voice_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o they_o that_o hear_v shall_v live_v so_o again_o ephes._n 5._o 14._o awake_v thou_o that_o sleep_v and_o stand_v up_o from_o the_o dead_a and_o christ_n death_n 4._o the_o degree_n of_o this_o death_n 5._o the_o use_n to_o be_v make_v of_o it_o be_v first_o what_o this_o death_n be_v to_o know_v this_o we_o must_v understand_v that_o as_o a_o corporal_a death_n death_n so_o a_o spiritual_a death_n have_v two_o thing_n in_o it_o first_o as_o in_o the_o natural_a death_n there_o be_v a_o privation_n of_o life_n when_o the_o soul_n be_v separate_v from_o the_o body_n so_o in_o the_o spiritual_a death_n there_o be_v a_o privation_n of_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n namely_o the_o extinction_n of_o original_a righteousness_n by_o reason_n of_o which_o a_o man_n can_v neither_o set_v hand_n nor_o foot_n forward_o in_o the_o way_n of_o goodness_n as_o paul_n confess_v of_o himself_o for_o as_o the_o separation_n of_o the_o soul_n make_v the_o body_n to_o die_v so_o the_o extinction_n of_o original_a righteousness_n make_v the_o soul_n to_o die_v second_o as_o in_o the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n there_o be_v a_o stink_a carcase_n leave_v when_o the_o soul_n be_v depart_v thence_o so_o in_o the_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v a_o positive_a corrupt_a quality_n leave_v call_v the_o flesh_n whereby_o a_o man_n be_v prone_a to_o do_v all_o evil_a and_o therefore_o they_o be_v call_v dead_a work_n call_v therefore_o leave_v the_o principle_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n let_v we_o go_v on_o unto_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o you_o be_v a_o dead_a man_n the_o second_o privitive_a sign_n be_v coldness_n when_o a_o man_n be_v dead_a heat_n he_o grow_v cold_a so_o be_v it_o with_o man_n dead_a in_o sin_n they_o may_v pray_v but_o it_o be_v cold_o and_o so_o in_o all_o other_o holy_a duty_n they_o be_v very_o cold_a but_o some_o man_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o object_n and_o say_v object_n you_o tell_v we_o of_o coldness_n but_o for_o any_o thing_n i_o can_v see_v there_o be_v as_o much_o coldness_n in_o the_o best_a man_n for_o your_o godly_a man_n be_v sometime_o cold_a in_o their_o prayer_n it_o be_v true_a answ._n but_o there_o be_v this_o difference_n between_o the_o coldness_n of_o a_o godly_a man_n and_o a_o dead_a man_n if_o the_o mean_n be_v use_v to_o a_o godly_a man_n it_o do_v bring_v life_n to_o he_o again_o if_o he_o be_v rub_v and_o chafe_v with_o admonition_n or_o have_v the_o aquavitae_n of_o the_o word_n he_o will_v recover_v his_o heat_n because_o the_o inward_a principle_n of_o heat_n still_o remain_v within_o he_o but_o to_o a_o wicked_a man_n use_v never_o so_o many_o reproof_n or_o admonition_n he_o will_v still_o remain_v cold_a let_v this_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o a_o dead_a man_n the_o four_o privitive_a sign_n be_v senselessness_n he_o that_o be_v dead_a sense_n be_v senseless_a so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o spiritual_a death_n there_o be_v no_o sense_n in_o it_o they_o can_v neither_o see_v hear_v nor_o taste_v i_o but_o some_o man_n will_v object_v and_o say_v object_n that_o be_v not_o true_a always_o for_o even_o the_o wicked_a sometime_o know_v m●tters_n of_o faith_n nay_o and_o sometime_o they_o relish_v they_o too_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v open_v as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o dead_a idol_n so_o may_v it_o be_v say_v of_o they_o mat._n 13._o 13._o eye_n they_o have_v and_o see_v not_o ear_n and_o hear_v not_o first_o for_o see_v they_o see_v not_o aright_o god_n child_n see_v experimental_o the_o wicked_a only_o by_o contemplation_n and_o there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o they_o for_o as_o we_o see_v there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n betwixt_o know_v fire_n to_o be_v hot_a and_o the_o feel_n of_o it_o so_o between_o a_o mere_a notionall_a knowledge_n of_o god_n will_n and_o a_o knowledge_n that_o do_v like_a and_o approve_v it_o second_o for_o taste_n they_o find_v no_o taste_n in_o god_n word_n or_o if_o they_o find_v any_o like_o a_o vitiate_a palate_n they_o account_v that_o which_o be_v most_o sweet_a to_o be_v very_o bitter_a three_o for_o smell_v they_o smell_v no_o sweetness_n in_o christ_n name_n whereas_o to_o his_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o sweet_a ointment_n pour_v out_o that_o perfume_v all_o the_o room_n four_o for_o feeling_n they_o feel_v not_o whether_o the_o law_n or_o gospel_n be_v apply_v to_o they_o rub_v over_o their_o scar_n and_o make_v they_o run_v down_o with_o blood_n they_o be_v notwithstanding_o all_o that_o senseless_a still_o they_o may_v have_v a_o counterfeit_a feeling_n arise_v from_o a_o natural_a conscience_n but_o to_o have_v such_o a_o feeling_n as_o may_v drive_v they_o to_o christ_n they_o can_v and_o therefore_o still_o they_o be_v but_o dead_a man_n the_o five_o sign_n be_v this_o other_o a_o live_a member_n if_o the_o body_n be_v in_o danger_n will_v have_v a_o sympathize_v and_o feel_n of_o the_o danger_n as_o the_o hand_n will_v lift_v itself_o up_o to_o save_v the_o head_n so_o now_o if_o we_o hear_v the_o case_n of_o god_n church_n in_o what_o danger_n it_o be_v if_o we_o take_v it_o not_o to_o heart_n or_o be_v not_o affect_v with_o it_o especial_o now_o we_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n thereof_o it_o be_v a_o certain_a sign_n we_o be_v dead_a man_n we_o shall_v have_v the_o spirit_n that_o moses_n and_o paul_n have_v who_o even_o wish_v to_o be_v stroy_v so_o they_o may_v save_v the_o church_n moses_n rather_o than_o that_o shall_v perish_v will_v have_v his_o name_n race_v out_o of_o the_o book_n of_o life_n paul_n for_o the_o church_n sake_n will_v be_v anathema_n it_o be_v a_o true_a sign_n of_o a_o live_a member_n to_o be_v touch_v with_o other_o misery_n this_o be_v a_o ecstasy_n of_o love_n in_o which_o out_o of_o love_n to_o the_o church_n they_o forget_v themselves_o this_o here_o we_o must_v know_v that_o if_o the_o creature_n can_v destroy_v itself_o for_o god_n it_o can_v not_o but_o be_v well_o because_o the_o good_a of_o the_o creature_n be_v more_o contain_v in_o god_n than_o in_o itself_o as_o the_o beam_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v more_o contain_v in_o the_o sun_n than_o of_o it_o for_o they_o do_v not_o grow_v by_o it_o so_o these_o man_n they_o seem_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n grow_v but_o they_o make_v no_o progress_n in_o it_o they_o may_v seem_v to_o feed_v on_o the_o sacrament_n but_o they_o grow_v by_o none_o of_o these_o mean_n they_o still_o go_v on_o in_o their_o old_a tract_n they_o be_v not_o unlike_o some_o man_n which_o eat_v as_o much_o or_o more_o than_o other_o but_o be_v never_o the_o fat_a but_o as_o lean_a as_o ever_o they_o be_v even_o so_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o deliver_v the_o spiritual_a food_n of_o the_o word_n in_o as_o great_a abundance_n as_o ever_o yet_o where_o be_v the_o fruit_n who_o grow_v any_o fat_a any_o better_a like_n than_o before_o we_o belove_v desire_v not_o to_o have_v again_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o teach_n in_o your_o understanding_n only_o although_o that_o be_v good_a but_o in_o your_o practice_n like_a shepherd_n which_o will_v not_o have_v their_o hay_n again_o of_o their_o sheep_n in_o hay_n but_o in_o the_o milk_n and_o wool_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n peter_n exhort_v they_o 1_o pet._n 2._o 2._o as_o new_o bear_v babe_n to_o desire_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n and_o why_o that_o they_o may_v grow_v thereby_o though_o thou_o be_v never_o so_o weak_a at_o the_o first_o yet_o if_o thou_o grow_v strong_a it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o life_n seem_v you_o be_v still_o but_o dead_a man_n the_o second_o sign_n be_v principle_n as_o the_o angel_n though_o they_o be_v move_v yet_o it_o be_v from_o no_o inward_a but_o from_o a_o outward_a principle_n so_o these_o civil_a man_n and_o all_o hypocrite_n may_v be_v move_v and_o do_v all_o that_o good_a man_n can_v do_v but_o it_o be_v not_o from_o a_o inward_a principle_n but_o from_o lead_v the_o world_n the_o flesh_n and_o the_o devil_n where_o such_o guide_n lead_v a_o man_n he_o be_v like_a to_o run_v a_o good_a course_n now_o the_o point_n of_o doctrine_n that_o arise_v from_o the_o first_o of_o these_o be_v that_o whosoever_o walk_v in_o any_o course_n of_o sin_n 1._o be_v a_o dead_a man_n and_o the_o child_n of_o wrath_n that_o be_v if_o there_o be_v any_o roll_a lust_n
