his_o save_a mercy_n now_o both_o lodge_v in_o this_o his_o son_n to_o pay_v he_o immediate_o all_o homage_n and_o obedience_n and_o through_o he_o ultimate_o to_o himself_o from_o he_o immediate_o to_o expect_v salvation_n and_o blessedness_n and_o through_o he_o ultimate_o from_o himself_o that_o whereas_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n be_v not_o to_o be_v wrought_v to_o this_o temper_n but_o by_o a_o piece_n of_o divine_a royalty_n a_o part_n worthy_a the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o what_o serious_a spirit_n will_v it_o not_o amaze_v to_o weigh_v and_o ponder_v this_o case_n awhile_o to_o see_v man_n excel_v in_o all_o other_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n so_o far_o excel_v by_o those_o they_o most_o contemn_v in_o the_o high_a point_n of_o wisdom_n such_o as_o know_v how_o to_o search_v into_o the_o abstruse_a mystery_n of_o nature_n that_o can_v unravel_v or_o see_v through_o the_o most_o perplex_a intrigue_n of_o state_n that_o know_v how_o to_o save_v their_o own_o stake_n and_o secure_v their_o private_a interest_n in_o whatsoever_o time_n yet_o so_o little_o see_v often_o for_o not_o many_o wise_a in_o the_o matter_n that_o concern_v a_o eternal_a felicity_n it_o put_v i_o in_o mind_n of_o what_o i_o find_v observe_v by_o some_o the_o particular_a madness_n adementia_fw-la quoad_fw-la hoc_fw-la as_o it_o be_v call_v when_o person_n in_o every_o thing_n else_o capable_a of_o sober_a rational_a discourse_n when_o you_o bring_v they_o to_o some_o one_o thing_n that_o in_o reference_n to_o which_o they_o become_v distemper_v at_o first_o they_o rave_v and_o be_v perfect_o mad_a how_o many_o that_o can_v manage_v a_o discourse_n with_o great_a reason_n and_o judgement_n about_o other_o matter_n who_o when_o you_o come_v to_o discourse_v with_o they_o about_o the_o affair_n of_o practical_a godliness_n and_o which_o most_o direct_o tend_v to_o that_o future_a state_n of_o blessedness_n they_o be_v 〈◊〉_d at_o their_o wit_n end_n know_v not_o what_o to_o say_v they_o savour_v not_o those_o thing_n these_o be_v thing_n not_o understand_v but_o by_o such_o to_o who_o it_o be_v give_v and_o sure_o that_o give_v wisdom_n be_v the_o most_o excellent_a wisdom_n sometime_o god_n do_v as_o it_o be_v so_o far_o gratify_v the_o world_n as_o to_o speak_v their_o own_o language_n and_o call_v they_o wise_a that_o affect_v to_o be_v call_v so_o and_o that_o wisdom_n which_o they_o will_v fain_o have_v go_v under_o that_o name_n moses_n it_o be_v say_v be_v skill_v in_o all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o egypt_n 22._o etc._n etc._n but_o at_o other_o time_n he_o express_o call_v those_o wise_a man_n fool_n and_o their_o wisdom_n folly_n and_o madness_n or_o annex_v some_o disgraceful_a adject_n for_o distinction_n sake_n or_o apply_v those_o appellative_n ironical_o and_o in_o manifest_a derision_n no_o doubt_n but_o any_o such_o person_n as_o be_v represent_v in_o the_o parable_n will_v have_v think_v himself_o to_o have_v do_v the_o part_n of_o a_o very_a wise_a man_n in_o entertain_v such_o deliberation_n and_o resolu_v 12._o as_o we_o find_v he_o have_v there_o with_o himself_o how_o strange_a be_v that_o to_o his_o ear_n be_v make_v to_o confound_v their_o wisdom_n and_o indeed_o do_v they_o deserve_v to_o be_v think_v wise_a that_o be_v so_o busy_o intent_n upon_o momentary_a trifle_n and_o trifle_v with_o eternal_a concernment_n that_o prefer_v vanish_v shadow_n to_o the_o everlasting_a glory_n that_o follow_v lie_v vanity_n and_o forsake_v their_o own_o mercy_n yea_o will_v they_o not_o cease_v to_o be_v wise_a in_o their_o own_o eye_n also_o when_o they_o see_v the_o issue_n and_o reap_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o foolish_a choice_n when_o they_o find_v the_o happiness_n they_o prefer_v before_o this_o eternal_a one_o be_v quite_o over_o and_o nothing_o remain_v to_o they_o of_o it_o but_o a_o afflictive_a remembrance_n that_o the_o torment_n they_o be_v tell_v will_v follow_v be_v but_o now_o beginning_n and_o without_o end_n when_o they_o hear_v from_o the_o mouth_n of_o their_o impartial_a judge_n remember_v you_o in_o your_o life_n time_n have_v your_o good_a thing_n and_o my_o to_o you_o to_o use_v your_o consider_a power_n thus_o and_o employ_v it_o even_o about_o these_o thing_n do_v but_o make_v this_o easy_a trial_n and_o then_o say_v whether_o it_o be_v impossible_a see_v if_o you_o can_v select_v one_o hour_n on_o purpose_n wherein_o to_o it_o down_o by_o yourselves_o alone_o with_o this_o resolution_n well_o i_o will_v now_o spend_v this_o hour_n in_o consider_v my_o eternal_a concernment_n when_o you_o have_v obtain_v so_o much_o of_o yourself_o set_v your_o thought_n on_o work_n you_o will_v find_v they_o voluble_a and_o unfixt_v very_o apt_a to_o revolt_v and_o fly_v off_o from_o thing_n you_o have_v no_o mind_n to_o but_o use_v your_o authority_n with_o yourself_o tell_v your_o soul_n or_o let_v it_o tell_v itself_o these_o thing_n concern_v thy_o life_n at_o least_o take_v this_o prepare_a matter_n along_o with_o thou_o that_o â—hou_a may_v not_o have_v this_o pretence_n thou_o know_v not_o what_o to_o think_v of_o try_v if_o thou_o can_v not_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n now_o actual_o suggest_v and_o offer_v to_o thy_o thought_n as_o namely_o consider_v that_o thou_o have_v a_o reasonable_a immortal_a soul_n which_o as_o it_o be_v liable_a to_o eternal_a misery_n â—o_o it_o be_v capable_a of_o eternal_a blessedness_n that_o this_o blessedness_n thou_o do_v understand_v to_o consist_v only_o in_o the_o vision_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n in_o be_v make_v like_o to_o he_o and_o in_o the_o satisfaction_n that_o â—s_v thence_o to_o result_v and_o accrue_v to_o thou_o consider_v what_o thy_o very_a objection_n suppose_v that_o thou_o find_v the_o temper_n of_o thy_o spirit_n to_o be_v altogether_o indispose_v and_o averse_a to_o such_o a_o blessedness_n be_v it_o not_o so_o be_v not_o this_o thy_o very_a case_n feel_v now_o again_o thy_o heart_n try_n be_v it_o not_o at_o least_o cold_o affect_v towards_o this_o bless_a state_n be_v it_o not_o then_o obvious_a to_o thou_o to_o consider_v that_o the_o temper_n of_o thy_o spirit_n must_v be_v change_v or_o thou_o be_v undo_v that_o inasmuch_o as_o thy_o blessedness_n lie_v in_o god_n this_o change_n must_o in_o the_o alteration_n of_o thy_o disposition_n and_o the_o posture_n of_o thy_o spirit_n towards_o he_o further_o can_v thou_o not_o consider_v the_o power_n and_o fixedness_n of_o thy_o aversation_n from_o god_n and_o with_o how_o mighty_a a_o weight_n thy_o heart_n be_v carry_v and_o hold_v down_o from_o he_o try_v lift_v at_o thy_o heart_n see_v if_o it_o will_v be_v raise_v god-ward_o and_o heaven-ward_n do_v thou_o not_o find_v it_o be_v as_o if_o thou_o be_v lift_v at_o a_o mountain_n that_o it_o lie_v as_o a_o dead_a weight_n and_o stir_v not_o ponder_v thy_o case_n in_o this_o respect_n and_o then_o be_v it_o not_o to_o be_v consider_v that_o thy_o time_n be_v pass_v away_o apace_o that_o if_o thou_o let_v thyself_o alone_o it_o be_v likely_a to_o be_v as_o bad_a with_o thou_o to_o morrow_n as_o this_o day_n and_o as_o bid_v next_o day_n as_o to_o morrow_n and_o if_o thy_o time_n expire_v and_o thou_o be_v snatch_v away_o in_o this_o state_n what_o will_v become_v of_o thou_o and_o do_v thou_o not_o be_v there_o a_o sufficient_a present_a pleasure_n in_o thy_o sinful_a distance_n from_o god_n to_o outweigh_v heaven_n and_o hell_n dare_v thou_o venture_v upon_o a_o resolution_n of_o give_v god_n and_o christ_n their_o last_o refusal_n or_o say_v thou_o will_v never_o hearken_v to_o or_o have_v to_o do_v with_o they_o more_o or_o dare_v thou_o venture_v to_o do_v what_o thou_o dare_v not_o resolve_v and_o act_v the_o wickedness_n thou_o can_v not_o think_v of_o scorn_v eternal_a majesty_n and_o love_n spurn_v and_o trample_v a_o bleed_a saviour_n commune_v thus_o awhile_o with_o thyself_o but_o if_o yet_o thou_o find_v thy_o heart_n relent_v nothing_o thou_o can_v yet_o further_o consider_v that_o it_o lie_v not_o in_o thy_o power_n to_o turn_v thy_o own_o heart_n or_o else_o how_o come_v thou_o thus_o to_o object_n and_o hence_o can_v thou_o avoid_v consider_v this_o be_v a_o distress_a case_n that_o thou_o be_v in_o great_a strait_n liable_a to_o perish_v yea_o sure_a to_o do_v so_o if_o thou_o continue_v in_o that_o ill_a temper_n of_o spirit_n and_o whole_o unable_a to_o help_v thyself_o sure_o thou_o can_v not_o but_o see_v this_o to_o be_v a_o most_o distress_a case_n i_o put_v it_o now_o to_o thy_o conscience_n whether_o be_v thus_o lead_v on_o thou_o can_v not_o go_v thus_o far_o see_v whether_o upon_o trial_n thy_o conscience_n give_v thou_o leave_v to_o say_v i_o be_o not_o able_a thus_o to_o do_v or_o think_v and_o be_v not_o here_o so_o foolish_a as_o to_o separate_v the_o action_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n and_o the_o second_o in_o judge_v thy_o ability_n thou_o may_v say_v no_o i_o can_v think_v a_o good_a thought_n without_o god_n true_a so_o i_o know_v thou_o can_v not_o move_v thy_o finger_n without_o god_n but_o my_o meaning_n in_o this_o appeal_n to_o thy_o conscience_n be_v whether_o upon_o trial_n thou_o find_v not_o a_o assistance_n sufficient_a to_o carry_v thou_o thus_o far_o possible_o thou_o will_v say_v yea_o but_o what_o be_o i_o the_o better_a i_o be_o only_o bring_v to_o see_v myself_o in_o a_o dristressed_a perish_v condition_n and_o can_v get_v no_o further_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v well_o thou_o be_v get_v so_o far_o if_o thou_o do_v indeed_o see_v thyself_o perish_v and_o thy_o drowsy_a soul_n awake_v into_o any_o sense_n of_o the_o sadness_n of_o thy_o case_n but_o i_o intend_v not_o thus_o to_o that_o it_o may_v eternal_o rest_v in_o he_o and_o that_o thou_o may_v not_o perish_v after_o so_o much_o do_v in_o order_n to_o thy_o blessedness_n only_o for_o want_v of_o a_o heart_n to_o entertain_v it_o tell_v he_o thou_o come_v upon_o his_o gracious_a encouragement_n have_v hear_v he_o be_v as_o ready_a to_o give_v his_o spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o as_o parent_n bread_n to_o their_o crave_v child_n rather_o than_o a_o stone_n that_o it_o be_v for_o life_n thou_o beg_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o easy_a to_o thou_o to_o think_v of_o perish_v for_o ever_o that_o thou_o can_v not_o desist_v and_o give_v up_o all_o thy_o hope_n that_o thou_o shall_v be_v in_o hell_n short_o if_o he_o hear_v and_o help_v thou_o not_o last_o if_o thus_o thou_o obtain_v any_o communication_n of_o that_o holy_a bless_a spirit_n and_o thou_o find_v it_o gentle_o move_v thy_o dead_a heart_n let_v i_o once_o more_o demand_v of_o thou_o be_v it_o impossible_a to_o forbear_v this_o or_o that_o external_a act_n of_o sin_n at_o this_o time_n when_o thou_o be_v tempt_v to_o it_o sure_o thou_o can_v not_o say_v it_o be_v impossible_a what_o necessitate_v thou_o to_o it_o and_o then_o certain_o thou_o may_v as_o well_o ordinary_o withhold_v thyself_o from_o run_v into_o such_o customary_a sensuality_n as_o tend_v to_o grieve_v the_o spirit_n debauch_n conscience_n this_o and_o so_o increase_v the_o burden_n of_o guilt_n upon_o my_o own_o soul_n and_o by_o endeavour_v to_o better_v my_o case_n make_v it_o far_o worse_o two_o thing_n i_o consider_v that_o suggest_v to_o i_o this_o fear_n the_o manner_n end_v of_o the_o duty_n you_o put_v i_o upon_o as_o they_o will_v be_v do_v by_o i_o in_o the_o case_n wherein_o i_o apprehend_v myself_o yet_o to_o lie_v 1._o manner_n as_o to_o the_o positive_a action_n you_o advise_v to_o i_o have_v hear_v the_o best_a action_n of_o a_o unregenerate_a person_n be_v sin_n through_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o their_o manner_n of_o do_v they_o though_o as_o to_o matter_n of_o the_o thing_n do_v they_o be_v enjoin_v and_o good_a and_o though_o it_o be_v true_a that_o the_o regenerate_v can_v perform_v a_o sinless_a duty_n neither_o yet_o their_o person_n and_o work_v be_v cover_v over_o with_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n be_v look_v upon_o as_o have_v no_o sin_n in_o they_o which_o i_o apprehend_v to_o be_v none_o of_o my_o case_n 2._o end_n you_o put_v i_o upon_o these_o thing_n in_o order_n to_o the_o attain_n of_o blessedness_n and_o to_o do_v such_o thing_n with_o intuition_n to_o a_o reward_n be_v to_o be_v as_o may_v be_v doubt_v unwarrantable_o mercenary_a and_o servile_a 1._o first_o reply_n as_o to_o this_o former_a reason_n of_o your_o doubt_n methinks_v the_o proposal_n of_o it_o answer_v it_o for_o as_o much_o as_o you_o acknowledge_v the_o matter_n of_o these_o action_n to_o be_v good_a and_o duty_n and_o plain_o it_o be_v they_o be_v moral_a duty_n of_o common_a perpetual_a concernment_n to_o all_o person_n and_o time_n dare_v you_o decline_v or_o dispute_v against_o your_o duty_n sure_o if_o we_o compare_v the_o evil_a of_o what_o be_v so_o substantial_o in_o itself_o and_o what_o be_v so_o circumstantial_o only_o by_o the_o adherence_n of_o some_o undue_a modus_fw-la or_o manner_n it_o can_v be_v hard_o to_o determine_v which_o be_v glorious_a excellency_n and_o infinite_a fullness_n which_o two_o act_n of_o faith_n we_o have_v mention_v together_o in_o one_o text_n they_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o promise_n and_o embrace_v
