_o a_o christian_a lie_n much_o within_o door_n that_o christian_n shall_v be_v very_o busy_a within_o their_o heart_n there_o be_v many_o working_n within_o rather_o then_o without_o and_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v profess_v yourselves_o to_o be_v christian_n and_o will_v indeed_o have_v the_o power_n of_o godliness_n in_o your_o heart_n you_o must_v work_v â—uch_o inward_o there_o must_v be_v much_o reflection_n upon_o your_o own_o heart_n consequence_n 3._o three_o and_o last_o another_o consequence_n be_v this_o by_o this_o that_o you_o have_v hear_v what_o the_o work_n of_o a_o humble_a heart_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o be_v we_o may_v take_v notice_n of_o the_o great_a power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a wheresoever_o grace_n be_v wrought_v jesus_n christ_n be_v very_o powerful_a and_o very_a strong_a in_o that_o heart_n certain_o these_o thing_n can_v never_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o poor_a wretched_a sinner_n yea_o in_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v natural_o very_o proud_a for_o so_o we_o be_v all_o and_o be_v not_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n very_o powerful_a in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o christian_a these_o thing_n can_v never_o be_v wherefore_o when_o you_o hear_v that_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o a_o heart_n work_v thus_o we_o may_v conclude_v sure_o the_o power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v very_o mighty_a and_o very_o strong_a well_o thus_o you_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o humility_n present_v to_o you_o towards_o god_n and_o yourselves_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o be_v of_o lowly_a heart_n and_o be_v not_o at_o rest_n until_o you_o find_v these_o kind_n of_o working_n in_o your_o spirit_n chap._n cxxvi_o the_o first_o property_n of_o humility_n in_o respect_n of_o uther_n be_v that_o it_o think_v better_a of_o other_o than_o itself_o which_o be_v lay_v open_a in_o divers_a particular_a answer_n unto_o several_a doubt_n and_o objection_n there_o be_v yet_o one_o of_o these_o three_o thing_n to_o be_v speak_v unto_o in_o this_o grace_n of_o humility_n which_o be_v the_o three_o particular_a what_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a our_o brethren_n now_o than_o the_o first_o thing_n wherein_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a heart_n be_v in_o reference_n unto_o other_o and_o a_o principal_a thing_n it_o be_v of_o very_o be_v a_o argument_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n indeed_o it_o be_v true_a god_n do_v give_v you_o leave_v if_o the_o matter_n be_v of_o consequence_n if_o any_o one_o shall_v walk_v in_o a_o way_n that_o you_o shall_v take_v upon_o you_o in_o your_o conscience_n that_o it_o be_v a_o just_a offence_n to_o you_o to_o desire_v and_o you_o may_v demand_v a_o reason_n of_o they_o and_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o give_v you_o a_o reason_n for_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o give_v a_o reason_n of_o our_o faith_n if_o you_o come_v mere_o in_o humility_n to_o ask_v a_o reason_n of_o any_o of_o our_o way_n so_o as_o that_o you_o may_v not_o be_v offend_v and_o we_o see_v that_o it_o be_v through_o tenderness_n of_o spirit_n that_o you_o be_v offend_v we_o ought_v to_o give_v account_n to_o any_o that_o we_o walk_v with_o i_o do_v not_o speak_v of_o any_o one_o in_o any_o society_n only_o that_o shall_v demand_v a_o reason_n but_o if_o any_o man_n live_v upon_o the_o earth_n shall_v come_v in_o a_o humble_a way_n not_o in_o a_o peremptory_a proud_a and_o contentious_a way_n to_o know_v and_o desire_v to_o know_v the_o ground_n and_o reason_n of_o our_o action_n because_o they_o fear_v our_o he_o have_v to_o you_o and_o so_o rather_o to_o leave_v they_o to_o god_n then_o to_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v offend_v or_o still_o continue_v to_o be_v offend_v because_o they_o do_v not_o do_v as_o you_o do_v and_o do_v not_o judge_v what_o you_o do_v to_o be_v right_a there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o natural_a complexion_n of_o some_o as_o for_o example_n some_o have_v not_o their_o spirit_n so_o take_v with_o the_o thing_n of_o religion_n as_o other_o have_v and_o yet_o be_v very_o faithful_a to_o god_n and_o keep_v close_o to_o god_n truth_n they_o come_v in_o by_o degree_n one_o after_o another_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o notorious_a and_o abominable_a pride_n in_o man_n to_o judge_n of_o other_o that_o they_o shut_v their_o eye_n against_o the_o light_n and_o that_o they_o sin_n against_o their_o conscience_n because_o they_o do_v not_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o do_v that_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n in_o the_o behaviour_n of_o a_o humble_a spirit_n in_o respect_n of_o other_o it_o be_v afraid_a of_o give_v offence_n to_o other_o and_o it_o be_v not_o ready_a to_o take_v offence_n from_o other_o chap._n cxxviii_o other_o property_n of_o humility_n in_o respect_n of_o other_o 3._o it_o give_v due_a honour_n to_o all_o with_o who_o it_o do_v converse_v 4._o it_o rejoice_v in_o their_o good_a 5._o it_o be_v willing_a she_o must_v honour_v her_o husband_n above_o all_o as_o one_o that_o god_n have_v set_v above_o she_o and_o so_o servant_n to_o honour_v their_o governor_n though_o they_o be_v of_o great_a parentage_n may_v be_v better_o than_o your_o master_n or_o mistress_n yet_o god_n have_v set_v they_o over_o you_o you_o be_v to_o give_v due_a honour_n and_o respect_n to_o they_o this_o a_o of_o low_a estate_n you_o must_v be_v affable_a in_o your_o carriage_n to_o man_n and_o woman_n you_o must_v not_o scorn_v not_o look_v with_o disdain_n upon_o any_o though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o much_o under_o you_o have_v god_n place_v you_o above_o they_o give_v you_o a_o high_a place_n in_o estate_n give_v you_o more_o riches_n better_a part_n better_a employment_n than_o they_o have_v the_o high_a god_n shall_v i_o come_v before_o he_o with_o burn_a offering_n and_o calf_n of_o a_o year_n old_a will_v the_o lord_n be_v please_v with_o thousand_o of_o ram_n or_o with_o ten_o 9_o 12._o he_o forget_v not_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a if_o a_o humble_a man_n cry_v oh_o it_o take_v deep_a impression_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n it_o will_v not_o go_v â—ut_v of_o his_o mind_n for_o a_o long_a time_n together_o as_o you_o know_v some_o thing_n that_o be_v speak_v that_o take_v the_o heart_n be_v not_o easy_o forget_v as_o when_o you_o come_v to_o a_o sermon_n if_o you_o hear_v something_o that_o be_v speak_v that_o take_v the_o heart_n it_o will_v abide_v with_o you_o it_o will_v not_o easy_o be_v forget_v so_o here_o he_o will_v not_o forget_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v oh_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a do_v so_o take_v my_o heart_n that_o i_o can_v forget_v it_o it_o may_v be_v sometime_o when_o you_o go_v abroad_o and_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o some_o miserable_a people_n you_o can_v forget_v it_o you_o say_v o_o i_o think_v in_o the_o night_n and_o whatever_o i_o be_o about_o i_o hear_v the_o cry_n of_o such_o a_o one_o there_o be_v the_o cry_n of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n in_o my_o ear_n so_o say_v god_n whatever_o i_o be_o about_o i_o think_v the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a be_v in_o my_o ear_n i_o can_v forget_v it_o and_o therefore_o say_v the_o psalmist_n in_o psal_n 10._o 12._o arise_v o_o lord_n o_o god_n lift_v up_o thy_o hand_n forget_v not_o the_o humble_a he_o do_v not_o instance_n in_o any_o other_o qualification_n but_o the_o humble_a do_v not_o forget_v the_o humble_a the_o lord_n he_o can_v pass_v by_o king_n and_o prince_n and_o great_a one_o but_o he_o will_v not_o forget_v the_o humble_a as_o i_o remember_v that_o famous_a mr._n fox_n that_o write_v the_o book_n of_o martyr_n when_o a_o poor_a woman_n come_v to_o beg_v of_o he_o his_o prayer_n well_o say_v he_o i_o may_v forget_v king_n and_o prince_n but_o i_o hope_v i_o shall_v never_o forget_v a_o humble_a break_a soul_n this_o be_v god_n respect_n to_o the_o humble_a and_o then_o in_o psal_n 10._o 17._o lord_n thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a thou_o will_v prepare_v their_o heart_n thou_o will_v incline_v thy_o ear_n to_o hear_v a_o humble_a heart_n if_o he_o have_v but_o a_o desire_n present_o god_n hear_v it_o mark_n thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a he_o do_v not_o say_v thou_o have_v hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o the_o humble_a but_o thou_o have_v hear_v the_o desire_n of_o the_o humble_a the_o very_a desire_n of_o a_o humble_a soul_n cry_v aloud_o in_o god_n ear_n and_o therefore_o by_o the_o way_n of_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n take_v heed_n of_o wrong_v those_o that_o be_v humble_a take_v heed_n of_o do_v wrong_a to_o one_o that_o have_v a_o lowly_a heart_n if_o such_o a_o one_o that_o have_v a_o break_a heart_n go_v and_o make_v his_o moan_n to_o god_n woe_n unto_o thou_o for_o no_o cry_n take_v such_o mighty_a impression_n in_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o cry_n of_o the_o humble_a if_o it_o be_v twenty_o year_n after_o he_o ingredient_n for_o the_o prevalency_n of_o prayer_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o excellency_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o humility_n seven_o further_n a_o humble_a heart_n be_v a_o try_a heart_n no_o man_n or_o woman_n know_v their_o own_o heart_n but_o those_o that_o be_v humble_a thou_o can_v not_o know_v thy_o own_o heart_n till_o thou_o be_v humble_a there_o be_v many_o afraid_a lest_o they_o shall_v be_v deceive_v they_o cry_v out_o o_o my_o heart_n be_v deceitful_a and_o i_o may_v deceive_v myself_o and_o perish_v at_o last_o will_v thou_o prevent_v this_o will_v thou_o not_o be_v they_o do_v they_o do_v it_o with_o a_o grace_n there_o be_v no_o christian_n that_o do_v thing_n with_o such_o a_o grace_n as_o the_o humble_a and_o it_o be_v that_o that_o do_v adorn_v all_o grace_n humility_n grace_v all_o grace_n whatsoever_o ten_o and_o then_o it_o be_v that_o that_o preserve_v all_o grace_n too_o and_o so_o some_o take_v the_o word_n there_o to_o come_v from_o a_o word_n that_o signify_v a_o knot_n because_o it_o tie_v all_o grace_n as_o it_o be_v with_o fast_a knot_n together_o as_o i_o find_v some_o interpreter_n carry_v the_o word_n it_o unite_v and_o knit_v and_o unite_n the_o soul_n to_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o grace_n it_o be_v the_o preservative_n of_o all_o grace_n eleven_o and_o again_o humility_n it_o be_v that_o that_o make_v all_o duty_n and_o apply_v altogether_o the_o promise_n here_o make_v to_o those_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v now_o i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o open_v the_o rest_n that_o a_o christian_n heart_n have_v that_o come_v to_o christ_n that_o have_v be_v do_v at_o large_a in_o the_o former_a verse_n come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v therefore_o here_o i_o shall_v only_o show_v how_o humility_n and_o lowliness_n of_o heart_n give_v rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v i_o confess_v a_o great_a correspondency_n between_o those_o two_o grace_n and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v speak_v the_o less_o now_o of_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o humility_n because_o there_o be_v a_o great_a affinity_n between_o this_o and_o meekness_n now_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n must_v needs_o live_v at_o rest_n first_o because_o such_o a_o one_o dare_v not_o venture_v upon_o any_o thing_n before_o he_o see_v god_n call_v a_o bold_a spirit_n will_v venture_v upon_o any_o thing_n when_o he_o have_v not_o god_n call_v and_o there_o he_o meet_v with_o trouble_n but_o now_o a_o lowly_a spirit_n think_v thus_o be_v this_o god_n way_n have_v i_o a_o word_n for_o it_o and_o a_o call_v for_o it_o if_o i_o have_v let_v i_o go_v on_o whatever_o come_v of_o it_o if_o he_o meet_v with_o trouble_n in_o such_o a_o business_n if_o he_o can_v say_v i_o undertake_v it_o thus_o i_o have_v god_n call_v what_o abundance_n of_o rest_n have_v he_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o man_n be_v disquiet_v in_o the_o world_n and_o trouble_v it_o be_v because_o they_o rush_v upon_o thing_n without_o god_n call_v when_o the_o soul_n can_v appeal_v to_o god_n lord_n i_o will_v not_o undertake_v such_o a_o thing_n nor_o such_o a_o thing_n though_o i_o say_v there_o may_v be_v some_o preferment_n by_o it_o and_o somewhat_o get_v by_o it_o yet_o lord_n thou_o see_v the_o uprightness_n of_o my_o heart_n that_o i_o will_v not_o venture_v upon_o it_o without_o thy_o call_v and_o then_o when_o i_o see_v that_o i_o venture_v upon_o it_o such_o a_o soul_n must_v needs_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o quiet_a second_o one_o that_o be_v humble_a have_v rest_n because_o he_o can_v never_o be_v in_o so_o low_a a_o condition_n but_o his_o heart_n be_v low_a than_o his_o condition_n this_o be_v a_o excellent_a frame_n of_o spirit_n though_o my_o estate_n be_v low_a yet_o my_o heart_n be_v low_a if_o you_o be_v able_a to_o say_v so_o you_o that_o have_v low_a estate_n your_o care_n be_v how_o you_o can_v raise_v your_o estate_n if_o i_o can_v raise_v my_o estate_n as_o high_a as_o other_o then_o i_o shall_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o peace_n and_o comfort_n no_o thy_o way_n must_v be_v to_o lowen_v thy_o heart_n that_o be_v the_o way_n to_o raise_v thy_o estate_n if_o a_o man_n affliction_n be_v above_o his_o heart_n and_o his_o heart_n beneath_o the_o affliction_n if_o the_o fire_n he_o under_o the_o fuel_n than_o the_o fire_n quick_o catch_v the_o fuel_n but_o now_o if_o the_o fire_n be_v above_o the_o fuel_n it_o will_v not_o so_o soon_o kinkle_v it_o so_o i_o say_v in_o a_o man_n affliction_n if_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v above_o his_o affliction_n i_o mean_v in_o a_o sinful_a way_n he_o have_v lift_v up_o his_o heart_n and_o he_o will_v have_v high_a thing_n than_o these_o thing_n be_v and_o these_o thing_n be_v beneath_o his_o spirit_n he_o have_v a_o high_a design_n and_o plot_n and_o aim_v at_o great_a thing_n and_o these_o thing_n be_v beneath_o what_o he_o will_v have_v oh_o then_o the_o affliction_n trouble_v the_o spirit_n but_o when_o a_o man_n spirit_n be_v beneath_o his_o affliction_n then_o a_o man_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o quiet_a he_o be_v low_a than_o his_o affliction_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v quiet_a three_o another_o thing_n in_o the_o lowliness_n of_o heart_n that_o do_v bring_v quietness_n and_o have_v affinity_n with_o it_o be_v this_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n have_v never_o any_o disappointment_n in_o the_o world_n nothing_o be_v more_o troublesome_a and_o disquiet_v to_o a_o man_n spirit_n then_o disappointment_n now_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n he_o expect_v no_o great_a matter_n in_o this_o world_n and_o therefore_o he_o can_v be_v much_o disappoint_v in_o any_o thing_n that_o befall_v and_o so_o he_o be_v quiet_a you_o that_o have_v great_a plot_n and_o design_n in_o your_o head_n and_o make_v account_n of_o great_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n there_o will_v follow_v many_o cross_n that_o will_v disappoint_v you_o and_o how_o do_v they_o disquiet_v you_o you_o may_v account_v of_o such_o a_o voyage_n and_o when_o it_o be_v lose_v how_o unquiet_a be_v you_o whereas_o one_o that_o be_v lowly_a in_o heart_n he_o be_v quiet_a and_o go_v on_o in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o that_o be_v that_o he_o look_v to_o most_o to_o go_v on_o in_o his_o call_n in_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o leave_v the_o issue_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n come_v in_o he_o receive_v it_o thankful_o because_o he_o be_v most_o unworthy_a if_o he_o be_v cross_v he_o be_v not_o much_o disappoint_v because_o he_o look_v for_o no_o high_a thing_n four_o a_o humble_a heart_n must_v needs_o bring_v rest_n because_o this_o be_v the_o guise_n and_o frame_v of_o it_o it_o will_v have_v god_n to_o have_v his_o glory_n his_o own_o way_n and_o this_o one_o principle_n oh_o what_o abundance_n of_o quiet_a and_o rest_n will_v it_o bring_v to_o a_o man_n spirit_n that_o god_n shall_v have_v his_o glory_n we_o all_o yield_v to_o that_o i_o but_o
yoke_n of_o christ_n but_o be_v they_o come_v in_o they_o will_v not_o find_v it_o so_o difficult_a sometime_o indeed_o the_o work_n of_o god_n in_o convert_v of_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o it_o so_o as_o the_o soul_n find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difficulty_n the_o ministry_n of_o john_n by_o way_n of_o preparation_n come_v in_o a_o terrible_a way_n to_o make_v smooth_a the_o rough_a path_n and_o level_v the_o lofty_a hill_n come_v in_o a_o fiery_a way_n to_o prepare_v they_o many_o time_n it_o be_v very_o terrible_a and_o they_o find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difficulty_n much_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n and_o terror_n at_o first_o i_o but_o this_o be_v but_o to_o get_v â—hy_a neck_n into_o the_o yoke_n this_o be_v not_o the_o difficulty_n of_o christ_n yoke_n but_o it_o be_v the_o bring_v thou_o under_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n therefore_o let_v not_o those_o that_o god_n be_v beginning_n to_o stir_v they_o in_o awaknâ—ng_v their_o conscience_n be_v offend_v because_o they_o find_v difficulty_n because_o they_o find_v the_o way_n of_o god_n terrible_a to_o they_o and_o conscience_n terrible_a to_o they_o and_o they_o find_v the_o flash_n of_o hell_n upon_o their_o spirit_n be_v not_o offend_v because_o thou_o have_v more_o trouble_n now_o then_o before_o it_o be_v but_o in_o get_v that_o unruly_a spirit_n of_o thou_o under_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n if_o once_o thy_o spirit_n be_v subdue_v to_o jesus_n christ_n and_o bring_v under_o his_o yoke_n thou_o will_v not_o find_v it_o so_o terrible_a and_o it_o may_v be_v the_o more_o terror_n thou_o have_v now_o the_o more_o sweetness_n and_o comfort_n thou_o will_v find_v afterward_o three_o thou_o complain_v of_o difficulty_n that_o thou_o find_v in_o god_n way_n do_v not_o therefore_o complain_v of_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v from_o the_o distemper_n of_o thy_o own_o heart_n not_o from_o christ_n yoke_n we_o know_v that_o a_o light_a yoke_n to_o one_o that_o have_v a_o sore_a neck_n seem_v to_o be_v very_o grievous_a but_o the_o fault_n be_v not_o in_o the_o yoke_n but_o in_o the_o soreness_n of_o the_o neck_n if_o the_o neck_n be_v sound_a and_o make_v whole_a the_o yoke_n will_v seem_v light_n so_o it_o be_v with_o many_o that_o profess_v religion_n and_o it_o may_v be_v have_v true_a grace_n they_o find_v the_o yoke_n very_o haâ—d_a to_o they_o and_o they_o complain_v of_o the_o yoke_n and_o think_v that_o which_o christ_n require_v of_o they_o be_v grievous_a to_o they_o but_o true_o it_o be_v the_o distemper_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o the_o unsoundness_n of_o thy_o spirit_n that_o make_v it_o so_o if_o so_o be_v thy_o heart_n be_v but_o heal_v if_o thy_o hearâ—_n be_v but_o sound_a thou_o will_v not_o find_v any_o such_o difficulty_n in_o any_o way_n of_o christ_n in_o 2_o tim._n 1._o 7._o there_o the_o spirit_n of_o power_n of_o love_n and_o of_o a_o sound_a mind_n be_v join_v together_o where_o there_o be_v a_o sound_a mind_n a_o sound_a spirit_n theâ—e_n will_v be_v power_n there_o will_v be_v strength_n there_o will_v be_v love_n and_o sweetness_n but_o where_o the_o mind_n and_o the_o heart_n be_v unsound_a and_o distemper_v there_o you_o will_v find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difficulty_n in_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n so_o that_o i_o say_v where_o you_o find_v the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n difficult_a do_v not_o complain_v of_o that_o so_o much_o as_o of_o your_o own_o heart_n and_o labour_n to_o heal_v your_o own_o soul_n and_o then_o it_o it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o difficult_a and_o that_o be_v the_o three_o answer_n i_o will_v give_v to_o the_o godly_a that_o yet_o find_v difficulty_n in_o the_o way_n of_o religion_n it_o be_v not_o because_o of_o the_o yoke_n but_o it_o be_v because_o you_o be_v not_o enough_o under_o the_o yoke_n that_o be_v the_o difficulty_n if_o your_o heart_n be_v under_o it_o more_o than_o it_o be_v it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o difficult_a and_o this_o expression_n may_v serve_v to_o enlighten_v we_o into_o the_o four_o answer_n which_o be_v this_o four_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v hard_o but_o it_o be_v because_o of_o the_o disorder_a carriage_n of_o thy_o spirit_n when_o thou_o be_v under_o it_o not_o only_o from_o a_o distemper_a heart_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v distemper_n and_o habitual_a corruption_n but_o now_o when_o thou_o be_v do_v a_o duty_n thou_o do_v behave_v thyself_o in_o a_o disorderly_a way_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o duty_n the_o disorderly_a behaviour_n of_o thy_o heart_n in_o it_o or_o every_o week_n you_o will_v be_v fit_a for_o it_o now_o people_n think_v it_o a_o great_a matter_n and_o make_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o do_v about_o receive_v of_o it_o often_o whereas_o the_o truth_n be_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v be_v in_o as_o great_a a_o readiness_n to_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n as_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n or_o to_o pray_v and_o that_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a ease_n unto_o they_o therefore_o if_o thing_n be_v as_o they_o shall_v certain_o it_o will_v be_v more_o convenient_a to_o have_v it_o more_o ordinary_a and_o constant_a every_o you_o will_v say_v that_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o toil_n and_o labour_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n always_o bend_v and_o ready_a to_o good_a work_n to_o that_o i_o answer_v at_o first_o it_o may_v be_v some_o labour_n and_o toil_n but_o those_o that_o have_v once_o get_v their_o heart_n into_o a_o readiness_n find_v it_o not_o so_o hard_a but_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n
