make_v know_v to_o man_n the_o first_o state_n in_o which_o he_o be_v bring_v forth_o by_o his_o creator_n as_o also_o his_o fall_n but_o have_v most_o express_o show_v the_o sinner_n what_o glory_n forasmuch_o as_o they_o partake_v of_o the_o same_o nourishment_n but_o nature_n teach_v we_o the_o contrary_a viz._n that_o each_o kind_n have_v its_o own_o form_n and_o flesh_n whence_o it_o be_v its_o own_o proper_a life_n over_o and_o above_o its_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o soul_n or_o its_o principal_a spirit_n for_o when_o the_o soul_n or_o life_n do_v cease_v from_o its_o former_a operation_n and_o that_o the_o body_n thereupon_o die_v yet_o we_o shall_v find_v that_o these_o dead_a body_n afterward_o turn_v to_o worm_n etc._n etc._n yea_o experience_n teach_v we_o that_o sometime_o the_o hair_n and_o nail_n of_o a_o dead_a body_n do_v grow_v which_o prove_v that_o the_o body_n have_v its_o own_o life_n beside_o the_o soul_n or_o general_a life_n which_o uphold_v the_o body_n in_o its_o form_n or_o essence_n as_o long_o as_o she_o continue_v in_o her_o former_a work_v or_o efficiency_n §_o 95._o but_o some_o will_v ask_v why_o since_o the_o body_n have_v its_o own_o life_n man_n do_v notwithstanding_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o a_o soul_n or_o life_n for_o answer_v to_o this_o i_o desire_v the_o enquirer_n to_o consider_v that_o man_n body_n be_v feed_v by_o the_o creature_n he_o enjoy_v and_o partake_v of_o the_o life_n of_o they_o which_o life_n of_o the_o creature_n if_o it_o be_v not_o transmute_v in_o man_n so_o as_o to_o comply_v with_o the_o operation_n or_o efficiency_n of_o man_n it_o can_v never_o be_v of_o use_n for_o the_o support_n or_o preservation_n of_o man._n to_o the_o end_n therefore_o that_o the_o creature_n and_o their_o life_n may_v shall_v have_v a_o soul_n or_o life_n that_o may_v superintend_v rule_n and_o govern_v all_o the_o life_n and_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o his_o body_n of_o the_o soul_n or_o central_n spirit_n have_v be_v treat_v in_o the_o observation_n concern_v man._n §_o 33.51_o §_o 96._o these_o principle_n now_o whereof_o the_o body_n and_o all_o creature_n whether_o corporeal_a or_o spiritual_a do_v and_o the_o same_o essence_n as_o moses_n seem_v plain_o enough_o to_o intimate_v with_o these_o word_n and_o the_o darkness_n he_o call_v night_n v._o 5._o for_o experience_n teach_v we_o that_o night_n or_o darkness_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o cold_a and_o water_n wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v hence_o that_o darkness_n communicate_v with_o the_o watery_a essence_n and_o when_o it_o be_v the_o watery_a essence_n be_v the_o darkness_n we_o will_v here_o compare_v some_o expression_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n together_o and_o see_v what_o understanding_n the_o same_o will_v afford_v we_o with_o relation_n to_o this_o matter_n man_n as_o long_o as_o he_o live_v and_o cleave_v to_o sin_n be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o darkness_n john_n 3.19_o rom._n 2.19_o etc._n etc._n and_o this_o darkness_n be_v the_o essence_n of_o body_n as_o we_o be_v teach_v rom._n 13.12_o let_v we_o cast_v off_o the_o work_n of_o darkness_n which_o work_v of_o darkness_n the_o apostle_n enumerate_v v._o 13._o viz._n riot_v drunkenness_n chamber_v and_o wantonness_n strife_n and_o envy_v in_o order_n to_o the_o prevention_n of_o these_o he_o advise_v we_o v._o 14._o not_o to_o make_v provision_n for_o the_o flesh_n for_o the_o gratify_n of_o its_o lust_n whence_o it_o be_v obvious_a to_o understand_v and_o that_o flesh_n and_o darkness_n have_v communion_n together_o this_o be_v that_o which_o distinction_n between_o they_o calling_z they_o throne_n dominion_n principality_n power_n and_o eph._n 1.20.21_o and_o set_v he_o christ_n at_o his_o own_o right_a hand_n in_o the_o heavenly_a place_n far_o above_o all_o principality_n power_n may_v and_o dominion_n and_o every_o name_n that_o be_v name_v if_o any_o one_o shall_v say_v that_o there_o be_v only_o different_a denomination_n give_v to_o spirit_n and_o that_o notwithstanding_o they_o may_v all_o of_o they_o be_v of_o one_o and_o the_o same_o efficiency_n i_o will_v demand_v of_o such_o a_o one_o of_o what_o use_n than_o it_o be_v to_o give_v they_o these_o different_a denomination_n for_o if_o the_o apostle_n design_v only_o to_o express_v one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n by_o all_o these_o name_n than_o it_o be_v no_o better_a than_o a_o vain_a repetition_n of_o so_o many_o word_n beside_o it_o be_v well_o know_v that_o name_n be_v give_v to_o distinguish_v thing_n from_o one_o another_o and_o to_o express_v the_o property_n use_v and_o operation_n of_o the_o subject_a to_o which_o
such_o a_o name_n be_v give_v when_o therefore_o the_o holy_a scripture_n make_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o spirit_n and_o spirit_n by_o give_v they_o divers_a name_n ought_v not_o we_o to_o conclude_v that_o these_o different_a denomination_n signify_v the_o various_a property_n and_o operation_n of_o spirit_n as_o well_o as_o the_o name_n of_o visible_a and_o tangible_a substance_n do_v express_v their_o property_n and_o operation_n to_o what_o purpose_n therefore_o be_v it_o to_o make_v this_o childish_a evasion_n here_o concern_v spirit_n in_o a_o matter_n which_o be_v a_o receive_a truth_n in_o all_o other_o natural_a thing_n viz._n that_o name_n be_v give_v to_o thing_n to_o distinguish_v they_o in_o their_o operation_n from_o one_o another_o but_o these_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o modern_a carnality_n we_o will_v know_v of_o nothing_o but_o what_o be_v bodily_a because_o we_o be_v altogether_o ignorant_a of_o what_o be_v spiritual_a but_o that_o the_o angel_n have_v their_o different_a operation_n be_v evident_a from_o the_o revelation_n where_o we_o find_v a_o description_n of_o several_a angel_n and_o their_o different_a operation_n neither_o do_v the_o angel_n only_o differ_v thus_o but_o continual_a experience_n also_o teach_v we_o that_o the_o life_n or_o fiery_a spirit_n of_o the_o creature_n do_v differ_v from_o one_o another_o in_o their_o operation_n for_o all_o life_n do_v not_o bring_v forth_o the_o same_o kind_n of_o body_n but_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 5._o all_o flesh_n be_v not_o the_o same_o flesh_n etc._n etc._n and_o why_o so_o but_o because_o the_o life_n which_o form_n the_o flesh_n and_o body_n as_o may_v be_v see_v in_o the_o observation_n concern_v man_n §_o 37.38.39_o have_v not_o all_o of_o they_o the_o same_o efficiency_n §_o 107._o and_o as_o all_o fiery_a spirit_n or_o life_n have_v not_o the_o same_o efficiency_n so_o neither_o be_v the_o watery_a dark_a or_o refrigerate_v essence_n of_o one_o operation_n as_o have_v be_v show_v in_o the_o say_a observation_n §_o 28_o and_o 33._o the_o holy_a scripture_n also_o inform_v we_o that_o the_o watery_a essence_n consist_v of_o many_o and_o governor_n as_o will_v be_v evident_a by_o compare_v the_o follow_a place_n luke_o 22._o 53._o our_o saviour_n say_v this_o be_v the_o power_n of_o darkness_n viz._n that_o whereby_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o serpent_n shall_v bruise_v his_o heel_n and_o this_o power_n of_o darkness_n our_o savoiour_n call_v john_n 12.31_o and_o 14.30_o the_o prince_n of_o this_o world_n which_o prince_n eph._n 2.2_o be_v call_v the_o prince_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o air_n the_o prince_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o now_o work_v in_o the_o child_n of_o disobedience_n and_o v._o 3._o tell_v we_o that_o the_o operation_n of_o this_o spirit_n be_v the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n whence_o it_o appear_v that_o this_o spirit_n have_v communion_n with_o the_o spirit_n of_o darkness_n moreover_o the_o apostle_n attribute_n to_o the_o flesh_n viz._n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o darkness_n which_o rule_v the_o flesh_n a_o will_n and_o thought_n and_o therefore_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v eph._n as_o hereafter_o it_o will_v make_v way_n for_o our_o understanding_n the_o style_n or_o manner_n of_o expression_n use_v in_o holy_a scripture_n §_o 109._o but_o it_o may_v be_v query_v here_o see_v that_o man_n consist_v of_o these_o two_o spiritual_a essence_n and_o that_o they_o be_v opposite_a to_o each_o other_o how_o then_o can_v there_o be_v any_o union_n between_o they_o so_o as_o to_o cooperate_a towards_o and_o bring_v forth_o one_o birth_n this_o difficulty_n will_v be_v easy_o remove_v if_o first_o we_o consider_v what_o unity_n be_v know_v we_o therefore_o that_o two_o body_n though_o they_o differ_v in_o their_o nature_n may_v notwithstanding_o be_v unite_v together_o and_o cooperate_a in_o unity_n viz._n when_o the_o one_o of_o they_o be_v make_v subject_n to_o the_o other_o and_o in_o all_o respect_n comply_v with_o its_o operation_n so_o as_o that_o the_o one_o be_v passive_n and_o the_o other_o active_a and_o if_o such_o a_o unity_n as_o we_o have_v now_o
