grave_n so_o as_o he_o begin_v to_o rot_v and_o to_o stink_n yet_o when_o our_o saviour_n christ_n cry_v with_o a_o loud_a voice_n lazarus_n 11._o io._n 11._o come_v forth_o he_o arise_v incontinent_o and_o come_v and_o stand_v forth_o this_o be_v our_o case_n and_o condition_n yea_o the_o estate_n and_o condition_n of_o every_o soul_n in_o the_o world_n we_o be_v stark_o dead_a in_o trespass_n and_o sin_n nay_o we_o lie_v rot_v and_o putrify_v in_o the_o grave_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o until_o jesus_n christ_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o loud_a voice_n of_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v the_o word_n of_o life_n shall_v breathe_v within_o we_o the_o breath_n of_o life_n and_o revive_v we_o poor_a soul_n we_o can_v move_v so_o much_o as_o one_o little_a finger_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n this_o may_v serve_v in_o the_o first_o place_n to_o confute_v that_o erroneous_a use_n 1_o doctrine_n of_o the_o papist_n who_o say_v that_o a_o man_n have_v natural_o freewill_n in_o himself_o by_o virtue_n whereof_o he_o can_v dispose_v himself_o to_o the_o work_n of_o his_o regeneration_n will._n condemn_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o papist_n touch_v free_a will._n who_o opinion_n if_o it_o be_v grant_v then_o be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n less_o see_v in_o our_o second_o birth_n then_o in_o our_o first_o birth_n which_o be_v injurious_a to_o the_o motion_n unless_o some_o spiritual_a life_n be_v put_v into_o he_o but_o what_o say_v the_o adversary_n he_o may_v give_v his_o consent_n to_o his_o quicken_n though_o he_o quicken_v not_o himself_o but_o say_v i_o what_o consent_n call_v we_o the_o consent_n of_o a_o man_n that_o be_v dead_a but_o not_o to_o stand_v upon_o their_o presumptuous_a doctrine_n of_o free_a will_n the_o which_o among_o many_o other_o point_n of_o popery_n maintain_v by_o they_o have_v lift_v up_o many_o so_o high_a among_o they_o with_o this_o vain_a opinion_n of_o their_o own_o worthiness_n that_o they_o find_v not_o themselves_o to_o stand_v in_o need_n for_o the_o lord_n to_o lift_v they_o up_o then_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n let_v every_o man_n and_o woman_n use_v 2_o and_o every_o mother_n child_n labour_v to_o see_v our_o misery_n to_o see_v our_o poor_a soul_n how_o they_o lie_v rot_v in_o sin_n &_o let_v we_o spirit_n serve_v to_o humble_v we_o in_o that_o we_o be_v dead_a till_o the_o lord_n quicken_v we_o by_o his_o spirit_n see_v we_o be_v as_o the_o poor_a fly_n in_o winter_n stark_o dead_a not_o able_a to_o move_v our_o little_a finger_n to_o heaven_n pray_v unto_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o will_v cause_v the_o bless_a sunshine_n of_o his_o word_n and_o gospel_n to_o shine_v upon_o we_o to_o warm_v our_o cold_a and_o benumb_v soul_n to_o quicken_v our_o dead_a conscience_n by_o the_o word_n of_o life_n and_o the_o bless_a work_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n for_o so_o long_o as_o god_n do_v not_o quicken_v we_o nor_o revive_v we_o alas_o our_o soul_n be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o this_o death_n be_v the_o next_o step_n unto_o eternal_a death_n in_o the_o fire_n of_o hell_n and_o therefore_o their_o case_n be_v dangerous_a and_o miserable_a which_o all_o of_o his_o own_o worthiness_n though_o they_o have_v never_o so_o many_o excellent_a part_n of_o nature_n as_o wit_n capacity_n strength_n beauty_n or_o outward_a gift_n as_o riches_n honour_n authority_n etc._n etc._n yet_o sure_o man_n may_v see_v that_o if_o
of_o god_n wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n alone_o as_o be_v pour_v into_o the_o breast_n of_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n it_o will_v purge_v from_o sin_n and_o dead_a work_n it_o will_v quicken_v our_o dead_a &_o benumb_a soul_n it_o will_v work_v the_o mortification_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o enable_v we_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o to_o obey_v the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n and_o last_o that_o this_o knowledge_n be_v durable_a and_o permanent_a not_o only_o for_o this_o life_n but_o also_o for_o the_o life_n to_o come_v oh_o let_v we_o then_o every_o one_o of_o we_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n try_v &_o examine_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o have_v in_o we_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n yea_o or_o nay_o if_o we_o find_v the_o same_o to_o be_v in_o we_o by_o the_o note_n and_o property_n of_o it_o as_o abovesaid_a we_o be_v then_o bless_v and_o happy_a we_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n to_o eternal_a life_n nay_o this_o bless_a knowledge_n will_v put_v we_o into_o real_a possession_n of_o eternal_a life_n and_o the_o salvation_n of_o our_o poor_a soul_n but_o do_v thou_o never_o find_v this_o bless_a knowledge_n as_o yet_o in_o thy_o heart_n but_o in_o stead_n thereof_o thy_o mind_n full_a of_o ignorance_n thy_o will_n froward_a and_o rebellious_a thy_o affection_n love_v and_o delight_v in_o sin_n and_o uncleanness_n at_o our_o door_n and_o yet_o man_n shall_v most_o ungrateful_o contemn_v this_o knowledge_n and_o refuse_v instruction_n and_o trample_v this_o precious_a pearl_n under_o foot_n sure_o these_o man_n and_o woman_n be_v they_o what_o they_o will_v be_v they_o do_v voluntary_o strip_v themselves_o of_o eternal_a life_n nay_o like_o blind_a bayard_n they_o run_v their_o poor_a soul_n into_o the_o pit_n of_o hell_n before_o they_o be_v aware_a and_o therefore_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n if_o we_o never_o have_v this_o knowledge_n of_o god_n as_o yet_o now_o let_v we_o labour_v for_o it_o if_o we_o have_v it_o then_o let_v we_o labour_v that_o it_o may_v become_v effectual_a unto_o we_o to_o purge_v we_o to_o quicken_v we_o to_o change_v we_o that_o it_o be_v not_o idle_a and_o naked_a and_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o thing_n all_o which_o be_v commendable_a in_o themselves_o but_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o must_v know_v and_o which_o be_v the_o object_n of_o this_o heavenly_a and_o we_o can_v say_v in_o truth_n of_o heart_n note_n note_n i_o believe_v and_o know_v that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v not_o only_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n but_o my_o saviour_n not_o only_o that_o he_o die_v for_o they_o which_o believe_v in_o he_o but_o that_o he_o die_v for_o i_o and_o shed_v his_o blood_n to_o save_v my_o soul_n and_o though_o this_o be_v true_a that_o though_o but_o one_o man_n or_o woman_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n shall_v be_v save_v yet_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v this_o certain_a knowledge_n to_o believe_v i_o be_o the_o man_n i_o be_o the_o woman_n and_o they_o which_o have_v this_o certain_a and_o unfalilble_a knowledge_n they_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o they_o which_o have_v only_o a_o general_n and_o confuse_a knowledge_n swim_v in_o the_o brain_n alas_o they_o abide_v in_o death_n the_o three_o special_a thing_n which_o we_o must_v know_v be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n us._n how_o god_n the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v to_o be_v know_v of_o us._n when_o as_o we_o can_v find_v and_o feel_v the_o work_n of_o god_n spirit_n within_o we_o when_o we_o acknowledge_v he_o to_o be_v the_o author_n and_o sole_a worker_n of_o this_o knowledge_n when_o we_o can_v know_v by_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o self_n in_o our_o soul_n and_o conscience_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v in_o we_o 13.5_o
