without_o sanctify_a grace_n and_o true_a belief_n many_o have_v all_o these_o who_o yet_o never_o turn_v unfeigned_o to_o god_n when_o the_o sickness_n be_v now_o grow_v great_a in_o quantity_n this_o absolute_o take_v make_v the_o patient_a further_o of_o health_n but_o the_o physician_n may_v intend_v this_o because_o he_o do_v see_v his_o medicine_n will_v the_o better_a work_n on_o it_o and_o educe_v it_o when_o it_o be_v grow_v to_o such_o ripeness_n if_o a_o man_n fall_v out_o of_o a_o dead_a palsy_n into_o a_o light_a frenzy_n frenzy_n of_o itself_o be_v no_o paration_n to_o health_n but_o to_o the_o physician_n who_o can_v work_v on_o he_o more_o fit_o in_o this_o take_n then_o in_o the_o other_o it_o may_v be_v a_o preparative_n to_o health_n thus_o to_o be_v like_o a_o aguish_a man_n on_o his_o good_a day_n or_o like_v to_o some_o mad_a man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o intermission_n be_v in_o itself_o as_o far_o from_o state_n of_o health_n as_o otherwise_o but_o yet_o the_o physician_n may_v use_v such_o a_o state_n as_o a_o way_n to_o health_n choose_v rather_o to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o this_o take_n then_o in_o the_o fit_n thus_o it_o be_v not_o the_o height_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v not_o fear_v of_o hell_n though_o contrary_a to_o the_o apoplexy_n of_o deep_a security_n it_o be_v not_o a_o moral_a course_n which_o come_v not_o from_o true_a sanctification_n that_o of_o themselves_o can_v make_v near_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n but_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o god_n who_o do_v intend_v to_o turn_v they_o hereunto_o thus_o if_o god_n stir_v up_o a_o man_n to_o live_v according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n virtuous_o it_o may_v be_v in_o regard_n of_o god_n intention_n a_o prepare_v he_o to_o receive_v further_a grace_n of_o effectual_a vocation_n but_o all_o a_o man_n can_v do_v from_o natural_a strength_n of_o itself_o profit_v nothing_o four_o that_o where_o effectual_a raise_v up_o the_o hart_n to_o faith_n begin_v immortal_a seed_n come_v to_o be_v sow_v in_o we_o beside_o that_o a_o man_n be_v no_o soon_o call_v than_o he_o receive_v a_o spirit_n of_o faith_n by_o which_o he_o be_v as_o by_o a_o new_a heavenly_a form_n in_o some_o manner_n quicken_v five_o the_o papist_n doctrine_n be_v here_o very_o defective_a and_o false_a in_o part_n defective_a for_o they_o speak_v nothing_o of_o preparatory_a course_n by_o which_o god_n do_v bring_v we_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o by_o faith_n but_o of_o such_o like_a operation_n by_o which_o god_n prepare_v we_o and_o we_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o be_v justify_v now_o we_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o justification_n when_o the_o spirit_n do_v without_o any_o habit_n of_o grace_n lift_v we_o up_o to_o supernatural_a act_n of_o belief_n hope_v in_o god_n love_n sorrow_n for_o sin_n and_o fear_v of_o hell_n in_o which_o many_o thing_n be_v erroneous_a as_o first_o that_o they_o make_v we_o lift_v up_o to_o act_n of_o this_o nature_n without_o habit_n which_o be_v to_o make_v a_o blind_a man_n see_v without_o give_v his_o eye_n new_a sight_n to_o make_v we_o bring_v good_a fruit_n while_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o make_v good_a tree_n to_o make_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o our_o faith_n come_v into_o grace_n by_o our_o faith_n stand_v in_o grace_n by_o another_o the_o school_n not_o understand_v the_o doctrine_n of_o preparation_n consider_v of_o it_o philosophical_o as_o a_o thing_n between_o nature_n and_o grace_n now_o between_o the_o thing_n we_o work_v out_o of_o natural_a strength_n and_o those_o we_o do_v meritorious_o from_o grace_n now_o infuse_v into_o we_o and_o inherent_a in_o we_o they_o devise_v a_o three_o kind_n of_o work_n which_o neither_o come_v from_o any_o power_n of_o we_o mere_o nor_o yet_o from_o any_o supernatural_a grace_n inherent_a in_o we_o and_o these_o be_v work_n do_v by_o eternal_a aid_n of_o the_o spirit_n whereas_o all_o the_o scripture_n make_v that_o faith_n which_o be_v require_v to_o justification_n to_o be_v the_o same_o with_o that_o which_o work_v by_o love_n to_o be_v a_o faith_n full_o form_v come_v from_o a_o spirit_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v a_o habitual_a guilt_n wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n to_o be_v a_o faith_n believe_v on_o god_n which_o the_o best_a pillar_n of_o popish_a learning_n confess_v to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o form_a faith_n beside_o they_o err_v when_o they_o make_v fear_n of_o hell_n a_o thing_n immediate_o dispose_v to_o justification_n when_o the_o work_n of_o this_o be_v to_o move_v we_o to_o seek_v out_o of_o ourselves_o after_o some_o word_n of_o faith_n and_o this_o be_v cast_v forth_o proportionable_o as_o faith_n and_o love_n enter_v it_o may_v prepare_v to_o our_o conversion_n not_o to_o our_o justification_n immediate_o again_o when_o they_o make_v love_v actual_a to_o go_v before_o justification_n whereas_o love_n do_v follow_v for_o we_o love_v because_o we_o have_v find_v love_n first_o now_o no_o love_n be_v feel_v from_o god_n till_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o acceptance_n to_o life_n in_o some_o measure_n be_v feel_v &_o perceive_v shall_v god_n lift_v we_o up_o to_o love_v he_o before_o his_o justification_n he_o shall_v by_o make_v we_o love_v he_o prepare_v we_o to_o be_v love_v of_o he_o she_o love_v much_o because_o much_o be_v forgive_v she_o in_o a_o word_n set_v aside_o the_o act_n of_o a_o true_a faith_n come_v from_o a_o inward_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n incline_v the_o heart_n to_o believe_v there_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n prepare_v to_o justification_n immediate_o where_o this_o be_v there_o together_o in_o time_n justification_n be_v receive_v there_o the_o spirit_n of_o love_n and_o hope_n be_v not_o want_v he_o who_o believe_v be_v pass_v from_o death_n to_o life_n nevertheless_o we_o do_v long_o after_o not_o feel_v ourselves_o justify_v nor_o perceive_v grace_n to_o dwell_v in_o we_o so_o full_o and_o manifest_o as_o we_o desire_v hence_o it_o be_v that_o sometime_o we_o be_v in_o fear_n sometime_o believe_v hope_v sometime_o we_o be_v in_o repentant_a sorrow_n and_o by_o these_o we_o be_v lead_v both_o to_o the_o manifest_a perceive_v of_o that_o which_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o and_o to_o the_o more_o full_a measure_n of_o peace_n and_o grace_n which_o we_o much_o desire_v the_o second_o question_n then_o in_o what_o order_n god_n power_n do_v bring_v we_o to_o believe_v be_v thus_o answer_v that_o most_o common_o he_o do_v in_o some_o kind_n change_v we_o and_o make_v we_o more_o fit_a that_o so_o his_o word_n may_v be_v reveal_v in_o we_o which_o accompany_v with_o his_o mighty_a power_n do_v bring_v forth_o that_o supernatural_a habit_n of_o faith_n by_o which_o he_o do_v incline_v we_o to_o move_v unto_o he_o now_o for_o the_o three_o thing_n whether_o this_o help_n do_v leave_v the_o will_n at_o liberty_n actual_o to_o resist_v it_o yea_o or_o no_o the_o answer_n be_v it_o do_v not_o that_o which_o the_o omnipotency_n of_o god_n be_v put_v forth_o to_o work_v in_o the_o creature_n that_o the_o creature_n can_v resist_v but_o god_n put_v forth_o his_o omnipotency_n and_o by_o the_o effectual_a work_n of_o it_o he_o may_v bring_v we_o to_o believe_v the_o first_o part_n be_v not_o deny_v the_o second_o be_v here_o plain_o set_v down_o viz._n that_o god_n do_v bring_v we_o to_o belief_n by_o the_o effectual_a work_n of_o no_o less_o power_n then_o that_o which_o raise_v christ_n from_o the_o dead_a that_o which_o make_v god_n aid_n and_o grace_n put_v under_o the_o power_n of_o man_n and_o not_o man_n will_n to_o be_v under_o it_o that_o be_v a_o pelagian_n heresy_n but_o to_o say_v that_o notwithstanding_o god_n help_a grace_n man_n may_v resist_v be_v to_o put_v grace_n in_o man_n power_n not_o to_o put_v
