but_o for_o you_o that_o value_v it_o and_o seek_v it_o your_o day_n of_o grace_n can_v be_v over_o for_o it_o be_v from_o common_a grace_n at_o least_o which_o have_v a_o tendency_n to_o special_a and_o show_v your_o case_n not_o to_o be_v like_o those_o who_o be_v give_v up_o of_o god_n but_o with_o most_o that_o thus_o complain_v there_o be_v more_o than_o common_a grace_n there_o be_v fruit_n of_o special_a grace_n visible_a you_o do_v unfeigned_o repent_v and_o mourn_v for_o sin_n and_o desire_v to_o give_v up_o yourselves_o to_o christ_n now_o what_o but_o grace_n have_v make_v you_o to_o see_v the_o evil_n of_o sin_n and_o hate_v it_o what_o but_o grace_n have_v make_v you_o willing_a to_o accept_v of_o christ_n for_o your_o lord_n and_o saviour_n what_o but_o grace_n have_v make_v you_o value_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o a_o holy_a heart_n and_o life_n above_o all_o the_o world_n how_o be_v it_o that_o you_o be_v bring_v to_o love_n god_n and_o delight_n in_o he_o to_o seek_v after_o he_o and_o desire_v to_o please_v he_o and_o to_o be_v trouble_v that_o you_o can_v do_v so_o no_o more_o no_o better_o for_o such_o as_o you_o to_o say_v your_o day_n of_o grace_n be_v over_o be_v as_o absurd_a as_o one_o express_v it_o as_o for_o a_o man_n to_o come_v into_o our_o assembly_n and_o hear_v the_o sermon_n and_o then_o go_v away_o lament_v that_o the_o sermon_n be_v do_v before_o he_o come_v you_o have_v receive_v that_o grace_n which_o you_o complain_v you_o want_v you_o know_v it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o many_o be_v you_o like_o they_o do_v you_o find_v your_o lust_n and_o passion_n lead_v you_o captive_a at_o their_o pleasure_n have_v you_o no_o affection_n stir_v after_o god_n and_o holiness_n do_v you_o despise_v christ_n and_o all_o regard_n and_o duty_n to_o he_o and_o can_v not_o persuade_v yourselves_o to_o hear_v or_o read_v or_o pray_v or_o think_v of_o another_o world_n or_o do_v any_o thing_n to_o provide_v for_o it_o you_o may_v then_o fear_v indeed_o what_o the_o issue_n of_o your_o case_n will_v be_v but_o that_o be_v not_o the_o case_n i_o be_o now_o speak_v of_o nor_o of_o any_o i_o hope_v that_o now_o hear_v i_o your_o appearance_n in_o these_o assembly_n be_v some_o sign_n of_o the_o contrary_a and_o though_o as_o yet_o you_o may_v be_v unconvert_v and_o unsanctified_a if_o you_o be_v so_o far_o awake_v as_o to_o look_v after_o reconciliation_n to_o god_n if_o you_o be_v touch_v with_o a_o sense_n of_o your_o sin_n and_o danger_n so_o as_o to_o desire_v to_o be_v assist_v and_o enable_v to_o repent_v and_o turn_v to_o the_o lord_n how_o bad_a soever_o your_o present_a case_n be_v it_o be_v not_o desperate_a and_o remediless_a for_o you_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o mercy_n and_o nothing_o but_o your_o own_o wilful_a impenitent_a refusal_n of_o mercy_n can_v deprive_v you_o of_o it_o vii_o as_o to_o the_o complaint_n of_o a_o hard_a heart_n remember_v it_o be_v the_o impenitent_a and_o the_o vnperswadable_a heart_n that_o be_v the_o only_a hard_a heart_n you_o need_v to_o fear_v they_o that_o be_v obstinate_a and_o disobedient_a intractable_a and_o incorrigible_a as_o the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v that_o neither_o regard_v the_o divine_a threaten_n or_o promise_n or_o mind_v his_o precept_n these_o be_v they_o that_o be_v under_o hardness_n of_o heart_n this_o be_v the_o judgement_n you_o ought_v to_o fear_v to_o be_v leave_v under_o such_o a_o temper_n but_o you_o find_v it_o otherwise_o with_o you_o that_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n do_v awe_n and_o command_v you_o your_o will_n be_v bow_v unto_o subjection_n to_o he_o you_o be_v willing_a to_o take_v upon_o you_o the_o yoke_n of_o christ_n or_o have_v take_v it_o and_o renounce_v all_o competitor_n you_o desire_v to_o choose_v christ_n for_o your_o lord_n and_o saviour_n and_o that_o god_n in_o christ_n shall_v be_v your_o ruler_n and_o your_o felicity_n if_o it_o be_v thus_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a you_o be_v not_o leave_v of_o god_n viii_o that_o sight_n of_o sin_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n which_o you_o complain_v of_o as_o the_o ground_n of_o your_o fear_n will_v argue_v the_o direct_a contrary_n to_o what_o you_o allege_v it_o for_o for_o sin_n have_v always_o the_o great_a strength_n where_o the_o sinner_n be_v the_o least_o apprehensive_a and_o sensible_a of_o it_o there_o be_v more_o hope_n of_o a_o sensible_a patient_n that_o feel_v his_o sickness_n and_o complain_v of_o it_o than_o of_o one_o that_o feel_v nothing_o but_o be_v confident_a all_o be_v well_o be_v not_o their_o case_n much_o worse_o who_o feel_v nothing_o of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n to_o who_o the_o power_n of_o it_o be_v not_o troublesome_a nor_o the_o pollution_n of_o it_o loathsome_a nor_o the_o gild_n of_o it_o butthenfom_n while_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o you_o you_o may_v be_v assure_v you_o be_v not_o give_v over_o and_o leave_v of_o god_n and_o your_o day_n of_o grace_n past_a it_o be_v yet_o day_n with_o you_o or_o else_o how_o come_v you_o by_o so_o much_o light_n to_o see_v the_o evil_n of_o sin_n more_o than_o former_o and_o to_o see_v so_o many_o thing_n to_o be_v sin_n which_o before_o you_o do_v not_o though_o there_o may_v and_o will_v be_v a_o conflict_n between_o flesh_n and_o
do_v not_o can_v not_o satisfy_v for_o they_o and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o forgive_v they_o if_o you_o repent_v and_o turn_v to_o god_n and_o believe_v on_o the_o name_n of_o his_o son_n you_o be_v condemn_v by_o the_o law_n christ_n come_v to_o save_v sinner_n and_o such_o as_o be_v lose_v and_o he_o require_v no_o worthiness_n or_o price_n in_o your_o hand_n but_o that_o you_o unfeigned_o consent_v to_o be_v his_o to_o accept_v a_o offer_a saviour_n and_o his_o salvation_n according_a to_o the_o end_n and_o use_v of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o he_o may_v illuminate_v and_o teach_v you_o sanctify_v and_o guide_v you_o govern_z and_o rule_v you_o by_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o your_o title_n to_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o consequent_o must_v be_v the_o evidence_n of_o your_o title_n and_o shall_v be_v a_o satisfactory_a one_o but_o if_o you_o be_v unwilling_a to_o forsake_v sin_n and_o return_v to_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n if_o you_o be_v unwilling_a to_o receive_v he_o as_o your_o teacher_n sanctifier_n saviour_n and_o lord_n you_o have_v reason_n to_o doubt_v your_o state_n indeed_o or_o rather_o the_o matter_n be_v past_a doubt_n you_o be_v unsanctified_a and_o as_o yet_o unreconciled_a to_o god_n whoever_o theresore_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o their_o former_a resistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n stifle_v conviction_n violate_v their_o good_a resolution_n etc._n etc._n do_v question_n their_o state_n whether_o god_n have_v not_o give_v they_o over_o yet_o let_v they_o consider_v they_o be_v now_o invite_v and_o entreat_v to_o put_v it_o out_o of_o question_n that_o their_o day_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o past_a by_o let_v this_o be_v their_o accept_v time_n the_o day_n of_o their_o salvation_n by_o now_o hearty_o accept_v a_o offer_a saviour_n and_o give_v up_o themselves_o unto_o he_o and_o then_o notwithstanding_o all_o your_o former_a refusal_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o grace_n if_o now_o at_o last_o you_o will_v return_v and_o submit_v and_o take_v his_o yoke_n upon_o you_o there_o be_v ease_n and_o rest_v and_o pardon_v and_o comfort_n and_o life_n eternal_a life_n to_o be_v have_v to_o conclude_v instead_o of_o doubt_v and_o complain_v and_o question_v any_o long_o reduce_v all_o that_o which_o be_v doubtful_a with_o you_o to_o that_o which_o be_v plain_a and_o certain_a it_o be_v certain_a that_o god_n have_v send_v his_o son_n into_o the_o world_n to_o save_v sinner_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o you_o be_v some_o of_o those_o lose_v miserable_a guilty_a creature_n that_o need_v this_o salvation_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o he_o have_v publish_v the_o glad_a tiding_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o such_o that_o whoever_o believe_v shall_v be_v save_v is_n be_v certain_a that_o god_n can_v lie_v it_o be_v therefore_o inconsistent_a with_o his_o nature_n that_o such_o as_o come_v to_o he_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o repentance_n towards_o god_n and_o faith_n in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n shall_v not_o be_v accept_v with_o he_o therefore_o dispute_n and_o question_n and_o complain_v no_o long_a how_o matter_n have_v be_v or_o how_o they_o be_v with_o you_o but_o come_v in_o upon_o the_o call_n and_o invitation_n of_o the_o gospel_n grace_n remember_v the_o covenant_n thou_o have_v make_v with_o god_n the_o father_n son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n in_o baptism_n resign_v yield_v and_o give_v up_o thyself_o with_o all_o thy_o heart_n and_o soul_n to_o be_v his_o resolve_v that_o thou_o will_v throw_v thyself_o into_o the_o arm_n of_o his_o love_n and_o mercy_n because_o it_o be_v the_o command_n of_o god_n that_o you_o believe_v on_o his_o son_n resolve_v that_o through_o his_o mercy_n and_o grace_n by_o the_o help_n of_o his_o spirit_n of_o grace_n you_o will_v now_o do_v so_o whatever_o come_v of_o it_o do_v not_o perplex_v yourselves_o about_o the_o question_n whether_o you_o do_v it_o not_o former_o four_o or_o five_o or_o ten_o year_n ago_o but_o do_v it_o again_o blessing_n god_n that_o you_o may_v now_o do_v it_o that_o he_o have_v not_o repeal_v his_o gospel_n and_o that_o he_o never_o will_v as_o believe_v on_o his_o name_n bless_a be_v god_n for_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n the_o four_o sermon_n psalm_n lxxxi_o 12._o so_o i_o give_v they_o up_o to_o their_o own_o heart_n luft_n and_o they_o walk_v in_o their_o own_o counsel_n i_o come_v now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n to_o consider_v the_o case_n of_o such_o who_o make_v dangerous_a approach_n towards_o such_o a_o judgement_n who_o have_v provoke_v god_n to_o that_o degree_n that_o it_o will_v be_v no_o wonder_n if_o he_o shall_v give_v they_o up_o yea_o concern_v who_o there_o be_v reason_n to_o fear_v it_o if_o speedy_a repentance_n do_v not_o prevent_v have_v therefore_o speak_v 1._o to_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o judgement_n and_o second_o consider_v the_o step_n and_o method_n whereby_o god_n do_v ordinary_o inflict_v it_o and_o three_o the_o dreadful_a severity_n of_o it_o in_o comparison_n of_o any_o other_o judgement_n in_o this_o world_n i_o proceed_v to_o the_o case_n of_o those_o who_o fear_v they_o be_v thus_o leave_v and_o give_v up_o by_o god_n several_a thing_n i_o name_v which_o they_o allege_v as_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o fear_n which_o yet_o will_v not_o prove_v that_o god_n have_v forsake_v they_o at_o the_o same_o time_n there_o be_v many_o other_o thing_n that_o will_v evidence_n the_o contrary_a it_o remain_v therefore_o that_o i_o may_v faithful_o give_v every_o one_o his_o portion_n comfort_n to_o who_o comfort_n and_o terror_n to_o who_o terror_n be_v due_a that_o i_o also_o speak_v to_o the_o case_n of_o such_o who_o gild_n may_v quick_o infer_v this_o terrible_a judgement_n or_o concern_v who_o we_o may_v fear_v whether_o they_o be_v not_o already_o under_o it_o or_o leave_v of_o god_n there_o be_v several_a thing_n with_o relation_n to_o this_o case_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v consider_v i._o the_o first_o dangerous_a symptom_n be_v security_n or_o a_o false_a ungrounded_a peace_n of_o conscience_n this_o be_v frequent_o the_o prologue_n and_o forerunner_n of_o judicial_a harden_v it_o be_v often_o a_o part_n of_o it_o and_o a_o evidence_n of_o it_o their_o case_n therefore_o be_v exceed_o dangerous_a with_o who_o conscience_n be_v a_o asleep_a or_o fear_v when_o that_o sin_n which_o former_o thy_o conscience_n will_v reprove_v thou_o for_o thou_o can_v now_o commit_v without_o remorse_n or_o difficulty_n when_o such_o or_o such_o a_o lust_n can_v be_v free_o indulge_v and_o thy_o heart_n not_o reproach_v thou_o thy_o conscience_n not_o fly_v in_o thy_o face_n or_o speak_v with_o any_o smartness_n and_o authority_n against_o it_o as_o former_o it_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v when_o the_o neglect_v of_o such_o or_o such_o duty_n be_v a_o daily_o trouble_v to_o thou_o heretofore_o but_o now_o thou_o can_v let_v they_o alone_o and_o thy_o conscience_n will_v let_v thou_o alone_o without_o rebuke_v thou_o or_o call_v thou_o to_o repentance_n as_o it_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v or_o if_o conscience_n do_v speak_v it_o be_v with_o much_o faintness_n without_o any_o such_o impression_n of_o fear_n and_o shame_n and_o sorrow_n as_o be_v wont_a to_o be_v produce_v by_o it_o this_o speak_v as_o if_o god_n have_v already_o give_v thou_o up_o in_o some_o degree_n or_o thou_o be_v very_o near_o what_o be_v worse_o in_o very_o great_a danger_n of_o this_o dreadful_a judgement_n this_o security_n and_o quiet_a notwithstanding_o the_o neglect_n of_o know_a duty_n and_o the_o commission_n of_o sin_n i_o grant_v have_v its_o degree_n there_o be_v some_o degree_n of_o it_o into_o which_o a_o good_a man_n through_o the_o prevalency_n of_o sin_n and_o temptation_n for_o a_o time_n may_v fall_v particular_o as_o to_o the_o duty_n of_o prayer_n and_o the_o spiritual_a performance_n of_o it_o but_o then_o such_o person_n suppose_v they_o upright_o in_o the_o main_a who_o be_v under_o such_o backslide_n be_v far_o from_o approve_v themselves_o in_o this_o case_n or_o from_o have_v any_o settle_a peace_n they_o have_v many_o a_o unpleasing_a thought_n about_o their_o own_o case_n many_o resolution_n of_o repentance_n that_o they_o may_v be_v recover_v they_o often_o say_v within_o themselves_o we_o will_v go_v and_o return_v to_o our_o first_o husband_n for_o than_o it_o be_v better_a with_o
he_o that_o be_v often_o reprove_v harden_v his_o heart_n shall_v sudden_o be_v destroy_v and_o that_o without_o remedy_n if_o man_n once_o come_v to_o this_o that_o under_o the_o most_o search_a lively_a sermon_n they_o can_v continue_v secure_a and_o wilful_a in_o know_a sin_n they_o may_v fear_v lest_o they_o be_v leave_v to_o go_v further_o even_o to_o the_o hate_v of_o godliness_n and_o good_a man_n or_o at_o least_o to_o be_v so_o far_o stupefy_v as_o not_o to_o feel_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o force_n of_o god_n terror_n or_o the_o sweetness_n of_o his_o promise_n but_o to_o make_v a_o jest_n of_o sin_n and_o think_v a_o life_n of_o godliness_n a_o needless_a thing_n such_o person_n when_o it_o come_v to_o this_o especial_o if_o they_o grow_v old_a in_o this_o course_n have_v cause_n to_o fear_v lest_o they_o be_v forsake_v of_o god_n and_o give_v over_o to_o their_o own_o heart_n lust_n seal_v up_o under_o judicial_a blindness_n and_o hardness_n of_o heart_n iii_o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n give_v over_o strive_v with_o the_o soul_n of_o men._n this_o be_v a_o most_o dangerous_a case_n for_o except_o he_o return_v they_o be_v irrecoverable_o lose_v there_o be_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o the_o influence_n of_o the_o divine_a spirit_n to_o the_o beginning_n progress_n and_o continuance_n of_o the_o spiritual_a life_n and_o there_o be_v no_o opposition_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o this_o spirit_n of_o life_n and_o power_n can_v overcome_v but_o when_o he_o give_v over_o strive_v with_o man_n how_o deplorable_a must_v their_o case_n be_v and_o this_o he_o do_v with_o many_o after_o they_o have_v resist_v the_o spirit_n and_o rebel_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o vex_v the_o holy_a spirit_n of_o god_n as_o we_o read_v of_o some_o that_o do_v act_v 7.51_o now_o if_o this_o bless_a spirit_n move_v not_o upon_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o backslider_n he_o can_v never_o be_v recover_v and_o when_o he_o have_v often_o be_v repulse_v and_o grieve_v and_o quench_v he_o may_v withdraw_v in_o anger_n and_o god_n may_v just_o resolve_v as_o concern_v the_o old_a world_n that_o his_o spirit_n shall_v strive_v no_o more_o no_o long_o with_o they_o especial_o when_o after_o a_o great_a profession_n of_o christianity_n man_n turn_v apostate_n and_o despise_v preach_v and_o the_o other_o institution_n of_o the_o gospel_n have_v do_v despite_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n heb._n 10.29_o which_o though_o speak_v of_o open_a final_a apostate_n shall_v make_v other_o that_o approach_v thereto_o to_o tremble_v and_o of_o how_o much_o soever_o punishment_n shall_v such_o be_v think_v guilty_a that_o do_v thus_o despite_v to_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n who_o bear_v witness_n to_o his_o person_n and_o doctrine_n who_o can_v tell_v the_o dreadfulness_n and_o horror_n of_o their_o punishment_n the_o constitution_n of_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n reach_v but_o to_o a_o temporal_a death_n without_o mercy_n but_o beside_o temporal_a judgement_n such_o a_o gild_n will_v expose_v they_o to_o eternal_a wrath_n for_o the_o great_a sin_n will_v have_v the_o great_a punishment_n no_o wonder_n then_o if_o the_o holy_a spirit_n strive_v no_o more_o with_o person_n that_o come_v under_o this_o tremendous_a gild_n that_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a spirit_n even_o as_o a_o spirit_n of_o grace_n do_v despite_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n who_o do_v invite_v and_o woo_v and_o draw_v they_o unto_o christ_n to_o bring_v they_o under_o the_o bond_n of_o the_o covenant_n my_o spirit_n shall_v not_o always_o strive_v with_o man_n gen._n 6.3_o heb._n 3.13_o luke_n 13_o 7._o when_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o love_n and_o benignity_n have_v shine_v in_o upon_o their_o mind_n and_o often_o touch_v their_o conscience_n and_o secret_o whisper_v sinner_n will_v thou_o not_o yet_o turn_v what_o have_v thou_o no_o inclination_n to_o return_v to_o i_o o_o do_v not_o go_v on_o and_o perish_v etc._n without_o the_o light_n and_o influence_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n it_o can_v have_v no_o save_a effect_n if_o our_o gospel_n be_v hide_v say_v our_o apostle_n it_o be_v hide_v to_o they_o that_o be_v lose_v 2_o cor._n 4.3_o who_o mind_n be_v blind_v by_o satan_n lest_o the_o light_n of_o the_o glorious_a gospel_n of_o christ_n shall_v shine_v into_o their_o heart_n though_o i_o must_v here_o add_v that_o no_o man_n i_o believe_v can_v determine_v what_o degree_n of_o this_o gild_n as_o to_o particular_a person_n do_v distinguish_v those_o who_o be_v irrecoverable_o lose_v from_o such_o as_o be_v recoverable_a and_o may_v be_v call_v to_o repentance_n iv_o though_o the_o spirit_n have_v not_o do_v strive_v yet_o when_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n though_o you_o can_v resist_v the_o light_n of_o divine_a truth_n but_o somewhat_o of_o it_o shine_v into_o the_o mind_n and_o conscience_n if_o yet_o your_o heart_n stand_v out_o and_o will_v not_o yield_v this_o be_v a_o dangerous_a case_n for_o man_n may_v be_v convince_v by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o sinfulness_n and_o danger_n of_o their_o condition_n they_o may_v come_v to_o determine_v and_o to_o pronounce_v judgement_n upon_o themselves_o that_o what_o god_n require_v of_o they_o be_v but_o just_a and_o equal_a and_o that_o hitherto_o they_o have_v not_o comply_v with_o his_o call_n one_o thing_n or_o other_o from_o day_n to_o day_n have_v hinder_v they_o from_o come_v up_o to_o the_o term_n of_o the_o gospel_n from_o a_o covenant_n closure_n with_o the_o son_n of_o god_n upon_o the_o gospel_n call_v they_o may_v say_v and_o own_o it_o before_o god_n and_o man_n that_o they_o be_v deep_o convince_v such_o a_o thing_n ought_v to_o be_v do_v but_o i_o have_v not_o yet_o find_v the_o time_n
