and_o to_o vex_v they_o for_o they_o second_o as_o this_o spare_n be_v observable_a as_o to_o matter_n of_o inquiry_n so_o also_o as_o to_o matter_n of_o resistance_n and_o opposition_n they_o be_v very_o spare_v in_o this_o likewise_o they_o do_v as_o little_a as_o may_v be_v to_o restrain_v and_o hinder_v sin_n in_o the_o onset_n of_o it_o take_v a_o godly_a man_n and_o one_o who_o heart_n destroy_v they_o not_o for_o there_o be_v some_o sweetness_n to_o be_v find_v in_o they_o thus_o he_o be_v say_v to_o spare_v it_o which_o be_v the_o first_o expression_n which_o be_v here_o considerable_a second_o he_o do_v not_o forsake_v it_o he_o do_v not_o leave_v it_o nor_o bid_v adieu_n unto_o it_o he_o never_o forsake_v his_o sin_n till_o his_o sin_n forsake_v he_o and_o he_o sin_n for_o the_o general_n that_o be_v which_o be_v not_o convert_v and_o regulate_v and_o bring_v home_o to_o god_n as_o for_o another_o man_n let_v his_o condition_n be_v what_o it_o will_v be_v yet_o his_o corruption_n be_v still_o the_o same_o he_o be_v prodigal_a in_o a_o poor_a estate_n and_o he_o be_v proud_a in_o a_o low_a estate_n and_o he_o be_v lascivious_a in_o a_o decrepit_a estate_n when_o his_o body_n wither_v yet_o his_o lust_n flourish_n and_o he_o never_o forsake_v his_o sin_n till_o he_o forsake_v himself_o and_o have_v any_o be_v continue_v to_o he_o now_o to_o lay_v both_o these_o together_o a_o sinner_n not_o forsake_v but_o rather_o spare_v sin_n in_o himself_o as_o we_o have_v hitherto_o hear_v and_o consider_v how_o much_o it_o make_v to_o the_o aggravation_n of_o his_o sinful_a condition_n and_o misery_n likewise_o attend_v thereupon_o there_o be_v no_o great_a mischief_n or_o cruelty_n which_o a_o

in_o this_o particular_a business_n while_o god_n himself_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o we_o there_o be_v no_o witness_n which_o can_v come_v in_o against_o we_o of_o any_o worth_n or_o validity_n which_o child_n of_o god_n in_o all_o their_o spiritual_a assault_n and_o temptation_n which_o they_o be_v subject_a unto_o that_o what_o ever_o may_v endeavour_v to_o disturb_v they_o yet_o nothing_o shall_v have_v power_n over_o they_o or_o prevail_v to_o a_o absolute_a trouble_n or_o molestation_n of_o they_o a_o child_n of_o god_n may_v set_v that_o peace_n and_o comfort_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o heart_n and_o conscience_n against_o all_o the_o solicitation_n and_o disquieting_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n beside_o when_o he_o give_v quietness_n who_o then_o can_v make_v trouble_n as_o against_o a_o nation_n so_o against_o a_o man_n only_o and_o so_o much_o may_v suffice_v of_o the_o first_o branch_n of_o the_o proposition_n in_o this_o second_o reference_n in_o matter_n of_o peace_n i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o second_o in_o matter_n of_o trouble_n and_o when_o he_o hide_v his_o face_n who_o then_o can_v behold_v he_o who_o can_v behold_v he_o that_o be_v who_o can_v behold_v he_o comfortable_o so_o as_o to_o have_v any_o sweetness_n or_o refreshment_n from_o he_o this_o no_o man_n can_v have_v when_o god_n will_v hide_v his_o face_n thou_o hide_v thy_o face_n a_o eclipse_n as_o well_o as_o the_o darkness_n of_o a_o night_n and_o there_o be_v a_o sadness_n from_o the_o want_n of_o god_n smile_n as_o well_o as_o from_o the_o make_n of_o his_o frown_n and_o the_o knit_n of_o his_o brow_n against_o we_o and_o this_o former_a be_v that_o which_o we_o now_o speak_v unto_o as_o a_o matter_n of_o disquiet_n we_o shall_v find_v how_o it_o be_v thus_o to_o the_o spouse_n in_o the_o canticle_n when_o her_o belove_a be_v go_v from_o she_o which_o be_v a_o parable_n to_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o the_o condition_n of_o christian_a in_o this_o particular_a the_o case_n be_v ill_a with_o he_o when_o god_n do_v but_o hide_v his_o face_n from_o he_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o darkness_n and_o deadness_n upon_o his_o soul_n in_o such_o a_o estate_n as_o upon_o the_o earth_n when_o the_o sun_n be_v eclipse_v and_o it_o be_v that_o which_o every_o good_a heart_n will_v be_v easy_o sensible_a and_o apprehensive_a of_o as_o the_o child_n do_v not_o only_o cry_v when_o the_o nurse_n or_o mother_n strike_v it_o but_o as_o well_o when_o she_o hide_v herself_o from_o it_o even_o so_o be_v it_o with_o a_o child_n of_o god_n in_o this_o particular_a he_o do_v not_o mourn_v only_o under_o terror_n of_o conscience_n and_o the_o immediate_a expression_n of_o god_n anger_n but_o as_o well_o under_o deadness_n of_o spirit_n and_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o sense_n of_o god_n favour_n when_o there_o be_v not_o that_o sweet_a intercourse_n and_o familiarity_n betwixt_o god_n and_o his_o heart_n as_o there_o have_v be_v in_o former_a time_n thus_o it_o be_v with_o the_o prophet_n david_n psal_n 51.12_o he_o be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o bare_a salvation_n but_o he_o call_v for_o the_o joy_n of_o salvation_n and_o he_o be_v not_o not_o feed_v those_o also_o which_o be_v i_o and_o which_o belong_v unto_o i_o thus_o shall_v we_o argue_v in_o these_o case_n and_o consider_v that_o this_o carp_n and_o care_v as_o it_o be_v offensive_a in_o other_o consideration_n so_o it_o do_v also_o in_o particular_a trespass_n upon_o our_o experience_n of_o god_n goodness_n to_o we_o in_o our_o infancy_n and_o tender_a estate_n nurse_n of_o child_n as_o parent_n where_o there_o be_v a_o concurrence_n of_o other_o qualification_n and_o no_o special_a hindrance_n and_o impediment_n that_o just_o lie_v in_o the_o way_n as_o a_o obstruction_n thereunto_o which_o must_v always_o in_o such_o case_n be_v except_v she_o that_o be_v the_o child_n mother_n be_v the_o fit_a to_o be_v the_o child_n nurse_n it_o be_v most_o suitable_a in_o this_o place_n he_o do_v intimate_v it_o as_o a_o blessing_n to_o be_v remember_v that_o she_o that_o bear_v he_o nurse_v he_o and_o that_o as_o god_n preserve_v he_o upon_o the_o breast_n so_o especial_o upon_o the_o breast_n of_o his_o mother_n this_o be_v therefore_o by_o the_o way_n a_o good_a item_n and_o admonition_n which_o be_v here_o suggest_v unto_o we_o as_o concern_v parent_n state_n in_o grace_n here_o the_o comfort_n of_o god_n do_v relieve_v they_o by_o clear_v their_o evidence_n to_o they_o by_o shine_v upon_o his_o own_o grace_n in_o they_o and_o by_o testify_v to_o their_o spirit_n by_o his_o spirit_n that_o they_o be_v his_o child_n and_o this_o be_v more_o than_o can_v be_v say_v to_o the_o contrary_a against_o they_o the_o comfort_n of_o god_n be_v great_a way_n or_o that_o then_o do_v he_o sweet_o satisfy_v we_o and_o compose_v we_o and_o bring_v we_o in_o frame_n again_o by_o manifest_v to_o we_o his_o own_o love_n and_o affection_n towards_o his_o church_n his_o power_n and_o ability_n to_o save_v it_o and_o his_o readiness_n to_o work_v all_o thing_n to_o the_o good_a and_o comfort_n of_o it_o thus_o in_o all_o these_o several_a particular_n when_o god_n people_n have_v be_v at_o a_o great_a stand_n and_o have_v not_o know_v what_o to_o conceive_v or_o imagine_v then_o have_v the_o comfort_n of_o god_n come_v in_o most_o miraculous_o upon_o they_o all_o this_o tend_v to_o this_o purpose_n but_o so_o much_o the_o more_o still_o to_o strengthen_v our_o faith_n and_o to_o keep_v we_o from_o all_o dispondency_n and_o discouragement_n he_o spy_v and_o discern_v this_o weakness_n and_o infirmity_n in_o himself_o while_o he_o say_v it_o it_o be_v evident_a he_o spy_v it_o he_o discover_v it_o and_o find_v it_o out_o this_o be_v one_o thing_n which_o be_v observable_a and_o commendable_a in_o he_o it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o spiritual_a strength_n to_o be_v sensible_a and_o apprehensive_a of_o weakness_n and_o take_v notice_n of_o spiritual_a infirmity_n and_o thus_o do_v david_n here_o as_o for_o wicked_a and_o carnal_a man_n there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o blindness_n and_o ignorance_n upon_o they_o from_o whence_o have_v also_o all_o other_o beside_o so_o that_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n which_o be_v here_o observable_a of_o we_o first_o here_o be_v a_o enlargement_n of_o personal_a conversion_n to_o fraternal_a confirmation_n he_o that_o be_v convert_v himself_o he_o must_v withal_o strengthen_v his_o brethren_n second_o here_o be_v a_o confinement_n of_o fraternal_a confirmation_n to_o say_v here_o be_v a_o enlargement_n of_o personal_a conversion_n to_o fraternal_a or_o brotherly_a confirmation_n he_o that_o be_v convert_v himself_o he_o must_v strengthen_v his_o brethren_n he_o that_o have_v partake_v of_o god_n grace_n in_o his_o own_o recovery_n from_o temptation_n and_o the_o consequent_n of_o it_o he_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v to_o be_v useful_a and_o helpful_a to_o other_o who_o he_o converse_v withal_o to_o this_o purpose_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v here_o before_o we_o in_o this_o expression_n when_o thou_o be_v the_o course_n and_o way_n which_o shall_v be_v take_v for_o it_o they_o shall_v be_v convert_v so_o far_o as_o i_o can_v help_v it_o and_o can_v any_o way_n further_o their_o conversion_n which_o i_o will_v be_v no_o way_n defective_a in_o thus_o do_v david_n in_o his_o present_a condition_n and_o so_o shall_v other_o do_v likewise_o as_o they_o see_v any_o stand_n in_o need_n of_o assistance_n the_o rest_n the_o eye_n it_o do_v not_o see_v for_o itself_o but_o for_o the_o whole_a body_n and_o the_o ear_n it_o do_v not_o hear_v for_o itself_o but_o for_o the_o whole_a body_n whatever_o here_o express_v as_o a_o duty_n which_o lie_v upon_o we_o and_o which_o according_o we_o shall_v make_v conscience_n to_o perform_v when_o thou_o be_v convert_v strengthen_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v a_o duty_n which_o belong_v to_o all_o christian_n in_o their_o place_n whosoever_o they_o be_v not_o minister_n only_o but_o other_o indeed_o it_o concern_v minister_n more_o especial_o by_o office_n to_o do_v it_o ministerial_o but_o it_o do_v likewise_o concern_v other_o man_n which_o be_v private_a christian_n in_o the_o communion_n of_o saint_n as_o that_o which_o do_v much_o belong_v thereunto_o it_o be_v that_o which_o god_n have_v in_o some_o sort_n fit_v every_o one_o for_o and_o therefore_o shall_v every_o one_o do_v and_o be_v quicken_v and_o provoke_v to_o do_v it_o there_o be_v no_o true_a christian_a whatsoever_o but_o as_o through_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n he_o be_v make_v to_o be_v good_a himself_o so_o also_o by_o the_o same_o grace_n he_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v yet_o have_v never_o a_o word_n either_o of_o revive_v or_o strengthen_v for_o they_o how_o little_a do_v such_o as_o these_o conform_v themselves_o to_o this_o counsel_n and_o command_v of_o christ_n but_o second_o as_o we_o have_v our_o duty_n here_o express_v as_o concern_v the_o active_a part_n of_o this_o performance_n so_o we_o have_v also_o our_o duty_n employ_v as_o concern_v the_o passive_a part_n of_o it_o likewise_o and_o as_o those_o who_o be_v themselves_o convert_v must_v be_v careful_a to_o strengthen_v their_o brethren_n so_o those_o also_o which_o be_v their_o brethren_n must_v be_v willing_a to_o be_v strengthen_v by_o they_o this_o it_o meet_v with_o another_o distemper_n which_o man_n nature_n be_v subject_a unto_o there_o be_v many_o who_o be_v ready_a to_o fall_v and_o refuse_v to_o be_v strengthen_v and_o there_o be_v other_o who_o be_v ready_a to_o sink_v and_o refuse_v to_o be_v comfort_v now_o such_o as_o these_o be_v to_o be_v here_o mind_v of_o their_o duty_n and_o especial_o strong_a christian_n in_o regard_n of_o weak_a one_o not_o to_o refuse_v and_o disdain_v either_o counsel_n or_o comfort_n from_o they_o what_o think_v such_o a_o man_n shall_v i_o receive_v comfort_n and_o help_v from_o he_o who_o be_v so_o far_o inferior_a to_o i_o both_o in_o ability_n and_o also_o in_o condition_n yes_o even_o from_o he_o though_o a_o state_n of_o decline_v and_o of_o spiritual_a distemper_n the_o reason_n of_o it_o be_v this_o because_o person_n in_o such_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v devoid_a of_o those_o grace_n which_o be_v requisite_a to_o such_o a_o performance_n those_o that_o will_v strengthen_v and_o comfort_v other_o they_o must_v have_v some_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o a_o work_n of_o grace_n upon_o their_o own_o with_o they_o they_o have_v seldom_o any_o rest_n in_o themselves_o and_o as_o to_o man_n so_o also_o to_o god_n and_o to_o he_o more_o especial_o especial_o then_o also_o when_o he_o shall_v charge_v they_o and_o set_v they_o home_o upon_o the_o soul_n than_o they_o will_v be_v trouble_v some_o indeed_o but_o now_o on_o the_o other_o side_n when_o a_o man_n be_v useful_a and_o fruitful_a and_o conscionable_a in_o the_o do_n of_o good_a god_n do_v usual_o recompense_v and_o reward_v he_o with_o peace_n of_o conscience_n suitable_a thereto_o and_o thus_o have_v we_o see_v why_o and_o for_o subject_v and_o radicate_v in_o we_o or_o else_o second_o in_o his_o motion_n and_o suggestion_n as_o object_v and_o propound_v to_o we_o either_o of_o these_o do_v imply_v the_o spirit_n first_o in_o his_o grace_n and_o principle_n as_o subject_v and_o radicate_v in_o we_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n i.e._n walk_v after_o a_o spiritual_a manner_n and_o this_o again_o be_v do_v two_o manner_n of_o way_n first_o when_o we_o be_v frequent_a and_o conversant_a in_o spiritual_a duty_n when_o we_o be_v much_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o religion_n which_o be_v the_o current_n and_o conveyance_n of_o the_o spirit_n then_o we_o may_v be_v say_v in_o one_o sense_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v here_o require_v of_o we_o those_o which_o profess_v themselves_o christians_o they_o must_v be_v much_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o christianity_n as_o pray_v read_v hear_v communion_n of_o saint_n etc._n etc._n these_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o they_o must_v apply_v themselves_o to_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o diligence_n and_o endeavour_n it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v other_o thing_n also_o to_o be_v do_v in_o reference_n to_o humane_a life_n and_o conversation_n here_o in_o the_o world_n as_o the_o work_n of_o our_o ordinary_a calling_n and_o employment_n which_o belong_v unto_o we_o these_o they_o be_v not_o to_o be_v neglect_v but_o we_o must_v be_v also_o mindful_a of_o other_o and_o apply_v ourselves_o to_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o even_o the_o exercise_n of_o piety_n and_o religion_n and_o that_o especial_o upon_o this_o consideration_n as_o be_v such_o action_n wherein_o we_o have_v special_a communion_n with_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o wherein_o he_o take_v occasion_n to_o communicate_v himself_o unto_o we_o these_o they_o be_v the_o pleasant_a walk_n of_o the_o spirit_n as_o i_o may_v so_o call_v they_o the_o green_a pasture_n in_o which_o he_o make_v we_o to_o lie_v down_o and_o the_o still_a water_n beside_o which_o he_o lead_v wherein_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v glid_a into_o we_o second_o when_o we_o be_v daily_o and_o continual_o in_o a_o spiritual_a frame_n and_o temper_n of_o heart_n this_o in_o another_o sense_n be_v to_o walk_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o seem_v also_o to_o be_v lay_v upon_o we_o in_o this_o present_a expression_n in_o the_o text._n we_o may_v not_o judge_n of_o our_o walk_n in_o the_o
