and_o sit_v upon_o they_o as_o a_o bird_n upon_o her_o egg_n by_o his_o divine_a virtue_n frame_v the_o several_a distinct_a creature_n out_o of_o the_o common_a mass_n as_o she_o by_o her_o natural_a warmth_n bring_v forth_o her_o young_a one_o after_o her_o kind_n with_o all_o the_o distinct_a part_n of_o their_o body_n out_o of_o the_o shapeless_a lump_n of_o matter_n in_o the_o egg_n according_a to_o this_o sense_n do_v the_o best_a expositor_n take_v that_o metaphor_n so_o say_v the_o psalmist_n in_o psal._n 104.30_o thou_o send_v forth_o thy_o spirit_n they_o be_v create_v so_o that_o the_o father_n creat_v by_o the_o son_n through_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o therefore_o albeit_o we_o use_v to_o call_v god_n the_o father_n the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n as_o be_v express_v in_o our_o creed_n yet_o must_v we_o not_o exclude_v the_o son_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n although_o the_o father_n be_v first_o in_o order_n of_o work_v thus_o frame_v but_o this_o also_o be_v create_v by_o god_n so_o that_o original_o all_o thing_n be_v create_v of_o nothing_o job._n 1.3_o all_o thing_n be_v make_v by_o â—im_n and_o therefore_o that_o thing_n out_o of_o which_o all_o other_o thing_n
it_o be_v perfect_a in_o its_o kind_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v so_o much_o knowledge_n of_o his_o excellency_n as_o be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v he_o admire_v he_o love_v he_o magnify_v he_o above_o all_o thing_n and_o so_o much_o as_o be_v sufficient_a clear_o to_o direct_v he_o in_o any_o duty_n which_o by_o the_o first_o covenant_n and_o law_n of_o his_o creation_n he_o owe_v unto_o other_o creature_n here_o below_o he_o know_v the_o tree_n of_o the_o garden_n the_o herb_n grass_n and_o all_o sort_n of_o plant_n and_o the_o natural_a virtue_n and_o property_n that_o be_v in_o they_o he_o know_v the_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n the_o fowl_n of_o the_o air_n and_o fish_n of_o the_o sea_n and_o so_o adam_n give_v fit_a and_o proper_a name_n to_o all_o bird_n and_o beast_n so_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o he_o know_v the_o nature_n and_o several_a kind_n of_o all_o mineral_n metal_n precious_a stone_n etc._n etc._n together_o with_o the_o course_n and_o motion_n of_o the_o heaven_n sun_n moon_n and_o sâ—ars_n thus_o do_v the_o understanding_n which_o be_v the_o eye_n of_o man_n soul_n represent_v the_o infinite_a knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o bear_v its_o image_n and_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o call_v now_o hide_a quality_n in_o the_o creature_n be_v not_o hide_v from_o he_o and_o be_v now_o cover_v from_o we_o not_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o own_o nature_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o blindness_n contrary_a to_o that_o light_n which_o be_v natural_a to_o we_o in_o the_o creation_n but_o all_o this_o while_n man_n have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o evil_n he_o know_v not_o what_o ignorance_n or_o error_n mean_v he_o know_v not_o what_o a_o stubborn_a will_n a_o hard_a heart_n a_o pollute_a conscience_n be_v he_o have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o the_o without_o his_o body_n 1._o of_o the_o thing_n belong_v to_o the_o body_n you_o have_v hear_v before_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o the_o creation_n of_o the_o body_n sc_n the_o beauty_n and_o excellent_a temper_n of_o the_o body_n for_o though_o the_o lord_n have_v no_o body_n be_v a_o infinite_a and_o most_o glorious_a be_v yet_o these_o thing_n as_o they_o be_v excellency_n and_o thing_n that_o make_v somewhat_o for_o the_o happiness_n of_o man_n they_o be_v in_o some_o sort_n resemblance_n of_o the_o divine_a glory_n and_o excellency_n of_o god_n to_o these_o i_o may_v add_v also_o immortality_n for_o the_o body_n also_o be_v by_o the_o goodness_n of_o its_o maker_n free_a from_o death_n have_v not_o sin_n make_v a_o forfeiture_n of_o his_o life_n
god_n with_o the_o psalmist_n teach_v i_o o_o lord_n open_v my_o eye_n etc._n etc._n and_o make_v no_o great_a account_n of_o the_o judgement_n of_o such_o in_o spiâ—iâ—uâ—l_a thing_n who_o be_v worldly_a wise_n or_o learned_a but_o unsanctified_a think_v rather_o that_o as_o no_o spectacle_n can_v make_v that_o eye_n to_o see_v that_o be_v altogether_o blind_a so_o no_o help_n of_o humane_a learning_n natural_a sharpness_n of_o wit_n etc._n etc._n can_v make_v that_o man_n that_o be_v spiritual_o blind_a right_o and_o save_o to_o discern_v spiritual_a thing_n if_o there_o be_v some_o light_n in_o the_o eye_n thoâ—gh_v but_o dim_v it_o may_v be_v help_v and_o further_v by_o such_o outward_a mean_n so_o if_o there_o be_v some_o light_n of_o the_o enlighten_v sanctify_a spirit_n and_o â—he_v mind_n then_o thâ—se_a outward_a help_n of_o secular_a leaâ—â—ing_n art_n tongue_n natural_a quickness_n of_o wit_n etc._n etc._n may_v be_v of_o great_a and_o excellent_a use_n and_o must_v not_o be_v despise_v 9_o again_o consider_v that_o as_o there_o be_v great_a difference_n in_o the_o cleverness_n of_o the_o light_n between_o such_o a_o day_n when_o the_o sunbeam_n be_v intercept_v by_o a_o thick_a mist_n or_o dark_a cloud_n and_o then_o when_o it_o shine_v bright_o through_o a_o clear_a air_n so_o when_o the_o light_n of_o heavenly_a truth_n be_v dim_v by_o a_o thick_a mist_n of_o jewish_a ceremony_n when_o a_o cloud_n be_v in_o the_o most_o holy_a place_n even_o before_o the_o oracle_n and_o ark_n of_o god_n presence_n when_o the_o veil_n be_v whole_a and_o not_o rend_v asunder_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o so_o clear_a the_o mystery_n of_o grace_n not_o so_o plain_o unfold_v by_o many_o degree_n as_o now_o since_o our_o saviour_n come_v when_o there_o be_v no_o impediment_n and_o this_o shall_v stir_v thou_o up_o to_o thankfulness_n every_o sun-shiny_a day_n shall_v make_v thou_o lift_v up_o a_o thankful_a heart_n with_o feel_a affection_n of_o the_o word_n therefore_o if_o you_o will_v see_v clear_o by_o the_o light_n of_o the_o word_n you_o must_v remove_v the_o world_n out_o of_o the_o way_n put_v â—he_n earth_n out_o of_o your_o the_o eye_n of_o thy_o soul_n 10._o consider_v as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v offensive_a and_o displease_v to_o sore_a eye_n which_o rather_o delight_v in_o a_o dim_a air_n so_o consider_v that_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o light_n of_o god_n word_n preach_v be_v so_o displease_v unto_o many_o be_v because_o of_o the_o carnal_a distemper_n of_o their_o heart_n whereas_o to_o a_o sound_a heart_n it_o be_v most_o delightful_a and_o consider_v though_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v please_v to_o a_o gâ—od_a eye_n yet_o the_o sharp_a sight_n may_v be_v dazzle_v by_o its_o brightness_n so_o the_o light_n of_o heavenly_a mystery_n in_o the_o word_n be_v of_o that_o surpass_a excellency_n as_o to_o overcome_v the_o clear_a apprehension_n of_o any_o sanctify_a christ_n aâ—_n 11._o consider_v as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v accompany_v with_o a_o cherish_a heat_n and_o warmth_n whereby_o the_o creature_n on_o earth_n be_v refresh_v and_o make_v to_o grow_v yea_o whereby_o life_n be_v ingenerate_v and_o preserve_v â—o_o the_o light_n of_o the_o word_n be_v attend_v with_o a_o divine_a operative_a warmth_n and_o virtue_n of_o the_o bless_a spirit_n whereby_o the_o new_a life_n be_v ingenerate_v and_o preserve_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o elect_a again_o as_o the_o sun_n by_o its_o come_n in_o the_o spring_n renew_v the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o make_v such_o a_o difference_n in_o the_o world_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o new_a world_n so_o when_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v abroad_o in_o in_o the_o world_n by_o the_o apostle_n it_o make_v a_o wonderful_a alteration_n in_o the_o world_n even_o as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v a_o new_a world_n insomuch_o that_o the_o heathen_n themselves_o and_o enemy_n observe_v it_o as_o demetrius_n tell_v his_o fellow_n smith_n speak_v of_o paul_n and_o his_o fellow_n apostle_n these_o be_v the_o man_n that_o have_v turn_v the_o world_n upside_o down_o ah_o wonderful_a change_n consider_v how_o unseemly_o it_o be_v in_o this_o daytime_n to_o go_v naked_a without_o put_v on_o christ_n to_o come_v abroad_o in_o the_o light_n with_o the_o loathsome_a rag_n of_o our_o natural_a pollution_n to_o be_v still_o in_o bed_n to_o be_v busy_v in_o our_o night-work_n of_o darkness_n to_o behave_v ourselves_o no_o otherwise_o than_o those_o who_o never_o see_v the_o light_n oh_o their_o youth_n and_o consecrate_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o their_o time_n unto_o god_n be_v exceed_o please_a and_o acceptable_a unto_o he_o 4._o when_o the_o sun_n set_v at_o night_n and_o leave_v we_o in_o the_o dark_a we_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o he_o will_v return_v again_o so_o when_o christ_n seem_v to_o withdraw_v himself_o from_o a_o faithful_a soul_n on_o which_o he_o have_v cast_v the_o sweet_a beam_n of_o comfort_n and_o refreshment_n let_v such_o a_o one_o know_v for_o his_o comfort_n that_o he_o will_v rise_v again_o this_o night_n will_v not_o always_o last_o though_o it_o be_v a_o long_a winter_n night_n a_o tedious_a time_n of_o desertion_n yet_o a_o dawn_n yea_o a_o perfect_a day_n will_v follow_v it_o when_o the_o face_n of_o christ_n shall_v shine_v again_o upon_o it_o again_o as_o the_o sun_n never_o so_o set_v as_o not_o to_o shine_v at_o all_o but_o when_o it_o set_v to_o one_o part_n of_o the_o world_n it_o arise_v to_o another_o so_o christ_n never_o withdraw_v his_o light_n from_o the_o whole_a world_n but_o although_o he_o remove_v from_o one_o nation_n yet_o he_o shine_v upon_o another_o he_o have_v a_o church_n in_o all_o age_n 5._o again_o as_o among_o those_o fruit_n which_o grow_v in_o the_o earth_n such_o as_o grow_v most_o towards_o the_o sun_n be_v sweet_a such_o as_o be_v most_o in_o the_o shade_n be_v sour_a so_o among_o those_o christian_n which_o be_v unite_v unto_o christ_n those_o who_o have_v more_o free_a and_o constant_a communion_n with_o he_o partake_v most_o of_o his_o spirit_n keep_v more_o close_a to_o he_o than_o other_o they_o bring_v forth_o most_o sweet_a and_o savoury_a fruit_n of_o obedience_n their_o service_n have_v a_o more_o please_a and_o heavenly_a relish_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o they_o than_o they_o who_o though_o they_o partake_v of_o some_o life_n and_o warmth_n from_o christ_n yet_o have_v it_o in_o aless_n degree_n and_o be_v less_o careful_a to_o remove_v such_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o sun_n as_o hide_v the_o face_n of_o christ_n from_o they_o therefore_o this_o shall_v move_v we_o to_o draw_v near_o unto_o he_o to_o dwell_v wiâ—h_v he_o to_o walk_v iâ—_n the_o light_n of_o hâ—m_n that_o we_o may_v receive_v heat_n from_o he_o and_o let_v we_o be_v more_o watchful_a that_o we_o step_v not_o aside_o from_o he_o in_o time_n to_o come_v 6._o as_o the_o sun_n be_v able_a more_o effectual_o to_o thaw_v and_o melt_v the_o freeze_a ice_n than_o many_o thousand_o man_n with_o axe_n and_o bettle_n so_o the_o presence_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o love_n manifest_v to_o the_o soul_n and_o shed_v into_o it_o be_v more_o effectual_a in_o melt_v a_o hard_a freeze_a heart_n into_o sound_n godly_a sorrow_n than_o a_o thousand_o threat_n or_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o let_v not_o a_o afflict_a soul_n put_v back_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n tender_v unto_o it_o the_o offer_v of_o grace_n in_o christ-iâ—sus_a because_o it_o be_v not_o yet_o sufficient_o humble_v but_o so_o long_o as_o its_o conscience_n bear_v witness_v that_o it_o seek_v not_o mercy_n for_o a_o cloak_n of_o sin_n but_o for_o a_o motive_n to_o obedience_n let_v it_o with_o
