can_v direct_v a_o man_n unto_o god_n this_o place_n minister_v occasion_n to_o speak_v some_o few_o thing_n concern_v free_a wil._n but_o that_o they_o may_v the_o more_o right_o be_v understand_v and_o the_o more_o familiar_o be_v conceive_v we_o must_v consider_v the_o two_o estate_n in_o man_n the_o first_o in_o a_o good_a and_o innocent_a nature_n before_o the_o fall_n of_o man_n the_o second_o in_o a_o evil_a and_o deprave_a nature_n after_o his_o fall_n man_n before_o his_o fall_n be_v endue_v with_o most_o free_a power_n to_o will_v and_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o man_n be_v create_v whole_o according_a to_o the_o image_n of_o god_n 1.27_o gen._n 1.27_o therefore_o all_o his_o action_n as_o well_o outward_a as_o inward_a be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o by_o his_o fall_n man_n lose_v not_o only_a himself_o but_o also_o his_o freewill_n together_o with_o himself_o so_o that_o look_v how_o great_a ability_n there_o be_v in_o he_o before_o his_o fall_n to_o please_v and_o serve_v god_n so_o great_a desire_n of_o sin_v be_v there_o in_o he_o now_o and_o wilfulness_n of_o rebellion_n against_o god_n again_o as_o before_o his_o fall_n there_o be_v in_o he_o the_o habit_n of_o all_o goodness_n and_o the_o absence_n of_o all_o evil_a so_o now_o there_o be_v in_o he_o the_o habit_n of_o all_o evil_a &_o the_o absence_n of_o all_o good_a for_o there_o be_v no_o evil_a in_o man_n but_o by_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o contrary_a good_a here_o therefore_o we_o must_v know_v that_o in_o outward_a and_o civil_a matter_n a_o man_n have_v some_o freewill_n as_o that_o he_o may_v be_v obedient_a and_o subject_a unto_o civil_a justice_n so_o he_o may_v obey_v his_o parent_n and_o reverence_v the_o magistrate_n so_o he_o may_v yield_v a_o certain_a kind_n of_o duty_n unto_o his_o master_n and_o instructer_n so_o he_o may_v keep_v his_o hand_n from_o theft_n and_o murder_n so_o he_o may_v keep_v his_o tongue_n from_o slander_v and_o reproach_v so_o in_o other_o outward_a action_n and_o thing_n man_n have_v some_o freedom_n to_o will_n or_o not_o to_o will_v according_o as_o reason_n shall_v persuade_v he_o that_o the_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v choose_v or_o refuse_v and_o although_o that_o there_o be_v in_o man_n by_o nature_n a_o desire_n of_o good_a and_o profitable_a thing_n and_o a_o loathe_n and_o hatred_n of_o thing_n evil_a and_o hurtful_a yet_o in_o all_o these_o and_o in_o every_o of_o these_o there_o be_v imperfection_n and_o error_n because_o he_o do_v not_o choose_v &_o do_v these_o natural_a &_o civil_a good_a thing_n so_o as_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v choose_v and_o do_v nor_o avoid_v the_o contrary_a eville_n as_o he_o shall_v avoid_v they_o so_o that_o the_o love_n and_o loathe_n in_o choose_v and_o avoid_v of_o those_o thing_n which_o by_o nature_n be_v to_o be_v choose_v and_o avoid_v be_v common_a unto_o man_n with_o bruit_n beast_n for_o they_o desire_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v agreeable_a unto_o their_o nature_n and_o avoid_v and_o hate_v thing_n contrary_a and_o hurtful_a notwithstanding_o these_o thing_n which_o the_o unregenerate_a man_n will_v and_o do_v in_o these_o outward_a thing_n rather_o deserve_v the_o name_n of_o vice_n then_o of_o true_a virtue_n because_o they_o be_v not_o aim_v unto_o that_o end_n unto_o which_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v direct_v for_o every_o thing_n have_v his_o reward_n and_o be_v to_o be_v esteem_v by_o the_o end_n the_o honour_n of_o god_n and_o salvation_n of_o man_n shall_v be_v prefer_v before_o private_a commodity_n but_o a_o man_n that_o be_v leave_v unto_o himself_o can_v think_v nor_o do_v any_o thing_n unto_o these_o end_n therefore_o that_o which_o seem_v fair_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o man_n and_o carry_v a_o great_a show_n of_o virtue_n and_o godliness_n be_v unclean_a and_o abominable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n but_o in_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n a_o man_n of_o himself_o have_v no_o freewill_n and_o liberty_n at_o all_o but_o in_o man_n there_o be_v a_o mere_a bondage_n of_o sin_n and_o a_o most_o miserable_a slavery_n of_o satan_n here_o man_n be_v so_o untoward_a &_o impotent_a as_o that_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o begin_v or_o perfect_a any_o good_a work_n nay_o he_o be_v not_o able_a in_o his_o least_o think_v to_o attain_v unto_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v be_v acceptable_a or_o well_o please_v unto_o god_n 3.5_o 2._o cor._n 3.5_o but_o with_o all_o the_o affection_n of_o his_o whole_a nature_n he_o be_v obstinate_a and_o rebellious_a against_o god_n because_o that_o of_o himself_o he_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o sin_n and_o that_o continual_o and_o of_o necessity_n yea_o beside_o all_o this_o he_o be_v so_o corrupt_a and_o blind_v that_o he_o can_v neither_o see_v nor_o acknowledge_v his_o sin_n except_o god_n by_o his_o law_n reveal_v it_o and_o by_o his_o spirit_n declare_v it_o unto_o he_o so_o that_o the_o misery_n of_o man_n consist_v chief_o in_o these_o thing_n first_o because_o he_o be_v so_o corrupt_v both_o in_o body_n &_o in_o soul_n and_o in_o all_o the_o part_n of_o both_o that_o he_o be_v more_o repugnant_a and_o contrary_a unto_o god_n than_o any_o one_o thing_n can_v be_v to_o another_o second_o because_o he_o neither_o know_v this_o his_o corruption_n neither_o will_v be_v bring_v to_o confess_v it_o without_o much_o indignation_n and_o murmur_a three_o because_o he_o daily_o increase_v this_o his_o corruption_n with_o many_o actual_a transgression_n and_o make_v it_o always_o worse_o and_o worse_o four_o because_o that_o by_o this_o access_n and_o increase_n of_o sin_n he_o provoke_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n against_o himself_o and_o day_n by_o day_n make_v his_o condemnation_n the_o more_o grievous_a five_o because_o that_o by_o his_o own_o strength_n of_o nature_n he_o can_v amend_v his_o own_o corruption_n of_o nature_n nor_o pacify_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n nor_o overcome_v and_o escape_v death_n therefore_o as_o man_n by_o his_o own_o voluntary_a will_n deprave_v himself_o and_o offend_v god_n so_o by_o his_o own_o power_n he_o can_v amend_v himself_o nor_o reconcile_v himself_o unto_o god_n so_o that_o man_n can_v proceed_v from_o the_o habit_n of_o goodness_n unto_o the_o privation_n and_o loss_n thereof_o but_o he_o can_v return_v from_o the_o privation_n unto_o the_o habit_n therefore_o freewill_n in_o man_n be_v so_o maim_a that_o it_o be_v sound_a on_o no_o side_n for_o god_n when_o he_o create_v man_n in_o the_o beginning_n give_v he_o over_o unto_o his_o own_o will_n but_o he_o by_o abuse_v his_o freewill_n lose_v both_o himself_o and_o it_o as_o augustine_n say_v and_o to_o conclude_v 130._o in_o enchirid_a cap._n 130._o the_o scripture_n do_v not_o only_o teach_v we_o but_o even_o the_o experience_n of_o every_o one_o do_v prove_v unto_o we_o that_o all_o liberty_n to_o will_n that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o all_o power_n to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v right_a be_v lose_v
