wisdom_n &_o revelation_n and_o that_o without_o any_o particle_n which_o shall_v couple_v they_o because_o they_o be_v bring_v in_o by_o way_n of_o explanation_n in_o which_o case_n the_o copulative_a be_v often_o omit_v as_o verse_n 7._o 1_o pet._n 1._o verse_n 3.4_o for_o to_o have_v eye_n of_o understand_v enlighten_v differ_v not_o from_o that_o former_a to_o have_v give_v the_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n and_o revelation_n but_o that_o it_o do_v more_o round_o and_o full_o note_v the_o same_o benefit_n and_o that_o without_o any_o insinuation_n of_o the_o cause_n viz._n that_o spirit_n from_o which_o it_o come_v this_o then_o thus_o come_v when_o i_o ask_v for_o you_o a_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n and_o revelation_n my_o meaning_n be_v to_o speak_v more_o round_o and_o naked_o i_o ask_v that_o he_o will_v give_v you_o eye_n of_o understand_v enlighten_v the_o end_n follow_v first_o propound_v then_o more_o clear_o expound_v propound_v in_o those_o word_n that_o you_o may_v know_v the_o hope_n of_o his_o call_n for_o clear_v whereof_o you_o must_v know_v that_o hope_n be_v put_v for_o thing_n hope_v for_o not_o for_o the_o grace_n of_o hope_n which_o spring_v from_o faith_n thus_o we_o say_v he_o be_v a_o man_n of_o fair_a hope_n we_o mean_v goodly_a land_n which_o in_o likelihood_n will_v befall_v he_o now_o this_o hope_n be_v describe_v from_o a_o antecedent_n benefit_n the_o ground_n of_o it_o viz._n god_n call_v they_o by_o the_o gospel_n and_o whereas_o there_o be_v a_o outward_a significative_a effectual_a calling_n wherewith_o many_o be_v call_v who_o be_v not_o separate_v from_o other_o this_o be_v mean_v of_o that_o inward_a operative_a and_o effectual_a call_n which_o the_o scripture_n do_v describe_v with_o addition_n viz._n that_o it_o be_v a_o calling_n according_a to_o purpose_n a_o high_a and_o heavenly_a call_n a_o holy_a call_n the_o end_n of_o the_o verse_n expound_v this_o hope_n by_o this_o that_o it_o be_v a_o inheritance_n describe_v from_o the_o glory_n yea_o the_o riches_n or_o abundance_n of_o glory_n adjoin_v unto_o it_o and_o from_o the_o person_n who_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o it_o the_o saint_n the_o sum_n of_o the_o verse_n when_o i_o ask_v for_o you_o a_o spirit_n of_o wisdom_n and_o revelation_n my_o meaning_n be_v i_o ask_v at_o god_n that_o he_o will_v give_v you_o the_o eye_n of_o your_o understanding_n enlighten_v that_o you_o may_v be_v able_a to_o know_v those_o good_a thing_n which_o you_o have_v in_o hope_n have_v be_v call_v of_o god_n to_o the_o obtain_n of_o they_o through_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o gospel_n even_o to_o know_v what_o be_v the_o abundant_a glory_n of_o that_o his_o inheritance_n which_o he_o will_v of_o grace_n distribute_v among_o the_o saint_n for_o the_o particle_n we_o read_v in_o the_o saint_n do_v signify_v in_o or_o among_o and_o be_v so_o read_v act_v 26.18_o doct._n 1_o observe_v then_o first_o that_o those_o who_o spiritual_a sight_n be_v restore_v have_v need_v still_o to_o depend_v on_o god_n that_o their_o eye_n may_v be_v more_o and_o more_o enlighten_v by_o he_o these_o be_v now_o light_a in_o the_o lord_n have_v their_o eye_n open_v yet_o thus_o he_o pray_v for_o they_o as_o it_o be_v with_o bodily_a sickness_n when_o we_o recover_v out_o of_o they_o health_n come_v not_o all_o at_o once_o but_o by_o ounce_n as_o we_o say_v so_o in_o spiritual_a when_o god_n do_v now_o raise_v we_o up_o from_o our_o death_n we_o neither_o be_v full_o sanctify_v nor_o yet_o full_o enlighten_v it_o be_v with_o we_o as_o with_o the_o blind_a man_n mark_v 8.24_o we_o see_v but_o confuse_o and_o indistinct_o now_o this_o enlighten_v comprehend_v these_o four_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v still_o need_n to_o seek_v to_o god_n for_o first_o the_o removal_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o put_v impediment_n to_o our_o sight_n a_o see_v eye_n may_v have_v mist_n dazzle_v it_o humour_n fall_v and_o distil_v into_o it_o yea_o some_o film_n or_o skin_n grow_v over_o it_o so_o a_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o now_o see_v may_v have_v mist_n of_o ignorance_n cloud_n of_o lust_n veil_n of_o hardness_n of_o heart_n all_o hinder_v this_o faculty_n of_o see_v in_o the_o action_n of_o it_o we_o must_v therefore_o look_v to_o god_n for_o the_o eye_n salve_n and_o the_o help_n of_o his_o hand_n in_o these_o regard_n second_o we_o have_v need_v that_o the_o inward_a light_n of_o knowledge_n be_v augment_v in_o us._n the_o inward_a light_n of_o the_o bodily_a eye_n be_v not_o so_o great_a in_o
themselves_o that_o god_n have_v thus_o exalt_v they_o and_o not_o envy_v worldly_a man_n their_o full_a estate_n in_o this_o present_a world_n heir_n be_v glad_a to_o borrow_v trifle_n with_o servant_n sometime_o while_o they_o be_v under_o government_n so_o god_n do_v hold_v his_o child_n low_a for_o a_o while_n in_o this_o present_a life_n again_o why_o shall_v we_o envy_v they_o see_v they_o have_v but_o a_o state_n of_o life_n grant_v they_o in_o this_o most_o remote_a and_o utmost_a part_n of_o our_o inheritance_n will_v a_o child_n think_v much_o a_o parent_n shall_v give_v a_o pension_n for_o life_n out_o of_o this_o or_o that_o while_o he_o have_v great_a thing_n far_o leave_v he_o yea_o the_o inheritance_n of_o that_o also_o out_o of_o which_o a_o anuity_n as_o it_o be_v for_o a_o time_n be_v grant_v to_o some_o other_o thus_o it_o be_v our_o father_n deal_v with_o we_o while_o he_o do_v both_o reserve_v for_o we_o great_a thing_n &_o also_o bequeath_v the_o everlasting_a inheritance_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n to_o we_o in_o which_o wicked_a one_o have_v but_o a_o state_n of_o life_n till_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o our_o full_a age_n in_o christ_n see_v more_o of_o this_o verse_n 11._o doct._n 5_o observe_v last_o who_o they_o be_v to_o who_o belong_v this_o inheritance_n viz._n the_o saint_n such_o as_o be_v not_o only_o cleanse_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o dead_a work_n but_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n renew_v to_o true_a holiness_n and_o bring_v to_o walk_v in_o all_o holy_a conversation_n 2_o pet._n 3.11_o 1_o thes_n 4.7_o for_o we_o be_v call_v in_o christ_n both_o to_o outward_a and_o inward_a sanctification_n see_v act_n 26.18_o so_o likewise_o coloss_n 1._o to_o receive_v inheritance_n with_o the_o saint_n make_v we_o fit_a to_o have_v inheritance_n with_o the_o saint_n in_o light_n if_o you_o ask_v this_o question_n why_o we_o shall_v have_v the_o inheritance_n of_o life_n it_o be_v answer_v the_o grace_n of_o though_o not_o in_o like_a perfection_n use_v 1_o the_o use_n be_v to_o let_v many_o see_v how_o they_o deceive_v themselves_o who_o look_v to_o be_v save_v but_o love_v not_o holiness_n they_o love_v to_o live_v after_o their_o ignorance_n and_o lust_n they_o will_v mock_v at_o man_n who_o will_v not_o run_v to_o the_o same_o excess_n of_o riot_n which_o themselves_o do_v know_v this_o that_o when_o wise_a man_n will_v not_o leave_v their_o substance_n to_o child_n of_o a_o adultress_n god_n will_v never_o give_v thou_o the_o inheritance_n of_o glory_n while_o thou_o continue_v a_o child_n of_o this_o world_n love_v nothing_o so_o much_o as_o the_o pleasure_n pomp_n and_o profit_n of_o it_o use_v 2_o let_v we_o in_o the_o second_o place_n labour_n for_o holiness_n true_a holiness_n it_o be_v not_o a_o good_a nature_n nor_o moral_a justice_n nor_o external_a profession_n of_o religion_n so_o far_o as_o stand_v with_o our_o own_o will_n no_o where_o we_o first_o renounce_v our_o will_n there_o we_o first_o begin_v to_o be_v holy_a what_o then_o make_v saint_n to_o find_v out_o how_o our_o whole_a nature_n be_v pollute_v to_o strike_v at_o the_o root_n and_o seek_v to_o get_v purge_v of_o that_o sin_n which_o dwell_v in_o we_o to_o fight_v against_o those_o sin_n custom_n complexion_n age_n company_n most_o incline_v we_o unto_o to_o seek_v to_o god_n to_o make_v we_o grow_v up_o in_o holiness_n and_o his_o fear_n he_o that_o do_v these_o thing_n be_v happy_a he_o that_o do_v not_o these_o thing_n be_v but_o a_o paint_a sheath_n and_o white_v sepulchre_n he_o have_v nothing_o but_o a_o powerlesse_a show_n which_o the_o lord_n abhor_v verse_n 19_o and_o what_o be_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o power_n towards_o we_o who_o believe_v according_a to_o the_o work_n of_o his_o mighty_a power_n the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v know_v be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n not_o that_o absolute_a power_n by_o which_o he_o can_v do_v what_o ever_o be_v possible_a but_o that_o power_n join_v with_o his_o will_n which_o be_v put_v forth_o for_o finish_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n in_o they_o who_o now_o believe_v this_o power_n be_v describe_v by_o the_o quantity_n in_o those_o word_n the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o his_o power_n from_o the_o person_n who_o it_o respect_v towards_o we_o who_o now_o believe_v the_o principal_a cause_n of_o their_o believe_a being_n next_o adjoin_v viz._n the_o efficacy_n of_o his_o mighty_a power_n which_o be_v put_v forth_o in_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a the_o sum_n that_o you_o may_v not_o only_o know_v the_o hope_n of_o glory_n lay_v up_o for_o you_o but_o also_o more_o full_o see_v the_o excellent_a great_a power_n which_o have_v wrought_v do_v work_v and_o will_v work_v out_o for_o we_o who_o believe_v all_o that_o salvation_n and_o glory_n we_o hope_v for_o in_o the_o heaven_n for_o we_o i_o say_v who_o be_v bring_v to_o believe_v by_o the_o selfsame_o effectual_a work_n of_o god_n almighty_a power_n which_o he_o wrought_v or_o show_v while_o he_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a doct._n 1_o observe_v then_o first_o that_o god_n believe_v child_n know_v not_o at_o first_o any_o thing_n clear_o the_o great_a power_n of_o god_n which_o work_v in_o they_o god_n do_v work_v wonderful_o pass_v by_o we_o and_o we_o see_v he_o not_o change_v his_o place_n and_o we_o observe_v he_o not_o job._n 9.11_o it_o be_v as_o nothing_o which_o we_o know_v of_o his_o way_n job_n 26._o ult._n and_o as_o he_o reveal_v his_o wisdom_n in_o afflict_v we_o once_o twice_o and_o we_o hear_v he_o not_o so_o he_o do_v again_o and_o again_o manifest_v his_o power_n but_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o conceive_v it_o this_o be_v part_n of_o that_o light_n to_o which_o be_v no_o access_n the_o eye_n of_o our_o mind_n especial_o at_o first_o weak_a not_o able_a to_o look_v against_o it_o use_v 1_o we_o must_v not_o then_o be_v discourage_v if_o we_o can_v conceive_v of_o god_n in_o any_o measure_n as_o we_o desire_v our_o child_n at_o four_o or_o five_o year_n old_a what_o do_v they_o know_v of_o our_o wisdom_n knowledge_n strength_n there_o be_v a_o commonwealth_n in_o the_o head_n of_o a_o man_n no_o part_n whereof_o once_o enter_v into_o their_o childish_a understanding_n when_o our_o child_n can_v so_o little_o trace_v the_o way_n of_o we_o their_o earthly_a parent_n how_o much_o less_o able_a be_v we_o any_o thing_n full_o to_o know_v the_o work_n of_o the_o strength_n wisdom_n mercy_n which_o be_v in_o our_o heavenly_a father_n some_o may_v think_v it_o strange_a that_o so_o exceed_v great_a a_o power_n shall_v work_v and_o not_o be_v discern_v when_o the_o least_o bodily_a force_n put_v to_o we_o be_v present_o perceive_v but_o it_o be_v not_o with_o this_o power_n as_o with_o bodily_a their_o work_n be_v violent_a and_o manifest_a the_o work_n of_o this_o be_v sweet_a and_o imperceiveable_a &_o when_o the_o heaven_n by_o their_o influence_n work_v on_o body_n and_o yet_o be_v not_o common_o discern_v how_o much_o less_o be_v it_o to_o be_v wonder_v at_o if_o this_o spiritual_a almighty_a power_n do_v insinuate_v itself_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o it_o be_v not_o common_o observe_v by_o we_o again_o as_o the_o bright_a light_n while_o it_o shine_v in_o a_o thick_a cloud_n seem_v rather_o darkness_n then_o light_a so_o this_o power_n while_o it_o work_v in_o midst_n of_o manifold_a weakness_n be_v not_o to_o outward_a appearance_n so_o powerful_a as_o it_o be_v in_o itself_o use_v 2_o let_v we_o labour_v more_o and_o more_o to_o know_v this_o power_n of_o our_o god_n put_v forth_o for_o us._n we_o love_v to_o know_v the_o strength_n of_o thing_n or_o earthly_a person_n to_o who_o we_o trust_v for_o till_o we_o know_v ourselves_o on_o sure_a hand_n our_o thought_n be_v not_o secure_a thus_o we_o shall_v delight_v to_o know_v this_o power_n of_o god_n to_o who_o we_o trust_v
