as_o the_o last_o thing_n observe_v from_o these_o word_n viz._n to_o let_v you_o see_v how_o efficacious_a the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v unto_o the_o support_a of_o believer_n in_o any_o tribulation_n sermon_n vi._n ephes._n 3_o ver._n 19_o and_o to_o know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n he_o that_o be_v but_o little_o skill_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o face_n of_o time_n may_v very_o well_o see_v that_o these_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v be_v very_o sad_a calamity_n lie_v upon_o every_o creature_n and_o woe_n have_v as_o it_o be_v enter_v upon_o the_o stage_n of_o the_o world_n and_o act_n a_o very_a bloody_a part_n to_o the_o terror_n of_o all_o even_o believer_n themselves_o some_o put_v on_o black_a and_o walk_v disconsolate_o yea_o almost_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v clad_v in_o mourning_n as_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o misery_n under_o which_o most_o of_o the_o world_n at_o this_o day_n groan_v in_o these_o time_n therefore_o what_o can_v be_v more_o suitable_a to_o our_o thought_n than_o to_o consider_v of_o that_o which_o may_v serve_v to_o support_v our_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o such_o as_o be_v weak_a and_o liable_a to_o faint_n to_o carry_v about_o they_o some_o cordial_a or_o other_o to_o revive_v they_o and_o it_o shall_v be_v doubtless_o the_o wisdom_n of_o believer_n who_o be_v liable_a always_o to_o tribulation_n to_o lay_v in_o something_o which_o may_v keep_v they_o from_o faint_v under_o these_o tribulation_n indeed_o our_o lord_n jesus_n out_o of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n have_v prepare_v and_o provide_v rich_a and_o glorious_a cordial_n to_o support_v the_o soul_n of_o he_o and_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n especial_o who_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o help_v believer_n with_o these_o cordial_n which_o our_o lord_n and_o their_o lord_n have_v prepare_v and_o therefore_o while_o other_o forget_v not_o only_o the_o saint_n but_o themselves_o take_v leave_n to_o press_v and_o urge_v great_a thing_n as_o matter_n of_o faith_n upon_o poor_a soul_n as_o if_o they_o have_v dominion_n over_o their_o faith_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o imitate_v the_o great_a apostle_n paul_n rather_o to_o show_v my_o self_n a_o helper_n of_o your_o joy_n ult_n 2_o cor._n 1._o ult_n than_o a_o lord_n of_o your_o faith_n it_o be_v this_o indeed_o which_o paul_n be_v much_o upon_o viz._n the_o furtherance_n of_o the_o joy_n and_o comfort_n of_o believer_n and_o it_o be_v this_o which_o he_o drive_v at_o in_o these_o word_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n for_o fear_v lest_o the_o news_n of_o these_o trouble_n in_o which_o he_o be_v shall_v so_o far_o trouble_v the_o ephesian_n as_o to_o make_v they_o faint_a he_o therefore_o bow_v his_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o he_o will_v be_v please_v to_o give_v they_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n that_o so_o by_o it_o their_o spirit_n may_v be_v keep_v from_o faint_a either_o at_o the_o news_n of_o he_o or_o fear_v of_o their_o own_o tribulation_n this_o be_v therefore_o the_o end_n why_o paul_n pray_v to_o god_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n i_o do_v observe_v this_o doctrine_n from_o it_o viz._n that_o the_o spiritual_a knowledge_n of_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n towards_o he_o be_v of_o special_a efficacy_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n from_o faint_v under_o any_o trouble_n i_o suppose_v you_o easy_o see_v both_o the_o foundation_n and_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o point_n in_o this_o place_n yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v both_o the_o clear_a let_v i_o hint_n these_o three_o thing_n first_o consider_v it_o that_o the_o apostle_n suppose_v that_o the_o ephesiant_a heart_n be_v apt_a to_o faint_v at_o their_o tribulation_n at_o the_o 13_o verse_n his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v do_v clear_o intimate_v this_o that_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v indeed_o the_o child_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o only_o prone_a to_o fear_v but_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v in_o those_o fear_n second_o observe_v how_o upon_o this_o fear_n of_o the_o apostle_n lest_o they_o may_v faint_v or_o if_o you_o will_v upon_o his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o fall_v to_o prayer_n and_o make_v it_o his_o request_n to_o god_n who_o alone_a royalty_n be_v to_o support_v the_o faint_a spirit_n of_o all_o the_o creature_n that_o be_v will_v be_v please_v to_o keep_v they_o from_o faint_v for_o say_v he_o for_o this_o cause_n i_o how_o my_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n that_o be_v upon_o this_o desire_n of_o i_o that_o you_o may_v not_o faint_a i_o bow_v my_o knee_n to_o he_o who_o alone_o be_v able_a to_o support_v your_o spirit_n three_o consider_v that_o among_o the_o rest_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o in_o their_o behalf_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o pray_v for_o this_o in_o the_o text_n as_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n and_o indeed_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o all_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n have_v pray_v for_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n in_o their_o behalf_n lie_v in_o this_o last_o and_o happy_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o bring_v in_o this_o as_o the_o last_o particular_a be_v as_o it_o be_v that_o last_o cordial_a which_o he_o pray_v for_o in_o their_o behalf_n and_o if_o it_o have_v fail_v he_o know_v not_o as_o it_o be_v what_o to_o ask_v of_o god_n for_o they_o this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o last_o dosis_n of_o the_o doctor_n which_o if_o it_o help_v not_o the_o patient_a the_o doctor_n be_v at_o a_o stand_n and_o be_v puzzle_v and_o know_v not_o what_o else_o to_o give_v so_o that_o i_o suppose_v you_o may_v easy_o see_v not_o only_o the_o foot_n that_o this_o text_n afford_v for_o this_o truth_n but_o also_o a_o great_a and_o solid_a proof_n of_o the_o truth_n thereof_o in_o it_o and_o yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v this_o truth_n more_o clear_o from_o this_o place_n i_o will_v in_o a_o word_n show_v you_o how_o that_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o other_o cordial_n which_o he_o here_o pray_v for_o be_v as_o it_o be_v wrap_v up_o in_o this_o viz._n the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n for_o consider_v first_o he_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v be_v strengthen_v in_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o his_o spirit_n verse_n 16._o now_o what_o be_v that_o strength_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o the_o spirit_n but_o that_o divine_a and_o spiritual_a joy_n which_o be_v through_o he_o the_o joy_n of_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v strength_n nehem_n 8.10_o now_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o demonstrate_v that_o the_o chief_a ground_n upon_o which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v build_v that_o joy_n which_o through_o he_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o believer_n be_v this_o viz._n the_o shed_v abroad_o of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o christ_n have_v promise_v to_o send_v the_o spirit_n as_o a_o comforter_n to_o believer_n he_o say_v that_o he_o i.e._n the_o spirit_n shall_v take_v of_o i_o and_o show_v unto_o you_o john_n 16._o for_o 14_o &_o 15._o now_o what_o be_v there_o in_o all_o jesus_n christ_n of_o sweet_a efficacy_n and_o power_n which_o the_o spirit_n can_v take_v and_o declare_v to_o believer_n than_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o love_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n so_o that_o if_o the_o strengthen_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v that_o which_o help_v to_o support_v thy_o soul_n from_o faint_a and_o if_o that_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v by_o a_o creation_n of_o divine_a joy_n or_o bring_v of_o divine_a comfort_n and_o that_o bring_v of_o comfort_n in_o the_o spirit_n depend_v upon_o reveal_v something_o of_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o soul_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o this_o cordial_a lie_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o alone_o the_o spirit_n be_v able_a to_o bring_v in_o as_o it_o be_v from_o christ_n heart_n and_o shed_v it_o into_o the_o heart_n of_o believer_n for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n second_o the_o apostle_n do_v pray_v as_o a_o mean_n to_o keep_v the_o ephesian_n from_o faint_v that_o christ_n may_v dwell_v in_o their_o heart_n by_o faith_n ver_fw-la 17._o now_o a_o very_a few_o thought_n will_v discover_v that_o the_o strength_n of_o this_o comfort_n do_v lie_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n love_n for_o whereas_o the_o soul_n may_v
and_o the_o point_n will_v bear_v you_o out_o in_o it_o for_o you_o have_v such_o a_o love_n as_o be_v not_o to_o be_v find_v in_o all_o the_o world_n beside_o have_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n you_o have_v that_o love_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n and_o sure_o believer_n if_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n think_v they_o have_v good_a ground_n to_o glory_n in_o this_o that_o they_o enjoy_v the_o low_a love_n though_o of_o some_o seem_a great_a creature_n you_o have_v much_o more_o ground_n to_o rejoice_v who_o enjoy_v this_o high_a love_n of_o he_o who_o be_v indeed_o great_a than_o all_o the_o creature_n jesus_n christ_n do_v man_n think_v they_o have_v just_a ground_n to_o sit_v and_o glory_n in_o that_o they_o sip_v the_o puddle_n drop_v of_o creature_n love_n have_v not_o you_o more_o ground_n and_o that_o just_a and_o true_a to_o sing_v and_o glory_n in_o this_o that_o you_o drink_v in_o the_o pure_a love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n which_o be_v so_o sweet_a so_o excellent_a and_o so_o transcendent_a as_o that_o it_o pass_v knowledge_n three_o in_o as_o much_o as_o christ_n love_v believer_n with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n then_o see_v here_o the_o rise_n and_o ground_n of_o all_o that_o which_o christ_n do_v for_o they_o you_o wonder_v believer_n at_o least_o you_o may_v and_o that_o just_o whence_o it_o be_v that_o christ_n do_v so_o much_o for_o you_o one_o while_o he_o be_v fill_v you_o with_o his_o unsearchable_a riches_n another_o while_n he_o be_v crown_v you_o with_o his_o own_o glory_n now_o you_o have_v he_o give_v you_o choice_a gift_n and_o anon_o you_o have_v he_o bring_v of_o you_o choice_n grace_n in_o this_o duty_n you_o have_v he_o embrace_v of_o your_o soul_n in_o his_o arm_n and_o in_o that_o duty_n you_o find_v he_o kiss_v you_o with_o the_o kiss_n of_o his_o lip_n and_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o cry_v out_o whence_o be_v it_o that_o christ_n do_v all_o this_o for_o i_o one_o while_o thou_o be_v sick_a and_o christ_n visit_v thou_o and_o make_v thy_o bed_n and_o sit_v by_o thy_o bed_n side_n other_o while_o thou_o go_v abroad_o and_o christ_n walk_v with_o thou_o and_o thou_o lean_v upon_o he_o as_o upon_o thy_o belove_a now_o thou_o be_v in_o the_o wilderness_n it_o may_v be_v under_o some_o banishment_n and_o christ_n come_v to_o thou_o and_o anon_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o be_v in_o prison_n under_o some_o restraint_n and_o christ_n visit_v thou_o there_o too_o and_o all_o this_o make_v thou_o cry_v out_o whence_o be_v it_o that_o my_o lord_n shall_v thus_o come_v to_o i_o why_o see_v the_o point_n and_o in_o that_o see_v the_o cause_n he_o love_v thou_o o_o believer_n and_o he_o love_v thou_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o he_o do_v all_o that_o he_o do_v for_o thou_o and_o give_v all_o that_o he_o bestow_v on_o thou_o you_o wonder_v why_o christ_n shall_v sanctify_v such_o unsanctified_a heart_n as_o you_o be_v &_o cleanse_v by_o the_o wash_n of_o water_n and_o by_o the_o word_n such_o impure_a spirit_n as_o you_o be_v and_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v whence_o be_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n of_o glory_n shall_v stoop_v to_o wash_v such_o a_o creature_n as_o i_o be_o whence_o be_v it_o that_o he_o at_o who_o foot_n angel_n fall_v and_o bow_n shall_v come_v &_o wash_v the_o foot_n of_o such_o a_o creature_n as_o you_o be_v hence_o it_o be_v believer_n christ_n have_v love_v you_o and_o that_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n wonder_v not_o therefore_o henceforth_o unless_o it_o be_v with_o the_o wonder_v why_o christ_n do_v any_o thing_n or_o all_o thing_n for_o you_o there_o be_v a_o reason_n yea_o great_a reason_n though_o not_o in_o you_o yet_o in_o himself_o it_o be_v this_o we_o have_v be_v speak_v of_o i._n e._n the_o transcendent_a love_n he_o bear_v to_o you_o four_o let_v this_o inform_v believer_n that_o since_o christ_n love_v they_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n at_o all_o time_n they_o have_v then_o a_o just_a ground_n to_o act_v their_o faith_n upon_o he_o in_o any_o case_n why_o be_v it_o o_o believer_n that_o thou_o doubte_v whether_o christ_n will_v do_v this_o for_o thou_o or_o give_v that_o to_o thou_o when_o as_o thou_o consider_v he_o love_v thou_o with_o such_o a_o transcendent_a love_n upon_o all_o occasion_n act_v your_o faith_n o_o you_o child_n of_o faith_n in_o your_o belove_a what_o ever_o it_o be_v that_o you_o want_v and_o he_o have_v what_o ever_o it_o be_v that_o thou_o will_v have_v and_o he_o can_v give_v believe_v that_o christ_n will_v not_o let_v thou_o go_v without_o it_o for_o why_o he_o love_v thou_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n in_o three_o case_n more_o particular_o this_o truth_n will_v inform_v you_o of_o the_o sure_a ground_n that_o believer_n have_v to_o act_v their_o faith_n on_o jesus_n christ_n first_o in_o case_n of_o hear_v of_o their_o prayer_n full_o these_o thing_n i_o touch_v at_o in_o the_o first_o servant_n mon_fw-fr but_o not_o so_o full_o sure_o he_o that_o so_o transcendent_o love_v their_o person_n will_v without_o doubt_n hear_v their_o prayer_n thou_o say_v o_o believe_a soul_n thou_o have_v great_a necessity_n and_o they_o force_v thou_o to_o make_v many_o prayer_n thou_o say_v that_o christ_n can_v help_v thou_o at_o all_o hand_n and_o therefore_o thou_o be_v call_v upon_o he_o at_o all_o time_n but_o thou_o say_v will_v he_o hear_v i_o why_o shall_v thou_o not_o believe_v that_o he_o will_v when_o thou_o consider_v the_o transcendent_a love_n he_o bear_v to_o thou_o the_o love_n that_o be_v in_o his_o bosom_n towards_o thou_o will_v open_v his_o ear_n to_o hear_v the_o breathe_n that_o come_v from_o thou_o indeed_o sometime_o he_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v deaf_a and_o not_o hear_v thy_o prayer_n and_o sometime_o also_o he_o may_v seem_v harsh_a and_o not_o accept_v of_o thy_o person_n but_o it_o be_v to_o try_v thy_o faith_n for_o notwithstanding_o he_o will_v hear_v thou_o and_o accept_v of_o thou_o in_o what_o thou_o desire_v according_a to_o his_o will_n for_o thy_o good_a that_o he_o may_v declare_v his_o transcendent_a love_n you_o know_v christ_n call_v the_o woman_n of_o canaan_n dog_n and_o seem_v to_o speak_v harsh_a to_o she_o and_o yet_o even_o all_o the_o while_n that_o he_o look_v as_o it_o be_v sour_o upon_o she_o and_o speak_v as_o it_o be_v sad_o against_o she_o yet_o even_o then_o do_v his_o bowel_n roll_n for_o she_o and_o even_o then_o be_v there_o love_n in_o his_o bosom_n to_o she_o and_o therefore_o though_o for_o a_o while_n he_o seem_v to_o deny_v that_o he_o may_v try_v the_o sincerity_n of_o her_o faith_n yet_o afterward_o he_o grant_v her_o request_n that_o he_o may_v declare_v the_o reality_n of_o his_o own_o love_n in_o this_o case_n therefore_o you_o have_v a_o sure_a ground_n of_o faith_n o_o believer_n christ_n will_v not_o reject_v your_o prayer_n because_o he_o love_v your_o person_n and_o the_o more_o transcendent_a his_o love_n be_v towards_o the_o one_o the_o more_o sure_a may_v you_o be_v that_o he_o will_v hear_v the_o other_o second_o in_o case_n of_o obtain_v counsel_n from_o christ_n and_o know_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n this_o point_n will_v inform_v we_o in_o a_o sure_a ground_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n o_o believer_n love_n will_v open_v christ_n bosom_n and_o let_v thou_o see_v the_o counsel_n that_o be_v there_o sure_o he_o will_v counsel_v thou_o in_o case_n of_o doubt_n because_o he_o love_v thou_o as_o he_o do_v thou_o say_v here_o be_v a_o scruple_n and_o there_o be_v a_o question_n and_o i_o will_v fain_o know_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n concern_v this_o or_o that_o but_o how_o can_v i_o hope_v that_o ever_o he_o will_v open_v his_o mind_n to_o i_o either_o in_o the_o one_o or_o about_o the_o other_o why_o say_v thou_o so_o o_o believer_n be_v not_o his_o transcendent_a love_n a_o good_a ground_n for_o the_o act_n of_o thy_o faith_n in_o this_o case_n very_o because_o his_o heart_n be_v to_o thou_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v with_o thou_o that_o i_o may_v allude_v to_o that_o phrase_n of_o judge_n 16._o v._o 15._o how_o ever_o dallilah_n say_v to_o samson_n how_o can_v thou_o say_v i_o love_v thou_o when_o thy_o hart_n be_v not_o with_o i_o thou_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o say_v as_o she_o say_v in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o she_o do_v thou_o may_v believe_v that_o his_o heart_n will_v be_v with_o thou_o because_o thou_o hear_v that_o he_o love_v thou_o i_o will_v fain_o persuade_v my_o own_o heart_n and_o you_o also_o in_o these_o time_n of_o doubt_v and_o of_o darkness_n in_o which_o we_o need_v counsel_n and_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o
know_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n more_o i_o will_v i_o say_v persuade_v my_o own_o heart_n and_o you_o also_o to_o this_o point_n to_o act_v faith_n upon_o christ_n in_o this_o case_n whatever_o the_o truth_n of_o such_o a_o scripture_n be_v as_o you_o will_v know_v or_o of_o such_o a_o question_n as_o you_o will_v fain_o be_v resolve_v in_o sith_o christ_n love_v you_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n act_n faith_n in_o this_o case_n that_o in_o due_a time_n he_o will_v reveal_v even_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o to_o thou_o three_o christ_n transcendent_a love_n give_v a_o sure_a ground_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o case_n of_o raise_v up_o of_o the_o saint_n out_o of_o suffer_v very_o o_o you_o child_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n believe_v it_o jesus_n christ_n who_o love_v you_o in_o such_o a_o transcendent_a manner_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v will_v not_o let_v you_o always_o be_v under_o those_o great_a suffering_n which_o you_o do_v his_o great_a love_n for_o the_o present_a make_v he_o sympathize_v with_o you_o in_o all_o your_o affliction_n he_o be_v afflict_v man_n that_o persecute_v you_o they_o persecute_v he_o that_o love_v you_o he_o look_v upon_o your_o suffering_n as_o his_o own_o and_o because_o heelove_v you_o so_o transcendent_o he_o will_v ere_o long_o tell_v those_o that_o persecute_v you_o the_o same_z terribly_z believe_v it_o christ_n that_o have_v appear_v to_o you_o in_o this_o say_v i_o have_v love_v you_o with_o a_o everlasting_a love_n and_o therefore_o with_o love_a kindness_n have_v i_o draw_v you_o out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o sin_n will_v also_o say_v unto_o you_o i_o do_v love_n you_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n &_o therefore_o with_o the_o same_o love_a kindness_n will_v i_o draw_v you_o out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o suffering_n i_o say_v act_n faith_n o_o believer_n upon_o this_o ground_n of_o christ_n transcendent_a love_n even_o a_o sweet_a and_o a_o singular_a faith_n in_o the_o case_n of_o deliver_v you_o out_o of_o suffering_n as_o he_o will_v not_o always_o strive_v himself_o with_o you_o so_o neither_o always_o will_v he_o suffer_v wicked_a man_n to_o trample_v on_o you_o because_o he_o know_v and_o his_o love_n make_v he_o afraid_a lest_o your_o spirit_n shall_v fail_v as_o under_o the_o one_o so_o under_o the_o other_o use_v second_o it_o may_v be_v a_o word_n of_o reproof_n this_o point_n that_o christ_n love_v he_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n may_v just_o reprove_v the_o world_n yea_o and_o the_o saint_n themselves_o also_o first_o it_o may_v reprove_v the_o world_n who_o be_v ready_a not_o only_o to_o think_v but_o to_o say_v as_o he_o in_o the_o parable_n that_o christ_n be_v a_o austere_a man_n luke_n 19.21_o no_o my_o brethren_n christ_n you_o see_v be_v not_o austere_a but_o sweet_a as_o his_o name_n be_v so_o be_v his_o nature_n love_n and_o that_o in_o a_o transcendent_a manner_n be_v reprove_v wretch_n in_o entertain_v unkind_a or_o revile_v thought_n of_o christ_n you_o wrong_v he_o in_o his_o love_n and_o yourselves_o in_o the_o truth_n while_o you_o think_v or_o say_v that_o he_o be_v not_o a_o love_a lord_n you_o shall_v ere_o long_o not_o only_o see_v that_o he_o love_v but_o that_o he_o love_v all_o his_o with_o a_o love_n pass_v knowledge_n but_o second_o it_o reprove_v the_o saint_n also_o who_o be_v ready_a very_o often_o
