upon_o thy_o body_n otherwise_o soul_n and_o body_n both_o shall_v perish_v the_o house_n shall_v fall_v down_o and_o the_o man_n that_o lodge_v in_o the_o house_n shall_v be_v destroy_v remember_v then_o life_n and_o death_n be_v not_o matter_n to_o be_v scorn_v withal_o they_o be_v not_o word_n nay_o nay_o think_v gravelie_o of_o they_o and_o before_o thy_o soul_n be_v dislodge_v look_v that_o thou_o be_v prepare_v for_o a_o better_a life_n look_v that_o thou_o find_v the_o lord_n of_o life_n christ_n jesus_n by_o his_o spirit_n work_v the_o death_n of_o mortality_n in_o thou_o and_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o life_n that_o shall_v last_v for_o ever_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o spirit_n work_v these_o thing_n in_o your_o heart_n to_o who_o be_v all_o praise_n honour_n and_o glory_n for_o with_o the_o lord_n brethren_n you_o that_o be_v present_v the_o last_o day_n hear_v what_o be_v the_o purpose_n of_o paul_n in_o this_o place_n first_o he_o begin_v to_o comfort_v himself_o and_o all_o other_o that_o be_v to_o die_v and_o to_o be_v dissolve_v against_o death_n &_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n he_o as_o he_o say_v in_o the_o chap._n precede_v &_o 18._o vers_fw-la be_v look_v up_o to_o heaven_n and_o whilst_o he_o be_v look_v up_o to_o heaven_n to_o see_v that_o end_n that_o he_o be_v once_o to_o attain_v to_o there_o come_v in_o betwixt_o his_o sight_n and_o the_o light_n of_o that_o glory_n and_o life_n a_o cloud_n of_o death_n to_o have_v catch_v away_o out_o of_o his_o eye_n if_o it_o have_v be_v possible_a all_o too-looke_a to_o life_n everlasting_a the_o remedic_n against_o it_o we_o show_v you_o be_v faith_n and_o a_o constant_a hope_n with_o a_o sharp_a earnest_a and_o steadfast_a look_v even_o to_o pierce_v in_o throrow_a death_n and_o that_o cloud_n of_o death_n and_o through_o death_n to_o get_v a_o sight_n of_o that_o life_n and_o light_n of_o glory_n which_o lie_v hide_v up_o in_o heaven_n beyond_o death_n we_o know_v say_v the_o apostle_n and_o be_v assure_v that_o our_o body_n and_o the_o earthly_a house_n of_o this_o tabernacle_n shall_v be_v dissolve_v yet_o we_o shall_v get_v a_o build_n for_o a_o house_n a_o building_n that_o be_v from_o god_n not_o make_v with_o man_n hand_n but_o a_o eternal_a building_n that_o be_v situate_v in_o the_o heaven_n above_o the_o carth_n when_o he_o have_v set_v down_o this_o remedy_n he_o begin_v to_o comfort_v himself_o and_o other_o by_o a_o sure_a faith_n that_o after_o death_n he_o shall_v live_v again_o after_o the_o dissolution_n of_o his_o mortal_a body_n he_o shall_v receive_v a_o glorious_a body_n the_o first_o argument_n of_o his_o assurance_n be_v from_o the_o desire_n he_o have_v of_o life_n sigh_v with_o a_o earnest_a desire_n of_o that_o kingdom_n which_o be_v from_o heaven_n this_o desire_n never_o disappoint_v man_n never_o be_v there_o any_o man_n that_o have_v a_o earnest_a desire_n of_o life_n &_o glory_n and_o have_v the_o true_a knowledge_n and_o mean_a to_o attain_v to_o this_o glory_n that_o be_v disappoint_v of_o his_o desire_n but_o who_o ever_o desire_v most_o earnest_o to_o be_v glorify_v most_o certain_o they_o live_v now_o in_o heaven_n and_o at_o this_o hour_n they_o be_v glorify_v there_o and_o none_o there_o shall_v be_v that_o shall_v have_v this_o desire_n and_o strive_v to_o throng_v into_o heaven_n violent_o mat._n 11._o 12._o but_o they_o shall_v enjoy_v heaven_n after_o their_o depart_n now_o in_o the_o text_n which_o we_o have_v read_v we_o follow_v out_o the_o assurance_n and_o warrande_n which_o the_o apostle_n have_v of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v the_o second_o assurance_n and_o warrant_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v be_v in_o the_o first_o word_n he_o say_v the_o apostle_n that_o have_v create_v we_o for_o this_o thing_n be_v god_n etc._n etc._n the_o argument_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v in_o these_o word_n be_v from_o the_o end_n of_o our_o creation_n god_n have_v create_v we_o to_o this_o end_n to_o wit_n that_o in_o the_o end_n this_o mortality_n wherewith_o we_o be_v clothe_v may_v be_v swallow_v up_o of_o life_n therefore_o live_v must_v we_o in_o heaven_n this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o our_o creation_n therefore_o it_o can_v fail_v but_o we_o must_v be_v glorify_v learn_v then_o the_o manner_n of_o our_o glorify_v be_v this_o it_o be_v god_n not_o man_n that_o have_v make_v we_o and_o create_v we_o to_o this_o end_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o god_n can_v be_v disappoint_v of_o the_o end_n which_o he_o set_v before_o he_o of_o his_o work_n man_n may_v be_v disappoint_v for_o he_o will_v begin_v a_o work_n for_o some_o purpose_n but_o oft_o time_n he_o will_v be_v disappoint_v of_o that_o purpose_n he_o will_v build_v a_o house_n to_o dwell_v in_o but_o it_o may_v be_v he_o never_o dwell_v in_o it_o another_o will_v dwell_v therein_o god_n when_o he_o work_v a_o work_n to_o any_o end_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o he_o can_v be_v disappoint_v all_o the_o world_n if_o they_o will_v stand_v up_o and_o oppone_v to_o god_n work_n they_o can_v hinder_v it_o that_o work_n that_o god_n work_v in_o we_o be_v such_o a_o work_n that_o tend_v to_o life_n as_o to_o the_o end_n thereof_o who_o shall_v condemn_v we_o say_v the_o apostle_n it_o be_v god_n that_o justify_v we_o roman_n 8._o 33._o will_v he_o justify_v thou_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o condemn_v thou_o will_v he_o save_v thou_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o make_v thou_o perish_v so_o be_v it_o of_o his_o whole_a church_n in_o general_a suppose_v all_o the_o world_n be_v conspire_v against_o his_o church_n he_o will_v have_v it_o safe_a and_o wonderful_o work_v he_o the_o salvation_n of_o his_o church_n &_o every_o member_n thereof_o through_o death_n he_o bring_v they_o to_o life_n so_o that_o it_o be_v folly_n to_o man_n to_o strive_v against_o the_o work_n of_o god._n yet_o look_v to_o the_o word_n he_o that_o have_v create_v we_o to_o this_o end_n be_v god_n what_o creation_n be_v this_o that_o he_o mean_v of_o be_v this_o that_o first_o creation_n of_o adam_n and_o eva_n of_o every_o one_o of_o we_o in_o they_o that_o be_v at_o the_o beginning_n not_o so_o that_o creation_n fail_v indeed_o we_o be_v first_o create_v to_o live_v and_o through_o that_o first_o creation_n every_o one_o of_o we_o get_v a_o certain_a right_a to_o live_v for_o ever_o but_o that_o right_a we_o lose_v in_o our_o own_o default_n we_o be_v fall_v from_o that_o right_n of_o our_o creation_n in_o the_o fall_n of_o adam_n so_o we_o must_v seek_v another_o creation_n or_o else_o we_o shall_v never_o see_v life_n for_o we_o have_v no_o right_n to_o that_o first_o creation_n which_o be_v in_o all_o holiness_n according_a to_o the_o image_n of_o god_n ephes_n 4._o 24._o if_o thou_o stick_v to_o that_o first_o creation_n and_o old_a birthright_n thou_o shall_v never_o see_v life_n then_o the_o apostle_n mean_v of_o another_o what_o other_o make_n or_o create_v of_o we_o be_v this_o it_o be_v our_o regeneration_n or_o renew_v again_o which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o new_a birth_n and_o beget_n from_o the_o which_o we_o be_v call_v new_a creature_n 2._o corin._n 5._o 17._o then_o brethren_n will_v thou_o have_v a_o sure_a argument_n that_o thou_o shall_v live_v after_o this_o life_n &_o woe_n to_o thou_o if_o thou_o live_v not_o after_o this_o life_n wo_n to_o they_o that_o ever_o see_v this_o world_n and_o they_o get_v not_o a_o life_n after_o this_o life_n for_o this_o life_n will_v away_o look_v if_o thou_o be_v regenerate_v and_o renew_v look_v if_o thou_o be_v sanctify_v and_o find_v a_o slay_a of_o thy_o lust_n within_o thou_o look_v if_o thou_o find_v the_o life_n of_o god_n by_o his_o spirit_n work_v within_o thou_o not_o this_o natural_a life_n but_o this_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a life_n begin_v in_o thou_o not_o by_o nature_n but_o by_o grace_n if_o thou_o have_v this_o thou_o have_v a_o warrant_n that_o thou_o shall_v live_v and_o albeit_o
this_o natural_a life_n shall_v be_v take_v from_o thou_o thou_o shall_v get_v another_o life_n everlasting_a in_o glory_n but_o if_o thou_o find_v thyself_o not_o renew_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n take_v this_o life_n from_o thou_o thou_o shall_v not_o get_v life_n everlasting_a in_o glory_n so_o look_v if_o thou_o be_v a_o new_a creature_n thou_o have_v get_v a_o great_a grace_n than_o to_o be_v bear_v to_o a_o earthly_a kingdom_n if_o so_o be_v thou_o may_v assure_v thyself_o of_o lif_n everlasting_a what_o be_v this_o newness_n in_o the_o new_a creature_n this_o newness_n that_o be_v in_o the_o new_a creature_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o same_o life_n which_o we_o shall_v live_v in_o heaven_n and_o be_v begin_v here_o this_o newness_n be_v only_o this_o new_a life_n of_o regeneration_n which_o life_n so_o long_o as_o thou_o live_v here_o from_o the_o time_n that_o thou_o have_v get_v a_o sponke_n thereof_o piece_n and_o piece_n eat_v up_o the_o old_a and_o canker_a nature_n the_o life_n of_o god_n within_o thou_o will_v consume_v even_o as_o thou_o consume_v the_o meat_n thou_o eat_v the_o old_a corruption_n which_o lie_v in_o thy_o nature_n and_o in_o the_o end_n in_o the_o glorious_a resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a it_o shall_v be_v altogether_o abolish_v this_o life_n then_o which_o be_v begin_v here_o it_o shall_v open_v the_o mouth_n and_o swallow_v up_o death_n and_o death_n thereafter_o shall_v have_v no_o more_o place_n this_o life_n be_v only_o eat_v up_o by_o little_a and_o little_a death_n here_o but_o at_o that_o time_n it_o shall_v swallow_v it_o up_o whole_o and_o thou_o shall_v say_v with_o paul_n death_n be_v swallow_v up_o 1._o cor._n 15._o 54._o so_o well_o be_v the_o soul_n that_o have_v a_o warrande_n of_o his_o new_a creation_n whether_o he_o die_v in_o his_o bed_n or_o out_o of_o it_o he_o shall_v die_v with_o joy_n then_o my_o counsel_n be_v see_v death_n be_v daily_a threaten_v let_v every_o one_o strive_v to_o get_v this_o assurance_n of_o this_o new_a life_n begin_v in_o he_o here_o that_o it_o may_v swallow_v up_o death_n woe_n be_v to_o they_o that_o have_v not_o this_o assurance_n this_o be_v the_o second_o assurance_n of_o life_n everlasting_a i_o pray_v you_o mark_v these_o assurance_n for_o paul_n have_v such_o a_o earnest_a desire_n that_o he_o seek_v all_o assurance_n and_o warrande_n of_o this_o life_n and_o he_o be_v reign_v now_o in_o heaven_n so_o thou_o who_o thirste_a after_o life_n learn_v at_o he_o now_o rest_v the_o third_o warrande_n in_o the_o next_o word_n who_o also_o have_v give_v we_o the_o earnest_n of_o the_o spirit_n learn_v the_o word_n for_o all_o the_o doctrine_n rise_v of_o the_o word_n then_o the_o three_o warrant_n be_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n jesus_n in_o thou_o if_o ever_o thou_o mind_v to_o have_v life_n hereafter_o thou_o must_v have_v god_n spirit_n in_o thou_o not_o only_o thy_o own_o spirit_n but_o god_n spirit_n flow_v from_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n &_o enter_v into_o thy_o body_n &_o soul_n behold_v the_o liberality_n of_o god_n when_o he_o by_o his_o spirit_n have_v renew_v thou_o he_o will_v not_o take_v that_o spirit_n from_o thou_o as_o a_o man_n will_v do_v when_o he_o have_v build_v a_o work_n he_o will_v take_v his_o hand_n from_o it_o stand_v if_o it_o will_v or_o not_o but_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o so_o he_o have_v renew_v thou_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n which_o he_o put_v within_o thou_o o_o how_o the_o lord_n put_v the_o three_o person_n of_o the_o trinity_n in_o thou_o and_o make_v he_o a_o earnest-pennie_n to_o thou_o of_o life_n everlasting_a because_o thy_o regeneration_n be_v unperfect_a and_o thou_o have_v not_o yet_o attain_v to_o that_o life_n therefore_o he_o let_v his_o spirit_n abide_v in_o thou_o assure_v thou_o as_o a_o earnest-pennie_n that_o whatsoever_o god_n have_v promise_v he_o shall_v perform_v it_o to_o thou_o and_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v disappoint_v of_o a_o jot_n thereof_o such_o be_v the_o infidelity_n of_o our_o nature_n that_o all_o the_o promise_n all_o the_o oath_n which_o he_o make_v to_o confirm_v his_o promise_n all_o his_o sacrament_n which_o he_o have_v join_v to_o his_o promise_n can_v persuade_v us._n but_o look_v to_o this_o third_o warrande_n have_v thou_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n if_o he_o be_v in_o thou_o he_o will_v be_v quick_a work_v joy_n with_o sigh_n he_o can_v be_v idle_a he_o will_v be_v work_v the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n both_o day_n and_o night_n then_o anger_v he_o not_o ephes_n 4._o 30._o away_o with_o filthy_a cogitation_n away_o with_o every_o rot_a word_n away_o with_o every_o evil_a deed_n labour_v to_o pleasure_v he_o day_n &_o night_n and_o strive_v to_o keep_v he_o and_o thou_o shall_v havea_v warrande_n of_o life_n in_o thy_o bosom_n and_o when_o thou_o be_v die_v thou_o shall_v find_v such_o sweetness_n in_o death_n as_o be_v wonderful_a to_o tell_v none_o ever_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n but_o in_o death_n they_o have_v unspeakable_a joy_n then_o seek_v to_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o get_v his_o spirit_n within_o thou_o and_o have_v get_v this_o spirit_n keep_v he_o never_o possess_v heaven_n except_o thou_o have_v the_o evidence_n thereof_o lay_v up_o in_o thy_o charter_n kiss_v now_o thy_o evidence_n be_v the_o same_o evidence_n that_o paul_n have_v and_o the_o same_o kind_n of_o evidence_n serve_v for_o all_o it_o be_v a_o inheritance_n that_o all_o man_n must_v get_v one_o sort_n of_o charter_n must_v serve_v for_o one_o inheritance_n what_o then_o can_v be_v the_o charter_n and_o evidence_n can_v thou_o sigh_v for_o that_o heavenly_a inheritance_n can_v thou_o have_v a_o desire_n of_o it_o there_o be_v thy_o first_o evidence_n then_o find_v thou_o thyself_o to_o be_v renew_v find_v thou_o christ_n life_n in_o thou_o the_o life_n of_o jesus_n be_v manifest_a in_o i_o say_v paul_n 2._o cor._n 4._o 10._o find_v thou_o the_o wicked_a life_n of_o this_o world_n reform_v there_o be_v the_o second_o evidence_n yet_o more_o find_v thou_o the_o worker_n of_o the_o desire_n and_o the_o worker_n of_o thy_o regeneration_n the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n within_o thou_o then_o keep_v he_o well_o there_o be_v the_o best_a evidence_n of_o all_o the_o evidence_n of_o thy_o inheritance_n have_v these_o assure_v thyself_o of_o heaven_n but_o want_v thou_o these_o or_o any_o of_o they_o thou_o shall_v never_o get_v that_o inheritance_n in_o heaven_n as_o these_o three_o be_v three_o evidence_n of_o thy_o heavenly_a inheritance_n so_o they_o be_v three_o prop_n of_o faith_n that_o gripe_v this_o heavenly_a life_n they_o be_v the_o three_o pillar_n that_o hold_v up_o faith_n which_o be_v build_v upon_o they_o cut_v one_o of_o these_o pillar_n away_o and_o thou_o shall_v lose_v faith_n and_o hope_n but_o here_o it_o may_v be_v ask_v be_v all_o these_o three_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v i_o answer_v as_o for_o the_o desire_n sigh_v and_o sob_v for_o that_o heavenly_a inheritance_n it_o end_v with_o this_o life_n and_o in_o that_o life_n to_o come_v all_o weep_a shall_v be_v take_v away_o revel_v 21._o 4._o mourn_v and_o groan_n in_o time_n then_o hereafter_o shall_v come_v joy_n and_o pure_a joy_n a_o trouble_a joy_n be_v â—eere_o in_o this_o life_n but_o hereafter_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o pure_a and_o solid_a joy_n and_o nothing_o but_o joy_n so_o this_o mourning_n cease_v then_o and_o be_v not_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o as_o to_o the_o new_a creature_n and_o regeneration_n it_o be_v of_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o it_o be_v the_o beginnning_n and_o first_o part_n of_o that_o heavenly_a glory_n so_o that_o our_o
etc._n etc._n he_o be_v assure_v of_o god_n testimony_n but_o he_o trust_v that_o the_o corinthian_n also_o will_v bear_v he_o record_n that_o he_o have_v traneil_v true_o he_o say_v in_o your_o conscience_n it_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v that_o he_o appeal_v to_o their_o conscience_n not_o their_o mouth_n but_o their_o conscience_n for_o the_o mouth_n of_o man_n will_v give_v one_o testimony_n but_o the_o conscience_n will_v give_v another_o and_o when_o the_o conscience_n will_v be_v say_v the_o man_n have_v speak_v true_o and_o in_o sincerity_n the_o mouth_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n will_v be_v backebit_v he_o and_o the_o conscience_n will_v say_v thou_o lie_v mouth_n speak_v therefore_o ever_o according_a to_o conscience_n for_o if_o thy_o conscience_n speak_v one_o thing_n and_o thy_o mouth_n another_o thou_o shall_v be_v challenge_v of_o a_o lie_n it_o be_v true_a indeed_o man_n know_v not_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n as_o when_o a_o minister_n be_v speak_v you_o can_v judge_v of_o his_o heart_n the_o lord_n judge_v it_o yet_o a_o faithful_a and_o sincere_a man_n he_o will_v utter_v sometime_o the_o inward_a sincerity_n of_o his_o heart_n in_o his_o word_n and_o deed_n that_o all_o that_o see_v and_o hear_v he_o will_v look_v in_o therethorowe_n and_o see_v the_o inward_a sincerity_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o give_v a_o outward_a confession_n of_o it_o now_o brethren_n then_o in_o this_o example_n of_o paul_n you_o have_v such_o a_o protestation_n as_o the_o faithful_a pastor_n shall_v make_v in_o the_o hour_n of_o his_o death_n and_o which_o shall_v be_v his_o testament_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n in_o his_o ministry_n the_o outward_a speak_n and_o the_o inward_a sincerity_n of_o the_o heart_n if_o he_o will_v protest_v of_o his_o faithfulness_n look_v that_o he_o protest_v as_o paul_n do_v first_o outward_o i_o have_v use_v all_o diligence_n in_o discharge_v all_o the_o outward_a part_n of_o my_o call_n i_o have_v keep_v nothing_o aback_o and_o then_o inward_o as_o for_o my_o sincerity_n first_o i_o take_v god_n to_o be_v witness_n who_o know_v and_o only_o see_v my_o heart_n with_o what_o sincerity_n i_o have_v speak_v and_o then_o i_o take_v you_o to_o witness_v that_o have_v be_v conversant_a with_o i_o so_o far_o as_o you_o can_v know_v the_o inward_a sincerity_n of_o my_o heart_n by_o my_o live_n and_o outward_a action_n will_v to_o god_n we_o can_v have_v this_o sincerity_n and_o i_o pray_v the_o lord_n grant_v i_o this_o sincerity_n and_o i_o beseech_v he_o that_o as_o he_o have_v be_v with_o i_o since_o the_o begin_n of_o my_o ministry_n so_o he_o will_v never_o leave_v i_o until_o the_o time_n i_o finish_v my_o course_n with_o joy_n to_o his_o glory_n and_o comfort_n of_o his_o church_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n to_o who_o with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v all_o honour_n praise_n and_o glory_n both_o now_o and_o evermore_o so_o be_v it_o the_o four_o sermon_n ii_o to_o renew_v man_n who_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o trespass_n therefore_o he_o begin_v to_o instruct_v nicodemus_n in_o this_o doctrine_n of_o regeneration_n and_o he_o bind_v he_o to_o learn_v it_o with_o such_o a_o necessity_n that_o except_o he_o and_o whole_a mankind_n be_v regenerate_v there_o be_v none_o of_o they_o that_o shall_v see_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o this_o he_o do_v with_o a_o great_a asseveration_n say_v very_o very_o nicodemus_n hear_v and_o fear_v that_o heavy_a denunciation_n of_o banishment_n from_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n but_o not_o understand_v this_o regeneration_n begin_v to_o reason_n that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n unpossible_a that_o he_o can_v be_v bear_v again_o because_o he_o be_v a_o old_a man_n and_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o a_o old_a man_n can_v enter_v into_o his_o mother_n womb_n again_o christ_n answer_v and_o answer_v insist_v in_o that_o proposition_n of_o regeneration_n urge_v he_o again_o with_o a_o necessity_n of_o the_o same_o regeneration_n only_o he_o add_v to_o that_o that_o he_o speak_v before_o the_o manner_n and_o way_n of_o this_o beget_n to_o wit_n of_o water_n and_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v not_o a_o fleshlie_o generation_n but_o a_o spiritual_a generation_n whereby_o a_o man_n be_v beget_v again_o by_o y_z e_z renew_v of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n in_o he_o of_o the_o which_o water_n be_v the_o nicodemus_n what_o a_o kind_n of_o birth_n it_o be_v that_o say_v he_o that_o be_v beget_v of_o the_o spirit_n be_v spirit_n that_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n work_v beget_v not_o a_o fleshly_a or_o corrupt_a creature_n but_o a_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a creature_n this_o he_o set_v not_o down_o simple_o but_o he_o set_v it_o down_o by_o way_n of_o comparison_n with_o the_o fleshlie_o generation_n to_o the_o end_n that_o nicodemus_n and_o all_o man_n see_v the_o corruption_n of_o the_o flesh_n they_o shall_v esteem_v the_o more_o high_o of_o that_o spiritual_a generation_n and_o he_o say_v that_o the_o thing_n beget_v of_o the_o flesh_n be_v flesh_n that_o be_v as_o the_o flesh_n a_o corrupt_a mass_n of_o flesh_n and_o blood_n can_v beget_v but_o corrupt_a flesh_n even_o so_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n can_v begâ—tte_v but_o that_o that_o be_v spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a and_o thus_o yeesâ—e_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o place_n but_o because_o this_o place_n offer_v occasion_n to_o speak_v somewhat_o of_o regeneration_n whereof_o the_o world_n have_v never_o great_a need_n than_o at_o this_o present_a for_o i_o think_v the_o world_n be_v go_v back_o again_o to_o that_o old_a corruption_n from_o the_o which_o they_o be_v deliver_v therefore_o to_o the_o end_n that_o all_o thing_n may_v be_v the_o more_o clear_a i_o shall_v to_o sin_n the_o natural_a man_n can_v do_v nothing_o but_o sin_n all_o his_o action_n be_v sin_n but_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o god_n can_v sin_v now_o this_o generation_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v call_v regeneration_n which_o word_n albeit_o it_o be_v common_o in_o many_o man_n mouth_n yet_o few_o understand_v what_o it_o mean_v therefore_o we_o shall_v set_v down_o the_o nature_n and_o definition_n thereof_o and_o touch_v some_o particular_a circumstance_n which_o may_v serve_v for_o the_o better_a understanding_n thereof_o then_o what_o be_v regeneration_n it_o be_v a_o alteration_n and_o change_v of_o the_o whole_a nature_n of_o man_n accomplish_v and_o perform_v by_o the_o powerful_a operation_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n when_o i_o call_v regeneration_n a_o change_n of_o nature_n i_o mean_v not_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v any_o change_n of_o the_o substance_n &_o essence_n itself_o either_o of_o the_o soul_n or_o of_o y_fw-fr â—_o body_n as_o if_o that_o by_o regeneration_n the_o old_a substance_n be_v quite_o abolish_v and_o a_o new_a substance_n bring_v forth_o but_o i_o mean_v that_o there_o be_v a_o change_n and_o alteration_n of_o the_o quality_n which_o be_v in_o the_o substance_n i_o will_v let_v you_o see_v this_o in_o the_o power_n and_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n as_o in_o the_o mind_n and_o reason_n in_o the_o will_n and_o in_o the_o affection_n in_o the_o mind_n and_o reason_n there_o must_v be_v a_o change_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o flesh_n into_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n nothing_o be_v a_o great_a enemy_n to_o god_n and_o his_o glory_n to_o thyself_o and_o thy_o salvation_n than_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o therefore_o if_o thou_o will_v be_v save_v this_o wisdom_n must_v be_v mortify_v &_o thou_o must_v become_v a_o fool_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v wise_a as_o you_o may_v read_v in_o the_o first_o epistle_n of_o s._n paul_n to_o the_o corinthian_n the_o 3._o chapter_n and_o the_o 18._o verse_n in_o stead_n of_o this_o wisdom_n must_v be_v pour_v into_o the_o mind_n the_o wisdom_n of_o god._n in_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n there_o must_v be_v a_o change_n of_o the_o frowardness_n and_o wicked_a inclination_n into_o holiness_n and_o a_o good_a inclination_n whereas_o before_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o they_o but_o frowardness_n lord_n that_o man_n be_v a_o froward_a creature_n when_o god_n command_v he_o to_o go_v one_o way_n he_o will_v go_v the_o plain_a contrary_n that_o must_v be_v mortify_v and_o slay_v and_o in_o stead_n of_o it_o there_o must_v be_v wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n a_o propension_n and_o willingness_n in_o some_o measure_n to_o pursue_v and_o to_o do_v that_o which_o the_o lord_n command_v and_o have_v pleasure_n into_o now_o howbeit_o i_o call_v regeneration_n a_o change_n only_o of_o the_o quality_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o light_a a_o matter_n and_o so_o easy_o perform_v as_o man_n will_v think_v for_o it_o be_v a_o great_a work_n to_o renew_v man_n than_o to_o create_v he_o in_o the_o beginning_n god_n create_v all_o thing_n with_o his_o word_n but_o before_o man_n can_v be_v renew_v the_o son_n of_o god_n behoove_v to_o become_v the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o suffer_v shame_n and_o ignominy_n &_o die_v a_o accurse_a death_n even_o the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n it_o be_v a_o easy_a thing_n for_o thou_o to_o say_v i_o must_v be_v change_v ere_o ever_o i_o see_v heaven_n but_o brethren_n it_o be_v not_o so_o soon_o do_v it_o be_v the_o most_o difficile_a thing_n under_o the_o sun_n to_o get_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o creature_n change_v and_o they_o who_o have_v find_v this_o work_n sensible_o to_o have_v be_v begin_v in_o they_o have_v find_v how_o hard_o it_o be_v by_o their_o own_o experience_n for_o i_o tell_v thou_o that_o before_o thou_o be_v renew_v thou_o must_v deny_v thy_o own_o self_n christ_n say_v thou_o must_v renounce_v thyself_o and_o take_v up_o thy_o cross_n daily_a and_o follow_v he_o luke_n chapter_n 9_o verse_n 23._o if_o the_o lord_n have_v only_o bid_v we_o renounce_v our_o friend_n our_o father_n our_o mother_n our_o riches_n our_o land_n and_o such_o other_o thing_n as_o be_v without_o we_o we_o will_v have_v think_v it_o a_o matter_n hard_a enough_o and_o scarce_o will_v we_o have_v be_v induce_v to_o give_v obedience_n as_o you_o see_v in_o the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n matth._n 19_o 16._o but_o when_o the_o lord_n command_v we_o to_o renounce_v ourselves_o even_o that_o thing_n that_o be_v most_o excellent_a that_o which_o be_v most_o wise_a this_o reason_n itself_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o furnish_v so_o many_o reason_n to_o dissuade_v man_n either_o to_o
