be_v cast_v into_o the_o mould_n and_o likeness_n of_o it_o humiliation_n sorrow_n self-abhorrency_a do_v live_v and_o die_v with_o it_o four_o it_o have_v in_o the_o first_o place_n respect_v unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n there_o can_v be_v no_o due_a consideration_n of_o sin_n wherein_o the_o law_n have_v not_o its_o place_n the_o law_n call_v for_o the_o sinner_n and_o he_o willing_o give_v up_o his_o sin_n to_o be_v judge_v by_o it_o there_o he_o see_v it_o to_o be_v exceed_o sinful_a rom._n 7._o 17._o though_o a_o believer_n be_v less_o under_o the_o power_n of_o the_o law_n than_o other_o yet_o he_o know_v more_o of_o the_o authority_n and_o nature_n of_o it_o than_o other_o he_o see_v more_o of_o its_o spirituality_n and_o holiness_n and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n see_v of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o law_n the_o more_o he_o see_v of_o the_o vileness_n of_o sin_n this_o be_v do_v by_o a_o soul_n in_o its_o first_o endeavour_n for_o a_o recovery_n from_o the_o entanglement_n of_o sin_n he_o labour_v thorough_o to_o know_v his_o disease_n that_o he_o may_v be_v cure_v it_o will_v do_v he_o no_o good_a he_o know_v to_o be_v ignorant_a of_o his_o distemper_n or_o his_o danger_n he_o know_v that_o if_o his_o wound_n be_v not_o search_v to_o the_o bottom_n they_o will_v stink_v and_o be_v corrupt_a to_o the_o law_n then_o he_o bring_v himself_o and_o his_o sin_n by_o that_o he_o see_v the_o vileness_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o other_o most_o man_n lie_v still_o in_o their_o depth_n because_o they_o will_v willing_o escape_v the_o first_o step_n of_o their_o rise_n from_o the_o bottom_n of_o their_o misery_n they_o will_v fain_o at_o once_o be_v at_o the_o top_n of_o their_o felicity_n the_o soul_n manage_v in_o this_o work_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v not_o so_o he_o converse_v with_o the_o law_n bring_v his_o sin_n unto_o it_o and_o full_o hear_v the_o sentence_n of_o it_o when_o the_o sin_n be_v thorough_o condemn_v than_o he_o far_o take_v care_n of_o the_o sinner_n

god_n they_o think_v it_o be_v in_o none_o but_o such_o as_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v go_v to_o they_o and_o ask_v they_o be_v you_o certain_a you_o shall_v be_v save_v have_v boldness_n and_o confidence_n and_o ostentation_n to_o answer_v present_o yea_o they_o be_v certain_a they_o shall_v be_v save_v but_o as_o the_o bless_a truth_n of_o assurance_n have_v be_v reproach_v in_o the_o world_n under_o such_o a_o notion_n of_o it_o so_o such_o expression_n become_v not_o they_o who_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v to_o do_v with_o the_o holy_a god_n who_o be_v a_o consume_a fire_n hence_o some_o conclude_v that_o there_o be_v very_o few_o believer_n who_o have_v any_o assurance_n because_o they_o have_v not_o this_o confidence_n or_o be_v more_o free_a to_o mention_v the_o oppasition_n they_o meet_v with_o than_o the_o supportment_n they_o enjoy_v and_o thus_o be_v it_o render_v a_o matter_n not_o great_o to_o be_v desire_v because_o it_o be_v so_o rare_o to_o be_v obtain_v most_o of_o the_o saint_n serve_v god_n and_o go_v to_o heaven_n well_o enough_o without_o it_o but_o the_o matter_n be_v otherwise_o the_o importance_n of_o it_o not_o only_o as_o it_o be_v our_o life_n of_o comfort_n and_o joy_n but_o also_o as_o it_o be_v the_o principal_a mean_n of_o the_o flourish_a of_o our_o life_n of_o holiness_n have_v be_v declare_v before_o and_o may_v be_v further_o manifest_v be_v that_o our_o present_a business_n yea_o and_o in_o time_n of_o trial_n which_o be_v the_o proper_a season_n for_o the_o effectual_a work_n and_o manifestation_n of_o assurance_n it_o will_v and_o do_v appear_v that_o many_o yea_o that_o most_o of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n be_v make_v partaker_n of_o this_o grace_n and_o privilege_n i_o shall_v then_o in_o the_o to_o leave_v he_o beneath_o the_o assurance_n seek_v after_o and_o 2._o i_o shall_v speak_v somewhat_o of_o its_o nature_n especial_o as_o manifest_v its_o self_n by_o its_o effect_n assurance_n 1._o a_o deep_a sense_n of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o man_n own_o sin_n be_v no_o way_n inconsistent_a with_o gospel_n assurance_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o of_o forgiveness_n in_o he_o by_o a_o sense_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n i_o understand_v two_o thing_n 1._o a_o clear_a conviction_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n say_v unto_o the_o consistent_a with_o any_o other_o grace_n or_o privilege_n that_o we_o may_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o or_o be_v promise_v unto_o we_o some_o find_v the_o weight_n and_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n gospel_n assurance_n may_v well_o dwell_v in_o the_o same_o breast_n at_o the_o same_o time_n indeed_o as_o in_o all_o worldly_a joy_n there_o be_v a_o secret_a wound_n so_o in_o all_o godly_a
