and_o draw_v they_o out_o and_o put_v they_o in_o another_o way_n so_o that_o they_o be_v man_n of_o wonder_n in_o the_o world_n their_o way_n be_v of_o another_o fashion_n and_o this_o declare_v they_o to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o high_a god_n he_o own_v they_o only_o upon_o this_o condition_n as_o you_o may_v see_v 2_o cor._n 6.17_o 18._o come_v out_o say_v god_n and_o be_v you_o make_v the_o world_n believe_v that_o he_o be_v a_o ill_a master_n that_o there_o be_v better_a wage_n and_o more_o content_a and_o satisfaction_n to_o be_v have_v in_o the_o service_n of_o sin_n then_o the_o service_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o great_a dishonour_n to_o he_o and_o yet_o how_o many_o be_v there_o in_o these_o latter_a time_n who_o bring_v disparagement_n to_o jesus_n christ_n by_o this_o mean_n and_o make_v his_o service_n despicable_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o other_o how_o many_o have_v withdraw_v from_o jesus_n christ_n of_o late_a give_v over_o wait_v on_o his_o holy_a ordinance_n and_o leave_v perform_v of_o those_o duty_n to_o he_o which_o they_o be_v wont_v exact_o and_o constant_o and_o due_o to_o discharge_v they_o talk_v of_o christian_a liberty_n and_o this_o they_o take_v to_o be_v from_o the_o service_n of_o christ_n whereas_o it_o be_v indeed_o from_o the_o service_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o they_o be_v more_o loose_a and_o careless_a and_o remiss_a and_o negligent_a than_o they_o have_v be_v in_o former_a time_n these_o man_n disgrace_n christ_n who_o god_n have_v set_v himself_o to_o honour_n and_o so_o they_o cross_v he_o in_o his_o great_a design_n now_o i_o beseech_v you_o think_v upon_o it_o you_o that_o dishonour_n christ_n in_o any_o of_o the_o way_n foremention_v or_o in_o any_o other_o way_n let_v it_o be_v what_o it_o will_v remember_v that_o it_o be_v the_o purpose_n and_o design_n of_o god_n to_o glorify_v his_o son_n christ_n and_o what_o then_o will_v become_v of_o you_o who_o thwart_v with_o he_o who_o seek_v as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o you_o to_o hinder_v he_o from_o execution_n of_o that_o which_o he_o be_v so_o intent_n upon_o will_v he_o take_v it_o at_o your_o hand_n nay_o if_o he_o send_v his_o son_n among_o you_o and_o say_v as_o in_o the_o parable_n luke_n 20.13_o they_o will_v reverence_v my_o son_n and_o you_o upon_o the_o other_o side_n neglect_v he_o and_o contemn_v he_o and_o abase_v he_o he_o fall_v from_o it_o from_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o life_n to_o a_o state_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n but_o now_o god_n have_v invest_v jesus_n christ_n with_o power_n to_o give_v his_o people_n such_o a_o life_n as_o shall_v be_v durable_a as_o shall_v in_o this_o respect_n transcend_v the_o life_n that_o adam_n have_v even_o in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n itself_o that_o he_o knowledge_n of_o this_o name_n who_o come_v behind_o we_o in_o the_o mean_n of_o this_o knowledge_n be_v it_o so_o that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v a_o absolute_a etc._n etc._n then_o let_v we_o satisfy_v use_v 4_o ourselves_o with_o the_o discovery_n he_o have_v make_v and_o let_v we_o not_o attempt_v or_o undertake_v to_o know_v more_o of_o the_o father_n than_o he_o have_v make_v know_v to_o we_o indeed_o if_o jesus_n christ_n have_v fall_v short_a in_o this_o discovery_n it_o be_v but_o reason_n that_o we_o shall_v exceed_v and_o go_v beyond_o it_o if_o he_o have_v not_o tell_v we_o all_o that_o be_v fit_a for_o we_o to_o know_v it_o be_v a_o congruous_a thing_n that_o we_o shall_v strive_v to_o know_v more_o but_o see_v the_o discovery_n he_o have_v make_v be_v so_o complete_a hide_v from_o we_o fain_o we_o will_v see_v his_o face_n when_o christ_n have_v manifest_v but_o his_o backpart_n to_o we_o we_o will_v know_v more_o of_o his_o nature_n of_o his_o counsel_n and_o decree_n the_o order_n of_o they_o the_o measure_n of_o they_o the_o object_n of_o they_o than_o he_o have_v think_v expedient_a to_o reveal_v to_o we_o we_o will_v approach_v too_o nigh_o to_o gaze_v angel_n drop_v from_o heaven_n teach_v we_o any_o other_o doctrine_n he_o must_v not_o be_v believe_v but_o accurse_v to_o the_o law_n and_o to_o the_o testimony_n say_v the_o prophet_n isa_n 8.20_o add_v to_o it_o and_o go_v on_o to_o further_a measure_n and_o degree_n and_o therefore_o let_v it_o be_v our_o labour_n and_o endeavour_v to_o increase_v our_o faith_n in_o this_o particular_a and_o to_o grow_v up_o to_o full_a assurance_n of_o this_o inviolable_a principle_n that_o that_o which_o be_v deliver_v in_o the_o scripture_n be_v very_o the_o word_n of_o god_n now_o that_o you_o may_v know_v this_o for_o certain_a i_o shall_v do_v two_o thing_n first_o i_o shall_v lay_v down_o such_o consideration_n as_o make_v it_o credible_a and_o in_o the_o next_o place_n i_o shall_v show_v you_o what_o you_o be_v to_o do_v that_o it_o may_v be_v certain_a to_o you_o as_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o my_o brethren_n there_o be_v many_o thing_n that_o make_v it_o very_o credible_a that_o whatsoever_o be_v deliver_v in_o or_o from_o the_o srripture_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n i_o shall_v name_v a_o few_o of_o they_o as_o 1._o the_o evident_a accomplishment_n of_o all_o the_o they_o be_v direct_v by_o the_o all-knowing_a and_o omniscient_a god_n 2._o it_o be_v make_v credible_a by_o the_o harmonious_a testimony_n of_o the_o church_n in_o every_o age_n who_o have_v assent_v to_o it_o and_o acknowledge_v and_o receive_v it_o as_o that_o which_o comprehend_v and_o contain_v the_o divine_a and_o holy_a oracle_n of_o god_n himself_o and_o however_o divers_a church_n have_v be_v at_o very_o sharp_a dissension_n about_o divers_a other_o thing_n yet_o herein_o they_o have_v still_o agree_v and_o none_o of_o they_o have_v once_o so_o much_o as_o question_v whether_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n or_o no._n 3._o it_o be_v make_v credible_a by_o the_o almost_o incredible_a consent_n between_o the_o scribe_n and_o penman_n of_o it_o who_o write_v in_o such_o divers_a place_n tongue_n and_o season_n must_v needs_o unreconcileable_o have_v cross_v and_o thwart_v one_o another_o have_v they_o be_v guide_v by_o their_o own_o spirit_n we_o see_v how_o man_n that_o write_v upon_o the_o scripture_n differ_v in_o their_o exposition_n of_o it_o and_o speak_v direct_o one_o against_o another_o how_o more_o will_v the_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n than_o have_v jar_v unless_o they_o have_v be_v all_o direct_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n we_o know_v in_o reason_n man_n will_v far_v more_o easy_o agree_v in_o explicate_a principle_n already_o make_v then_o in_o compose_v those_o principle_n and_o rule_n themselves_o if_o every_o man_n have_v liberty_n to_o frame_v what_o axiom_n he_o think_v good_a himself_o and_o to_o set_v they_o down_o for_o text_n and_o therefore_o certain_o the_o penman_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v guide_v all_o by_o one_o viz._n the_o holy_a ghost_n himself_o who_o lead_v they_o into_o one_o truth_n 4._o it_o be_v make_v credible_a by_o the_o effectual_a and_o mighty_a work_n of_o it_o on_o the_o heart_n and_o soul_n of_o man_n above_o all_o other_o writing_n whatsoever_o for_o however_o it_o be_v carry_v in_o they_o up_o again_o with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a how_o it_o have_v alter_v they_o and_o change_v they_o and_o turn_v they_o clean_o about_o and_o make_v they_o to_o renounce_v their_o pleasure_n and_o delight_n their_o will_n their_o reason_n their_o desire_n yea_o to_o deny_v themselves_o that_o they_o may_v walk_v by_o this_o rule_n 5._o the_o blood_n of_o many_o martyr_n give_v testimony_n to_o the_o scripture_n that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n who_o but_o for_o this_o divine_a and_o save_a truth_n and_o by_o his_o power_n and_o might_n who_o truth_n it_o be_v will_v hardly_o have_v endure_v the_o rage_n and_o fury_n of_o the_o flame_n the_o violence_n of_o the_o tormentor_n we_o read_v indeed_o that_o divers_a heretic_n have_v suffer_v exquisite_a and_o horrid_a torture_n for_o their_o gross_a opinion_n and_o conceit_n as_o we_o have_v many_o instance_n in_o church_n story_n but_o it_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v that_o they_o do_v it_o for_o the_o scripture_n though_o false_o and_o corrupt_o apprehend_v and_o apply_v where_o have_v be_v the_o jew_n or_o turk_n who_o for_o his_o talmud_n or_o his_o koran_n which_o be_v the_o scripture_n they_o receive_v and_o use_v have_v put_v himself_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o tormentor_n these_o and_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o do_v make_v it_o in_o itself_o extreme_o credible_a that_o that_o which_o be_v deliver_v in_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o yet_o they_o may_v not_o so_o take_v hold_v upon_o we_o to_o convince_v we_o notwithstanding_o they_o may_v not_o chase_v our_o scruple_n all_o away_o nor_o clear_v up_o all_o doubt_n unless_o some_o further_a thing_n be_v do_v to_o make_v it_o credit_v by_o we_o and_o to_o make_v we_o know_v for_o certain_a that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o proper_a and_o peculiar_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n the_o self_n same_o spirit_n which_o deliver_v it_o to_o the_o apostle_n and_o the_o prophet_n who_o be_v the_o scribe_n and_o penman_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o make_v they_o know_v that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o they_o deliver_v must_v satisfy_v we_o and_o convince_v we_o also_o that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o we_o receive_v no_o other_o mean_n will_v do_v without_o this_o but_o this_o and_o this_o alone_a will_v do_v it_o this_o be_v a_o absolute_a and_o satisfy_a testimony_n of_o itself_o which_o carry_v all_o before_o it_o and_o put_v the_o matter_n out_o of_o question_n where_o it_o come_v other_o thing_n may_v make_v it_o credible_a but_o this_o and_o this_o alone_a will_v make_v it_o clear_o and_o demonstrative_o sure_a to_o we_o that_o it_o be_v in_o deed_n and_o truth_n the_o word_n of_o god_n now_o if_o you_o ask_v i_o how_o the_o holy_a spirit_n do_v this_o great_a work_n which_o nothing_o else_o beside_o can_v do_v i_o answer_v that_o it_o do_v it_o principal_o two_o way_n first_o by_o remove_v those_o impediment_n which_o hinder_v this_o assurance_n and_o second_o by_o give_v we_o those_o gift_n and_o grace_n which_o make_v we_o able_a to_o receive_v it_o first_o by_o remove_v those_o impediment_n that_o hinder_v this_o assurance_n there_o be_v a_o double_a hindrance_n or_o impediment_n in_o every_o man_n by_o nature_n first_o ignorance_n whereby_o our_o eye_n be_v close_v as_o it_o be_v the_o word_n have_v light_a enough_o my_o brethren_n in_o and_o of_o itself_o to_o show_v itself_o to_o we_o to_o manifest_v itself_o to_o we_o as_o it_o be_v indeed_o but_o we_o be_v blind_a and_o can_v see_v it_o the_o second_o hindrance_n be_v corruption_n by_o mean_n of_o which_o although_o we_o see_v it_o we_o can_v of_o ourselves_o but_o hate_n it_o and_o dislike_v it_o and_o reject_v it_o these_o two_o the_o holy_a spirit_n cure_v and_o remove_v by_o a_o double_a remedy_n the_o first_o illumination_n restore_v our_o decay_a understanding_n to_o some_o degree_n and_o measure_n of_o their_o first_o light_n open_v our_o eye_n that_o we_o may_v see_v the_o wonder_n of_o the_o word_n and_o so_o be_v satisfy_v that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o next_o sanctification_n infuse_v into_o our_o desire_n and_o our_o affection_n some_o degree_n and_o measure_n of_o their_o first_o holiness_n and_o by_o this_o work_n of_o god_n spirit_n open_v the_o eye_n of_o our_o blind_a mind_n that_o we_o may_v understand_v the_o scripture_n and_o see_v those_o admirable_a ray_n and_o beam_n of_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a light_n that_o shine_v in_o they_o and_o also_o rectify_v our_o corrupt_a affection_n that_o we_o may_v love_v they_o and_o embrace_v they_o we_o come_v to_o be_v assure_v that_o the_o scripture_n be_v indeed_o and_o truth_n the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o that_o you_o see_v the_o spirit_n work_v not_o this_o assurance_n in_o we_o by_o add_v any_o thing_n to_o god_n word_n by_o cure_v any_o fail_n or_o defect_n in_o it_o but_o only_o by_o bring_v it_o into_o the_o light_n and_o represent_v it_o unto_o we_o as_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n do_v not_o make_v it_o credible_a for_o it_o be_v so_o in_o itself_o abundant_o beyond_o all_o possibility_n even_o of_o the_o best_a addition_n but_o it_o make_v it_o so_o to_o we_o by_o cure_v and_o remove_v the_o impediment_n and_o supply_v the_o defect_n which_o be_v in_o we_o by_o mean_n of_o which_o we_o can_v apprehend_v it_o as_o it_o be_v and_o i_o mention_v this_o the_o rather_o because_o some_o have_v be_v apt_a to_o say_v of_o late_a the_o word_n without_o the_o spirit_n be_v no_o more_o to_o they_o then_o any_o other_o book_n or_o any_o other_o piece_n of_o writing_n now_o if_o their_o meaning_n be_v to_o blame_v themselves_o in_o this_o and_o to_o import_v that_o their_o corruption_n and_o their_o ignorance_n be_v such_o that_o unless_o the_o spirit_n help_v they_o they_o can_v come_v to_o understand_v it_o or_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o better_a than_o another_o book_n it_o may_v receive_v a_o pretty_a fair_a construction_n but_o if_o their_o intention_n be_v to_o undervalue_v and_o abase_v the_o scripture_n as_o if_o the_o proper_a and_o innate_a and_o real_a worth_n thereof_o depend_v whole_o on_o the_o spirit_n revelation_n it_o be_v a_o horrid_a derogation_n from_o the_o precious_a word_n of_o god_n it_o be_v true_a indeed_o without_o the_o spirit_n it_o may_v be_v no_o more_o to_o we_o then_o any_o other_o book_n such_o be_v the_o darkness_n and_o profaneness_n of_o our_o heart_n but_o yet_o it_o be_v more_o in_o itself_o whether_o the_o spirit_n show_v it_o we_o or_o no._n the_o spirit_n in_o this_o work_n of_o he_o do_v not_o make_v it_o in_o itself_o to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o only_o to_o appear_v so_o it_o make_v no_o alteration_n in_o the_o word_n but_o in_o ourselves_o when_o first_o it_o tell_v we_o and_o assure_v we_o that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n it_o be_v clear_o so_o before_o or_o else_o it_o certify_v we_o of_o a_o falsehood_n and_o untruth_n only_o it_o be_v not_o apprehend_v and_o believe_v to_o be_v so_o this_o be_v indeed_o the_o spirit_n work_v to_o make_v we_o know_v for_o certain_a that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v without_o it_o and_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v attain_v to_o this_o persuasion_n we_o must_v do_v these_o two_o thing_n 1._o we_o must_v cry_v to_o god_n to_o send_v down_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o give_v in_o this_o assurance_n to_o we_o to_o set_v his_o seal_n and_o testimony_n to_o it_o that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o so_o to_o put_v the_o matter_n out_o of_o all_o question_n to_o satisfy_v we_o without_o any_o further_a scruple_n that_o all_o that_o be_v deliver_v in_o it_o be_v of_o god_n 2._o we_o must_v take_v in_o and_o cherish_v all_o the_o light_n that_o from_o the_o spirit_n shine_v upon_o the_o soul_n sometime_o a_o beam_n break_v in_o upon_o we_o on_o a_o sudden_a it_o make_v we_o see_v and_o know_v for_o certain_a that_o it_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o that_o all_o doubt_n be_v banish_v quite_o in_o that_o particular_a but_o we_o neglect_v it_o and_o permit_v our_o thought_n to_o be_v mislead_v to_o other_o thing_n before_o we_o fix_v and_o settle_v upon_o this_o persuasion_n and_o so_o our_o assurance_n fail_v and_o our_o doubt_n return_v again_o the_o spirit_n offer_v clear_a illumination_n and_o conviction_n and_o we_o take_v no_o notice_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v just_a it_o shall_v be_v withdraw_v again_o and_o thus_o far_o of_o our_o saviour_n declaration_n of_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n due_a and_o ready_a entertainment_n of_o the_o word_n which_o he_o deliver_v together_o with_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v
be_v know_v by_o they_o answ_n i_o mean_v as_o yet_o in_o the_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o at_o that_o time_n all_o thing_n which_o he_o hear_v from_o god_n the_o father_n with_o this_o intent_n that_o they_o shall_v hear_v they_o and_o be_v make_v acquaint_v with_o they_o he_o have_v impart_v to_o they_o to_o the_o very_a utmost_a so_o that_o he_o have_v be_v faithful_a in_o the_o business_n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n our_o saviour_n christ_n as_o man_n have_v many_o thing_n reveal_v to_o he_o from_o his_o father_n which_o he_o instill_a not_o into_o his_o disciple_n for_o he_o be_v perfect_a in_o regard_n of_o knowledge_n and_o they_o be_v not_o so_o nor_o can_v be_v so_o in_o this_o world_n but_o whatsoever_o be_v communicate_v to_o he_o as_o the_o mediator_n and_o the_o prophet_n of_o the_o church_n in_o that_o behalf_n and_o for_o the_o information_n and_o behoof_n of_o his_o people_n all_o this_o he_o manifest_v and_o make_v know_v to_o they_o again_o as_o far_o to_o say_v by_o his_o spirit_n afterward_o and_o he_o be_v very_o faithful_a both_o way_n 1._o what_o thing_n he_o be_v to_o say_v to_o his_o apostle_n and_o disciple_n with_o his_o own_o immediate_a voice_n he_o say_v all_o those_o thing_n he_o keep_v nothing_o back_o from_o they_o he_o teach_v they_o lesson_n after_o lesson_n still_o as_o they_o can_v learn_v and_o so_o he_o carry_v they_o along_o as_o long_o as_o he_o remain_v among_o they_o so_o that_o he_o may_v have_v say_v at_o any_o time_n while_o he_o be_v with_o they_o i_o have_v make_v know_v all_o to_o you_o all_o that_o you_o be_v yet_o to_o know_v and_o whereas_o he_o affirm_v in_o the_o cite_a place_n i_o have_v yet_o many_o thing_n to_o say_v to_o you_o if_o they_o be_v such_o as_o he_o be_v himself_o to_o speak_v to_o spirit_n of_o division_n which_o reign_v too_o much_o abroad_o in_o these_o time_n but_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o how_o may_v we_o attain_v this_o and_o what_o be_v we_o to_o do_v that_o we_o may_v my_o brethren_n he_o receive_v not_o the_o spirit_n by_o measure_n from_o the_o father_n as_o the_o evangelist_n observe_v john_n 4.32_o but_o beyond_o all_o measure_n but_o now_o the_o minister_n infallible_a success_n they_o can_v preach_v only_o to_o the_o ear_n and_o to_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o hence_o they_o often_o fail_v of_o the_o desire_a issue_n they_o spend_v their_o strength_n in_o vain_a as_o the_o prophet_n once_o complain_v indeed_o the_o efficacy_n of_o their_o preach_n depend_v whole_o on_o the_o work_n and_o power_n of_o christ_n so_o that_o you_o see_v he_o be_v transcendent_o above_o they_o in_o the_o same_o business_n and_o then_o beside_o jesus_n christ_n be_v send_v on_o business_n which_o they_o be_v not_o to_o touch_v with_o he_o be_v send_v about_o the_o work_n of_o man_n redemption_n of_o satisfaction_n to_o the_o justice_n of_o his_o father_n by_o his_o bitter_a death_n and_o passion_n which_o be_v too_o heavy_a and_o too_o hard_o for_o any_o man_n or_o angel_n to_o go_v through_o with_o or_o to_o have_v a_o hand_n in_o there_o be_v a_o great_a similitude_n between_o the_o father_n send_v etc._n etc._n in_o relation_n to_o the_o end_n that_o both_o of_o they_o be_v send_v for_o christ_n send_v his_o minister_n into_o the_o world_n for_o the_o very_a same_o end_n that_o god_n the_o father_n send_v he_o for_o why_o do_v god_n the_o of_o his_o merit_n and_o his_o spirit_n to_o they_o in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o father_n send_v the_o son_n to_o save_v they_o by_o die_v for_o they_o the_o son_n send_v his_o similitude_n between_o the_o father_n send_v etc._n etc._n here_o then_o my_o brethren_n be_v a_o perfect_a pattern_n for_o all_o the_o minister_n of_o jesus_n christ_n they_o must_v look_v on_o he_o that_o send_v they_o and_o see_v what_o power_n he_o be_v endue_v withal_o what_o errand_n he_o be_v send_v on_o and_o for_o what_o end_n and_o so_o act_v according_o as_o god_n invest_v he_o with_o power_n and_o send_v he_o into_o the_o world_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n and_o to_o save_v his_o people_n so_o jesus_n christ_n have_v invest_v they_o with_o power_n to_o do_v the_o same_o thing_n for_o the_o same_o end_n so_o that_o they_o must_v not_o aim_v at_o the_o destruction_n and_o the_o harden_v of_o the_o people_n no_o they_o must_v make_v this_o their_o business_n how_o they_o may_v bring_v about_o their_o conversion_n and_o salvation_n it_o be_v true_a they_o must_v be_v son_n of_o thunder_n now_o and_o then_o as_o well_o as_o son_n of_o consolation_n they_o must_v preach_v the_o law_n sometime_o as_o well_o as_o the_o sweet_a comfort_n of_o the_o gospel_n they_o must_v threaten_v man_n sometime_o with_o wrath_n and_o hell_n and_o eternal_a condemnation_n but_o then_o they_o must_v not_o do_v it_o so_o as_o wish_v that_o these_o thing_n may_v come_v upon_o they_o but_o rather_o that_o they_o may_v avoid_v they_o they_o must_v threaten_v they_o with_o wrath_n that_o they_o may_v flee_v from_o the_o wrath_n to_o come_v and_o threaten_v with_o hell_n that_o they_o may_v escape_v the_o damnation_n of_o hell_n they_o must_v preach_v the_o law_n with_o gospel_n purpose_n and_o evangelical_n intention_n they_o must_v send_v out_o the_o avenger_n of_o blood_n to_o dog_v they_o at_o the_o heel_n that_o they_o may_v fly_v to_o the_o city_n of_o refuge_n they_o must_v use_v sharpness_n now_o and_o then_o it_o can_v be_v avoid_v but_o it_o must_v be_v for_o the_o same_o end_n that_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o 2_o cor._n 13.10_o where_o have_v mind_v the_o corinthian_n that_o in_o case_n he_o must_v use_v sharpness_n according_a to_o the_o power_n the_o lord_n have_v give_v he_o he_o have_v authority_n from_o christ_n to_o do_v it_o but_o mark_v in_o earth_n and_o have_v put_v a_o part_n of_o that_o power_n and_o authority_n of_o he_o on_o his_o apostle_n have_v send_v they_o as_o his_o father_n send_v he_o he_o do_v not_o say_v to_o they_o as_o god_n do_v to_o the_o prophet_n jer._n 1.10_o i_o have_v set_v you_o over_o the_o nation_n and_o over_o the_o kingdom_n to_o root_v out_o and_o to_o destroy_v but_o i_o have_v send_v you_o to_o the_o nation_n to_o teach_v they_o and_o to_o baptize_v they_o that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v he_o do_v not_o make_v they_o rooter_n but_o planter_n he_o do_v not_o bid_v they_o to_o go_v out_o and_o church-censure_n our_o aim_n be_v that_o their_o corruption_n may_v be_v mortify_v and_o that_o their_o spirit_n may_v be_v save_v by_o this_o mean_n and_o all_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n ought_v to_o have_v this_o continual_o in_o their_o eye_n how_o they_o may_v reach_v this_o great_a end_n they_o must_v remember_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v send_v they_o as_o god_n the_o father_n send_v he_o and_o that_o be_v not_o to_o condemn_v the_o world_n but_o that_o the_o world_n by_o he_o may_v be_v save_v and_o thus_o of_o the_o first_o argument_n with_o which_o our_o saviour_n press_v and_o enforce_v his_o petition_n to_o his_o father_n in_o behalf_n of_o his_o apostle_n for_o sanctification_n which_o have_v be_v take_v from_o the_o business_n and_o employment_n that_o he_o be_v set_v they_o about_o viz_o the_o very_a same_o in_o some_o respect_n which_o he_o himself_o have_v hitherto_o sustain_v and_o undergo_v by_o the_o appointment_n of_o the_o father_n sanctify_v they_o with_o thy_o truth_n thy_o word_n be_v truth_n why_o may_v the_o father_n answer_n why_o so_o cause_n enough_o say_v jesus_n christ_n for_o as_o thou_o have_v send_v i_o into_o the_o world_n even_o so_o have_v i_o also_o send_v they_o into_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o thou_o have_v need_v to_o sanctify_v they_o that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v fit_v and_o enable_v for_o such_o a_o service_n as_o truth_n the_o difficulty_n of_o the_o text_n lie_v especial_o in_o this_o how_o christ_n be_v say_v to_o sanctify_v himself_o and_o what_o he_o mean_v by_o that_o expression_n for_o their_o sake_n i_o god_n that_o bring_v again_o from_o the_o dead_a the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n why_o he_o be_v the_o god_n too_o that_o will_v sure_o bring_v again_o from_o the_o dead_a all_o true_a believer_n as_o believer_n so_o i_o may_v say_v as_o well_o god_n be_v in_o christ_n unite_n the_o world_n the_o same_o world_n of_o believer_n to_o himself_o original_o they_o be_v disjoint_v and_o divide_v each_o from_o other_o and_o which_o be_v worst_a of_o all_o from_o god_n but_o down_o come_v christ_n and_o dwell_v in_o all_o of_o they_o together_o and_o down_o come_v god_n and_o dwell_v in_o christ_n that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v all_o one_o i_o in_o they_o and_o thou_o in_o i_o that_o they_o may_v be_v perfect_a in_o one_o not_o only_o that_o they_o may_v be_v one_o but_o that_o they_o may_v be_v in_o our_o prayer_n we_o strive_v most_o for_o spiritual_a thing_n what_o do_v you_o think_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n will_v make_v we_o long_o more_o after_o earth_n and_o earthly_a thing_n than_o christ_n himself_o that_o it_o will_v make_v we_o more_o importunate_a for_o wealth_n than_o grace_n more_o earnest_n after_o temporal_a and_o worldly_a blessing_n then_o after_o those_o spiritual_a blessing_n in_o heavenly_a place_n in_o christ_n jesus_n as_o the_o apostle_n call_v they_o ephes_n 1.3_o be_v it_o a_o likely_a thing_n my_o brethren_n that_o the_o spirit_n shall_v make_v we_o struggle_v more_o for_o bodily_a and_o outward_a thing_n then_o for_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v more_o agreeable_a and_o suitable_a to_o it_o more_o near_o to_o its_o own_o nature_n i_o he_o may_v serve_v god_n with_o they_o that_o he_o may_v promote_v his_o end_n that_o he_o may_v be_v the_o able_a instrument_n to_o help_v his_o church_n to_o support_v his_o people_n to_o advance_v his_o glory_n to_o appear_v for_o his_o cause_n even_o these_o desire_n of_o his_o be_v spiritual_a although_o not_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o at_o least_o for_o the_o end_n of_o they_o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o that_o have_v not_o christ_n spirit_n desire_v these_o outward_a blessing_n that_o he_o may_v consume_v they_o on_o his_o lust_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v jam._n 4.3_o you_o ask_v and_o receive_v not_o because_o you_o ask_v amiss_o that_o you_o may_v consume_v it_o upon_o your_o lust_n that_o you_o may_v make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n with_o it_o and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v oil_n to_o nourish_v and_o to_o feed_v the_o sinful_a flame_n that_o be_v within_o you_o and_o thus_o it_o be_v my_o brethren_n with_o a_o multitude_n that_o they_o may_v plague_v their_o enemy_n and_o pleasure_v those_o that_o be_v observant_a of_o they_o they_o will_v have_v wealth_n and_o riches_n in_o abundance_n that_o they_o may_v swimm_n in_o full_a delight_n and_o fare_v delicious_o every_o day_n agur_n measure_v the_o conveniency_n or_o inconveniency_n of_o his_o outward_a state_n as_o it_o will_v fit_v he_o more_o or_o less_o for_o god_n service_n not_o poverty_n lest_o i_o deny_v thou_o not_o riches_n leave_v i_o forget_v thou_o but_o these_o man_n measure_v it_o by_o nothing_o but_o their_o sensual_a appetite_n and_o so_o their_o prayer_n serve_v their_o lust_n and_o they_o will_v have_v god_n himself_o to_o serve_v they_o too_o if_o they_o can_v prevail_v with_o he_o and_o be_v such_o desire_n as_o these_o like_a to_o be_v raise_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n what_o will_v the_o spirit_n stir_v man_n up_o to_o pray_v for_o any_o thing_n to_o nourish_v and_o maintain_v the_o flesh_n the_o carnal_a part_n which_o be_v the_o spirit_n enemy_n the_o flesh_n lu_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n lu_v against_o the_o flesh_n for_o those_o two_o be_v contrary_a one_o to_o another_o and_o will_v the_o spirit_n notwithstanding_o strive_v for_o that_o which_o shall_v uphold_v and_o feed_v those_o lust_n against_o which_o the_o spirit_n lu_v believe_v it_o brethren_n they_o that_o pray_v for_o
