covenant_n with_o man_n that_o be_v impossible_a inconsistent_a with_o or_o incongruous_a to_o any_o of_o the_o divine_a perfection_n but_o high_o illustrate_v they_o all_o and_o become_v the_o majesty_n and_o glory_n of_o god_n as_o the_o king_n and_o ruler_n of_o his_o rational_a creature_n as_o to_o their_o eternal_a state_n thereby_o he_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o most_o excellent_a king_n not_o only_o in_o a_o just_a distribution_n of_o reward_n and_o punishment_n but_o in_o great_a goodness_n provide_v all_o thing_n requisite_a that_o may_v have_v make_v they_o all_o happy_a without_o make_v any_o one_o miserable_a but_o by_o their_o own_o particular_a fault_n thereby_o also_o his_o great_a wisdom_n be_v manifest_v design_v or_o do_v nothing_o in_o vain_a adam_n reach_v all_o his_o posterity_n but_o if_o they_o have_v consider_v that_o christ_n the_o second_o adam_n have_v supply_v and_o exceed_v the_o first_o adam_n whereby_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v lose_v but_o he_o that_o refuse_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o first_o motion_n of_o it_o whereby_o his_o natural_a conscience_n at_o least_o do_v witness_n to_o he_o that_o he_o be_v a_o sinner_n and_o thereby_o deserve_v to_o be_v exclude_v from_o god_n favour_n and_o yet_o that_o god_n be_v merciful_a and_o gracious_a to_o a_o repent_a sinner_n but_o that_o it_o can_v not_o consist_v with_o his_o holiness_n and_o purity_n to_o reconcile_v with_o a_o sinner_n cleave_v to_o his_o sin_n and_o that_o god_n will_v never_o suffer_v he_o to_o perish_v who_o upon_o such_o motion_n do_v not_o cleave_v to_o his_o sin_n it_o do_v not_o thence_o follow_v that_o this_o man_n by_o the_o power_n of_o nature_n can_v repent_v but_o it_o be_v sufficient_a to_o convince_v the_o peldgian_a that_o god_n will_v give_v he_o a_o new_a supernatural_a power_n to_o repent_v and_o believe_v all_o that_o the_o pelagian_a can_v reply_v be_v that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o a_o supernatural_a power_n and_o therefore_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n will_v not_o choose_v a_o superfluous_a way_n but_o will_v make_v use_n of_o the_o power_n of_o nature_n yet_o the_o scripture_n say_v express_o and_o inculcate_v that_o the_o natural_a man_n can_v understand_v spiritual_a thing_n that_o be_v by_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n for_o which_o god_n give_v no_o capacity_n to_o the_o first_o man_n by_o his_o creation_n and_o so_o none_o of_o his_o posterity_n can_v pretend_v it_o by_o those_o power_n communicate_v to_o mankind_n by_o creation_n and_o propagation_n pelagian_n do_v as_o high_o speak_v of_o grace_n as_o other_o but_o they_o mean_v by_o it_o only_o the_o power_n of_o nature_n 2._o there_o be_v a_o new_a mistake_v like_a to_o that_o of_o the_o pelagian_n take_v up_o by_o some_o of_o the_o protestant_a church_n in_o france_n and_o take_v with_o other_o which_o if_o it_o be_v follow_v will_v end_v in_o pelagianism_n but_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v yet_o so_o treat_v they_o do_v not_o suppose_v repentance_n and_o faith_n to_o be_v in_o the_o power_n of_o man_n but_o that_o they_o be_v give_v by_o god_n at_o the_o time_n of_o conversion_n yet_o not_o by_o any_o inward_a habit_n or_o power_n create_v by_o god_n and_o infuse_v into_o the_o will_n or_o soul_n of_o man_n but_o by_o the_o word_n and_o other_o mean_v of_o god_n prowidence_n as_o when_o god_n by_o correction_n lay_v low_o a_o man_n passion_n and_o lust_n which_o hinder_v he_o to_o give_v due_a attention_n to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o then_o by_o manage_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o bring_v such_o part_n of_o it_o to_o his_o thought_n as_o be_v fit_v for_o his_o capacity_n and_o circumstance_n so_o that_o he_o can_v resist_v it_o for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v call_v the_o sword_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o that_o it_o convert_v the_o soul_n and_o that_o the_o various_a expression_n in_o scripture_n line_n upon_o line_n and_o precept_n upon_o precept_n be_v contrive_v to_o take_v with_o several_a capacity_n and_o inclination_n and_o that_o man_n be_v a_o rational_a creature_n be_v always_o act_v by_o god_n rational_o but_o infuse_v habit_n will_v be_v a_o brute_n way_n the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n will_v take_v the_o most_o adapt_v way_n the_o holy_a act_n be_v do_v by_o act_n of_o reason_n and_o will_n infuse_v grace_n will_v lead_v to_o enthusiasm_n way_n for_o conversion_n contain_v not_o only_o supernatural_a light_n by_o revelation_n but_o revive_v and_o perfect_v natural_a light_n manifest_v the_o divine_a perfection_n the_o celestial_a glory_n the_o way_n to_o attain_v to_o it_o the_o beauty_n of_o holiness_n the_o deformity_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o dreadful_a consequence_n thereof_o and_o so_o lose_v the_o mind_n from_o that_o act_n of_o understanding_n precede_v the_o covenant_n itself_o be_v by_o act_n of_o the_o will._n the_o description_n of_o save_a faith_n by_o persuasion_n be_v but_o by_o a_o consequent_a which_o ought_v to_o be_v endeavour_v by_o all_o yet_o be_v not_o attain_v by_o all_o for_o many_o be_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o come_v not_o the_o length_n of_o persuasion_n that_o christ_n the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n be_v not_o in_o their_o own_o power_n nor_o can_v they_o exert_v it_o at_o any_o time_n they_o please_v even_o when_o they_o hear_v or_o meditate_v upon_o the_o word_n
