receive_v the_o sacrament_n your_o soul_n must_v feed_v upon_o jesus_n christ_n bodily_a worship_n without_o soul-worship_n be_v nothing_o but_o soul-worship_n may_v be_v accept_v without_o bodily_a worship_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o soul_n that_o god_n do_v principal_o look_v at_o in_o holy_a duty_n if_o you_o be_v not_o able_a to_o worship_n god_n in_o your_o body_n you_o may_v worship_v he_o in_o your_o soul_n and_o god_n regard_v that_o bodily_a exercise_n in_o holy_a duty_n be_v little_a worth_n somewhat_o it_o may_v be_v worth_a i_o confess_v sometime_o bodily_a exercise_n may_v further_o the_o soul_n as_o a_o reverend_a carriage_n of_o the_o body_n and_o the_o like_a but_o it_o be_v nothing_o in_o comparison_n the_o great_a work_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o must_v be_v worship_v in_o spirit_n and_o god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o spirit_n not_o only_o in_o that_o he_o be_v not_o of_o so_o thick_a a_o corporal_a substance_n but_o it_o note_v the_o simplicity_n of_o god_n he_o be_v without_o any_o composition_n whatsoever_o be_v in_o god_n be_v god_n himself_o he_o be_v absolute_o one_o there_o be_v not_o divers_a thing_n with_o a_o dead_a heart_n and_o with_o a_o dead_a service_n to_o sacrifice_v that_o which_o be_v dead_a before_o it_o come_v it_o be_v like_o a_o carrion_n that_o lie_v dead_a in_o the_o ditch_n oh_o let_v we_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o dead_a heart_n and_o dead_a sacrifice_n it_o it_o a_o live_a god_n that_o i_o be_o worship_v and_o therefore_o i_o must_v pray_v lord_n turn_v away_o my_o eye_n all_o outward_a help_n and_o mean_n fail_v then_o we_o be_v discourage_v we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n but_o we_o rather_o take_v this_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a when_o as_o our_o heart_n be_v discourage_v with_o any_o difficulty_n now_o the_o lord_n expect_v that_o all_o his_o child_n that_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o shall_v worship_v he_o as_o the_o almighty_a god_n and_o so_o have_v their_o heart_n work_v towards_o he_o there_o will_v be_v mighty_a working_n of_o spirit_n towards_o god_n if_o we_o see_v he_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n as_o well_o as_o reason_n 7_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o omniscient_a god_n as_o a_o god_n infinite_o understand_v all_o thing_n now_o what_o do_v this_o call_n for_o first_o if_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o folly_n when_o thou_o come_v to_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o i_o say_v be_v thou_o ashamed_a of_o thy_o folly_n then_o and_o do_v thou_o exercise_v the_o grace_n of_o wisdom_n too_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o wisdom_n when_o thou_o come_v into_o god_n presence_n in_o thy_o great_a strait_n deny_v thy_o own_o wisdom_n come_v with_o a_o resolution_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o this_o manner_n lord_n i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o order_v my_o step_n there_o be_v much_o folly_n and_o vanity_n in_o my_o heart_n but_o thou_o be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n i_o come_v to_o thou_o for_o direction_n and_o i_o profess_v here_o i_o be_o willing_a to_o give_v up_o my_o whole_a soul_n to_o be_v guide_v by_o thy_o wisdom_n if_o every_o time_n we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n not_o so_o bad_a as_o you_o hear_v it_o be_v a_o curse_a comfort_n that_o have_v no_o sure_a bottom_n grant_v that_o respect_n therefore_o to_o the_o word_n 3_o three_o consider_v this_o it_o may_v be_v i_o do_v not_o see_v clear_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o which_o be_v deliver_v i_o do_v not_o see_v enough_o to_o believe_v they_o now_o but_o what_o if_o i_o be_v now_o die_v what_o if_o i_o be_v now_o go_v to_o receive_v the_o sentence_n of_o my_o eternal_a doom_n will_v i_o not_o then_o believe_v these_o thing_n will_v i_o not_o then_o think_v what_o i_o hear_v out_o of_o the_o word_n to_o be_v true_a it_o be_v a_o easy_a matter_n for_o man_n to_o reject_v the_o word_n while_o they_o have_v their_o health_n and_o prosperity_n but_o if_o you_o be_v to_o die_v and_o upon_o what_o a_o case_n be_v thou_o in_o be_o i_o worse_o than_o the_o devil_n themselves_o the_o scripture_n tell_v i_o that_o the_o devil_n believe_v and_o tremble_v why_o lord_n do_v i_o come_v to_o they_o do_v not_o find_v present_a comfort_n by_o it_o their_o spirit_n be_v in_o a_o distemper_n and_o frowardness_n and_o cast_v it_o off_o and_o if_o at_o any_o time_n there_o be_v never_o such_o comfortable_a thing_n speak_v in_o the_o word_n yet_o there_o be_v a_o anger_n in_o their_o spirit_n because_o they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o apply_v the_o word_n to_o themselves_o and_o they_o think_v this_o do_v not_o concern_v i_o now_o there_o shall_v be_v meekness_n of_o spirit_n in_o those_o that_o be_v in_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n above_o all_o they_o shall_v quiet_o attend_v upon_o the_o word_n and_o wait_v for_o the_o time_n that_o god_n will_v speak_v peace_n to_o their_o conscience_n and_o if_o i_o can_v find_v the_o word_n suitable_a to_o i_o at_o this_o time_n yet_o i_o may_v at_o another_o time_n let_v i_o attend_v with_o meekness_n let_v i_o receive_v every_o thing_n with_o meekness_n the_o word_n be_v above_o i_o and_o if_o ever_o i_o have_v good_a it_o must_v be_v by_o he_o give_v thanks_o for_o what_o he_o give_v thanks_o to_o god_n the_o father_n that_o he_o be_v please_v to_o send_v he_o into_o the_o world_n to_o die_v for_o poor_a soul_n now_o shall_v jesus_n prayer_n that_o i_o may_v thereby_o come_v to_o enjoy_v more_o holy_a communion_n with_o thyself_o than_o ever_o yet_o i_o enjoy_v and_o they_o will_v account_v this_o to_o be_v a_o great_a mercy_n than_o if_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o to_o be_v king_n or_o queen_n over_o the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n shall_v put_v these_o two_o into_o the_o balance_n either_o the_o whole_a world_n to_o possess_v or_o otherwise_o to_o have_v more_o free_a heart_n in_o come_v to_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o to_o be_v deliver_v from_o that_o that_o have_v so_o much_o hinder_v their_o communion_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n they_o will_v despise_v and_o scorn_v the_o the_o world_n in_o comparison_n of_o such_o a_o mercy_n as_o this_o be_v howsoever_o carnal_a heart_n they_o think_v little_a of_o it_o but_o those_o that_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n they_o find_v it_o to_o be_v very_o grievous_a to_o they_o but_o be_v the_o time_n be_v past_a i_o shall_v reserve_v that_o to_o speak_v yet_o a_o little_a more_o large_o for_o the_o help_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o i_o will_v only_o speak_v one_o thing_n further_o now_o and_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o those_o that_o be_v wicked_a and_o vile_a that_o not_o only_o have_v vain_a wander_a thought_n in_o prayer_n but_o even_o in_o the_o very_a duty_n of_o prayer_n many_o time_n have_v wicked_a and_o ungodly_a thought_n how_o horrible_a be_v they_o unclean_a thought_n murderous_a thought_n it_o may_v be_v and_o most_o abominable_a i_o confess_v even_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a may_v sometime_o have_v some_o blasphemous_a thought_n cast_v into_o they_o for_o the_o devil_n be_v never_o more_o busy_a than_o at_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n but_o they_o rather_o come_v from_o the_o devil_n than_o from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o may_v be_v we_o may_v make_v out_o more_o clear_o afterward_o but_o now_o i_o speak_v to_o such_o as_o have_v most_o wicked_a abominable_a thought_n rise_v from_o the_o stream_n and_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n such_o thought_n as_o their_o heart_n do_v close_o withal_o in_o prayer_n and_o they_o can_v roll_n those_o thought_n about_o in_o their_o mind_n as_o a_o child_n will_v roll_n a_o piece_n of_o sugar_n in_o its_o mouth_n and_o this_o be_v the_o wickedness_n of_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n heart_n take_v but_o this_o one_o note_n with_o you_o that_o all_o those_o dreadful_a vile_a unclean_a covetous_a thought_n of_o thou_o in_o prayer_n they_o have_v be_v to_o god_n as_o if_o you_o have_v speak_v they_o in_o word_n thought_n to_o god_n be_v all_o one_o with_o he_o as_o word_n be_v to_o man_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n do_v converse_v with_o god_n in_o thought_n as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v converse_v with_o man_n in_o word_n and_o what_o a_o woeful_a guiltiness_n will_v have_v be_v upon_o you_o have_v you_o speak_v such_o vile_a and_o wicked_a thing_n to_o man_n as_o sometime_o have_v be_v in_o your_o mind_n even_o when_o you_o have_v be_v pray_v to_o god_n how_o will_v the_o company_n have_v even_o spit_v in_o your_o face_n and_o kick_v you_o from_o so_o set_v a_o high_a price_n upon_o prayer_n at_o every_o time_n thou_o be_v go_v to_o prayer_n lord_n i_o be_o now_o set_v upon_o a_o work_n that_o be_v of_o very_o great_a consequence_n and_o what_o soever_o difficulty_n he_o meet_v withal_o whatsoever_o it_o cost_v he_o that_o he_o will_v go_v through_o this_o work_n i_o say_v that_o resolution_n renew_v have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o resolve_v with_o ourselves_o well_o whatsoever_o fall_v out_o this_o morning_n i_o be_o resolve_v i_o will_v bear_v it_o so_o bethink_v thyself_o how_o many_o prayer_n thou_o have_v lose_v by_o vain_a thought_n and_o now_o renew_v thy_o resolution_n and_o covenant_n with_o god_n that_o for_o this_o prayer_n i_o will_v set_v myself_o against_o they_o whatsoever_o pain_n i_o take_v i_o will_v b_o before_o you_o in_o prayer_n have_v a_o real_a light_n of_o the_o infinite_a greatness_n majesty_n and_o glory_n of_o that_o you_o present_v yourselves_o unto_o when_o you_o be_v call_v upon_o he_o if_o so_o be_v that_o thou_o can_v have_v a_o real_a sight_n of_o god_n in_o his_o glory_n it_o will_v keep_v thy_o heart_n close_o to_o the_o duty_n as_o if_o a_o man_n be_v wander_v with_o his_o eye_n and_o look_v after_o every_o feather_n if_o the_o king_n or_o some_o great_a person_n come_v into_o the_o room_n all_o his_o thought_n will_v be_v about_o the_o king_n or_o the_o great_a god_n he_o be_v in_o himself_o and_o yet_o what_o a_o merciful_a god_n he_o be_v to_o we_o in_o his_o son_n this_o will_v mighty_o compose_v our_o heart_n certain_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o be_v so_o wander_v in_o their_o prayer_n it_o be_v because_o their_o eye_n be_v not_o open_a to_o look_v upon_o god_n in_o his_o glory_n they_o be_v as_o it_o be_v dream_v and_o do_v not_o apprehend_v that_o god_n stand_v and_o look_v upon_o they_o and_o observe_v they_o and_o that_o god_n take_v notice_n of_o every_o wander_a thought_n that_o come_v from_o they_o they_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o god_n do_v converse_v with_o the_o thought_n of_o man_n as_o well_o as_o man_n do_v with_o the_o word_n of_o man_n that_o be_v a_o three_o rule_n four_o take_v heed_n thou_o be_v not_o deceive_v because_o that_o those_o thought_n thou_o have_v in_o prayer_n do_v not_o appear_v to_o be_v very_o evil_a in_o themselves_o this_o be_v a_o great_a deceit_n and_o hinder_v many_o in_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o prayer_n there_o be_v sometime_o dart_v in_o some_o vain_a thought_n now_o because_o the_o thought_n have_v no_o great_a evil_n in_o itself_o therefore_o they_o think_v they_o may_v play_v with_o it_o and_o their_o heart_n close_o with_o it_o and_o so_o run_v along_o with_o it_o as_o the_o fish_n do_v with_o the_o bait_n if_o the_o devil_n cast_v in_o a_o thought_n of_o blasphemy_n that_o make_v thou_o quake_v and_o shake_v but_o if_o thy_o thought_n have_v no_o great_a evil_n in_o they_o but_o they_o be_v slight_a thing_n matter_n of_o no_o moment_n one_o way_n or_o other_o upon_o that_o thy_o heart_n begin_v to_o be_v dandle_v and_o play_v with_o they_o therefore_o remember_v this_o rule_n that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o prayer_n whatsoever_o thought_n be_v in_o thy_o mind_n that_o do_v not_o concern_v the_o present_a duty_n they_o be_v sinful_a before_o god_n though_o the_o thought_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o be_v never_o so_o prosper_v so_o little_a in_o our_o christian_a course_n it_o be_v because_o we_o do_v not_o take_v notice_n of_o what_o god_n have_v do_v for_o we_o to_o give_v god_n glory_n for_o mercy_n former_o receive_v and_o therefore_o god_n take_v little_a or_o no_o delight_n in_o come_v in_o with_o further_a mercy_n to_o we_o as_o if_o you_o hâ—â—_n a_o young_a nursery_n of_o tree_n and_o they_o begin_v spoil_v but_o he_o see_v two_o or_o three_o and_o these_o flourish_n fair_o and_o these_o be_v full_a of_o bud_n and_o be_v like_a to_o come_v to_o something_o and_o he_o rejoice_v mighty_o in_o those_o because_o they_o be_v save_v when_o so_o many_o other_o be_v spoil_v and_o so_o do_v thou_o view_v thy_o prayer_n and_o consider_v how_o many_o have_v be_v spoil_v as_o it_o be_v by_o these_o caterpillar_n for_o i_o compare_v wander_v vain_a thought_n in_o prayer_n unto_o caterpillar_n that_o be_v upon_o the_o tree_n and_o we_o see_v that_o if_o stormy_a rainy_a weather_n come_v the_o caterpillar_n will_v fall_v and_o one_o will_v think_v that_o these_o bluster_a storm_n and_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n that_o have_v be_v out_o against_o we_o shall_v have_v cleanse_v our_o thought_n and_o soul_n from_o these_o caterpillar_n that_o have_v be_v upon_o our_o duty_n but_o many_o duty_n have_v be_v spoil_v yet_o thou_o may_v say_v that_o hrough_a god_n mercy_n such_o a_o morning_n in_o my_o closet_n the_o lord_n have_v preserve_v a_o prayer_n to_o himself_o and_o i_o have_v get_v power_n over_o this_o vain_a heart_n of_o i_o bless_v god_n for_o this_o and_o so_o the_o spirit_n other_o side_n one_o stand_v the_o one_o way_n and_o the_o other_o stand_v the_o other_o way_n or_o one_o take_v up_o one_o end_n and_o the_o other_o the_o other_o end_n that_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o it_o he_o help_v our_o infirmity_n the_o poor_a soul_n be_v pull_v and_o tug_v with_o its_o own_o heart_n and_o find_v his_o heart_n heavy_a and_o dull_a like_o a_o log_n in_o a_o ditch_n and_o have_v not_o many_o of_o you_o find_v your_o heart_n so_o but_o now_o then_o when_o you_o be_v tug_v with_o your_o heart_n and_o will_v fain_o lift_v up_o your_o heart_n to_o god_n be_v prayer_n there_o come_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n at_o the_o other_o end_n and_o take_v the_o heavy_a end_n of_o the_o burden_n and_o help_v you_o to_o lift_v it_o up_o if_o a_o child_n be_v at_o one_o end_n of_o the_o log_n and_o that_o be_v but_o light_n and_o the_o other_o end_n very_o heavy_a if_o one_o come_v and_o take_v up_o the_o heavy_a end_n a_o little_a strength_n will_v serve_v for_o the_o light_a end_n so_o the_o spirit_n come_v and_o take_v up_o the_o heavy_a end_n in_o duty_n and_o so_o help_v our_o infirmity_n help_v together_o and_o then_o the_o other_o word_n be_v the_o spirit_n that_o be_v together_o with_o the_o act_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o our_o heart_n you_o must_v not_o say_v so_o alas_o what_o can_v i_o do_v it_o must_v be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o must_v do_v all_o it_o be_v true_a he_o do_v all_o first_o he_o give_v convert_v and_o habitual_a grace_n and_o assist_v and_o actuate_a grace_n but_o now_o when_o the_o spirit_n have_v
