applicable_a to_o the_o quaker_n case_n who_o have_v refuse_v to_o pay_v church_n duty_n the_o man_n seem_v herein_o wilful_o to_o shut_v his_o eye_n for_o the_o say_a order_n be_v very_o plain_a for_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n and_o freedom_n from_o the_o imposition_n of_o oath_n unto_o those_o inhabitant_n who_o refuse_v the_o take_v the_o accustomed_a oath_n and_o who_o instead_o thereof_o proffer_v as_o the_o quaker_n do_v that_o their_o yea_o shall_v stand_v instead_o of_o a_o oath_n and_o the_o transgressor_n thereof_o be_v punish_v as_o perjure_a person_n which_o with_o the_o advice_n of_o the_o governor_n and_o council_n of_o zealand_n be_v according_o ordain_v and_o confirm_v that_o this_o peoples_n yea_o aforesaid_a shall_v stand_v instead_o of_o a_o oath_n before_o the_o magistrate_n of_o the_o say_a city_n a_o noble_a precedent_n to_o our_o purpose_n obj._n but_o the_o quaker_n have_v refuse_v to_o pay_v church-duty_n and_o thereby_o rob_v the_o the_o priest_n oh_o hard_a man_n and_o unjust_a judge_n that_o respect_v more_o the_o pope_n yoke_n and_o antichristian_a imposition_n than_o the_o life_n or_o liberty_n of_o protestant_a subject_n and_o true_a christian_n and_o his_o imply_v a_o indulgence_n for_o we_o if_o we_o do_v not_o refuse_v to_o pay_v the_o priest_n tithe_n be_v like_a as_o to_o tell_v we_o we_o may_v have_v the_o liberty_n of_o our_o conscience_n if_o we_o will_v be_v conformable_a oh_o generous_a indulgence_n to_o such_o as_o need_v it_o not_o can_v our_o conscience_n serve_v we_o to_o conform_v pay_v tithe_n uphold_v priest_n etc._n etc._n what_o need_v we_o make_v address_n for_o liberty_n his_o charge_n of_o rob_v the_o royal_a exchequer_n be_v envious_a and_o false_a show_v a_o persecute_v spirit_n the_o priest_n â—yth-barns_n be_v not_o the_o royal_a exchequer_n we_o can_v help_v to_o fill_v they_o they_o demand_v tyth_n of_o we_o not_o only_o of_o our_o land_n but_o of_o the_o fruit_n and_o increase_v of_o our_o labour_n and_o industry_n a_o manifest_a extortion_n and_o their_o demand_n of_o they_o be_v as_o minister_n of_o christ_n and_o on_o a_o religious_a account_n as_o claim_v a_o divine_a right_n in_o neither_o of_o which_o be_v we_o satisfy_v nor_o can_v we_o own_o either_o and_o we_o have_v reason_n to_o think_v that_o the_o king_n be_v more_o merciful_a to_o they_o about_o the_o first_o fruit_n than_o they_o be_v to_o we_o and_o do_v not_o so_o severe_o prosecute_v or_o strict_o look_v after_o they_o as_o they_o do_v to_o we_o have_v cause_v many_o deep_o to_o suffer_v both_o in_o person_n and_o estate_n and_o make_v grievous_a havoc_n by_o take_v away_o and_o spoil_v man_n good_n drive_v away_o their_o cow_n ox_n etc._n etc._n many_o time_n more_o than_o the_o value_n of_o the_o tuthe_n beside_o the_o sweep_a away_o household_n good_n and_o expose_v many_o poor_a industrious_a family_n to_o ruin_n as_o also_o the_o many_o long_a &_o tedious_a imprisonment_n which_o they_o have_v cause_v many_o to_o suffer_v in_o till_o death_n but_o when_o have_v we_o refuse_v to_o pay_v our_o civil-duty_n or_o tax_n be_v in_o a_o capacity_n that_o be_v out_o of_o bond_n and_o suffering_n which_o have_v disable_v many_o and_o if_o the_o king_n and_o great_a council_n of_o the_o nation_n be_v please_v to_o repeal_v those_o old_a law_n enforce_v the_o payment_n of_o tithe_n and_o to_o convert_v they_o into_o some_o necessary_a civil_a use_n as_o for_o the_o poor_a or_o some_o national_a service_n and_o benefit_n it_o will_v appear_v whether_o we_o shall_v not_o pay_v our_o part_n and_o whether_o the_o royal_a exchequer_n will_v not_o be_v convenient_o supply_v without_o the_o ten_o from_o the_o priest_n as_o for_o our_o desire_n of_o be_v exempt_v from_o take_v a_o oath_n because_o our_o conscience_n will_v not_o allow_v we_o to_o swear_v to_o this_o our_o adversary_n add_v viz._n when_o you_o actual_o do_v swear_v in_o as_o solemn_a &_o august_a a_o form_n as_o its_o possible_a for_o the_o tongue_n of_o man_n to_o express_v even_o then_o when_o you_o say_v you_o dare_v not_o swear_v god_n who_o be_v the_o searcher_n of_o heart_n know_v that_o it_o be_v with_o a_o holy_a respect_n to_o the_o reputation_n of_o christianity_n the_o evangelical_n dispensation_n and_o to_o christ_n express_a prohibition_n etc._n etc._n this_o person_n have_v give_v we_o various_a definition_n of_o a_o oath_n of_o which_o he_o reckon_v that_o to_o say_v god_n who_o be_v the_o searcher_n of_o heart_n know_v be_v a_o most_o solemn_a &_o august_a form_n of_o swear_v but_o sure_o he_o egregious_o miss_v in_o this_o for_o at_o this_o rate_n of_o define_v a_o solemn_a form_n of_o a_o oath_n we_o shall_v scarce_o know_v how_o to_o mention_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o any_o serious_a or_o solemn_a way_n either_o in_o prayer_n thanksgiving_n appeal_v to_o he_o either_o as_o witness_v for_o we_o or_o single_o as_o desire_v that_o the_o truth_n may_v be_v discover_v in_o any_o case_n but_o this_o must_v all_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o a_o most_o solemn_a and_o august_a form_n
