my_o heart_n be_v good_a my_o affection_n &_o desire_n within_o be_v better_o than_o my_o life_n without_o and_o what_o ever_o other_o judge_n of_o i_o i_o know_v my_o own_o heart_n &_o the_o heart_n be_v all_o that_o god_n desire_v and_o thus_o they_o fool_n themselves_o prov._n 28._o 26._o this_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a cause_n and_o ground_n of_o mistake_n among_o man_n that_o think_v best_o of_o themselves_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o put_v a_o difference_n between_o the_o good_a desire_n and_o strong_a affection_n that_o arise_v from_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ._n self-love_n will_v make_v a_o man_n seek_v his_o own_o good_a and_o safety_n hence_o it_o will_v pull_v a_o man_n out_o of_o his_o bed_n betimes_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o call_v he_o up_o to_o pray_v it_o will_v take_v he_o and_o carry_v he_o into_o his_o chamber_n towards_o evening_n and_o there_o private_o make_v he_o seek_v and_o pray_v and_o tug_v hard_a for_o pardon_n for_o christ_n for_o mercy_n lord_n evermore_o give_v we_o of_o this_o bread_n but_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n make_v a_o man_n desire_n christ_n and_o his_o honour_n for_o himself_o &_o all_o other_o thing_n for_o christ._n it_o be_v true_a the_o desire_n of_o son_n in_o christ_n by_o faith_n be_v accept_v ever_o but_o the_o desire_n of_o servant_n man_n that_o work_v only_o for_o their_o wage_n out_o of_o christ_n be_v not_o four_o in_o judge_v of_o god_n love_n to_o they_o by_o aim_v sometime_o at_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n be_v this_o possible_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v aim_v at_o god_n glory_n and_o yet_o perish_v 18._o yes_o and_o ordinary_a too_o a_o man_n may_v be_v liberal_a to_o the_o poor_a maintain_v the_o ministry_n be_v forward_o and_o stand_v for_o good_a thing_n whence_o he_o may_v not_o doubt_v but_o that_o god_n love_v he_o but_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n though_o a_o wicked_a man_n may_v make_v god_n glory_n in_o some_o particular_a thing_n his_o end_n yet_o he_o never_o divide_v it_o betwixt_o his_o master_n and_o himself_o and_o so_o may_v be_v but_o a_o knave_n as_o observant_a as_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v so_o a_o subtle_a heart_n yet_o a_o vile_a villainous_a heart_n may_v forsake_v all_o the_o world_n as_o judas_n do_v may_v bind_v himself_o apprentice_n to_o all_o the_o duty_n god_n require_v outward_o at_o his_o hand_n and_o so_o do_v good_a work_n but_o what_o be_v his_o last_o end_n it_o be_v that_o he_o may_v gain_v respect_n or_o place_n or_o that_o christ_n may_v have_v some_o part_n of_o the_o glory_n and_o he_o another_o simon_n magus_n will_v give_v any_o money_n sometime_o that_o he_o can_v pray_v so_o well_o know_v so_o much_o and_o do_v as_o other_o do_v and_o yet_o his_o last_o end_n be_v for_o himself_o but_o how_o can_v you_o believe_v if_o you_o seek_v not_o that_o glory_n that_o come_v from_o god_n say_v christ_n there_o be_v many_o seek_v the_o honour_n of_o christ_n but_o do_v you_o seek_v his_o honour_n only_o be_v it_o your_o last_o end_n where_o you_o rest_n and_o seek_v no_o more_o but_o that_o if_o thou_o will_v know_v whether_o thou_o make_v christ_n glory_n thy_o last_o end_n observe_v this_o rule_n if_o thou_o be_v more_o grieve_v for_o the_o eclipse_n of_o thy_o own_o honour_n and_o for_o thy_o own_o loss_n then_o for_o the_o loss_n of_o god_n honour_n it_o be_v a_o evident_a sign_n thou_o love_v it_o not_o desire_v it_o not_o as_o thy_o chief_a good_a as_o the_o last_o end_n for_o thy_o summum_fw-la bonum_fw-la and_o therefore_o do_v not_o seek_v god_n honour_n in_o the_o prime_n and_o chief_a place_n sin_n trouble_v paul_n more_o than_o all_o the_o plague_n and_o misery_n of_o the_o world_n indeed_o if_o thy_o name_n be_v dash_v with_o disgrace_n and_o thy_o will_n be_v cross_v thy_o heart_n be_v grieve_v and_o disquiet_v but_o the_o lord_n may_v lose_v his_o honour_n daily_o by_o thy_o own_o sin_n and_o those_o that_o be_v round_o about_o thou_o but_o not_o a_o tear_n not_o a_o sigh_n not_o a_o groan_n to_o behold_v such_o a_o spectacle_n as_o sure_o as_o the_o lord_n live_v thou_o seek_v not_o the_o lord_n name_n or_o honour_n as_o thy_o great_a good_a five_o in_o judge_v the_o power_n of_o sin_n to_o be_v but_o infirmity_n for_o if_o any_o thing_n trouble_v a_o unregenerate_a man_n and_o make_v he_o call_v his_o estate_n into_o question_n it_o be_v sin_n either_o in_o the_o be_v or_o power_n of_o it_o now_o sin_n in_o the_o be_v aught_o noâ—_n must_v not_o make_v a_o man_n question_v his_o estate_n because_o the_o best_a have_v that_o leave_v in_o they_o that_o will_v humble_v they_o and_o make_v they_o live_v by_o faith_n therefore_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n only_o can_v trouble_v a_o man_n now_o if_o a_o man_n do_v judge_n of_o this_o to_o sin_n yet_o they_o strive_v against_o they_o and_o so_o can_v leave_v they_o for_o we_o must_v have_v sin_n as_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o they_o say_v now_o mark_v it_o there_o be_v no_o sure_a sign_n of_o a_o man_n under_o the_o bloody_a reign_n and_o dominion_n of_o his_o lust_n and_o sin_n than_o this_o that_o be_v to_o give_v way_n to_o sin_n though_o never_o so_o little_a and_o common_a nor_o to_o be_v great_o trouble_v for_o sin_n for_o they_o may_v be_v a_o little_a trouble_v because_o they_o can_v overcome_v sin_n i_o deny_v not_o but_o the_o best_a do_v sin_n daily_o yet_o this_o be_v the_o disposition_n of_o paul_n and_o every_o child_n of_o god_n he_o mourn_v not_o the_o less_o but_o the_o more_o for_o sin_n though_o he_o can_v quite_o subdue_v they_o cast_v they_o out_o and_o overcome_v they_o as_o a_o prisoner_n mourn_v the_o more_o that_o he_o be_v bind_v with_o such_o fetter_n he_o can_v break_v so_o do_v eyery_a one_o true_o sensible_a of_o his_o woeful_a boat_n he_o call_v for_o it_o and_o though_o there_o be_v no_o treasure_n in_o the_o boat_n yet_o he_o use_v the_o boat_n to_o carry_v he_o over_o to_o the_o treasure_n so_o christ_n be_v in_o heaven_n and_o thou_o on_o earth_n he_o do_v not_o come_v to_o thou_o and_o thou_o can_v not_o go_v to_o he_o now_o call_v for_o a_o boat_n though_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n no_o good_a no_o salvation_n in_o a_o pithless_a duty_n yet_o use_v it_o to_o carry_v thou_o over_o to_o the_o treasure_n the_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n when_o thou_o come_v to_o hear_v say_v have_v over_o lord_n by_o this_o sermon_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o pray_v say_v have_v over_o lord_n by_o this_o prayer_n to_o a_o saviour_n but_o this_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o people_n like_o foolish_a lover_n when_o they_o be_v to_o woe_n for_o the_o lady_n they_o fall_v in_o love_n with_o her_o handmaid_n that_o be_v only_o to_o lead_v they_o to_o she_o so_o man_n fall_v in_o love_n with_o and_o dote_v upon_o their_o own_o duty_n and_o rest_v content_v with_o the_o naked_a performance_n of_o they_o which_o be_v only_a handmaid_n to_o lead_v the_o soul_n unto_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n second_o 2._o use_v duty_n as_o evidence_n of_o god_n everlasting_a love_n to_o you_o when_o you_o be_v in_o christ_n for_o the_o grace_n and_o duty_n of_o god_n people_n although_o they_o be_v not_o cause_n yet_o cast_v away_o good_a duty_n no_o for_o they_o be_v evidence_n if_o thou_o be_v in_o christ_n that_o the_o lord_n and_o mercy_n be_v thou_o own_o woman_n will_v not_o cast_v away_o their_o love-token_n although_o they_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o do_v not_o purchase_v or_o merit_v the_o love_n of_o their_o husband_n but_o because_o they_o be_v token_n of_o his_o love_n therefore_o they_o will_v keep_v they_o safe_a that_o god_n the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v honour_v by_o the_o performance_n of_o these_o duty_n 3_o therefore_o use_v they_o christ_n shed_v his_o blood_n that_o he_o may_v purchase_v unto_o himself_o a_o people_n zealous_a of_o good_a work_n tit._n 2._o 14._o not_o to_o save_v our_o soul_n by_o they_o but_o to_o honour_v he_o oh_o let_v not_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v shed_v in_o vain_a grace_n &_o good_a duty_n be_v a_o christian_n crown_n it_o be_v sin_n only_o make_v a_o man_n base_a now_o shall_v a_o king_n cast_v away_o his_o crown_n shall_v fall_v if_o it_o shall_v be_v divide_v and_o be_v always_o in_o a_o combustion_n hence_o he_o labour_v for_o peace_n luke_n 11._o 21._o when_o the_o strong_a man_n keep_v the_o palace_n his_o good_n be_v in_o peace_n that_o be_v when_o satan_n arm_v with_o abundance_n of_o shift_n and_o carnal_a reason_n possess_v man_n soul_n they_o be_v at_o peace_n now_o look_v as_o master_n give_v their_o servant_n peace_n even_o so_o the_o devil_n 1._o by_o remove_v all_o thing_n that_o may_v trouble_v they_o and_o 2._o by_o give_v unto_o they_o all_o thing_n that_o may_v quiet_a and_o comfort_v they_o as_o meat_n drink_n rest_n lodging_n etc._n etc._n so_o do_v satan_n deal_v with_o his_o slave_n and_o servant_n first_o by_o remove_v those_o sin_n which_o trouble_v the_o conscience_n for_o a_o man_n may_v live_v in_o a_o sin_n and_o yet_o never_o be_v trouble_v for_o that_o sin_n for_o sin_n against_o the_o light_n of_o conscience_n only_o trouble_v the_o conscience_n as_o child_n that_o be_v tumble_v and_o play_v in_o the_o dust_n they_o be_v not_o trouble_v with_o all_o the_o dust_n nay_o they_o take_v pleasure_n to_o wallow_v in_o it_o but_o only_o with_o that_o whether_o it_o be_v small_a or_o great_a that_o light_n in_o their_o eye_n and_o hence_o that_o young_a man_n come_v boast_v to_o christ_n that_o he_o have_v keep_v all_o the_o commandment_n from_o his_o youth_n but_o go_v away_o sorrowful_a because_o that_o dust_n that_o sin_n he_o live_v in_o with_o delight_n before_o fall_v into_o his_o eye_n and_o therefore_o be_v trouble_v now_o mark_v the_o plot_n of_o the_o devil_n when_o he_o can_v make_v a_o man_n live_v and_o wallow_v and_o delight_n in_o his_o sin_n and_o so_o serve_v he_o and_o yet_o will_v not_o suffer_v he_o to_o live_v in_o any_o sin_n against_o conscience_n whereby_o he_o shall_v be_v trouble_v and_o so_o seek_v to_o come_v out_o of_o his_o woeful_a estate_n he_o be_v sure_a this_o man_n be_v his_o own_o and_o now_o a_o poor_a delude_a man_n himself_o go_v up_o and_o down_o not_o doubt_v but_o he_o shall_v be_v save_v why_o because_o their_o conscience_n they_o thank_v god_n be_v clear_a and_o they_o know_v in_o their_o company_n in_o their_o pastime_n and_o that_o sometime_o under_o a_o pretence_n of_o christian_a liberty_n and_o never_o trouble_v themselves_o with_o these_o needless_a controversy_n to_o what_o end_n or_o in_o what_o manner_n do_v i_o use_v these_o thing_n whereas_o the_o righteous_a man_n fear_v always_o consider_v there_o be_v a_o snare_n for_o he_o in_o every_o lawful_a liberty_n may_v not_o i_o sin_n in_o my_o mirth_n in_o my_o speak_n in_o my_o sleep_n oh_o this_o liberty_n that_o the_o devil_n give_v and_o the_o world_n take_v besot_v most_o man_n with_o a_o foolish_a opinion_n that_o all_o be_v well_o with_o they_o three_o by_o give_v the_o soul_n good_a diet_n meat_n and_o drink_n enough_o what_o dish_n he_o like_v best_o let_v a_o master_n give_v liberty_n yet_o his_o servant_n be_v not_o please_v unless_o he_o have_v meat_n and_o drink_v and_o food_n so_o there_o be_v no_o wicked_a man_n under_o heaven_n but_o as_o he_o take_v too_o much_o from_o the_o act_n of_o sin_n as_o no_o man_n do_v always_o swear_v nor_o be_v he_o always_o drink_v nor_o always_o angry_a they_o think_v only_o their_o fall_n in_o these_o or_o the_o like_a sin_n
