how_o helpful_a this_o will_v be_v to_o they_o and_o something_o for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o those_o that_o doubt_v that_o they_o be_v not_o believer_n but_o we_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n at_o once_o this_o shall_v suffice_v for_o the_o present_a the_o mere_a present_v to_o your_o soul_n what_o rest_v there_o be_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o load_n of_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n from_o the_o load_n that_o many_o feel_v to_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n through_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n chap._n xxxi_o contain_v divers_a consequence_n from_o the_o rest_n believer_n have_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o lesson_n they_o be_v teach_v from_o thence_o to_o proceed_v now_o there_o be_v divers_a thing_n that_o follow_v from_o hence_o from_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o burden_n and_o load_n of_o the_o law_n i_o shall_v speak_v very_o brief_o of_o they_o and_o so_o pass_v to_o what_o remain_v in_o the_o next_o burden_n and_o rest_n to_o that_o from_o hence_o follow_v exceed_v help_n unto_o believer_n against_o divers_a temptation_n that_o do_v exceed_o trouble_v the_o peace_n and_o rest_n of_o their_o soul_n if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o those_o several_a respect_n as_o at_o large_a have_v be_v open_v to_o you_o 1._o then_o first_o from_o the_o meditation_n of_o this_o their_o delivery_n they_o may_v have_v rest_n and_o ease_n from_o this_o temptation_n that_o because_o of_o some_o imperfection_n weakness_n and_o distemper_n of_o heart_n and_o sin_n that_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o therefore_o they_o have_v no_o interest_n at_o all_o in_o christ_n they_o have_v no_o interest_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n because_o of_o that_o the_o strength_n of_o this_o temptation_n can_v stand_v with_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n as_o deliver_v from_o the_o law_n if_o christ_n deliver_v from_o the_o law_n than_o a_o interest_n in_o christ_n may_v stand_v though_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o keep_v the_o law_n yea_o and_o further_o we_o know_v this_o that_o it_o be_v usual_a with_o believer_n upon_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n in_o any_o thing_n to_o call_v their_o estate_n into_o question_n all_o into_o question_n certain_o if_o we_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n not_o by_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n not_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o the_o law_n we_o will_v never_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o call_v all_o into_o question_n upon_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o our_o conscience_n tell_v we_o we_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o 2._o further_o this_o will_v marvellous_o help_v against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o that_o god_n accept_v not_o of_o what_o we_o do_v because_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_a because_o it_o be_v not_o complete_a when_o believer_n look_v upon_o their_o duty_n that_o they_o do_v perform_v and_o see_v so_o many_o imperfection_n in_o they_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n god_n be_v a_o infinite_a holy_a just_a god_n and_o they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o what_o they_o have_v do_v so_o as_o they_o dare_v not_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n now_o the_o right_a knowledge_n of_o our_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n will_v help_v we_o against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o remember_v o_o thou_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n through_o a_o better_a covenant_n than_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o further_o this_o will_v help_v against_o this_o temptation_n also_o that_o many_o time_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o hear_v of_o divers_a that_o have_v seem_v to_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v that_o have_v have_v more_o ability_n than_o they_o have_v have_v have_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o for_o god_n than_o they_o have_v do_v yet_o for_o all_o this_o have_v fall_v away_o and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v have_v perish_v for_o ever_o now_o say_v many_o a_o poor_a christian_a if_o such_o eminent_a man_n of_o such_o excellent_a ability_n that_o be_v able_a to_o do_v such_o great_a thing_n if_o they_o that_o go_v thus_o far_o fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o such_o a_o poor_a creature_n as_o i_o be_o now_o by_o the_o understanding_n of_o our_o deliverance_n that_o we_o have_v from_o the_o law_n by_o christ_n we_o come_v to_o have_v help_n against_o this_o temptation_n for_o let_v a_o man_n have_v never_o such_o ability_n and_o be_v able_a to_o do_v never_o so_o much_o work_v yet_o this_o man_n may_v fall_v away_o when_o one_o that_o be_v a_o thousand_o time_n weak_a in_o regard_n of_o ability_n that_o have_v the_o least_o dram_n of_o true_a faith_n which_o bring_v he_o into_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n will_v stand_v such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v when_o the_o other_o fall_v if_o indeed_o thy_o stand_n do_v depend_v upon_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o than_o thou_o have_v cause_n to_o lear_a that_o see_v such_o as_o do_v stand_v fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o thou_o but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n our_o stand_n or_o fall_v do_v not_o depend_v upon_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o upon_o christ_n that_o have_v undertake_v for_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o member_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o be_v once_o bring_v into_o the_o covenant_n that_o will_v uphold_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v weak_a when_o thousand_o of_o other_o that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n yet_o be_v not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n may_v vanish_v yea_o have_v they_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o angel_n yet_o if_o not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o believer_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v fall_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o whenas_o the_o weak_a believer_n that_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o not_o through_o the_o law_n such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v and_o not_o fall_v now_o the_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o christ_n will_v mighty_o help_v believer_n against_o these_o temptation_n and_o divers_a other_o i_o know_v nothing_o that_o do_v help_v believer_n more_o than_o this_o in_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o that_o sense_n as_o have_v be_v show_v before_o likewise_o from_o hence_o there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o lesson_n to_o be_v learn_v as_o the_o first_o lesson_n first_o from_o this_o deliverance_n we_o be_v teach_v to_o entertain_v the_o hear_n of_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n i_o speak_v to_o believer_n though_o other_o may_v make_v a_o ill_a use_n in_o hear_v the_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o must_v not_o miss_v their_o portion_n i_o say_v believer_n be_v hereby_o teach_v how_o to_o receive_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n you_o hear_v dreadful_a threat_n of_o the_o law_n out_o of_o god_n word_n against_o sin_n now_o how_o shall_v thou_o entertain_v these_o threat_n the_o way_n be_v this_o when_o thou_o hear_v such_o threat_n know_v that_o god_n by_o this_o will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o his_o mercy_n be_v in_o deliver_v of_o thou_o from_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n be_v in_o itself_o and_o to_o consider_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o be_v drive_v to_o christ_n by_o this_o mean_n to_o see_v thy_o need_n of_o christ_n to_o bless_v his_o name_n for_o christ_n and_o to_o prize_n christ_n who_o have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o these_o threaten_n a_o believer_n when_o he_o hear_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n be_v like_o a_o man_n that_o stand_v upon_o the_o shore_n when_o there_o be_v a_o grievous_a tempest_n and_o storm_n he_o see_v the_o wave_n rise_v high_a hear_v the_o wind_n blow_v and_o the_o wave_n roar_v but_o he_o stand_v safe_a upon_o the_o haven_n indeed_o he_o be_v in_o the_o storm_n and_o tempest_n but_o god_n have_v bring_v he_o to_o the_o haven_n and_o there_o he_o stand_v and_o bless_v god_n it_o may_v be_v he_o see_v other_o ship_n a_o great_a way_n off_o ready_a to_o be_v split_v upon_o the_o rock_n or_o swallow_v up_o but_o he_o be_v safe_a on_o the_o shore_n so_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o all_o believer_n when_o they_o hear_v the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n they_o shall_v entertain_v they_o with_o blessing_n
quite_o against_o those_o duty_n opposite_a unto_o they_o there_o be_v a_o contrary_a stream_n in_o they_o they_o go_v against_o wind_n and_o tide_n you_o know_v what_o a_o burdensome_a thing_n it_o be_v for_o the_o boatman_n to_o go_v against_o wind_n and_o tide_n he_o must_v put_v to_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o strength_n so_o it_o be_v here_o till_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o to_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n have_v only_a conviction_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v put_v upon_o duty_n there_o be_v such_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o such_o evil_a principle_n in_o all_o man_n natural_o that_o be_v as_o wind_n and_o tide_n against_o those_o duty_n and_o yet_o say_v conscience_n you_o must_v do_v they_o though_o you_o find_v your_o inclination_n to_o be_v never_o so_o strong_a another_o way_n yet_o conscience_n tell_v you_o you_o must_v do_v they_o and_o when_o god_n be_v please_v to_o put_v strength_n into_o conscience_n it_o will_v make_v a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n to_o go_v on_o in_o duty_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o cross_a to_o their_o own_o nature_n you_o will_v say_v if_o it_o be_v cross_a to_o their_o own_o nature_n why_o do_v they_o not_o leave_v it_o off_o no_o they_o dare_v not_o notwithstanding_o so_o it_o be_v true_a we_o shall_v show_v you_o afterward_o that_o even_o godly_a man_n and_o beleiver_n be_v burden_v with_o corruption_n they_o have_v contrary_a principle_n to_o the_o duty_n too_o i_o but_o they_o be_v not_o so_o prevail_v as_o with_o unbeliever_n that_o be_v only_o legal_a it_o be_v a_o tedious_a thing_n you_o know_v to_o cast_v a_o stone_n upward_o not_o only_o to_o cause_v a_o stone_n to_o move_v any_o way_n that_o be_v some_o trouble_n because_o you_o keep_v it_o from_o its_o centre_n but_o to_o put_v it_o upon_o a_o motion_n that_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o the_o principle_n that_o be_v burdensome_a because_o all_o heavy_a thing_n have_v principle_n in_o they_o that_o work_v downward_o therefore_o to_o put_v they_o upon_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o their_o natural_a principle_n it_o be_v a_o motion_n that_o will_v cause_v burden_n and_o that_o because_o you_o keep_v they_o from_o their_o own_o centre_n so_o conscience_n may_v keep_v a_o man_n and_o woman_n from_o their_o own_o centre_n from_o those_o wicked_a course_n that_o their_o nature_n be_v incline_v unto_o and_o all_o the_o while_o they_o be_v keep_v from_o the_o course_n that_o their_o nature_n do_v so_o strong_o incline_v they_o unto_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a to_o they_o until_o god_n come_v and_o sanctify_v their_o heart_n they_o may_v be_v a_o great_a while_n without_o any_o sanctification_n many_o who_o conscience_n be_v convince_v may_v go_v on_o in_o duty_n without_o sanctification_n in_o they_o the_o three_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 3._o one_o that_o go_v on_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n mere_o be_v weary_a and_o tire_v with_o what_o he_o do_v and_o yet_o can_v find_v no_o strength_n come_v in_o unto_o he_o no_o further_a ability_n to_o perform_v what_o conscience_n put_v he_o upon_o than_o he_o have_v at_o first_o nay_o rather_o less_o ability_n now_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a as_o suppose_v a_o man_n be_v put_v upon_o a_o work_n and_o if_o he_o have_v no_o mind_n to_o it_o that_o be_v tedious_a but_o if_o it_o be_v against_o the_o hair_n quite_o opposite_a to_o his_o disposition_n that_o be_v more_o tedious_a yet_o he_o must_v go_v on_o and_o he_o toil_v and_o weary_v himself_o and_o yet_o the_o more_o he_o work_v the_o more_o grievous_a it_o be_v unto_o he_o for_o he_o find_v no_o strength_n come_v but_o strength_n weary_v rather_o his_o strength_n wear_v a_o way_n and_o no_o strength_n come_v in_o to_o assist_v he_o and_o yet_o his_o work_n be_v as_o strong_a as_o it_o be_v that_o work_n must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a so_o those_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a they_o go_v on_o still_o in_o duty_n and_o the_o work_n be_v still_o as_o strong_a but_o they_o be_v weak_a many_o a_o man_n when_o he_o first_o set_v upon_o a_o work_n be_v cold_a and_o benumb_v burr_n when_o he_o continue_v in_o the_o work_n he_o get_v warmth_n and_o then_o it_o be_v not_o so_o burdensome_a unto_o he_o but_o if_o he_o continue_v in_o the_o work_n and_o be_v cold_a and_o cold_a this_o be_v very_o tedious_a to_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n conscience_n put_v they_o upon_o it_o at_o first_o and_o they_o go_v to_o duty_n with_o some_o vigour_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o grow_v more_o weary_a and_o the_o work_n be_v more_o tedious_a and_o yet_o conscience_n put_v they_o upon_o asmuch_o work_n as_o at_o first_o when_o a_o man_n have_v be_v at_o work_n and_o grow_v weary_a and_o desire_v ease_n and_o a_o cruel_a taskmaster_n shall_v come_v and_o tell_v he_o there_o must_v be_v no_o decrease_n of_o your_o work_n nor_o no_o increase_n of_o your_o strength_n this_o must_v needs_o be_v tedious_a thus_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n conscience_n put_v upon_o they_o as_o much_o work_n when_o they_o be_v weary_a and_o tire_v as_o at_o first_o here_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o work_n of_o sanctification_n &_o legal_a performance_n though_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v hard_o at_o first_o yet_o while_o the_o soul_n set_v upon_o they_o there_o come_v in_o strength_n and_o the_o more_o work_v the_o more_o strength_n they_o do_v not_o spend_v their_o strength_n and_o throw_v it_o away_o and_o grow_v more_o weary_a afterward_o then_o at_o first_o but_o the_o more_o they_o have_v experience_n of_o the_o way_n the_o more_o strength_n they_o have_v they_o grow_v warm_a at_o their_o work_n and_o be_v warm_a they_o get_v further_o and_o further_a strength_n and_o it_o grow_v easy_a unto_o they_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o one_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n some_o have_v be_v seven_o year_n in_o a_o profesion_n of_o religion_n and_o make_v conscience_n of_o their_o duty_n yet_o after_o seven_o year_n spend_v their_o heart_n no_o more_o mortify_v then_o at_o first_o and_o they_o have_v get_v no_o more_o strength_n then_o at_o first_o their_o lust_n be_v less_o mortify_v and_o their_o strength_n be_v less_o than_o at_o first_o and_o therefore_o their_o work_n must_v needs_o be_v grievous_a unto_o they_o the_o 4._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 4._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n mere_o while_o they_o be_v strive_v to_o do_v their_o duty_n they_o be_v contract_v still_o further_a guilt_n upon_o their_o soul_n they_o strive_v to_o do_v that_o that_o the_o law_n require_v and_o in_o their_o very_a strive_v they_o be_v break_v of_o the_o law_n you_o will_v say_v so_o godly_a man_n while_o they_o be_v strive_v to_o do_v their_o duty_n they_o sin_v also_o there_o be_v imperfection_n in_o the_o best_a i_o but_o yet_o their_o sin_n be_v do_v away_o in_o christ_n their_o sin_n be_v not_o lay_v to_o their_o charge_n but_o those_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a while_o they_o be_v strive_v they_o sin_n and_o contract_n guiltiness_n upon_o their_o spirit_n and_o it_o lie_v upon_o they_o and_o they_o stand_v charge_v with_o it_o but_o than_o it_o may_v be_v say_v it_o be_v better_a that_o they_o do_v not_o strive_v no_o not_o so_o neither_o conscience_n must_v have_v they_o strive_v it_o will_v be_v a_o great_a guiltiness_n if_o they_o shall_v not_o strive_v though_o when_o they_o strive_v they_o stand_v charge_v with_o further_a evil_n then_o before_o now_o this_o be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n as_o now_o if_o a_o man_n be_v roll_a a_o stone_n up_o a_o hill_n and_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o have_v roll_v it_o up_o the_o stone_n shall_v come_v down_o upon_o he_o again_o it_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a tiresome_a work_n it_o be_v so_o with_o those_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a while_o they_o be_v in_o duty_n in_o work_v still_o corruption_n bring_v they_o down_o again_o and_o they_o contract_v continual_o guiltiness_n upon_o their_o soul_n the_o 5._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 5._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n what_o they_o do_v they_o do_v mere_o out_o of_o fear_n they_o be_v put_v upon_o it_o in_o a_o forcible_a and_o rigorous_a way_n they_o be_v put_v upon_o all_o their_o duty_n in_o a_o rigorous_a way_n mere_o by_o force_n and_o constraint_n if_o you_o put_v a_o man_n to_o do_v a_o thing_n mere_o by_o force_n it_o be_v very_o tedious_a to_o he_o and_o especial_o when_o your_o force_n of_o he_o be_v with_o rigour_n as_o those_o that_o be_v slave_n they_o be_v not_o only_o exhort_v to_o
all_o and_o yet_o you_o do_v not_o cry_v out_o but_o paul_n he_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o his_o sin_n yet_o the_o very_a remainder_n of_o sin_n in_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o there_o be_v much_o sin_n in_o many_o of_o your_o heart_n and_o you_o cry_v not_o out_o of_o it_o paul_n he_o be_v deliver_v and_o yet_o he_o crier_n out_o of_o it_o who_o shall_v deliver_v corruption_n and_o so_o make_v some_o application_n of_o it_o first_o then_o in_o what_o respect_n the_o remain_a part_n of_o sin_n and_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o sadness_n you_o have_v as_o much_o cause_n to_o be_v sad_a as_o they_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a but_o because_o they_o be_v no_o more_o religious_a not_o because_o now_o they_o do_v more_o duty_n than_o they_o do_v before_o but_o because_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n come_v up_o to_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o will_v do_v not_o attribute_n their_o grief_n to_o their_o godliness_n but_o rather_o say_v to_o thyself_o thus_o if_o they_o that_o do_v so_o much_o for_o god_n be_v yet_o so_o much_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v because_o they_o do_v no_o more_o for_o god_n how_o much_o cause_n of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n have_v i_o then_o that_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o god_n the_o second_o burden_n of_o corruption_n second_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o shame_n grief_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o shame_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o that_o can_v bear_v great_a burden_n that_o can_v bear_v the_o burden_n of_o poverty_n yet_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o disgrace_n especial_o to_o those_o that_o be_v most_o ingenious_a it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n in_o the_o world_n now_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o they_o they_o account_v it_o a_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o his_o bless_a angel_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o what_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o ashame_n that_o they_o do_v lose_v the_o sense_n of_o feeling_n certain_o that_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v dead_a no_o sense_n inward_o or_o outward_o there_o be_v some_o sense_n of_o feeling_n so_o long_o as_o there_o be_v life_n so_o here_o though_o there_o may_v be_v many_o weakness_n in_o man_n and_o woman_n yet_o when_o they_o do_v not_o feel_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n at_o all_o certain_o they_o be_v dead_a man_n and_o woman_n now_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o heavy_a lade_v come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v know_v that_o christ_n speak_v to_o you_o not_o only_o out_o of_o pity_n as_o to_o those_o that_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n but_o out_o of_o love_n and_o know_v that_o by_o this_o you_o come_v to_o be_v fit_v for_o christ_n and_o it_o be_v that_o that_o be_v as_o delightful_a to_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n to_o give_v ease_n and_o rest_v to_o his_o poor_a servant_n that_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n as_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v a_o special_a end_n why_o christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o dissolve_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n our_o corruption_n be_v from_o the_o devil_n and_o be_v tie_v close_o to_o we_o and_o they_o easy_o beset_v we_o as_o the_o expression_n be_v now_o i_o say_v it_o be_v the_o end_n why_o jesus_n christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o dissolve_v the_o work_n of_o the_o devil_n that_o be_v when_o he_o see_v his_o poor_a servant_n under_o this_o burden_n and_o to_o cry_v out_o under_o it_o as_o paul_n do_v who_o respect_v the_o stir_n and_o motion_n of_o corruption_n 〈◊〉_d very_o burdensome_a 1._o they_o continual_o fight_v against_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n 2._o they_o be_v sudden_a this_o corrupt_a nature_n do_v not_o lie_v still_o but_o be_v always_o work_v stir_a act_v and_o put_v itself_o forth_o unto_o that_o that_o be_v evil_a now_o the_o motion_n of_o sin_n be_v burdensome_a 1._o for_o first_o they_o be_v continual_o fight_v against_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n the_o flesh_n lust_v against_o the_o spirit_n now_o to_o have_v a_o continual_a fight_v and_o combat_v in_o the_o soul_n be_v it_o not_o very_o burdensome_a as_o a_o family_n where_o there_o be_v a_o continual_a fall_v out_o never_o a_o day_n that_o you_o come_v to_o some_o family_n but_o there_o be_v fall_v out_o and_o fight_v be_v it_o not_o burdensome_a to_o live_v in_o such_o a_o family_n now_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n there_o be_v a_o continual_a fight_n if_o one_o shall_v be_v in_o a_o family_n where_o the_o husband_n and_o wife_n be_v continual_o fight_v one_o with_o a_o other_o and_o the_o child_n and_o servant_n fly_v in_o the_o face_n one_o of_o a_o other_o that_o will_v be_v burdensome_a now_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n there_o be_v the_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n continual_o fight_v one_o against_o another_o be_v not_o war_n in_o a_o kingdom_n a_o burden_n and_o especial_o when_o man_n shall_v fight_v to_o make_v themselves_o slave_n as_o i_o say_v before_o will_v any_o man_n ever_o have_v think_v it_o possible_a that_o there_o shall_v be_v such_o folly_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o in_o england_n to_o fight_v to_o make_v themselves_o and_o their_o posterity_n slave_n that_o the_o very_a victory_n that_o they_o shall_v get_v be_v to_o bring_v they_o to_o be_v slave_n now_o the_o fight_n with_o corruption_n it_o be_v for_o this_o end_n 2_o and_o then_o the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n be_v sudden_a many_o time_n a_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o be_v gracious_a and_o godly_a that_o find_v their_o heart_n in_o some_o good_a temper_n and_o work_n for_o god_n sudden_o their_o corruption_n will_v be_v stir_v in_o they_o unexpected_o which_o be_v extreme_a grief_n and_o damp_n to_o their_o spirit_n and_o cause_v many_o time_n exceed_v much_o trouble_n to_o they_o sudden_o that_o no_o body_n can_v understand_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o but_o themselves_o 3._o and_o then_o the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n be_v violent_a the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v many_o time_n extreme_a violent_a and_o outrageous_a the_o devil_n stir_v up_o their_o corruption_n and_o indeed_o the_o corruption_n themselves_o be_v as_o it_o be_v devil_n in_o they_o that_o do_v as_o the_o devil_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o he_o that_o be_v possess_v he_o cause_v he_o to_o foam_v at_o the_o mouth_n so_o there_o be_v extreme_a violence_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o lamentable_a conditition_n of_o the_o poor_a child_n that_o be_v possess_v in_o the_o gospel_n when_o the_o father_n come_v to_o christ_n for_o help_v because_o when_o the_o evil_a spirit_n come_v it_o cast_v he_o into_o the_o fire_n and_o into_o the_o water_n so_o corruption_n be_v so_o violent_a in_o
that_o god_n aim_v at_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o just_a judgement_n upon_o they_o thereby_o 7._o god_n do_v it_o for_o this_o reason_n that_o the_o saint_n may_v long_o more_o after_o heaven_n therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o order_n of_o his_o providence_n work_v so_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v keep_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n in_o this_o world_n that_o they_o may_v long_o to_o be_v in_o heaven_n with_o their_o father_n and_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o heaven_n they_o may_v know_v the_o difference_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n between_o their_o state_n there_o in_o heaven_n and_o their_o state_n here_o on_o earth_n thus_o though_o corruption_n may_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o we_o while_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n yet_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o great_a end_n and_o purpose_n to_o suffer_v thou_o a_o poor_a creature_n to_o be_v under_o remain_v corruption_n and_o therefore_o thou_o can_v not_o draw_v any_o such_o argument_n god_n love_v i_o not_o for_o if_o he_o love_v i_o he_o will_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o corruption_n i_o have_v be_v pray_v a_o longtime_n to_o be_v deliver_v and_o yet_o i_o be_o not_o deliver_v do_v not_o gather_v any_o such_o argument_n from_o it_o you_o know_v paul_n pray_v once_o and_o again_o and_o all_o the_o answer_n he_o have_v be_v my_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o thou_o so_o though_o thou_o pray_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n again_o and_o again_o yet_o if_o once_o god_n say_v thus_o to_o thy_o soul_n my_o grace_n shall_v be_v see_v from_o hence_o also_o one_o reason_n why_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n go_v on_o sometime_o so_o sad_o in_o their_o way_n thou_o do_v not_o know_v what_o burden_n they_o be_v under_o but_o you_o will_v say_v we_o be_v better_o we_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o no_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o sin_n as_o thou_o have_v they_o have_v get_v some_o grace_n thou_o have_v none_o they_o have_v in_o some_o degree_n mortify_v their_o sin_n thou_o have_v not_o yea_o they_o have_v their_o sin_n pardon_v thou_o have_v not_o but_o yet_o though_o they_o have_v some_o assurance_n that_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n be_v remove_v yet_o the_o very_a remain_v of_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n be_v their_o burden_n object_n you_o will_v say_v why_o shall_v it_o be_v so_o burdensome_a if_o they_o know_v the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n to_o be_v forgive_v answ_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o there_o be_v a_o deal_n of_o difference_n between_o a_o carnal_a heart_n and_o a_o godly_a heart_n one_o that_o have_v a_o carnal_a heart_n if_o he_o can_v be_v ease_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o conscience_n he_o be_v no_o more_o trouble_v but_o now_o a_o gracious_a heart_n though_o he_o be_v first_o burden_v with_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n &_o that_o burden_n be_v remove_v yet_o there_o remain_v a_o body_n of_o death_n there_o be_v another_o burden_n still_o upon_o he_o so_o that_o the_o very_o remain_v of_o some_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o he_o than_o all_o thy_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o and_o together_o with_o thy_o corruption_n all_o the_o guilt_n that_o be_v upon_o thou_o only_o thou_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o if_o a_o whole_a building_n fall_v down_o those_o that_o be_v bury_v in_o the_o grave_n they_o will_v not_o feel_v it_o but_o all_o you_o that_o be_v alive_a if_o it_o shall_v fall_v down_o will_v feel_v it_o so_o the_o wicked_a have_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o in_o the_o guilt_n of_o it_o upon_o they_o and_o they_o feel_v it_o not_o for_o they_o be_v dead_a but_o the_o godly_a though_o they_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n remove_v yet_o the_o very_a lest_o sin_n remain_v in_o they_o be_v a_o burden_n though_o they_o have_v mortify_v their_o sin_n and_o do_v it_o every_o day_n yet_o the_o remain_v of_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o and_o hence_o you_o may_v see_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o watchfulness_n of_o the_o saint_n over_o their_o spirit_n why_o they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n and_o rise_v so_o early_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n you_o will_v say_v they_o know_v that_o if_o they_o do_v not_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n to_o a_o void_a sin_n it_o will_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n afterward_o now_o you_o do_v not_o watch_v over_o sin_n because_o you_o do_v not_o know_v what_o a_o grievous_a burden_n sin_n be_v when_o they_o labour_n under_o it_o but_o such_o a_o one_o as_o feel_v the_o burden_n of_o sin_n the_o lord_n be_v merciful_a to_o i_o i_o have_v think_v say_v he_o my_o back_n will_v have_v break_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n and_o therefore_o david_n pray_v for_o the_o heal_n of_o the_o bone_n that_o be_v break_v and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o watchfulness_n and_o carefulness_n of_o the_o saint_n under_o this_o burden_n now_o the_o main_a thing_n that_o have_v be_v intend_v in_o all_o that_o i_o have_v say_v about_o this_o burden_n be_v this_o that_o i_o may_v point_v out_o those_o who_o christ_n call_v to_o himself_o that_o you_o may_v be_v prepare_v to_o hearken_v to_o the_o invitation_n of_o christ_n to_o come_v to_o he_o for_o rest_n though_o we_o be_v not_o come_v to_o that_o yet_o take_v notice_n that_o there_o be_v rest_n in_o christ_n for_o all_o these_o from_o under_o all_o these_o burden_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n chap._n xviii_o of_o the_o burden_n of_o outward_a affliction_n and_o the_o grievousness_n thereof_o lay_v open_a in_o three_o particular_n 1._o in_o themselves_o they_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n 2._o they_o hinder_v much_o in_o do_v service_n to_o god_n 3._o they_o often_o help_v forward_o many_o strong_a temptation_n why_o god_n will_v have_v his_o saint_n to_o be_v under_o this_o burden_n namely_o 1._o because_o he_o will_v have_v his_o servant_n to_o honour_n and_o obey_v he_o mere_o out_o of_o love_n 2._o because_o he_o know_v that_o thus_o their_o corruption_n may_v be_v best_a mortify_v 3._o to_o be_v a_o stumbling-block_n to_o the_o wicked_a the_o next_o burden_n be_v the_o burden_z of_o affliction_n the_o burden_n of_o outward_a affliction_n poverty_n disgrace_n sickness_n or_o any_o kind_n of_o trouble_n in_o this_o world_n you_o shall_v find_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v very_o burdensome_a to_o you_o now_o christ_n call_v such_o as_o labour_n under_o this_o burden_n to_o come_v to_o he_o and_o promise_v to_o give_v they_o rest_n christ_n have_v a_o tender_a affection_n towards_o poor_a creature_n under_o outward_a burden_n towards_o all_o those_o that_o the_o father_n have_v rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n even_o from_o under_o these_o burden_n i_o have_v spend_v some_o time_n in_o open_v the_o grievousness_n of_o other_o burden_n now_o this_o burden_n of_o
acknowledge_v that_o it_o be_v through_o grace_n that_o he_o have_v but_o somewhat_o which_o god_n work_v through_o he_o that_o be_v the_o most_o natural_a to_o a_o rational_a creature_n to_o rest_v upon_o somewhat_o that_o he_o do_v to_o make_v up_o his_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o to_o be_v his_o righteousness_n before_o god_n and_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o god_n to_o beat_v off_o the_o heart_n from_o this_o especial_o the_o heart_n come_v thus_o far_o to_o say_v it_o be_v true_a i_o can_v do_v nothing_o of_o myself_o but_o it_o be_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o i_o do_v all_o now_o for_o the_o heart_n not_o to_o rest_v upon_o this_o as_o its_o own_o righteousness_n this_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o although_o man_n may_v be_v convince_v in_o their_o judgement_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o rest_v in_o any_o such_o thing_n but_o go_v out_o of_o themselves_o to_o another_o principle_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v off_o from_o it_o and_o it_o be_v that_o make_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n the_o most_o difficult_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n because_o it_o carry_v the_o soul_n out_o of_o itself_o from_o its_o own_o bottom_n from_o its_o own_o principle_n and_o the_o mistake_n of_o this_o thing_n be_v that_o that_o be_v the_o undo_n of_o thousand_o of_o those_o that_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o when_o they_o have_v somewhat_o reform_v their_o life_n and_o think_v they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v thus_o and_o thus_o yet_o here_o they_o rest_n and_o go_v not_o out_o of_o themselves_o to_o look_v for_o rest_n out_o of_o themselves_o and_o do_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n quest_n you_o will_v say_v what_o not_o rest_n upon_o what_o we_o do_v and_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v upon_o god_n grace_n faith_n itself_o be_v a_o rest_v upon_o christ_n ans_fw-fr no_o but_o this_o you_o must_v observe_v in_o your_o come_n you_o must_v not_o rest_v upon_o your_o come_n but_o upon_o christ_n that_o you_o come_v unto_o for_o their_o may_v be_v a_o deceit_n in_o that_o too_o there_o be_v some_o that_o rest_n upon_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourn_v for_o sin_n reform_v their_o life_n and_o they_o think_v that_o be_v their_o rest_n and_o peace_n other_o go_v further_o and_o think_v they_o must_v believe_v in_o christ_n but_o they_o will_v rest_v upon_o their_o believe_a so_o they_o rest_v upon_o their_o come_n and_o not_o upon_o the_o object_n that_o they_o come_v unto_o but_o we_o must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o rest_v upon_o our_o come_n upon_o our_o very_a believe_a and_o christ_n must_v be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o have_v true_a rest_n in_o therefore_o faith_n be_v a_o supernatural_a grace_n because_o by_o that_o we_o be_v take_v off_o from_o what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o and_o carry_v on_o to_o somewhat_o else_o 6._o upon_o this_o follow_v likewise_o that_o faith_n be_v a_o humble_v grace_n it_o be_v that_o that_o must_v needs_o humble_a the_o soul_n where_o it_o be_v for_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n for_o a_o creature_n to_o come_v to_o be_v willing_a to_o rely_v upon_o free_a grace_n for_o the_o soul_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o acknowledge_v there_o be_v no_o worthiness_n no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o itself_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v content_a to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o al._n be_v there_o any_o thing_n more_o hard_a to_o any_o of_o you_o then_o to_o live_v to_o be_v beggar_n all_o your_o day_n to_o be_v behold_v to_o other_o so_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o nothing_o else_o all_o the_o day_n of_o your_o life_n now_o for_o the_o creature_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n to_o all_o eternity_n upon_o nothing_o but_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o upon_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n without_o ourselves_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o empty_v of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o self_n denial_n and_o therefore_o in_o rom._n 10.3_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o jew_n for_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n righteousness_n and_o go_v about_o to_o establish_v their_o own_o righteousness_n have_v not_o submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n this_o plain_o show_v that_o the_o bring_v the_o heart_n to_o rest_v upon_o the_o righteousness_n that_o be_v of_o god_n by_o faith_n for_o that_o be_v mean_v here_o require_v a_o submission_n of_o the_o heart_n a_o lay_v down_o the_o heart_n and_o a_o humble_v of_o the_o heart_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o very_a ground_n why_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o humble_a the_o spirit_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n when_o he_o bring_v they_o to_o christ_n because_o that_o the_o lord_n know_v that_o the_o very_a act_n the_o come_n to_o christ_n be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n because_o the_o heart_n must_v be_v empty_v of_o itself_o in_o that_o that_o be_v so_o much_o against_o the_o pride_n of_o man_n heart_n to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o nothing_o else_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o man_n do_v more_o desire_n then_o to_o have_v somewhat_o some_o stock_n of_o himself_o to_o live_v upon_o and_o indeed_o herein_o man_n come_v to_o be_v more_o humble_a than_o adam_n in_o innocency_n can_v be_v live_v upon_o the_o stock_n of_o grace_n he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o hand_n but_o now_o in_o the_o second_o adam_n the_o way_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o be_v otherwise_o the_o second_o adam_n keep_v the_o stock_n of_o life_n and_o grace_n upon_o which_o our_o soul_n must_v live_v eternal_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n i_o say_v they_o be_v in_o christ_n hand_n not_o in_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o we_o find_v such_o a_o kind_n of_o promise_n as_o this_o be_v in_o the_o text_n in_o jer._n 6.16_o verse_n thus_o say_v the_o lord_n stand_v in_o the_o way_n and_o see_v and_o ask_v for_o the_o old_a path_n where_o the_o good_a way_n be_v and_o walk_v therein_o and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n for_o your_o soul_n inquire_v after_o the_o good_a way_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n for_o your_o soul_n so_o that_o you_o see_v god_n propound_v duty_n together_o with_o promise_n the_o lord_n know_v what_o be_v best_a for_o we_o and_o what_o will_v work_v most_o upon_o we_o and_o therefore_o for_o we_o to_o think_v that_o we_o must_v have_v no_o aim_n at_o all_o of_o any_o good_a to_o ourselves_o in_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o grace_n but_o self-love_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n for_o our_o own_o good_a this_o be_v a_o temptation_n i_o speak_v the_o rather_o this_o point_n because_o i_o know_v how_o useful_a it_o be_v unto_o many_o poor_a soul_n who_o the_o lord_n be_v draw_v unto_o jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n have_v take_v off_o their_o heart_n from_o sinful_a self_n they_o will_v not_o enjoy_v themselves_o in_o the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o former_o the_o lord_n have_v make_v they_o willing_a to_o deny_v their_o own_o opinion_n their_o own_o will_n their_o own_o affection_n their_o former_a way_n to_o deny_v themselves_o in_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n so_o as_o to_o prize_v he_o and_o christ_n and_o his_o way_n the_o way_n of_o christ_n more_o than_o they_o prize_v their_o very_a life_n here_o in_o this_o world_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o there_o come_v a_o temptation_n upon_o they_o i_o but_o you_o seek_v christ_n only_o to_o free_v you_o from_o hell_n and_o to_o save_v you_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v but_o self-love_n it_o be_v no_o true_a grace_n because_o that_o you_o aim_v at_o yourselves_o rather_o than_o christ_n the_o devil_n can_v prevail_v with_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v draw_v to_o christ_n thus_o tell_v of_o it_o oh_o but_o you_o prize_v your_o lust_n more_o than_o christ_n or_o you_o prize_v your_o ease_n more_o than_o christ_n or_o you_o prize_v your_o or_o woman_n to_o love_v himself_o for_o eternity_n it_o be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o the_o heart_n and_o
look_v upon_o their_o faith_n as_o legal_a as_o thus_o because_o their_o faith_n do_v not_o come_v up_o so_o full_o to_o the_o perfection_n that_o they_o do_v desire_n yea_o to_o that_o perfection_n that_o the_o law_n require_v in_o any_o thing_n that_o we_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n for_o though_o the_o law_n do_v not_o mention_v any_o thing_n of_o our_o believe_a in_o christ_n yet_o thus_o much_o the_o law_n require_v that_o what_o we_o do_v shall_v be_v tender_v up_o to_o god_n and_o what_o we_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n with_o perfection_n now_o believer_n look_v upon_o what_o they_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n as_o imperfect_a this_o make_v they_o to_o make_v their_o faith_n legal_a the_o six_o lesson_n six_o another_o lesson_n that_o believer_n be_v to_o learn_v from_o the_o rest_n that_o they_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o that_o if_o they_o find_v any_o way_n or_o mean_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o terror_n that_o come_v by_o the_o law_n certain_o than_o they_o need_v not_o be_v trouble_v with_o all_o the_o terror_n that_o possible_o can_v come_v from_o any_o creature_n from_o any_o man_n if_o thy_o faith_n can_v deliver_v thou_o from_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n and_o give_v rest_n to_o thy_o soul_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o terrible_a thing_n in_o the_o law_n threaten_v against_o thy_o sin_n than_o thy_o faith_n may_v deliver_v thou_o much_o more_o from_o the_o terror_n of_o man_n for_o take_v all_o the_o rage_n and_o power_n of_o all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n and_o devil_n in_o hell_n they_o be_v not_o so_o terrible_a as_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n now_o if_o god_n have_v give_v thou_o such_o a_o grace_n into_o thy_o heart_n as_o thou_o by_o that_o come_v to_o know_v a_o way_n to_o deliver_v thou_o from_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n and_o to_o give_v rest_n unto_o thy_o soul_n from_o that_o than_o thou_o need_v not_o be_v afraid_a of_o all_o terror_n from_o wicked_a man_n do_v but_o set_v that_o grace_n of_o thy_o a_o work_n set_v it_o in_o exercise_n upon_o such_o promise_n as_o have_v give_v thou_o rest_n from_o the_o law_n and_o this_o will_v free_v thou_o from_o the_o terror_n of_o wicked_a man_n in_o the_o world_n true_o if_o believer_n do_v understand_v the_o reality_n of_o this_o point_n there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n can_v be_v terrible_a to_o they_o but_o they_o will_v have_v â—est_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o terror_n in_o the_o world_n for_o they_o may_v reason_v thus_o through_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n that_o god_n have_v give_v to_o i_o my_o soul_n have_v rest_n when_o i_o hear_v the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n dreadful_o in_o my_o ear_n yet_o i_o have_v that_o within_o i_o that_o give_v i_o rest_n from_o they_o and_o i_o be_o sure_a that_o all_o the_o terror_n of_o all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n and_o devil_n in_o hell_n can_v be_v more_o terrible_a than_o the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o as_o thou_o have_v make_v use_n of_o thy_o faith_n to_o believe_v in_o christ_n to_o get_v rest_n from_o those_o terror_n in_o the_o like_a manner_n put_v forth_o thy_o faith_n when_o thou_o hear_v the_o terror_n of_o wicked_a man_n to_o deliver_v thy_o soul_n from_o they_o let_v there_o be_v never_o so_o much_o rumour_n in_o the_o world_n yet_o thou_o may_v say_v my_o soul_n return_v unto_o thy_o rest_n the_o seven_o lesson_n seven_o another_o lesson_n that_o believer_n be_v to_o learn_v from_o their_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n which_o be_v of_o marvellous_a use_n to_o they_o in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n be_v this_o that_o certain_o it_o be_v the_o most_o unbecoming_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o see_v a_o believer_n to_o be_v rigorous_a towards_o his_o brethren_n christ_n have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o rigour_n then_o will_v thou_o be_v rigorous_a christ_n have_v give_v thou_o rest_n will_v not_o thou_o do_v what_o thou_o can_v to_o give_v thy_o brother_n rest_n too_o if_o christ_n have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o great_a trouble_n burden_n and_o bondage_n that_o thou_o be_v under_o why_o shall_v thou_o not_o endeavour_v with_o all_o thy_o might_n to_o deliver_v thy_o brother_n from_o burden_n trouble_n any_o thing_n that_o may_v grieve_v thy_o brother_n oh_o what_o a_o unworthy_a thing_n be_v it_o that_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v receive_v so_o much_o rest_n from_o christ_n yet_o shall_v be_v a_o troublesome_a man_n or_o woman_n to_o his_o brother_n or_o sister_n christ_n do_v therefore_o give_v rest_n to_o thou_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v of_o a_o quiet_a disposition_n towards_o other_o that_o thou_o may_v be_v pitiful_a towards_o other_o to_o see_v one_o that_o profess_v to_o have_v deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n and_o to_o have_v rest_n in_o christ_n to_o be_v rigorous_a to_o those_o under_o he_o rigorous_a to_o his_o servant_n rigorous_a to_o his_o child_n it_o be_v miserable_a remember_v what_o rigour_n christ_n have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o and_o remember_v to_o be_v quiet_a spirit_v to_o thy_o brother_n hence_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o next_o word_n to_o my_o text_n learn_v of_o i_o for_o i_o be_o meek_a and_o lowly_a in_o heart_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n unto_o your_o soul_n i_o will_v give_v rest_n to_o your_o soul_n that_o so_o you_o may_v be_v of_o a_o meek_a and_o quiet_a disposition_n towards_o your_o brethren_n but_o of_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o those_o word_n that_o follow_v we_o shall_v then_o speak_v of_o the_o weakness_n and_o quietness_n of_o spirit_n that_o shall_v be_v in_o christian_n now_o these_o thing_n be_v necessary_o the_o consequence_n that_o do_v follow_v upon_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o law_n many_o other_o thing_n may_v be_v raise_v but_o because_o they_o be_v but_o consequence_n of_o what_o have_v be_v deliver_v i_o resolve_v not_o to_o be_v large_a upon_o they_o chap._n 33._o of_o the_o rest_n from_o legal_a performance_n and_o the_o several_a way_n how_o this_o rest_n come_v from_o christ_n viz._n duty_n be_v delightful_a to_o the_o soul_n because_o christ_n render_v god_n unto_o the_o soul_n in_o a_o gracious_a way_n 2._o they_o be_v not_o perform_v as_o satisfactory_a but_o as_o testimony_n of_o love_n and_o thankfulness_n 3_o christ_n himself_o offer_v up_o the_o duty_n to_o god_n 4._o they_o be_v perform_v from_o the_o law_n in_o the_o heart_n 5._o they_o have_v the_o promise_v join_v with_o they_o now_o to_o make_v some_o entrance_n into_o the_o next_o thing_n which_o have_v great_a affinity_n to_o the_o other_o and_o that_o be_v the_o rest_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o trouble_n of_o spirit_n that_o there_o be_v in_o many_o in_o regard_n of_o legal_a performance_n that_o you_o know_v i_o open_v at_o large_a the_o great_a burden_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o many_o people_n who_o have_v convince_v conscience_n and_o there_o conscience_n pull_v and_o hale_v they_o to_o duty_n and_o they_o dare_v not_o but_o perform_v duty_n but_o when_o they_o do_v their_o duty_n their_o very_a duty_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o they_o for_o they_o do_v they_o in_o a_o legal_a way_n there_o be_v many_o i_o know_v that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o this_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o speak_v of_o such_o a_o subject_n but_o that_o there_o be_v divers_a that_o know_v what_o i_o mean_v though_o other_o know_v not_o to_o be_v under_o so_o much_o power_n of_o conscience_n as_o not_o to_o dare_v to_o omit_v a_o duty_n though_o the_o duty_n be_v burdensome_a to_o they_o there_o be_v many_o that_o be_v not_o under_o so_o much_o command_v of_o conscience_n but_o though_o conscience_n require_v they_o to_o do_v such_o a_o duty_n they_o dare_v omit_v the_o duty_n and_o they_o be_v not_o trouble_v at_o it_o but_o but_o there_o be_v other_o who_o have_v not_o feel_v the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o set_v their_o soul_n at_o liberty_n they_o be_v under_o so_o much_o command_v of_o conscience_n that_o they_o dare_v not_o but_o do_v what_o conscience_n require_v and_o yet_o the_o lord_n know_v the_o duty_n that_o they_o have_v perform_v have_v be_v girevous_a burden_n they_o they_o have_v go_v under_o the_o command_n of_o their_o conscience_n as_o under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n now_o to_o these_o christ_n speak_v come_z ro_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n in_o the_o believe_a in_o christ_n in_o the_o exercise_v of_o faith_n in_o christ_n there_o be_v deliverance_n from_o this_o burden_n and_o many_o poor_a soul_n that_o for_o many_o year_n have_v go_v on_o under_o this_o burden_n who_o the_o lord_n have_v open_v to_o they_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n their_o heart_n
unto_o the_o soul_n because_o it_o be_v such_o a_o principle_n as_o turn_v every_o thing_n to_o good_a and_o that_o must_v needs_o bring_v rest_n when_o god_n sanctify_v the_o heart_n work_v grace_n in_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v of_o that_o excellency_n that_o it_o have_v a_o virtue_n and_o efficacy_n in_o it_o to_o turn_v every_o thing_n to_o good_a now_o that_o be_v indeed_o a_o precious_a stone_n that_o can_v turn_v every_o thing_n into_o gold_n that_o it_o touch_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o labour_n there_o be_v about_o the_o philosopher_n stone_n that_o they_o say_v turn_v other_o metal_n into_o gold_n now_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n turn_v every_o thing_n into_o gold_n as_o it_o be_v ever_o thing_n into_o good_a it_o have_v that_o excellency_n in_o it_o that_o whatsoever_o befall_v such_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n grace_n can_v turn_v it_o to_o the_o good_a of_o they_o all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n providence_n all_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o go_v never_o so_o contrary_a unto_o the_o good_a of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o have_v grace_n if_o such_o a_o one_o do_v but_o act_v his_o grace_n or_o her_o grace_n this_o will_v turn_v thing_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v most_o contrary_a to_o the_o good_a of_o they_o it_o will_v turn_v it_o unto_o good_a those_o thing_n that_o other_o vex_v at_o and_o fret_v at_o and_o think_v themselves_o undo_v by_o a_o gracious_a heart_n one_o that_o have_v grace_n can_v turn_v they_o to_o advantage_n and_o get_v good_a by_o they_o such_o a_o one_o that_o be_v in_o such_o a_o condition_n they_o have_v get_v such_o a_o virtue_n from_o god_n god_n have_v give_v they_o such_o a_o principle_n within_o as_o whatsoever_o befall_v they_o he_o can_v by_o the_o act_n of_o that_o principle_n turn_v it_o to_o good_n what_o need_v then_o such_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v any_o trouble_n in_o this_o world_n no_o trouble_n will_v you_o say_v do_v not_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n fall_v cross_a to_o they_o such_o and_o such_o affliction_n fall_v as_o cross_v to_o such_o man_n as_o any_o other_o that_o be_v true_a thing_n may_v fall_v as_o cross_v to_o they_o as_o any_o i_o but_o they_o have_v a_o principle_n within_o they_o that_o turn_v all_o those_o cross_n and_o affliction_n to_o good_a that_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o unto_o in_o answer_v to_o the_o five_o burden_n of_o outward_a affliction_n but_o only_o to_o show_v it_o now_o in_o the_o rest_n that_o the_o soul_n have_v in_o sanctification_n because_o it_o turn_v all_o thing_n to_o good_a six_o and_o last_o sanctification_n be_v a_o rest_n to_o the_o soul_n because_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o begin_n of_o glory_n it_o be_v but_o the_o begin_n of_o heaven_n and_o we_o be_v in_o heaven_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o rest_n there_o be_v peace_n and_o rest_n in_o heaven_n sanctification_n be_v glorification_n begin_v and_o therefore_o rest_v unto_o the_o soul_n this_o now_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n that_o be_v come_v to_o i_o you_o shall_v have_v power_n over_o your_o corruption_n you_o shall_v have_v grace_n and_o holiness_n that_o shall_v be_v rest_n unto_o your_o soul_n chap._n xxxvii_o show_v that_o sanctification_n be_v only_o in_o christ_n second_o that_o this_o sanctification_n it_o be_v in_o christ_n all_o the_o sanctification_n of_o a_o christian_a it_o be_v in_o christ_n there_o be_v some_o child_n their_o heart_n be_v more_o incline_v unto_o some_o sin_n than_o other_o and_o at_o sometime_o to_o some_o particular_a sin_n more_o than_o other_o it_o may_v be_v one_o labour_n under_o the_o at_o one_o sprig_n and_o one_o branch_n and_o another_o branch_n the_o tree_n may_v stand_v long_o enough_o for_o all_o that_o but_o now_o if_o he_o will_v get_v the_o tree_n down_o he_o go_v to_o the_o root_n and_o a_o few_o blow_n get_v down_o all_o there_o so_o this_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o a_o christian_a that_o when_o he_o come_v to_o labour_v against_o any_o corruption_n he_o do_v not_o spend_v his_o time_n so_o much_o against_o this_o or_o that_o particular_a corruption_n but_o strike_v at_o the_o body_n of_o corruption_n and_o how_o get_v he_o strength_n against_o that_o by_o apply_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n the_o death_n of_o christ_n by_o faith_n against_o that_o and_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o body_n of_o death_n come_v to_o be_v destroy_v and_o here_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o christian_n in_o a_o little_a time_n grow_v so_o much_o and_o get_v so_o much_o power_n against_o their_o corruption_n whereas_o other_o be_v a_o long_a time_n before_o they_o get_v any_o power_n at_o all_o those_o that_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o way_n of_o christ_n you_o shall_v have_v one_o that_o have_v be_v a_o notorious_a wretch_n a_o wicked_a person_n a_o the_o great_a breach_n between_o it_o and_o god_n by_o reason_n of_o sin_n second_o in_o he_o it_o see_v the_o great_a hatred_n of_o sin_n in_o god_n first_o in_o christ_n there_o the_o foul_a see_v the_o great_a breach_n that_o can_v be_v imagine_v that_o sin_n make_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n it_o be_v true_a when_o we_o preach_v the_o law_n to_o you_o and_o tell_v you_o of_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n that_o be_v due_a to_o sin_n this_o acquaint_v you_o with_o somewhat_o of_o the_o breach_n that_o sin_n make_v between_o god_n and_o you_o and_o this_o may_v terrify_v you_o then_o when_o it_o come_v to_o christ_n and_o see_v christ_n indeed_o see_v christ_n so_o as_o one_o that_o have_v union_n with_o he_o than_o it_o understand_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n after_o another_o manner_n then_o ever_o it_o do_v before_o and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o faith_n do_v more_o purge_v the_o heart_n from_o sin_n than_o all_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n possible_o can_v do_v yea_o if_o god_n shall_v let_v a_o crevice_n into_o hell_n and_o let_v you_o see_v into_o all_o the_o torment_n that_o be_v there_o they_o can_v not_o discover_v so_o much_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n in_o christ_n be_v this_o the_o infinite_a hatred_n of_o sin_n in_o god_n that_o god_n shall_v so_o infinite_o hate_v sin_n that_o he_o will_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n this_o show_v the_o evil_a of_o sin_n we_o hear_v much_o of_o hell_n and_o of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n now_o when_o i_o come_v to_o consider_v the_o fruit_n of_o god_n hatred_n of_o sin_n show_v the_o infinite_a holiness_n of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v send_v his_o only_a son_n to_o purchase_v holiness_n and_o in_o this_o we_o see_v the_o infinite_a love_n of_o christ_n to_o die_v for_o sin_n the_o infinite_a price_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o purchase_v it_o and_o the_o infinite_a difficulty_n in_o the_o deliverance_n from_o sin_n and_o nothing_o can_v prevail_v upon_o the_o heart_n more_o than_o the_o view_n of_o christ_n there_o be_v so_o many_o thing_n that_o i_o can_v speak_v of_o they_o that_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o christ_n make_v the_o soul_n hate_v sin_n snap_v they_o asunder_o like_o flax_n i_o but_o say_v god_n i_o will_v send_v my_o son_n and_o reveal_v the_o glorious_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o my_o son_n i_o will_v show_v to_o their_o the_o father_n and_o never_o come_v to_o any_o but_o to_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o work_n of_o sanctification_n there_o be_v some_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n that_o the_o heathen_n have_v but_o for_o this_o gift_n of_o true_a holiness_n it_o be_v only_o in_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n do_v come_v into_o last_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n by_o his_o kingly_a power_n sway_v his_o sceptre_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o rule_v there_o subdue_a our_o lust_n as_o a_o king_n subdue_v rebel_n and_o walk_v and_o govern_v the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n christ_n do_v exercise_v a_o kingly_a power_n when_o any_o soul_n do_v believe_v when_o christ_n come_v into_o any_o heart_n he_o come_v into_o the_o heart_n to_o son_n to_o supply_v all_o grace_n and_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n he_o find_v strength_n against_o his_o corruption_n so_o that_o he_o be_v able_a very_o comfortable_o to_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n so_o christian_n that_o understand_v the_o way_n the_o gospel_n will_v find_v abundance_n of_o power_n against_o their_o corruption_n more_o than_o they_o do_v with_o all_o their_o strive_v and_o pain_n take_v before_o though_o we_o shall_v strive_v and_o take_v all_o pain_n we_o can_v yet_o we_o must_v know_v that_o this_o will_v not_o do_v it_o without_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o christ_n for_o the_o help_a of_o we_o against_o our_o corruption_n four_o from_o hence_o follow_v also_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a any_o shall_v be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n but_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v holy_a because_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n christ_n be_v fill_v full_o of_o holiness_n that_o holiness_n may_v be_v convey_v to_o his_o member_n therefore_o those_o that_o have_v yet_o their_o lust_n in_o the_o strength_n of_o they_o that_o have_v not_o the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n in_o some_o measure_n sure_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n be_v not_o in_o they_o these_o can_v stand_v together_o to_o be_v a_o member_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o to_o walk_v in_o filthiness_n these_o can_v stand_v together_o for_o christ_n be_v the_o great_a prophet_n that_o teach_v and_o the_o great_a king_n of_o his_o church_n to_o govern_v and_o certain_o whatsoever_o be_v bring_v to_o he_o must_v be_v teach_v of_o he_o and_o govern_v by_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o have_v communion_n with_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o holiness_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o to_o live_v under_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n this_o can_v be_v v._o from_o hence_o follow_v likewise_o that_o for_o any_o to_o be_v hinder_v in_o their_o come_n to_o christ_n because_o they_o have_v not_o that_o measure_n of_o holiness_n that_o they_o desire_v this_o be_v a_o great_a temptation_n for_o any_o soul_n that_o see_v the_o want_n of_o grace_n the_o want_n of_o sanctification_n and_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n for_o any_o such_o soul_n to_o be_v hinder_v in_o the_o come_n of_o it_o unto_o christ_n because_o it_o have_v not_o what_o grace_n it_o do_v desire_v this_o be_v a_o very_a strong_a and_o a_o dangerous_a temptation_n of_o the_o devil_n which_o we_o be_v to_o take_v heed_n of_o it_o be_v a_o most_o irrational_a temptation_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v that_o that_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v trouble_v withal_o they_o think_v thus_o when_o we_o exhort_v they_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n alas_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v poor_a creature_n i_o be_o so_o vild_a i_o have_v such_o a_o wicked_a and_o sinful_a heart_n how_o shall_v i_o come_v to_o he_o be_v i_o thus_o and_o thus_o have_v i_o power_n over_o my_o corruption_n as_o other_o have_v than_o i_o can_v be_v bold_a to_o come_v to_o christ_n now_o deliver_v from_o hell_n by_o he_o but_o you_o must_v understand_v he_o to_o be_v sanctification_n to_o you_o also_o you_o must_v trust_v in_o christ_n to_o sanctify_v you_o as_o well_o as_o save_v you_o if_o you_o understand_v christ_n aright_o you_o must_v understand_v he_o to_o be_v a_o sanctifier_n as_o well_o as_o a_o saviour_n &_o if_o thou_o believe_v in_o christ_n aright_o thou_o believe_v in_o christ_n as_o a_o sanctifier_n as_o well_o as_o a_o saviour_n &_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o conseqence_n that_o follow_v from_o the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n in_o christ_n chap._n xlii_o contain_v a_o exhortation_n to_o come_v to_o christ_n wherein_o three_o hindrance_n be_v remove_v and_o six_o encouragment_n lay_v down_o first_o the_o union_n between_o christ_n and_o a_o holiness_n be_v scant_o if_o you_o have_v exercise_v your_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o you_o may_v have_v holiness_n than_o you_o may_v have_v have_v more_o peace_n say_v christ_n be_v it_o unto_o thou_o according_a to_o thy_o faith_n so_o in_o this_o case_n christ_n say_v to_o every_o believer_n be_v it_o according_a to_o thy_o faith_n according_a to_o what_o you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n so_o be_v it_o unto_o you_o as_o do_v you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n for_o peace_n and_o comfort_n and_o main_o for_o that_o you_o have_v some_o peace_n and_o comfort_n but_o you_o shall_v not_o have_v so_o much_o holiness_n but_o do_v you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n for_o holiness_n most_o then_o you_o shall_v have_v most_o holiness_n now_o certain_o a_o true_a christian_n prize_v holiness_n rather_o than_o peace_n and_o i_o know_v no_o sure_a argument_n for_o the_o truth_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o difference_n between_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o one_o that_o have_v true_a grace_n than_o this_o the_o hypocrite_n will_v have_v holiness_n that_o he_o may_v have_v peace_n i_o but_o the_o true_a believer_n will_v have_v peace_n that_o his_o peace_n may_v increase_v his_o holiness_n to_o christ_n for_o new_a supply_n as_o if_o we_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o give_v we_o before_o and_o christ_n will_v be_v well_o please_v with_o this_o that_o though_o we_o have_v never_o so_o much_o grace_n yet_o to_o go_v to_o he_o to_o renew_v our_o faith_n as_o if_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o that_o iâ—_n as_o strong_o i_o do_v not_o mean_v that_o we_o shall_v apprehend_v that_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o but_o as_o strong_o and_o eager_o to_o exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n for_o new_a supply_n of_o holiness_n as_o if_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o and_o indeed_o those_o that_o seem_v to_o have_v none_o exercise_n faith_n in_o christ_n most_o three_o for_o conclusion_n of_o all_o take_v this_o as_o a_o rule_n those_o christian_n that_o do_v most_o converse_v with_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o bless_a way_n of_o the_o gospel_n those_o will_v increase_v most_o in_o grace_n and_o they_o have_v this_o by_o way_n of_o sanctification_n i_o will_v give_v you_o but_o only_o that_o one_o scripture_n in_o way_n of_o allusion_n to_o apply_v it_o to_o this_o in_o act_n 4_o 13._o now_o when_o they_o see_v the_o boldness_n of_o peter_n and_o john_n and_o perceive_v you_o see_v any_o christian_a that_o perhaps_o his_o natural_a part_n may_v be_v but_o weak_a but_o yet_o you_o see_v he_o grow_v in_o grace_n mighty_o he_o have_v a_o mighty_a large_a heart_n for_o god_n and_o have_v much_o spirit_n in_o prayer_n and_o his_o conversation_n be_v very_o holy_a and_o convince_a you_o may_v conclude_v this_o man_n and_o this_o woman_n to_o have_v be_v with_o jesus_n christ_n that_o be_v converse_v much_o with_o jesus_n christ_n will_v you_o know_v whence_o it_o be_v that_o you_o see_v many_o poor_a christian_n not_o long_o since_o how_o they_o have_v grow_v in_o holiness_n and_o you_o think_v they_o have_v get_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o you_o have_v get_v they_o can_v depend_v upon_o god_n more_o and_o can_v rejoice_v in_o tribulation_n more_o and_o they_o have_v more_o spiritualness_n and_o more_o savour_n in_o their_o conversation_n and_o find_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o sweetness_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n than_o you_o whence_o be_v it_o their_o mean_n perhaps_o be_v not_o more_o their_o outward_a mean_n their_o part_n in_o nature_n be_v not_o more_o whence_o grow_v it_o then_o will_v you_o know_v whence_o they_o have_v be_v with_o jesus_n they_o converse_v much_o with_o christ_n and_o you_o may_v have_v it_o too_o the_o reason_n why_o you_o have_v be_v a_o professor_n perhaps_o twenty_o or_o thirty_o year_n and_o you_o now_o grow_v old_a and_o yet_o perhaps_o weak_a still_o and_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o can_v be_v say_v of_o you_o that_o there_o be_v some_o hope_n that_o there_o be_v some_o good_a in_o you_o but_o the_o law_n require_v yet_o i_o may_v do_v some_o outward_a performance_n now_o for_o i_o to_o go_v about_o such_o a_o work_n to_o endeavour_v and_o strive_v to_o do_v all_o the_o work_n that_o the_o law_n require_v not_o only_o the_o outward_a part_n but_o the_o will_v work_v and_o to_o be_v put_v upon_o to_o struggle_v and_o strive_v to_o do_v that_o which_o i_o have_v no_o inward_a principle_n to_o do_v that_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a all_o motion_n of_o nature_n that_o be_v from_o a_o external_a principle_n be_v violent_a and_o so_o tedious_a heavy_a and_o troublesome_a so_o this_o motion_n to_o duty_n that_o come_v not_o from_o a_o inward_a principle_n of_o heart_n but_o be_v mere_o legal_a conscience_n stand_v to_o put_v the_o soul_n upon_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o put_v any_o principle_n into_o the_o soul_n to_o do_v it_o this_o be_v a_o violent_a motion_n and_o those_o that_o have_v the_o experience_n of_o this_o find_v it_o tedious_a heavy_a and_o troublesome_a now_o here_o lie_v the_o burden_n for_o it_o be_v not_o according_a to_o those_o vain_a conceit_n of_o man_n that_o the_o duty_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v do_v because_o they_o have_v no_o inward_a
