A51319 The two last dialogues treating of the kingdome of God within us and without us, and of his special providence through Christ over his church from the beginning to the end of all things : whereunto is annexed a brief discourse of the true grounds of the certainty of faith in points of religion, together with some few plain songs of divine hymns on the chief holy-days of the year. a_o wonder_n to_o i_o if_o man_n act_v and_o live_v thus_o apostolical_o as_o you_o describe_v can_v be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o damnation_n philop._n wherefore_o we_o see_v plain_o that_o there_o be_v no_o inconvenience_n to_o the_o reform_a church_n in_o declare_v the_o roman_a church_n to_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o antichrist_n according_o as_o our_o first_o reformer_n general_o hold_v but_o every_o way_n a_o unspeakable_a advantage_n as_o any_o one_o may_v easy_o discern_v that_o will_v consider_v and_o therefore_o we_o be_v clear_a in_o this_o point_n i_o pray_v you_o proceed_v to_o the_o next_o philotheus_n philoth._n the_o next_o document_n as_o you_o call_v it_o philopolis_n be_v this_o that_o see_v we_o be_v so_o well_o assure_v that_o the_o papacy_n be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o antichrist_n or_o that_o city_n of_o babylon_n wherein_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v hold_v captive_a we_o shall_v leave_v no_o string_n nor_o tassel_n of_o our_o ancient_a captivity_n upon_o we_o such_fw-mi i_o mean_v as_o whereby_o they_o may_v take_v hold_n on_o we_o and_o pull_v we_o back_o again_o into_o our_o former_a bondage_n but_o look_v upon_o ourselves_o as_o absolute_o free_a from_o any_o tie_n to_o they_o more_o than_o in_o endeavour_v their_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n which_o we_o know_v so_o experimental_o not_o to_o be_v compass_v by_o needless_a symbolizing_n with_o they_o in_o any_o thing_n i_o conceive_v our_o best_a policy_n be_v studious_o to_o imitate_v they_o in_o nothing_o but_o for_o all_o indifferent_a thing_n to_o think_v rather_o the_o worse_a of_o they_o for_o their_o use_v they_o as_o no_o person_n of_o honour_n will_v willing_o go_v in_o the_o know_a garb_n of_o any_o lewd_a and_o infamous_a person_n whatsoever_o we_o court_v they_o in_o they_o do_v but_o turn_v it_o to_o our_o scorn_n and_o contempt_n and_o be_v the_o more_o harden_v in_o their_o own_o wickedness_n wherefore_o see_v that_o needless_a symbolise_n with_o they_o do_v they_o no_o good_a but_o hurt_n we_o shall_v account_v ourselves_o in_o all_o thing_n indifferent_a perfect_o free_a to_o please_v and_o satisfy_v in_o the_o most_o universal_a manner_n we_o can_v those_o of_o our_o own_o party_n not_o care_v what_o opinion_n or_o custom_n or_o outward_a formality_n the_o romanist_n and_o other_o have_v or_o may_v have_v have_v from_o the_o first_o degeneracy_n of_o the_o church_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o account_v the_o more_o hideous_o soil_v for_o the_o romanist_n use_v of_o they_o but_z support_v ourselves_o upon_o plain_a scripture_n and_o solid_a reason_n to_o use_v and_o profess_v such_o thing_n as_o will_v be_v most_o universal_o agreeable_a to_o we_o all_o and_o make_v most_o for_o the_o safety_n and_o welfare_n of_o the_o true_a kingdom_n of_o christ._n for_o this_o undoubted_o o_o philopolis_n be_v the_o most_o firm_a and_o solid_a interest_n of_o any_o protestant_a church_n or_o state_n whatsoever_o philop._n i_o be_o full_o of_o your_o mind_n philotheus_n and_o this_o freedom_n be_v no_o more_o i_o think_v than_o the_o protestant_a church_n general_o profess_v and_o particular_o the_o church_n of_o england_n in_o the_o book_n altogether_o of_o so_o antique_a a_o character_n provide_v they_o be_v indifferent_a during_o the_o pleasure_n of_o their_o superior_n philoth._n i_o be_o very_o real_o and_o cordial_o for_o that_o peaceable_a compliance_n o_o philopolis_n and_o must_v also_o acknowledge_v that_o there_o be_v a_o special_a reverence_n due_a to_o those_o age_n you_o speak_v of_o but_o you_o must_v remember_v that_o the_o holy_a oracle_n have_v predict_v and_o promise_v we_o better_a time_n than_o those_o i_o mean_v then_o some_o of_o they_o especial_o those_o be_v the_o time_n of_o the_o measure_n of_o combustible_a will_v perish_v by_o the_o word_n and_o by_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v fire_n philop._n reason_n philop._n of_o the_o use_n of_o the_o word_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n in_o counterdistinction_n to_o dry_a reason_n the_o first_o reformer_n talk_v much_o of_o the_o word_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n but_o this_o present_a age_n be_v great_a challenger_n into_o the_o field_n of_o reason_n to_o duel_n it_o there_o and_o their_o adversary_n seem_v to_o like_v the_o way_n of_o combat_n what_o be_v the_o matter_n with_o they_o philotheus_n philoth._n that_o be_v not_o they_o to_o do_v insomuch_o as_o there_o be_v never_o any_o end_n of_o such_o contest_v and_o therefore_o though_o such_o combat_n may_v do_v well_o enough_o among_o the_o learned_a yet_o i_o think_v it_o for_o the_o interest_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n by_o no_o mean_n to_o let_v go_v the_o use_n of_o those_o weapon_n our_o first_o reformer_n find_v so_o available_a in_o the_o recovery_n
